Yeah the marketing for this game has been a real shitshow. I found out about it two weeks before it came out because Tyson Hesse happened to repost a 30-second gameplay clip, otherwise I probably never would have heard of it. Shadowdropping amidst Helldivers 2 and fricking FF7 wasn't exactly a strong play either.
Because your passive-aggressiveness is off-putting and it's making me not want to play the game, which I'm sure is a fine game but its fans aren't doing it any favors with their unprofessionalism.
They tried to have comfy threads only for 2 schizo morons cry about Mania for half the posts. I'm not being passive aggressive, I am actively calling you moronic.

So you're going to let two people dictate how you treat others who may not know about the game due to the shadowdrop? Again, this is not professional and considering the people who made this game, bad press will hurt the game, including people like you who call others moronic and lash out for no reason.
I'm a "defender" (ie. I like the game) and that's my post. I'm not sure why you think people who like the game would hesitate to admit that the marketing and launch have done it a disservice.
Because the people who are making these threads are being obnoxious just because of a few shitposters. Maybe if they ignored them and tried to sell the game without any snarky remarks, others would give it a chance and grow to like it.

It's like half the posts in every thread, anon. I dunno who has an axe to grind or why, but there's not a lot one can do to encourage actual discussion about the game once someone starts going "FLOP FLOP FLOP UGLY CHARACTER troony FLOP". I just close the thread and hope the next one is better.

>that egregiously long wait time for the yo-yo to properly grab the ledge
Criminal to be honest, this fricked me up so many times and half the time when it did work Penny would never be vaulted over the platform. It feels like there's a little too much unpredicability with Penny's moveset on whether they'll actually do the thing you want successfully, it pisses me off.
On that particular ledge I figured out it was consistent if I angled it slightly (like 10-20 degrees) instead of being perpendicular to the wall. For a few others it seems like the yoyo needs to collide with something close to the edge for it to work consistently.
>Almost every major video game press site gives it a headline coverage when they released their previews >Perfect opportunity to give out their release date >Channels like Digital Foundry giving it free coverage >Almost everyone in the industry giving these guys a platform to announce something >Instead decide to launch the game by announcing its release on a 6am PDT/9am EST Nintendo PARTNER Direct (Not even an actual Nintendo Direct people watch) >Burried in-between a Splatoon 3 DLC drop and an SMTV expansion announcement >Also on the same day that the Elden Ring DLC was revealed
If this game flops, I do NOT feel bad for them. These clowns had numerous, NUMEROUS opportunities to get the word out but they decided to do a memedrop. They must have been sniffing their own farts after Mania and think people owe them success. Any other indie dev would be praying to get the coverage that they did and these dumb fricks squandered it. This is entirely on them.
fast moving speedrun oriented 3d platformers are boring
what is the point in detailed environments when there's an optimal path in the form of a straight line through the entire level?
Indie devs see clips like this and think "That's cool, we should design the game so the player has to do this" instead of "That's cool, we should design a game where players want to do this"
I've already put about 20 hours into it so far, within striking distance of top 100 on 1-1 and then I'm gonna start practicing 7-1. Picking away at the remaining optional goals & coins when I don't feel like speed autism. Sonic Robo Blast 2 is probably still going to remain my favorite 3D platformer but this is the closest anything has come to making me reconsider that in a very long time.
It's quite buggy, and you have to stick to 60fps or below or the physics get a little weird (though they're patching this), but it's fricking superb beneath the jank
Indie devs see clips like this and think "That's cool, we should design the game so the player has to do this" instead of "That's cool, we should design a game where players want to do this"
you literally haven't played the fricking game
you're complaining about it not doing shit that it literally fricking does
nothing?
you can literally mash a to get them off you
why are you pretending that at all has to do with swinging over half the fricking level at precise angles after hours of practice
what's the point of even having obstacles when you can just easily swing past everything
why not make obstacles where swinging is required in that case
I really tried to like this game, but frankly it's pretty disappointing >every level after the first world don't feel designed around being able to complete it within 1 combo since there's way too many stop-&-go level gimmicks that are often mandatory for progression like the palm trees from W2 or the swinging poles where your momentum isnt transferred when swinging from them >the actual platforming feels like guesswork due to the awful sense of depth in this game, anytime whenever there was an electric fence obstacle it felt like 50/50 crapshoot whether I was too close or not. The drop shadow is dogshit too, doesn't scale up or down based on proximity to the ground like a good 3D platformer would. >the combo system in general feels half-assed, arguably to the game's detriment since it's practically begging you to please do some schmovement for the postcard rewards when all you need to do is spam jump, dash-swing over and over again. Yet there's so many things in the levels that are designed to halt your momentum. >buggy as hell, can phase through moving platforms while performing peel-outs or just phase through anything because you were going to fast? I've consistently experienced me phasing through the ground and fricking up my combos. >bosses are awful, especially the last one. >collectibles and npc sidequests also break the game's momentum, and I know I could just ignore them but I'm a completionist. Game's a complete slog to 100%.
This is the Mario Sunshine of 3D platformers in the most derogatory way I can say it. Solid movement mechanics held back by lack of focus and disjointed priorities + lots of bugs. It's bordering on good, but on the whole I didn't think it was fun.

