I think that most PC "gamers" primarily buy PC for work and the same can be said for mobile with communication, artistic enjoyment is a secondary need for most people who can barely afford it.
Schools started buying tablets and chromebooks instead of pcs right around 2012-2013. I don't have numbers but I'd imagine at least half of PC gamers are building their own rigs, not buying prebuilts.
