I refunded my copy. I managed to do the tutorials and No Rest For the Wicked exactly once. Of my 102 minute play time, over half of it was waiting for matchmaking that never happened. I'll check again in a couple of months to see if the game is actually playable. I'm lucky that this is the first time I have ever encountered this kind of shit in a game.

Payday 2 the armor bag was completely useless and the medic bag was king, in 3 the medic bag is mostly useless and the armor bag is king.

In 2 armor bag was awful due tio it's use case. Single armor change just for you. It allows you to go half stealth half loud, but you're gimped in both due to losing your deployable. Even if you found people to play that way you're all getting super gimped because everyoe has to bring their own armor bag for god knows why.
Medic bag was fine before the changes. The point isn't to have one best deployable
Payday 2 is unfortunately a min-maxxing nightmare.

Expect overkill are moronic and don't know why it works in gtfo. Standing still in circles works because you're either shooting or the enemies are blind. In payday 3 the guards can see and especially on overkill there are so many you basically get 10 seconds to sit in the scan before another guard shows up.

It is impossible that every single dev that ever made an online game thinks that way, starbreeze is on thin ice they can't afford to just fix it later hence why literally everything else in the game works. Everybody sucks BG3s wiener because it didn't have a cosmetics stores, you'd think one company in history would try and release an online with functional servers. You can use the debug menu with any copy afaik. Played a heist on my steam copy just fine. Though first time it spawned me outside the level, had to quit to menu and reselect it, nothing weird after that
honestly, I hate 3 because my preffered playstyle in 2 is just not longer possible at all due to the armour changes.
In payday 2 I loved to just go full armour/tank mode where I would park my ass in a doorway and kill anything that got in my line of sight.
but now in 3? you can't do that since your armour doesn't regen at all, so the best and only playstyle is just to find a corner you can hide in where the least amount of cops will be able to see you and preferably where they will be right in your face when they can see you because trying to play it any other way will just result in you failing eventually when you run out of health/armour bags

- comp is kinda shitty so turned down graphics to lowest settings and it looks like payday 2. helped to make it at least playable and smooth enough to play.
-Immediately had to turn off motion blur. made me dizzy and blurred the screen.
- framerate wasn't the best, hope that gets better with patches and isn't just my comp.
- I played on normal difficulty and was getting nuked by cops pretty often, so I wonder how much harder it will get at later difficulties.

nah i'd say 1 out of ever 5 matches you'll bump into some people with voicechat. Kind of refreshing especially in an EDD where communication will greatly improve your success rates.

I tried Payday 2 a while ago but refunded almost immediately. I think this was during a period where those e-celeb's ugly mugs were being heavily promoted in the game itself. Plus, I was getting some egregious micro-stuttering for some reason, although that was probably AMD's drivers screwing things up as usual.

It's kinda funny that they wanted to deter people by using the CHEATER tag online for people that unlocked DLCs, but most people that aren't bootlickers don't give a shit about the tag and just play as normal.
The tag is a bit annoying, but there is a mod to remove that too. I played it in VR with the VR improvement mod and continued to not give a frick while playing years worth of content for $1.
I wish they'd just pull this trash from Steam already. This game seemed really promising in early access. Like Payday 2's launch but with better heists and a few more weapons. How the hell did they frick things up this bad?
The game itself is fun, casing mode is massively buffed and unmasked stealth is definitely a viable options for a good chunk of things. That being said, the progression system fricking sucks with no XP given by completing a heist (you have to complete specific challenges to get XP, which is easy in the beginning since everything has a challenge associated to it) but then starts to hard wall you in an attempt to stop using the weapons and doing the difficulties that you like. The grenade launcher overkill weapon feels absolutely pointless to use because of the enormous splash damage, and the game can be stuttery at times. The gameplay is still pretty fun, and I'd say to grab it on sale when the game actually works.
it's fun it has a few core issues
1. not enough heists and heists are too short
2. it has 2 playable women that is 2 too many
3. too few guns
4. too few masks
5. too few gloves
it will 100% be better once some more content is added

I think for what the gameplay is there is potential for the game to be very enjoyable.

I think the issue with games that have been out as long as PD2 is people forget how the launch/development actually went. I remember people being just as pissed at PD2 for various reasons, some of which got fixed, some didn't.
And when you've played and followed a game that long it feels like a hard, harsh reset when a sequel comes out because it'll never live up to your memories or expectations of the earlier game, even if it's good.
My only real complaint for this game right now is the server stuff and enemy density needs to be higher. I'd rather gun down waves of weaker enemies than less but stronger ones, but I guess that's closer to how the first game works.

