I think suicide due to academic performance is incredibly rare among HS students, much less so by regularly-failing ones. If anything it’s the high-performing ones that flip out after failing a test or not getting admitted to their top-pick university.
It’s less so a “you FAILED have a nice day” thing as much as it is a “damn dude you must be fricking stupid to show up at the bottom this often” one.

Junpei makes the worst grade at the school, and there is a scene where Junpei overhears the girls talking about his grades.
I imagine for a egoist like Junpei that really hurts because in his mind he's the best at everything, so when he's brought back to reality he gets upset and defensive, because he knows he's a loser and doesn't want to admit it. I personally don't care for Junpei so maybe I am misunderstanding him, but that's how I view him so far and I'm 20+ hours into the game. He's an egoist, very prideful, but then you see flashes of his true nature as a scared teenager who knows he's worthless with no willpower. I'm not sure how else the game wanted me to view him for the first part of the game when it's painfully obvious that's how he's depicted.
One of his victory quotes is "Nice one, Junpei." He refers to himself in the third person and even gets upset when people don't compliment him on his stories or skills when showing them off. He's mad that he wasn't picked as leader and feels some form of hatred towards the MC for stealing the spotlight, and during the Monorail fight we see him run off ahead to be the "hero" because Yukari and the MC were hesitant about rushing in.
I think I understand him quite well, maybe you don't. I don't see how else you would view him for at least the first 20-25 hours of the game.

Junpei is pretty likable to me and I find his flaws endearing. Even if you don't, they still set up his character's development perfectly. There is no other character in the series that matures as naturally as he does. Also, imagine how drab this game would be without him. Wtf is the trick to killing the beetle enemies quickly around the 60ish floors? They do a frick ton of damage, have no elemental weaknesses and seem to only be damage sponges to waste magic power on. Even using instant kill spells are not worth it because of the RNG.
They seem to only really appear in the spam of 2 floors and then vanish entirely. Or at least that's how it worked for me. Also I guess I was overlevelled or something because while annoying I didn't feel like they were oppressive or frick ton of damage.
Dude frick those things, are they not weak to dark attacks? It was the only element I didn't try on them, so I assumed that was their weakness. I don't really carry around a dark-type persona, but there are a lot of enemies in the 50-70 floor range that are weak to dark attacks, fricking annoying, but like other people said I just buffed Junpei and prayed for critical attacks, or you can try inflicting a status ailment on them like charm.
i tried to distress them with akihiko and pray for crits, junpei somehow always crit with assault dive on them

btw, presona 3 fes wont let you cointrol your party members. the game was built arround you contrllling your party members through tactics and such. If this is a HUGE problem, there are patches that turn it to direct commands.

I got lucky and got Auto Tarakuja from Nigi Mitama and I was going to fuse into Tam Lim to unga bunga but jesus I'm going to be grinding for a while. Everyone else is out of SP too so I have no idea how I'm suppose to clear it except buff MC and powerlevel so hard that physical skills just screw over the bosses.

I still had trouble in the 2nd block with the Relic boss that identifies your party's weaknesses, but once I got theurgy and Fuuka's abilities the difficulty definitely went down a few steps.

Aigis is tankier but a worse healer. Akihiko doesn't have as much debuffs but hits a little harder. Ken and Koro benefit from having actual damage based light and dark spells. Ken has better support and buffs and Koro has more stuff for debuffs and status ailments with debilitate.
Wet cardboard is better than Yukari, I benched her as soon as Fuuka joined and Mitsuru went back to the frontline team. I'm running MC, Junpei, Akihito, and Mitsuru. I must admit I'm a bit disappointed with Akihito's abilities, got him at level 25 and everything he has is pretty underwhelming right now. I might bench him once I get more party members, depending on their loadout and usefulness.
It sucks because I think Akihito is cool, just his persona is underwhelming at least in it's first evolution, but then ZA WARUDO is so cool looking.
Unless things are different endgame in Reload, Yukari used to be the best Magic Damage dealer and Healer. Though it looks like they changed Ken so who the frick knows.

I'm beginning to believe Yukari brings more to the table than Akihito, you just need to make sure the MC has a persona with lightning skills (which there are a shit ton) and that's it. Akihito has nothing unique to him at all, unless he starts getting badass stuff after level 30-35 and above.
Even his theurgy attack is short and lame, it's just a volleyball spike of electric energy.
Akihiko is some weird all rounder character. Since they took away Mitsuru's healing he's a decent stop gap
In P3P, where you can control party members, Yukari is outclassed by Mitsuru in basically every way, and by Ken in most ways. Mitsuru minus the moronation is obscenely powerful. Same for player controlled Akihiko.
Idk if this one has player controlled party members, but I've not seen anyone complaining about it so I assume player controlled party members are in the game. In which case, assuming nothing else has changed, Yukari is probably still your third choice in magic attackers, when Ken, non-moronic Mitsuru, and non-moronic Akihiko are available.
Yukari is the Morgana of P3. Dedicated healer with wind magic. Dedicated healers in RPGs suck in general because you have potions to heal you and you lose out on dps, especially in Persona since MC can double as a healer at any point.
I told him to say "I'll be back" for goodbye and I legitimately laugh out loud every time he does the Terminator voice again several months later. God bless voice acted Social Links.

