fake quote created by Steven L Kent in his book "The history of video games volume 1".
The truth is Miyamoto loved Donkey Kong Country as he was heavily involved in it from the start.
The other lie "Yoshi's Island looks cartoon as a frick you to marketing asking them to make it like DKC" is false as well.
Yoshi's Islands wonderful graphics only came when Nintendo hired a new artist during the early developmental stages and he drew a pastel cloud with rough edges to give a childlike impression, which the rest of the team decided to base the game off of. While marketing did ask them if they could incorporate more cgi into the game such as Mortal Kombat and DKC and Kirby Superstar's backgrounds, the team held against the opinion because they thought the pastel look made them stand out from the crowd
This has been a "stop spreading misinformation" post, have a good day!
nah it came out after but while in development they made the changes to make the backgrounds more cgi like and that's why Nintendo wanted YI to be like it too
>The truth is Miyamoto loved Donkey Kong Country as he was heavily involved in it from the start.
The truth is that he only did that because DK was literally his IP and he wanted to make sure it didn't get too denintendofied. Like Starfox, he passes off DK to devs he wants to slow and grind down with stupid Nintendo bullshit.

He SAYS the quote is an off-hand comment during an interview. So:
>1. This isn't part of the interview. >2. There's him doing a translation so who knows what the original context is. >3. he has not provided any notes or recordings of said off-hand comment. >4. The book was written some time after the interview, so his memory could be hazy. >5. Miyamoto actually responded during an IGN interview about online comments saying he didn't like DKC, and that he was confused by such statements as he oversaw the entire project and gave input at every step.
In short, he hyped up some off hand comment that was likely innocent. You could easily see Miyamoto saying something like "I guess a big selling point is the graphics".
Hey it's one of the only games of theirs he actually didn't destroy.
Didn't Miyamoto not like DKC's art style?
Miyamoto was butthurt that Nintendo approved of DKC's 3d graphics as opposed to Yoshi's island. He said this primarily because it sold better in the jap market which is what crossed him into regarding Rare as his rival later on during n64. More lulzy shit happened that put him to shame (such as him having to delay OoT after seeing Banjo and shitty bricks at how much more technical/better looking it was).
None of it's false, in fact the majority of it is his own words (especially the part about the rivalry). This isn't snopes by the way, you're honestly not helping "your case" by posting shit that confirms you can get the facts right but the story still and utterly incomplete.
>Retro Shittyios
If it was so good why did it kill the franchise
There's a reason he gave it to them. If he gives them Starfox then Retro studios has already taken a dive.
>None of it's false
It's all blatantly false because Miyamoto was the one who approved the fricking design in the first place >Father of DK and Mario >Oh but he has no say on their subject matter, only Nintendo does
Absolutely fricking moronic
DAILY REMINDER >SMWgot btfo by DKC in the SNES >M64 got btfo by BK >Mario Kart 64 got btfo by Diddy Kong Racing >He seethed so hard about the graphics that he made Yoshi Island >Was just on par with DKC2
No wonder he sold rare away

title so like a sniveling conniver he intercepted them at their Hotel befoe E3 and struck a deal to change it to Starfox adventures. Because he absolutely and totally had a starfox adventure game in the works after spending nearly a decade on it as a rail shooter.

It's literally false, Miyamoto has never once said that or had any animosity to dkc or rare no matter how much your headcanon believes so
>Words are actions and events on a timeline
To be honest I'm humoring you. I couldn't give a shit what he says, the man purposefully drags around a lacky translator when speaking to English cameras despite knowing and speaking English. He has never denied it, he has only swatted it off by insisting that he worked hard on it (because he had to because it was his fricking IP in the first place).

This is fricking moron, the absolute stupidest shit I've read on here in a while. The dude liked the game and DK's new design so much that he helped with Diddy's design by collaborating with Rare on it, on top of that he's even drawn Rare's DK in his old school art style which they use as for Mario Party Superstar's stickers
You're a fricking idiot
I can't fricking help it when I see a post that legitimately fricking moronic. Yeah, you can say he's merely pretending but it still takes a special kind of stupid just to fabricate bullshit on that level.
You're confusing shit posters and contrarians for real people. it's wildly popular upon release for both it's graphics, music, atmosphere, and tight gameplay. Though made by Brits, it has that feeling and tight gameplay associated with Japanese games of that era. Many 2D platformers from europeans focused on detailed pixel art but had slow boring gameplay.
I'm joining that guy's gang, and I'm gonna frick you up in the name of DKC2 being slightly better than the first game. I have a lead pipe and a sleeveless denim jacket, and I'm fricking pissed

Now, come back to bed.
that guy's posts really aren't all that bad is what's honestly the funniest thing to me about him being a shameless namegay and pass buyer. I really have no leg to stand on when it comes to criticizing someone for buying a pass either since I've spent like $20 on Something Awful before
Honestly this wasn't a controversial ranking until you zoomers were old enough to type. Many fans only liked playing as DK not Diddly Kid. In large part this is why I prefer the new games.
Even DKC3, which doesn't his the same musical heights as the first two, still has a stellar water level theme. The Country games have a flawless track record in that regard.

Lately I've started apreciating DKC3 ost and atmosphere far more, there's something sort of comfy/eerie about it that isn't really found anywhere else, DKC2 still is the GOAT fun wise, but DKC3 deserves respect for what it does.
>Donkey Kong games are critically acclaimed >Every title sells millions >One of the most iconic characters in gaming >Zero (0) games in 9 years
Why does Nintendo hate him?
Scared of bad publicity because you never know when some white journalist will call you racist when they see some parallel between the Kongs and kangz.
I almost want this to happen because I still have enough faith in the general public to at least stick up for something as harmless as Donkey Kong the cool hip hop lovin' gorilla
Because the best DK games were made outside of Nintendo's development divisions, and Retro Studios seems to be trapped in some Metroid Prime-themed purgatory for the foreseeable future.
DKC1 has aged like shit and i'm not pretending it's good anymore
even 3 with every level being a gimmick is a million times more fun than 1 but people just hate it because muh baby kong
Everyone loves this game, what are you on? 2 was great as well, but I pretty much never go back to it because of the higher difficulty. Having something like limited saves in a 2d platformer is an unusual idea but I think it works, makes the game pretty intense.
>Doesn't have good graphics >Doesn't have good gameplay >Doesn't have any semblance of difficulty for 99.9993% of the game (sometimes none at all) >Doesn't have anything engaging going on >Most games are just a rehash with 1 gimmick added
so what's is it then?
This is the opinion of someone who doesn't actually play video-games, I guess if you just look up a video, you'd think it's kind boring, it doesn't have that many unique mechanics, but if you had actually played it you'd know how great it feels, the whole is more than the sum of its parts.
People underestimate how hard it is to do a simple 2D hop and bop platformer. Remember the Mascot era where everyone tried to replicate the success of Mario and Sonic and 95% of them failed hard in the gameplay department.
Even now we got a hundred Metroid / SotN inspired games but very few people will even make an attempt the much higher selling hop and bops. 90% of this genre is from the core gameplay, it is incredibly easy to fail.
my criticism for dkc1 >dk is slow and his hurtbox elongates when jumping and running >bonus stages are a waste of time >too many cave stages >winky fricking sucks >enemies go about their predetermined path and never react to the player (except the armadillo) >bosses are a joke >too many eveline fischer tracks
I just don't like how sometimes I can't tell which monkey I'm controlling and that the one you don't control is tied to you by invisible rope and will pull you off a platform to your death.

Still objectively better than Stickerbush Shitphony.
Gameplay wise DKC is mediocre, its very basic with no unique features or even high skill movement mechanics
