The art direction is completely abysmal. From the horrible one-dimensional deviantart tier line weight on everything to the absolute garbage rendering that is messy, ugly and completely amateur, which doesn't even know what it wants to be, flat color? "pillow shaded"? fully rendered with light and shadow? It's several of these things at once and none of them at all! Only good thing about it is that it tries to copy the mannerist perspective of the renaissance, which is flat and wrong but reflective of the understanding of depth perception artists had at the time. It's as if they just went to Pinterest, googled "renaissance painting" and copy pasted what they saw instead of actually trying. That's literally the only "accurate" thing about it, for a game that is supposed to be autistically " historically accurate fiction" everything looks completely awful and beyond low effort and a complete embarrassment from the one responsible for the art direction.
This is honestly pathetic and they should feel ashamed to put out something like this while making the claims on twitter about it and calling everyone that disagrees with them "a grognard". Learn to paint homosexual.
The worst part, is how the MC has this dead inside stare and likeness of Sawyer. He looks exactly like him. This sort of unintentional(at least I hope so) narcissism is some kind of special autism. They literally went to google and wrote "medieval painting" and then failed to even make a proper copy. They couldn't even be bothered to make their lazy dogshit lineart through the entire painting like it actually looks like in the churches you complete double shit eating homosexual. There are countless examples with better lines, background or literally anything you can find if you wanted to actually try. And they didn't. It's a dream sequence. When he's in the real world it is completely woodcut, at different parts of the game it appears he walks through paintings.

There are literally tablet and mobile games that are visually executed better than this. You just can't be serious at all. This is the most low effort attempt at both line work and copying an aesthetic that has been seen in any indie title. I am disappointed OP, I thought an art expert like you would catch that the main character is based on likeness to Albecht Dürer. And you even referenced his book. That is even more disappointing that you missed it.

He doesn't, the features are completely different. Durer doesn't have drooping eyelids, his nose is much more hooked and his jaw is not as accentuated. He looks similar yes but it's not Durer. Superimpose Sawyer's face nearby and look at it, especially the eyes.
