That might be what it tried to do but the whole change your heart thing makes no sense even within the context of the story, it contradicts itself a few times in how it works and then it never actually manages to make a point. The main characters never learn anything about the human condition other than "haha changed your heart haha frick you adults haha"
Its terrible because it LOOKS like the game is gearing up to something interesting and deep...and then it never happens.

        Anonymous

i always thought the change of heart thing and the "frick le adults kek" was supposed to show that its usually the older fricks who refuse change and use their power to frick over the younger ones who want to change things

          Anonymous

This makes sense especially in Japan since oldfricks are in charge of things and you can't ever replace them until they die. Which at that point you are going to be THE oldfrick yourself and you are going to keep the youth down.

It should had lean more on the corruption angle, show that there is a moral or thought out reason they never do it to teenagers (seriously wouldnt teenagers be the prime target for the phamtom thieves? they are all little c**ts) and then either realize they were wrong and changing hearts doesnt solve anything or that its a power too strong to wield or that its morally repugnant even if you are in the right.
But they never question it, I think they do for 2 seconds and thats it when it should have been in my opinion the CENTERPIECE of the plot

            >they are all little c**ts
they usually attack the ones who frick over others through their power like kamoshida. What power does the average teenager have? their dumb but not threating.
            > and then either realize they were wrong and changing hearts doesnt solve anything
played it 3 years ago so i dont remember everything but im pretty sure they questioned their doing after every change of heart, and the third semester was all about that.

Yes the plot sould have been much darker given the concept of changing the free will of people as you want, it makes me think that once they wrote the plot they had to censor themselves (maybe forced by sega) and rewrote the game to make it a power fantasy and nothing else.
Royal salvages it a little with the maruki plot but its not centered enough in the main idea of the plot IMO and its too late.

Maybe, they certainly wanted a mass audience and they got it. Pretty much all series are bound to get softer and softer as they go sadly unless its something made by one person, and even then it happens.
Who knows maybe P6 will go back to being dark but I really doubt it.

why should they question it when the targets are all the scum of the earth (inb4 seething Kamoshidacels). The problem is the exact opposite, they question it when they really have no reason to given the shit they were dealing with.

Kamoshit's arc and Sae's arc did the whole corruption thing pretty well. Knowing about how utterly fricked the justice system is in Japan before playing the game helped a lot though.

          Anonymous

This is the point. There are plenty of good adults who change over the course of the fifth game. Sae, chiefly, but even Sojiro, and the adult social links change mostly without assistance. The bad guys are the ones who don't change, get their heart changed, but because they themselves couldn't change, they were 'imprisoned.' Thus forced to capitulate, it was trying to draw the line between thoughts and actions.
Mostly because it's principally about how thoughts dictate your actions, the students of Shujin felt powerless against Kamoshida, but likely weren't. Because he was given free reign, but people unable to speak, and by those intentionally turning a blind eye, even people who THOUGHT Kamoshida should be punished never acted on it.

Persona 5 is basically the coming together of the overall themes of the series since 3. So, if you're familiar with smt, its all about changing reality by siding with an alignment. Personas verse is basically smt unfricked by demon god shit and the persona mcs are there to keep it that way.
We see it when society wishes to go full order fricking up the balance and again with maruki. Makoto and yu, especially makoto, were verifiable failures when it came to protecting the persona verse. Makoto didn't solve anything and became a giant band-aid instead. So long as humanity wished to die she would always be there. Killing her would mean killing humanity but thats not really the case for joker? You completely rushed through the last few months, or you only ever watched a let's play. Nyx is not the personification of Death. It is Death. It doesn't matter what humanity's perception of her is. That's why Ryoji says defeating her is impossible. You can't beat death, just like you can't defeat the idea of gravity or the existence of headaches.
You might be thinking of Erebus. Erebus, like Yaldabaoth, is the manifestation of a collective desire, and that can be manipulated by a collective change in cognition.

The red states are poor because they're filled with Africans and Latin Americans on average. The quality of their whites is also dogshit outside of Texas.

That's what doomed CA. It was firing on all cylinders when it took on the white flight from the Midwest and NE, which contain some of the some of the smartest whites of the American states. That's how you get the aerospace industry and silicon valley, a state damn near close to a white paradise. Blacks and Mexicans flooding in to parasitize on that prosperity turned it into a place far more like the kinds of societies Africans and Latin Americans create when left to their own devices. The only thing keeping it together is a ruthless oligarchy of highly intelligent Brahmins, israelites, and what's left of the WASP stock like Newsom. Otherwise it would be a failed state like Louisiana or Mississippi.

If you played Vanilla and then played another 100 hours of Royal to see new content you are definitely on the spectrum.

