I was REALLY hoping the Remake would tone down or shorten Tartarus a bit and rework Full Moon bosses into mini P5-like dungeons, just because it would be nice to have non-procedually generated gameplay as well. But I agree that Tartarus isn't as boring as it used to now, especially for the first 100 or so floors. Would be nice if the banter inside Tartarus wasn't interrupted by literally everything though.

In 2 it's just atrocious, in 3 it doesn't ruin it or anything but I think it'd make for a more compelling story if the protagonist could actually speak on his own and went from being more melancholic and detached to learning to value his life. You can still see it as that kind of story as is, but I think it would be more effective if he could speak outside the small bits of dialogue you choose for him.

As I get older, I don't really get how you can self-insert in the series. Sure, they're blank slates, but the dialogue for their choices shows some personality, they all have histories in the world, I'm not a fricking teenage Japanese person, etc. I'm not against self insertion, but you can't really make these guys your own, they seem like characters that have personality you just guide. That being said being fully voiced is fully gay

If I look at the P4 and 5 cast, it seems to me that they were designed to just be a balanced group of traditional anime tropes that can play off each other and be the focus for one dungeon, but they don't necessarily go much deeper than that since the major overarching plot is completely unrelated to them. If Chie never had to face her shadow, P4 would have ended the exact same way. Meanwhile, all the major character moments in P3 are absolutely crucial to the story being told.
I think that's a very valid point. Both in 4 and 5, the development of the characters felt like it fell off a cliff as soon as the story finished with their section, and they just joined up with the group. Afterwards, their development was reliant entirely on the S. Link, but since that's something a player might not ever engage in, you can't really put their development pre or post development in the story. As a result, they just exist in the story without doing too much, growing, or pushing forward in the plot. Even in 3, you couldn't engage with the females until they progress on their development, so the S. Links weren't something that drove themselves as a character, but something that drove their relationship with (you).
I like 3 the best. P4 was interesting but the weakest of the new trinity. P5 wasn't as bad as shitposters say, it's just the most popular so it also attracts the most hate. It has a strong theme and narrative with weak main characters and abhorrent, glacial gameplay pacing. P3 inherited one of the worst parts about replaying P5 - the social stat screen opening literally every single time you gain a point, even if all your stats are maxed out.
I think in the case of P5 a part of the problem is that it has by far the strongest start of any of the nusonas. None of the other nusonas fall off a cliff like P5 does after you pwn Kamoshida.
I don't believe that's true for a second. My first Persona was P4G on steam and it was an absolute slog to play through, the story was nice and all but all the social interactions were so fricking boring.
It's not like the characters were bad or anything, it's just that these little day segments sucked the fun completely out of it since everything was so minuscule. The dungeons were boring as well. I'm not sure why this game is praised so highly, I've played dungeons crawlers from the 90s with more charm.
I think a general appeal of Persona is that, while the social aspect and the dungeon crawling are mediocre on their own, they feed into each other in a way that makes the day-to-day somewhat addicting.
Level up social links -> Make more powerful personas -> curbstomp the dungeon -> go back to leveling up social links
It's a formula that works decently well, even if all Persona games have an issue that they only get easier the further you get into them

The EXP you see at the end of the fight is split between who's left alive in your party, if you couple that with the new EXP catch-up mechanic, you can straight up cheese the game. It's also nice to give more EXP to the MC because you can fuse better Personas too instead of just getting better stats or one or two new moves.
I got my Fortune read for the one that turns floors into Golden Hands or strong enemies and just kept cycling the same 10 floors with only the MC until they popped, then murdering them all with a half-decent phys Persona. Now I'm level 40 and I just got Koro at level 35 lol

I'd argue P4 cast was better than P5 cast by a mile. P4 cast may not have that story related character arcs but they still felt more real than whatever p5 was suppose to be

That's actually what I liked about it.
I feel like that door himself had a somewhat implied character arc, despite being a mute selfinsert.
He starts out as an apathetic frick who doesn't give a shit about anything, because of his troubled childhood, but watching others struggle and overcoming their or come to term with their setbacks in life slowly, but surely inspires him to care about things again.
Which is why gets stronger due to the social links enriching him as a person ratger you being a saint or badass that enriches others life.
Him giving a frick about life again culminates in him giving the ultimate frick by giving his life to save everyone else which is "the answer" so to speak l some characters speak of when they talk about what he did.
Which the movies canonized to an extend.
The problem with P3's social links and to a slightly lesser degree 4's and 5's S-links is that you are motivated by the way points are awarded to say what people want to hear rather than what a good friend should say. If you try to minmax your Minato he comes off like a complete sociopath.
This is true in every Persona although P4 gets away from this with ONE social link for the Moon one. If you just tell her what shes wants to hear and date her its a bad outcome. I dont even like her that much but I was pleasantly surprised since its almost always yesman shit.

Casting a debuff is equivalent to buffing everyone at once.
I didn't like using Yukari in FES. Healing was much better left to the MC due to the AI having a really poor sense for it and her magic damage is nothing special, not to mention Aigis taking a dump all over her ranged physical damage the moment you get her in July.

I always found it a bit strange that the door in the back on the ground floor of the dorm never ever gets used. Even the one in the entrance-side corner gets used in the Answer, but not that one.