All it takes for a match to fail is for one Dozer to not be dealt with, and bots are literally incapable of damaging a Dozer, you can let them fight one for 10 minutes and they won't even break any armor pieces, so right now playing on Very Hard and above with bots is nearly impossible unless you gear yourself specifically with an anti-dozer loadout and don't deviate from it.
How does the stealth gameplay work in this? I see people doing shit with mask on but I feel like if I pulled a gun out all I wouldn’t be able to move 5m without all the civilians panicking
Mask off: civilians, guards, and cameras don't give a shit what you're doing unless it's something illegal (lockpicking, being in a secure area, triggering a power box, etc.). You can sprint around, carry money bags, hack cameras, cut windows and lockpick, and a few other things. In private areas, guards that detect you will escort you out unless you try and run away, in which case they'll either arrest you if you're still nearby or call the radio and bust the heist.
Mask on: civilians and guards will instantly start detecting you if in line of sight. Civilians will cower in fear or run for a guard if you're detected, and guards will try and arrest you or open fire if you try and run away. You can do every action when masked up.
So how do people do shit like escort high profile employees to certain areas? Just start screaming at every civilian in the way and tie them down? Do you have to worry about them getting up and legging it if you move too far away after tying them up?
Either they'll kill the guard patrolling the area and tie up all the other civilians or quietly escort the civilian around when tied up. Once hostages are tied down, they will not run away or move unless otherwise told to or freed by the police.

Since 3 has a story from the start it probably wont have magic stuff in it. The only way I'd see it happening is as a way to bring back Bain's VA
2 has the gang move to Washington DC, pulling off small heists of cash registers, israeliteelry, and ATMs that gradually build up in size and scope until they culminate in Bain getting injected with the virus stolen in the events of No Mercy, and the gang saving his life by storming the White House to reach the vault hidden deep under the PEOC that contains the Ark of the Watcher, which when powered with the Mayan gold the gang stole from First World Bank allows Bain to astrally project into the body of the President of the United States, completing the greatest heist of all.
3 takes place five years later when the gang are forced out of retirement and back into a life of crime in New York when their assets are frozen following an attempt on their lives.

In Payday 3's case, everyone I've talked to said the actual game play was decent enough. A step back from PD2, but still fun. its the bugs and ruined progression that's holding the game back.
Basically, PD3 could very well land on its feet. Its not completely ass like Redfall.
There are no major bugs in the game, the progression not tracking is a server issue and it was fixed for me and my friend when we logged on during the brief window of the game working today

The thing about games is their reputation/post-release legacy is defined by their launch, case in point look at any one of these games: Cyberpunk 2077, No Man's Sky, Fallout 76
Or in Overkill's roster: RAID: WW2 and Overkill's The Walking Dead (The game that bankrupted the company) with the exception of OTWD, all of these games have gotten post-launch updates that have fixed the majority of their launch issues and are supposedly pretty good right now (Yes, RAID:WW2 is getting updates)
But when you think about these games, the first thing that comes to mind isn't "Yeah they're pretty good now" the first thing that comes to mind is all the broken and fricked up bullshit they had on release, like when you think Fallout 76 you think about the helmet, the bag scandal, the refund of mtx credits that wasn't even enough to buy a digital version of that bag, the hidden item rooms with all the items in the game in them, etc.
Even if the game survives it's reputation will be permanently mired by the server fiasco, and if this shit goes on all day today? You might as well not expect any updates past year one, and a file for bankruptcy afterwards by Ovk.

Overkill's The Walking Dead should have been easy money. I sincerely don't understand how they fricked that one up. It was a zombie game where the zombies felt like proper obstacles and something to be afraid of in large numbers, but for some reason they made the human enemies bullet spongey.
I liked the sound system, though. However, the stupid fricking AI enemies would just shoot as if walkers weren't real, and it kinda ruins it.
The hidden item room would have been enjoyed as a bug/exploit in any other Bethesda game like the merchant chest in Skyrim, but since they had to have live service shit it's the opposite.
I keep getting recommended The Engoodening but I have no intention of watching it even if it's got 23 million views. I think of the disastrous launch when I think of NMS but I don't know if that's the case for most people now considering how long it's been.

The guns sounds and feel worse, feedback from everything is worse since even when solo you are going back and forth with a server, the voice lines are worse and they barely have any of them, 7 of the 8 heists have the same exact setup and none have any interesting mechanics or highlights and are even more tame than PD: TH, the menus are terrible and were made to be navigated by controllers, the feedback from what things do is terrible with vague words and stat bars that straight up lie.

I refunded my copy. I managed to do the tutorials and No Rest For the Wicked exactly once. Of my 102 minute play time, over half of it was waiting for matchmaking that never happened. I'll check again in a couple of months to see if the game is actually playable. I'm lucky that this is the first time I have ever encountered this kind of shit in a game.