you are moronic considering sunshine is the 2nd best 3d Mario
this game shits on hat in time
That's exactly what I mean. People who like Sunshine will like Penny. They share pretty similar design flaws and are both exceptionally unpolished but if you are charmed by the world and setting it'll be enough to win you over. Sunshine is a mess of a game and I have a hateboner for that game that only gets bigger with every replay. It's a bottom-tier Mario game in my eyes, and honestly I will never quite understand its appeal but uh you do you.
I think peoples problem is they're expecting sonic instead of a real platformer.
they think they should rush through the level because sonic levels are empty and have nothing to do.
just look at all the morons on steam comparing it to sonic mania when it plays nothing like it. it's more like mario or ape escape.
That's precisely my issue with it, it simultaneously feels like its designed as mario platformer as a front but in reality wants you to find different shortcuts that circumvent that Mario-esque platforming. The first world is very upfront with this approach, if you follow the platforming by the book it's not that fun. But as soon as you start making your own shortcuts using Penny's toolkit it becomes really satisfying and the first world was at least designed around this. Most of the designed platforming is all setdressing, it's deliberately designed to slow you down but in reality it is in fact intended for you to NOT follow it. If it committed to this and allowed me to do cool shit like in Pizza Tower where I can collect everything and keep my combo until the end I would've liked it more.
Unfortunately, there's a plethora of level gimmicks that are both mandatory and halt your momentum like the aforementioned palm trees from W2 or the destructible lightbulbs in W7 or 8, can't remember. Going for full completion necessitates you stopping dead in your tracks and doing the Mario-esque stop-&-go shit that the first world actively discouraged. I don't like the game because it doesn't go hard enough to commit to this philosophy and actively working against you with it's dogshit camera angles.
On top of that, as someone who completed the scrapbook, the game doesn't really do a good job at telling you what you should be aiming for?
Did you know collecting tons of coins gets you 10K score points which is equal to getting all the collectibles?
I sure as frick didn't until i had 2 levels left, the game also makes the gay QTE mandatory for 3K points is awful. Palmtrees are the death of momentum in this game and since you can just infinite combo, it makes the score feel less worth it unless you choose to play it fair
you would hate bowsers fury, ape escape and jak and daxer and the majority of 3D platformers too.
because you sometimes have to stop and perform tasks in an area for 10 seconds.
watch any speed run of them and there are times where they settle in a location for a bit.
this is not a bad thing but you're a sonic autists who was expecting a completely different genre of game.
what the frick are you complaining about?
even sonic games have worse gimmicks than this.
the wheels you have to spindash in place on, screws, push blocks, seesaws, literal QTEs in later games.

Here's an example of a perfect run ruined by the palmtree. The palmtree will autokill your combo every single time without fail and some levels you simply can't avoid using them. It's awful game design. Most of the time the gimmicks can be salvaged but this is just the fricking worse

I know that anon, but thats not the point, sometimes you can't avoid using these fricking things like in world 5 or the secret level with the plamtrees
But I love Bowser's Fury, a lot actually. I don't mind slower-paced platformers at all, some of my favorites are exactly that. Penny's issue is that it turns into that after the first world but also still wants to be a momentum-based platformer. Ironically, me getting better at Penny's movement and controls made me dislike the game even more.
I think you can route around most/all combo-breaking gimmicks with enough effort which I generally consider a fun challenge, but I do agree the palmtrees are shit.
i already 100%'d it and I don't really care about doing time attack mode without any rewards; it's fun but I don't have the autism to keep up with people who find ways to skip parts of the stage
I kind of hated it at first, and I'm still not sold on the aesthetic, but the second world is pretty cool so far and the controls are starting to click over repeating the first two star levels over and over again.
How are you expected to get 15000 points in the second star level though?
>Go into a roll any time you're about to touch the ground to keep your combo going, works like the manual from Tony Hawk
That's exactly what I did and what happened to me.
is it possible to full combo through every level? because interacting with some items and pieces is fricked and it seems like you're required to stop and drop your combo
but I also noticed that if you input a swing low to the ground you can land and spin to keep your combo in some situations, which helps a little
You can get around some of the awkward spots in some worlds. For instance if you spin on the popcorn lilypads you keep the combo going. Those fricking palm trees are just shit
I'm not sure if it's possible for every level; I've been trying to route the Moltobene stages myself but the firewalls and green launchpad things make it very tricky.
You can also grab items with Around The World if you do it low to the ground; there's two examples in this video

No there are unique enemies in world 6 that you can kill normally with the yoyo and they all drop 1000 points so you don't have to try for that world.
Mostly it is just penguins, Fire, green, wheel, nets, blue penguins. Think thats it, there's bigger pink penguins too but they all mostly act the same
Because none of the characters look frickable.
really?
that's it? You seriously can't play video games if you aren't also wacking it? What are you, one of those Family Guy Tiktok zoomers?