    >the entire Maruki debate could be solved by Maruki giving people the choice to join his world
The real question becomes how to divide the world in a way which lets sufferinggays and anti-sufferinggays co-exist on the same landmass without sufferinggays getting upset and trying to ruin the utopia.

ADULTS I HATE THE FREAKING ADULTS AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
I expected something like that at first because of you b***hes whining all the time but it was way more reasonable than that. Ryuji is the one who's the most likely to say shit like this and he's a dumbass. And even as a dumbass he's justified because of how the game starts with a realistic story of a teacher raping and beating up students and compromising their studies and thus their entire future just because he wants to get his dick wet and everyone ignored him or covered up for him. Then you get plenty of social links or confidents or whatever with adult characters and Sojiro and Sae helps the main characters quite a lot.

Persona 4 is just as childish as 5. 3 is the only one worth playing. Can't speak for the first two games.

Writing is breddy gud in the earlier game. Nothing's better than Nanjo calling Masao a moronic monkey, and Masao telling Nanjo to just go fricking die.
Hanya coming back in 2 and still being a total butthole, but also singlehandedly protecting the students from the invading Nazis was great too.

Dev hell fricked the story, P5 should have been the best in the series

It's shitty japslop writing that ruined the story. The actual plot is about breaking free from self imposed chains, of soaring above the cattle, of learning how to individuate your ego and either manipulate or just tell the NPCs to go frick themselves, and their fake ideals materialized in the demiurge. It's a good occult basis that leaves no loose ends, but the actual plot isn't about the evils or the unfairness of the world and the set of playable characters represents no good archetypes, there's no inner conflict and there definitely isn't any growth.
It could have been literally the ultimate form of the quintessential JRPG story but it's too afraid to be more than lazily indulgent so it ends up coming off as really fricking stupid and juvenile, and not in a good way.
At least the twins were hot.

Yeah they were much too afraid of saying Frick you to society and then showing the consequences, Normalgays would have not understood it, hell the media might have said it was a nazi game lol
Instead it feels like you are playing a marvel super hero game

The character stuff is pretty good. People really liked the gang. The plot was forgettable in a way that previous ones were not.

I think people's minds glazed over after Kamoshida.

I also liked that the characters all looked slightly off in the original, it made them a lot more interesting imo. Any Aigis is a positive for me even if she won't have her heartwarming awkward smile again.

I actually like the shoulder things once I got over the initial reaction of "anything different = bad" that always happens, this one complain just feels like shazamposting to me, also when did armbands turn bad? because the MC of 3 still wears it on P5R fight, is this related to the ikraine war or something?

The thing is the armbands are still in the game they just get replaced later by the shoulder thingy so I think you dont have a case, if this was some nazi imagery histerya they wouldnt be in the game at all right

There are tons of good adults in the game moron.
Talking about Ryuji's teenage angst like it's the main theme of the game is fricking moronic. 5, especially Royal, is by far the most well thought take on the Jungian themes of the previous games and brings it all to its logical conclusion with Maruki, who by the way was a good adult too.

    >Persona 3
Shartlus realizing their Japanese ultranationalism and Shinto supremacism were a little too obvious in previous megaten games so they made P3 to say "Hey fellow Americans, don't you love Jesus? We hecking love Jesus!!?!?!!?".
    >Perosna 4
After trashing themselves they returned to the roots with the entire mythology and concepts of P4 being taken from Japanese myths and religion.
Me and the boys moments, the soundtrack, Nanako, Dojima, EVERYDAY'S GREAT AT YOUR JUNES, and most importantly, Adachi, were the only saving graces that turned the game into something great.
    >Persona 5
Very interesting overall plot and story concepts with two great bro characters (Yusuke and Ryuji) and several good side characters getting wasted on a boring and moronic narrative and writing. I guess the writers were too afraid with their "frick society" theme because Japs have a very submissive slave mentality when it comes to their ridiculously rigid and traditionalist society that requires you to be a good slave and keep your head down.

      DoctorGreen

      >have a very submissive slave mentality
Are you Murrican? When a group of people collectively decided to act one way to save themselves, they don't become slaves.
Look at animatrix. Robots had great individuality and that was pushed aside somewhat when they became exiled. This isn't slave mentality, it is survivor mentality.
Unlike the robots, the Japan is the USA's b***h. This is origin of the Japs' frustrations, it's just that they realize it when they are too old.

Persona 5 was supposed to be a criticism of Japan's "respect your elders" culture resulting in those elders being able to get away with heinous bullshit while everyone around them had to suck it up and deal with it, because they would either look like awful people for "disrespecting" their elders, or the elders in question had enough influence and power to more directly ruin someone's life through getting them arrested for something, which having something on your permanent record may as well be a death sentence to your social life and work opportunities in Japan.