In 2 armor bag was awful due tio it's use case. Single armor change just for you. It allows you to go half stealth half loud, but you're gimped in both due to losing your deployable. Even if you found people to play that way you're all getting super gimped because everyoe has to bring their own armor bag for god knows why.
Medic bag was fine before the changes. The point isn't to have one best deployable

Expect overkill are moronic and don't know why it works in gtfo. Standing still in circles works because you're either shooting or the enemies are blind. In payday 3 the guards can see and especially on overkill there are so many you basically get 10 seconds to sit in the scan before another guard shows up.

In payday 2 I loved to just go full armour/tank mode where I would park my ass in a doorway and kill anything that got in my line of sight.
but now in 3? you can't do that since your armour doesn't regen at all, so the best and only playstyle is just to find a corner you can hide in where the least amount of cops will be able to see you and preferably where they will be right in your face when they can see you because trying to play it any other way will just result in you failing eventually when you run out of health/armour bags

some thoughts (i just played my first match)
- comp is kinda shitty so turned down graphics to lowest settings and it looks like payday 2. helped to make it at least playable and smooth enough to play.
-Immediately had to turn off motion blur. made me dizzy and blurred the screen.
- framerate wasn't the best, hope that gets better with patches and isn't just my comp.
- I played on normal difficulty and was getting nuked by cops pretty often, so I wonder how much harder it will get at later difficulties.

The sniper is leagues better
The sniper has only one challenge tied to it while the grenade launcher has 3, so you WILL use the grenade launcher.
the Overkill sniper rifle is so much better it's almost unbelievable. Feels great to shoot too and will reload in the time it takes you to extract and insert a single grenade of the MGL.
Only problem is that it's a little hard to tell dozers apart from the normal cops with the scope, and it doesn't account for enemies crouching either so that can make you miss a shot or two.
It penetrates walls and enemies as well so if you post up in an alley or look down a hallway you can easily kill five or more cops with a single shot.
This folks is why you do not make a game online only.

All real. Text chat only, and specifically only during the heist. In the lobby part you sit there and stare at whoever's not readied up, and the after-heist reward screen has no chat function and kicks you back to the main menu when you're done, so your teammates vanish into the void.

I tried Payday 2 a while ago but refunded almost immediately. I think this was during a period where those e-celeb's ugly mugs were being heavily promoted in the game itself. Plus, I was getting some egregious micro-stuttering for some reason, although that was probably AMD's drivers screwing things up as usual.

That's what I did and I enjoyed it. For the tiny amount of money I spent it was worth it.
It's kinda funny that they wanted to deter people by using the CHEATER tag online for people that unlocked DLCs, but most people that aren't bootlickers don't give a shit about the tag and just play as normal.
The tag is a bit annoying, but there is a mod to remove that too. I played it in VR with the VR improvement mod and continued to not give a frick while playing years worth of content for $1.
I wish they'd just pull this trash from Steam already. I have a friend who has it and I don't want to sound like an butthole that doesn't want to put effort into playing a game we were both excited for, but I don't want to sit there failing matchmaking until my 2 hour refund window is up. Just fix the shit first before I buy it.

The game itself is fun, casing mode is massively buffed and unmasked stealth is definitely a viable options for a good chunk of things. That being said, the progression system fricking sucks with no XP given by completing a heist (you have to complete specific challenges to get XP, which is easy in the beginning since everything has a challenge associated to it) but then starts to hard wall you in an attempt to stop using the weapons and doing the difficulties that you like. The grenade launcher overkill weapon feels absolutely pointless to use because of the enormous splash damage, and the game can be stuttery at times. The gameplay is still pretty fun, and I'd say to grab it on sale when the game actually works.

1. not enough heists and heists are too short
2. it has 2 playable women that is 2 too many
3. too few guns
4. too few masks
5. too few gloves

people have so much fondness for 2, its easy to come to the conclusion 3 is a "soulless and stripped away" remake but a lot of it is just design choices and our nostalgia getting in the way, It seems decent and like they tried to do something good here for us, so it's not all bad. other things like the no vc, matchmaking, and all this stuff is just rough, it is what it is.
I think for what the gameplay is there is potential for the game to be very enjoyable.
Right now the game is very thin and a ton of great features from PD2 are missing and likely wont be added back due to incompetence or sheer arrogance.

I think the issue with games that have been out as long as PD2 is people forget how the launch/development actually went. I remember people being just as pissed at PD2 for various reasons, some of which got fixed, some didn't.
And when you've played and followed a game that long it feels like a hard, harsh reset when a sequel comes out because it'll never live up to your memories or expectations of the earlier game, even if it's good.
My only real complaint for this game right now is the server stuff and enemy density needs to be higher. I'd rather gun down waves of weaker enemies than less but stronger ones, but I guess that's closer to how the first game works.

