decent controller, but some games have to do workarounds for while others have built in shit for.
If using on steam, make sure to turn off controller aids for that game and plug in your controller to get haptic feed back. For shit like dynasty warriors 7 you need ds4windows. And remember to update your drivers.
it's good but if you want to use the actual features on the 16 games that support the features you need to wire it
otherwise you need to use DS4 windows
this is also true but steam input ignores DS4 windows now so you can have both open at the same time
isn't this thing basically designed to break after a few months
All modern controllers post 7th gen are. so unless you want to pay a insane price for a Xbox 360 controller with worse ergonomics and having to have another adapter just to use it
It works better than the DS4 but my biggest complaints are
>moronicly tiny Start/Select buttons, no I don't care they have some dumbass new name like "menu"
>Shape just feels wrong for a sony controller
>Still permanently tethered to USB but at least its not Micro USB like the fricking ds4
>Requires steam or xinput or ds4win or some other software to get games to recognize it
>Even when games recognize it, developers are moronic 99% of the time and just default to xbox button visuals, leading to on-screen prompts being wrong
Honestly if you can get comfortable with xbox controllers, those are the way to go for PC just for less hassle. I however am a stubborn bastard and continue to spend hours searching for sony button mods or making them myself if the game assets can be unpacked easily.
The "Power-A" knockoff brand of xbox controllers aren't too bad, $15 and lasted me a year before the triggers gave out and right stick drift. I wish sony and microsoft would offer first party controllers without wireless bullshit/batteries in them driving up the cost. I'm perfectly happy with a cord.
Completely unnoticable on PC to be honest. Though it might make that MGS2 fan mod/remake playable on PC finally.
I've used both Xbox and PlayStation controller so much that I just know the exact placement of each button prompt. Like if I see Xbox "A" I know that is the bottom face button no matter what (X on PS).
>Like if I see Xbox "A" I know that is the bottom face button no matter what
Normally i'd agree but the second I see "A" my brain reverts to my childhood SNES days and presses Circle.
the biggest thing is if you emmulate ps3 or wii games, then dualsense is the best, otherwise just get an xbox controller.
No, I don't see a reason to get a PS5 yet and I'm fine with the DualShock4 and Steam controller
What does the X button do?
it exs
I regret not getting a Steam controller when they were being sold off for 5 dollars or whatever.
>Steam Controller
I got one during the 5 dollar fire sale but I never use it. I didn't think i'd miss the second joystick this much but that haptic pad just feels wrong. Also the face buttons are way too fricking tiny and close together.
NTA but unless you are autistic and like tweaking all day it's genuinely a terrible controller and likes to brick itself
I threw it out as soon as possible and went back to a xbox controller
i use a logitech xbox controller
I can't stand those domed analog sticks. My fingers slip right off them.
Yeah, i love it. Let me just push my thumb sticks togeth-
this literally never happens
always the same homosexuals arguing in bad faith lmfao
This could occasionally happen on DualShock 3 and earlier, but DS4 and DualSense have moved the sticks further apart, part of accommodating the touchpad
bretty good
t. currently playing nioh 2 and ER
xbox dpad is better, rumble shit isn't worth buying a controller for but its better on the ds.
battery is dogshit on the ds still.
>Dpad is better
does not mean much if it's uncomfortable to use in real games
the ds is uncomfortable as was the ds4. Play a game with dpad movement where you shift your thumb a lot. Piece of shit hurts.
the xbox dpad is literally perfect for 2d games. Switches instead of 1080s rubber dome is better and precise.
it's the placement of the dpad, not the quality of the dpad itself. it doesn't feel right and it's very awkward if you've ever used a retro controller before. the dreamcast had the same issue except its dpad was much much worse than the xbox one. dpads should always be symmetrical with the buttons for 2d games. which isn't me shilling the playstation controller, go buy a saturn or snes knockoff for 2d games but the xbox controller for them blows.
I played dozens of games with the DS arcade and snes and genesis and I had no problem in fact the dpad being smaller made it easier to roll
the position of the dpad on the xbox controller sucks though, borderline unusable and you're much better off having a separate controller for 2d games than using an xbox controller for them.
It's aight. Death Stranding is probably the best implementation on PC right now. Outside of the gimmick it's just a normal controller, not as easy to plug and play as xbone, though.
>not as easy to plug and play as xbone
It is in my experience when it comes to Steam. and sony has their own PC drivers for it now. I guess anything that doesn't work is 100% fixed by DS4Windows (or whatever the dualsense one is)
>Have you tried the DualSense controller?
not yet, i'm still pretty happy with my ds4. i do want one though, the trigger resistance/haptics sounds neat.
yeah i like it, bought it for my pc. i just wish i had more controller games to play. any suggestions?