Or either you can hang out with someone during noon, and then study at night if you don't have anything else to do (Hanging out with Tanaka, Mutatsu or Koromaru, Ken, Shinjiro if you're playing as the Fmc)
At least that's how it worked on Portable, i haven't tried Reload yet

I'm pretty sure the clocks can only spawn on freshly explored floors, as in you can't get to the end of the Tartarus block, warp back and open up all the chests so the clock spawns and you can get the rest up to speed with the XP you gained getting to the end of the block.

what I do is I rush the miniboss floors and after I beat them all I go back to the last set of floors and grind until I run out of SP
i usually tried to stay 5 levels ahead of the regular shadows in the original
honestly with tartarus abductions, i doubt you will ever need to do dry grinding
should I just go to tartarus a few days before the deadline to make sure I can do all the missing people quests in one go? or is it better to go as soon as the new block unlocks? so far I've been doing the latter and it kinda sucks getting a new quest and having to waste an evening in tartarus
after a while, sp management is not an issue, so always go like 3-2 days before the full moon, some of the missing persons show up super close to the deadline and it always sucks to have to go back in for one person

You had to do some Moon ranks to get reserve party members an adequate amount of EXP.
Reserves in P3 can level up too but you have to open locked chests for a chance for a clock door to open and choose 2 party members to match your level. It sucks.

They're absolutely broken. I accidentally fused Carmen and while jamming a load of junk personas together to make space and it was comically overpowered compared to everything else available at that level. Agilao when other personas only get first level damage spells and a passive for +75% damage from fire spells. Assume the others are just as jacked.
Fused her back into a Pyro Jack and kept Agilao, as a treat.

I was REALLY hoping the Remake would tone down or shorten Tartarus a bit and rework Full Moon bosses into mini P5-like dungeons, just because it would be nice to have non-procedually generated gameplay as well. But I agree that Tartarus isn't as boring as it used to now, especially for the first 100 or so floors. Would be nice if the banter inside Tartarus wasn't interrupted by literally everything though.

I like Persona a lot, but I really hate how committed it is to having silent protagonists. In 2 it's just atrocious, in 3 it doesn't ruin it or anything but I think it'd make for a more compelling story if the protagonist could actually speak on his own and went from being more melancholic and detached to learning to value his life. You can still see it as that kind of story as is, but I think it would be more effective if he could speak outside the small bits of dialogue you choose for him.
I don't think it would affect the story much for 4 and 5 so it doesn't feel as bad there, but it still feels like a bit of a shame there seeing as it's stifling the personalities of the protagonists, and Joker in particular is one where they feel like they had a specific personality in mind for him with how physically expressive he can be, but he's only physically expressive when he could have had a voice to go with it. I don't mind self-insert protagonists, but I think the P3-5 protagonists could all have still worked as self-inserts while having some more of their own personality.

As I get older, I don't really get how you can self-insert in the series. P3's characters being the main driving force behind the plot, if I were to boil it down to just one thing. From then, I feel like they were able to make characters that feel way less one-note. If each character has a role to play, I feel like it's easier to write a unique personality for them that feels more natural and believable, which in turn makes all the development they get hit way harder. If I look at the P4 and 5 cast, it seems to me that they were designed to just be a balanced group of traditional anime tropes that can play off each other and be the focus for one dungeon, but they don't necessarily go much deeper than that since the major overarching plot is completely unrelated to them. If Chie never had to face her shadow, P4 would have ended the exact same way. Meanwhile, all the major character moments in P3 are absolutely crucial to the story being told.

I think that's a very valid point. Both in 4 and 5, the development of the characters felt like it fell off a cliff as soon as the story finished with their section, and they just joined up with the group. Afterwards, their development was reliant entirely on the S. Link, but since that's something a player might not ever engage in, you can't really put their development pre or post development in the story. As a result, they just exist in the story without doing too much, growing, or pushing forward in the plot. Even in 3, you couldn't engage with the females until they progress on their development, so the S. Links weren't something that drove themselves as a character, but something that drove their relationship with (you).
I like 3 the best. P4 was interesting but the weakest of the new trinity. P5 wasn't as bad as shitposters say, it's just the most popular so it also attracts the most hate. It has a strong theme and narrative with weak main characters and abhorrent, glacial gameplay pacing. P3 inherited one of the worst parts about replaying P5 - the social stat screen opening literally every single time you gain a point, even if all your stats are maxed out.
I think in the case of P5 a part of the problem is that it has by far the strongest start of any of the nusonas. None of the other nusonas fall off a cliff like P5 does after you pwn Kamoshida.

I don't believe that's true for a second. My first Persona was P4G on steam and it was an absolute slog to play through, the story was nice and all but all the social interactions were so fricking boring.
It's not like the characters were bad or anything, it's just that these little day segments sucked the fun completely out of it since everything was so minuscule. The dungeons were boring as well. I'm not sure why this game is praised so highly, I've played dungeons crawlers from the 90s with more charm.
I think a general appeal of Persona is that, while the social aspect and the dungeon crawling are mediocre on their own, they feed into each other in a way that makes the day-to-day somewhat addicting.
Level up social links -> Make more powerful personas -> curbstomp the dungeon -> go back to leveling up social links
It's a formula that works decently well, even if all Persona games have an issue that they only get easier the further you get into them

The EXP you see at the end of the fight is split between who's left alive in your party, if you couple that with the new EXP catch-up mechanic, you can straight up cheese the game. It's also nice to give more EXP to the MC because you can fuse better Personas too instead of just getting better stats or one or two new moves.
I did this by accident on the first full moon. No party members have been left alive since.
I got my Fortune read for the one that turns floors into Golden Hands or strong enemies and just kept cycling the same 10 floors with only the MC until they popped, then murdering them all with a half-decent phys Persona. Now I'm level 40 and I just got Koro at level 35 lol
