100% of mods are complete trash anyway, the only useful ones are the cheat tables, for testing purposes.

You make money off of a protected license. And who do you think you are exactly? You're not a full team of hundreds of experienced professionnels with a AAA budget, you're a troony in his room. Your trash will never be worth paying a single penny. Do it for free or gtfo. People even crack whole AAA games and you think they will pay for your shitty mod kek.

15k people downloaded my mods and I've made a big $20 in two years. No donations or anything. Just the bare minimum you get from nexus for downloads. This is why mods are being paywalled. Me personally I just felt unappreciated and felt that everyone was just whining my mod wasnt 100% perfect

it probably sucked. 15k is nothing btw.

It is actually pretty decent. I'd say it would have gotten a lot more downloads if it was for a more popular game. Downloads fell off as the game became less popular.

damn it's almost as if you don't make mods for money or appreciation you fricking troglodyte

I didn't make it for money but as a hobby project and to see what is in the modding scene or if it's even worth the effort. I didn't like the entitlement of mod users so I decided it wasn't worth the effort. No money in it and the people are difficult to deal with.

The Internet is dying and so is gaming

Modding was never made solely for altruism, it was always a stepping stone into game development. Modding sucks now because it's a billion times easier making and selling a game now, so the only games with any kind of modding scene are trainwrecks like Bethesda games and Cyberpunk, and even then, most of the majority of mods are bug fixes, porn, or ports of shit from other games, aka, nothing creative because anyone with the ability to make a good fricking mod is just going to make their own game and sell it, because why the frick wouldn't they?

    >b-but I quit my daytime job to mod!
Irrelevant, mods should ALWAYS be passion projects, you should never charge for them let alone expect people to donate money for them.
    >but all my effort
Also irrelevant, it's effort you chose to spend on somebody else's project and thus you have no claim to it or to demanding money for it. If you want to get paid for your effort then make an original game, or even one using the original game's engine like Falskaar. If you can't do that then frick off or stop whining.
It would unironically be better for all modding to die permanently than for it to go the way of yt and be a for-profit activity and modders who paywall are always c**ts.

why is it that modders always fail to see the bigger picture? It doesn't matter how many shiny new weapons and armors and spells you add to the game if there are no new enemies to use them on. Elden ring only has a handful of """"difficult"""" moments to begin with and giving me some shiny new toys to slap radagon with doesn't make me want to play your mod, and fricking forget paying for it. For what's supposed to be the ultimate elden ring overhaul/dlc the only information I could find on it that wasn't shitty cosmetics was one new miniboss which was a slightly changed crucible knight. whoopie fricking doo
if your mod doesn't significantly change the game don't expect people to fricking buy it. I might've downloaded one of your shitty weapon skins and acknowledged the effort you made if it were free

the nature of paid mods is as such that whenever someone makes an actually inventive/revolutionary/inspired paid mod, the idea will immediately be stolen and reverse engineered by another modder, then offered for free as his original work, getting way more fame than the paywalled mod. The skyrim community has shown this over and over again.
That's only for the underwhelmingly small minority of paid mods that are actually good enough to cause that effect though: the vast majority of paid modders know this very well and put lazy dogshit mods behind a paywall and put out fancy ads, and every so often some moron will pay for it, which gets them a cozy 200 bucks per year or something passive income.

Googling the mod OP is referencing it seems to be the latter

I would argue that Champion's Ashes as a mod is better than DS3 base game. Usually overhauls aren't meant to replace the original game tho.

not really, every single overhaul mod, or "expansion" just adds edgy shit the modders likes, nothing to do with the game, or the story, or balance, like the video posted in

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjKaYtvaUyk
      wow what an amazing mod
      >some weapon reskins with weapon arts mashed together from existing spells
      >some armor reskins
so fricking cool take my 15 dollars

just edgy game breaking stuff that you will probably use once to kill a really hard boss really fast.
the only good mods are randomizers if you feel like mixing up the actual game

        Anonymous

Randomizers are boring as frick. Overhauls have actual new content that make for a new experience.

          Anonymous

doesn't matter if the new experience is shit, randomizers atleast make you try combinations you would never try otherwise which can be cool

            Anonymous

Well randomizers feel like nothing changed for me. I would rather have something that's tangibly different than doing the same thing over and over.

I think of it as a new game+. I can't replay a game without significant changes. Only game I saw that did significant changes for higher difficulties would be RE7 because it hid the items in new locations, increased enemy speed, and forced new routes through the house.

Most of the time replaying a game feels like if I was looking at a Ganker thread and everyone made the exact same posts and then I said "yeah, I'm gonna read that thread again". Randomizer is like there are the same posts again but they shuffled the order of the posts.