Dragons Dogma, Devil May Cry, Souls games, Nioh games, Ninja Gaiden games, emulated games, Survival horror games with tank controls like Resident Evil 1/4 or Silent Hill 1-4...
done, done, 100%ed each game 3 times, done, done, done with monster hunter, done, and done as of 2 months ago
Metroid Prime?
i tried metroid but wasnt a huge fan, also tried hollow knight. dropped it as well.
I tried it and went back to KBM. There's still nothing that can't be played just as well (if not better) with a keyboard and mouse setup than with a garbage gamepad. Only reason to have one is if you want to emulate a Playstation or an Xbox experience and/or you just feel like using it sometimes (it's difficult to just recline with a keyboard and mouse compared to a gamepad). Otherwise, KBM is overall a better experience.
Bro nobody gets a gamepad for their PC to replace KBM, it's only for specific games.
>nothing that can't be played just as well
Dirt Rally, any racing game with some degree of sim. Flight Sims.
I'd argue that even those games play find with a keyboard and mouse. Just takes some getting used to. A game I think would be horrible to play on KBM would be something like SSX 3 and the Tony Hawk games.
you never played rally then dumbfrick. You can't play with the highest sim difficulty without throttle control.
Black person ive used at least for a bit, literally every mainstream console controller since the 2600. the position is preference ya dolt.
I play platformers and fps games and third person games and racing games using a gamepad and pretty much any emulator with one
it's very awkward not to otherwise and is just simply uncomfortable
Why would you play FPS games with a gamepad instead of a mouse and keyboard? Also questioning the TPS too.
The main fps games I play are console shit
>Timesplitters, Turok, call of juarez gunslinger
I was never a fan of quake but I do play doom and serious sam and half life with a mouse and keyboard
>TPS
the batman games are awful on a keyboard and mouse and same with most Third person game
the only exception I have is just cause because mouse and keyboard in that game feels fine and that's not mentioning survival horror games
No ew
i like how premium and soft it feels
that said the rumble doesnt work well and it doesnt work at all for some games like atelier ryza 2
>pc
>controller
i mean sure but frick no lmao.
imagine using a keyboard to play super mario
>bro but I'm a speedrunner
just lmao
That's a bad example Anon... I used to play side scrolls with keyboard and it was fine. I mean arrow keys or WASD is basically a DPAD.
>bad example
>fricking your wrist for the sake of precise moment you were never meant to have playing a mario game
using a mouse and keyboard in most games is just pretty much cheating except for sandbox shit and maybe some early 2000s and late 90s games which case it does not matter at all because it's a who gives a frick make your own fun scenario
only when gyro becomes standard in games it would be fine
The best part about PC gaming is having the freedom to use whatever peripheral you want, be it a HOTAS, gamepad from any brand, or a fricking onahole.
It is very good but that shitty drifting ruins it. You can easily fix it for a time by opening and cleaning it but it is a pain in the ass.
Without that problem though it is an awesome controller.
>left stick in the wrong place
>worst battery life of all 1st party controllers
>largest controller, yet somehow the lightest
It's fricking terrible
yes, I use it for all my pc gaming and love it
Yes they are fricking amazing.
why is your controller white?
why is your keyboard white?
>black
Fricking disgusting
Why couldn't they make the controller completely white instead of two-tone?
Because sony is moronic
the all black one looks way better anyway
does it require any third party programs to connect it to your pc, or are there drivers built in?
Steam itself acts as a driver loader for it which is nice, but otherwise no sony shit never has PC drivers or support and I fricking hate it.
There's no drivers built in yet but you can use DS4 windows or steam input
DS4 windows is generally better and supports more games but if you want the new features working you're better off just connecting to usb-c
There's a DualSense firmware updater for PC, and Steam recognizes it instantly.
For literally anything else that doesn't work use DS4Windows or the DualSense equivalent.
People really over-exaggerate it being a pain. It's so fricking easy to get it working with any game. And with Steam it's literally plug and play.
Yeah, I like it. Issue I have is that you have to have the thing plugged in and disable steam input for the adaptive triggers to interact correctly with games, which is sort of frustrating. But it's cool
In games that have native support for this pad (i.e. the recent Sony ports), does it work over Bluetooth, or only USB?
Context: The official library given to developers to support the PS4 pad (libscepad) only seems to work with USB connections, so games with official support for the DS4 didn't work over Bluetooth.
But the technique required to read the pad over BT is only slightly different from reading it over USB, and many third parties (Steam, SDL2, Linux) support both USB and BT with ease. No idea why Sony didn't feel the need.
I'm hoping they took the opportunity to fix this for the official PC Dualsense support?
Games with native support for playstation controllers use bluetooth with a few exceptions but you can counteract this with DS4 windows
Triggers also DS4 windows but for haptics you need to be wired
>for haptics you need to be wired
OK so they still aren't fully supporting BT mode, that's annoying.
I can think of ways to get around this and trick those games into supporting haptics/gyro/etc over BT, but not sure if it's worth the time/if enough people would care.
they'll probably fix it soon since they're porting more and more to pc and even something along the lines of a dualsense driver on steam was found on steamdb.