All it takes for a match to fail is for one Dozer to not be dealt with, and bots are literally incapable of damaging a Dozer, you can let them fight one for 10 minutes and they won't even break any armor pieces, so right now playing on Very Hard and above with bots is nearly impossible unless you gear yourself specifically with an anti-dozer loadout and don't deviate from it.

How does the stealth gameplay work in this? I see people doing shit with mask on but I feel like if I pulled a gun out all I wouldn’t be able to move 5m without all the civilians panicking
Mask off: civilians, guards, and cameras don't give a shit what you're doing unless it's something illegal (lockpicking, being in a secure area, triggering a power box, etc.). You can sprint around, carry money bags, hack cameras, cut windows and lockpick, and a few other things. In private areas, guards that detect you will escort you out unless you try and run away, in which case they'll either arrest you if you're still nearby or call the radio and bust the heist.
Mask on: civilians and guards will instantly start detecting you if in line of sight. Civilians will cower in fear or run for a guard if you're detected, and guards will try and arrest you or open fire if you try and run away. You can do every action when masked up.
So how do people do shit like escort high profile employees to certain areas? Just start screaming at every civilian in the way and tie them down? Do you have to worry about them getting up and legging it if you move too far away after tying them up?
Either they'll kill the guard patrolling the area and tie up all the other civilians or quietly escort the civilian around when tied up. Once hostages are tied down, they will not run away or move unless otherwise told to or freed by the police.

Hey, anyone know how much magic and mystical shit is in the Payday series? I remember someone describing an easter egg to me. Something about a giant shadow in the background of a level and how it actually ties into the lore.
magic stuff only existed because they hired someone to tie like 7 years worth of content together. Up until then the heist were just random situations the devs thought would be cool. Since 3 has a story from the start it probably wont have magic stuff in it. The only way I'd see it happening is as a way to bring back Bain's VA
2 has the gang move to Washington DC, pulling off small heists of cash registers, israeliteelry, and ATMs that gradually build up in size and scope until they culminate in Bain getting injected with the virus stolen in the events of No Mercy, and the gang saving his life by storming the White House to reach the vault hidden deep under the PEOC that contains the Ark of the Watcher, which when powered with the Mayan gold the gang stole from First World Bank allows Bain to astrally project into the body of the President of the United States, completing the greatest heist of all.
3 takes place five years later when the gang are forced out of retirement and back into a life of crime in New York when their assets are frozen following an attempt on their lives.
2 got so wacky, hope it stays more grounded this time.

In Payday 3's case, everyone I've talked to said the actual game play was decent enough. A step back from PD2, but still fun. its the bugs and ruined progression that's holding the game back.
Basically, PD3 could very well land on its feet. Its not completely ass like Redfall.
There are no major bugs in the game, the progression not tracking is a server issue and it was fixed for me and my friend when we logged on during the brief window of the game working today

The thing about games is their reputation/post-release legacy is defined by their launch, case in point look at any one of these games: Cyberpunk 2077, No Man's Sky, Fallout 76
Or in Overkill's roster: RAID: WW2 and Overkill's The Walking Dead (The game that bankrupted the company) with the exception of OTWD, all of these games have gotten post-launch updates that have fixed the majority of their launch issues and are supposedly pretty good right now (Yes, RAID:WW2 is getting updates)
But when you think about these games, the first thing that comes to mind isn't "Yeah they're pretty good now" the first thing that comes to mind is all the broken and fricked up bullshit they had on release, like when you think Fallout 76 you think about the helmet, the bag scandal, the refund of mtx credits that wasn't even enough to buy a digital version of that bag, the hidden item rooms with all the items in the game in them, etc.
Even if the game survives it's reputation will be permanently mired by the server fiasco, and if this shit goes on all day today? You might as well not expect any updates past year one, and a file for bankruptcy afterwards by Ovk.

Overkill's The Walking Dead should have been easy money. I sincerely don't understand how they fricked that one up. It was a zombie game where the zombies felt like proper obstacles and something to be afraid of in large numbers, but for some reason they made the human enemies bullet spongey.
I liked the sound system, though. However, the stupid fricking AI enemies would just shoot as if walkers weren't real, and it kinda ruins it.
The hidden item room would have been enjoyed as a bug/exploit in any other Bethesda game like the merchant chest in Skyrim, but since they had to have live service shit it's the opposite.
I keep getting recommended The Engoodening but I have no intention of watching it even if it's got 23 million views. I think of the disastrous launch when I think of NMS but I don't know if that's the case for most people now considering how long it's been.

The guns sounds and feel worse, feedback from everything is worse since even when solo you are going back and forth with a server, the voice lines are worse and they barely have any of them, 7 of the 8 heists have the same exact setup and none have any interesting mechanics or highlights and are even more tame than PD: TH, the menus are terrible and were made to be navigated by controllers, the feedback from what things do is terrible with vague words and stat bars that straight up lie.