Pretty strong early game theurgy since it downs enemies and does medium ALMIGHTY damage to everyone It's better than the MC's default theurgy attack which is just an AoE heal that increases speed for the party. I guess it's good for boss fights though.

Okay so basically assuming ken starts with Mediarama and Recarm: >Yukari is nerfed without wind amp but makes up for it with some new utility in masukunda >junpei is about the same but that shift passive looks really good for trash encounters >akihiko loses fist master and marukunda, severely hampering his utility and damage but he still gets to stack elec boost/amp >Mitsuru loses ice amp while gaining what seems to be a Ragnarok tier Ice spell, she also gets a ton more utility in marukunda >Aigis stays pretty much the same, she basically only loses Masukukaja which is nothing >Koromaru is super fricking buffed with Debilitate, i don’t know if he starts with fire/dark boost to make him get a high multiplier but he is a colossal boss killer character with debilitate alone >ken loses Dia line which doesn’t matter since media line is better but loses spear master and primal force which hurts him much much more, considering he still gets light amp, if he starts with light boost then he can at least still outpace yukari in damage but he will no longer hit as hard as he did in original
Best party in fes and p3p i would definitely say was aki/ken and either mitsuru/junpei but in reload i am positive the best party will be koromaru/Aigis and if there is a wind amp accessory them Yukari otherwise Ken since his kit is far more useful utility wise
They nerfed ken since he doesn’t get spear multiplier anymore and superbuffed koromaru. Aigis is pretty much the same. Akihiko is super nerfed since he lost marukunda AND fist master and Mitsuru is a weird mix of nerfed and buffed at the same time since she doesn’t seem to get ice amp but getd marukunda and an ice burning petals. Yukari was nerfed, i dont see wind amp. Junpei stays about the same.

Only Yukarigays care about having her in the party. There are plenty of support persona the MC can acquire and other party members persona learn support/healing spells. Akihito is one of them, and I think Mitsuru can heal as well.
How am I gimping myself by benching her? She is literally horrible, at least for the first 20 hours of the game, does fricking nothing. She's a healbawd for the most part because you have no other healers until MC gets a healer like Principality or that one Mitami you get at level 12 I think.

I guess you have a slight point since you start out with just Junpei and Yukari, and the game forces you to take Akihito once you get him because you NEED A four person party, I think? I just found Mitsuru better than Yukari. Mitsuru has a charm attack and learns an AoE distress attack like at level 24 or some shit. The only thing at this point you're missing is healing, and Akihito can heal, and so can the MC.

I'm really underwhelmed by Yukari's offensive options. The MC can heal if he has to and there's a bunch of fricking items that heal the party. At least for the moment, I'm benching her because I prefer Junpei, Akihiko, and Mitsuru's offensive abilities. Yukari's greatest strength is that Sukunda she's got on her right now.
I think the first day is scripted to not let you go very far. But beyond that, you should always plan and prepare to get done with Tartarus (read, reach the blockage AND amass a good amount of money to last you the rest of the month) in one night. Not a huge deal if you need 2. Anything more than that and you are literally gimping yourself.

In my experience, you need A LOT of money in this game, specifically to help fuse new persona as the compendium gets very expensive with higher level persona. A level 20 persona might costs you 8,000 yen or some shit to pull it out, also weapons and armor get more expensive as well. I saw one armor set for 10,000, so yeah I try to get as much money as I can personally. Maybe there is an easier way but if you are like me and want to make all the persona and fuse new ones, you're going to need money to do that.
Think of it this way. The only worth mentioning method to get money in this game is Tartarus. You need money for gear and stat level up activities that are worth your time. But also, you want to be done with Tartarus for the month in 1 night so you have time to do the other activities. So amassing as much money as possible in that 1 night becomes ridiculously important. Otherwise you'll be missing gear and/or having to study in your room which is basically what people who failed to plan well end up doing.

Prepare to spend 2-3+ hours in Tartarus to get to the next roadblock, and depending on how much you grind and what not. I usually spend about that length of time on each trip to Tartarus when going to the next roadblock, it's kind of frustrating, but you get a lot of level ups and treasure.
The intended progress is "get to a boss, beat it, call it a day" or "get to a boss, call it a day" but shit obviously didn't work that way back in the day.
If you play your cards right you should be able to get to the end. All the bosses aren't that sp consuming and you should be always fishing for weaknesses. Use your fricking snuff souls; don't be stingy

Anon trust me don't sweat it; you'll be swimming in fragments by mid game. Elizabeth gives you some for leveling up any social links and there are requests late on that will give you 3 or 5 a piece. I haven't gone under 20 in a long time even with me opening every chest

For your first run through the game do whatever you want, though my advice would be to focus on social stats maybe half the time. Unless they fixed it, there's no way to max out all SLs on a completely new game.

Yeah, but that was insanely strong. Damage output was somewhat nerfed for the other characters in the party, probably to accommodate for baton pass and theurgy. It wasn't enough, the game is still way easier.
It was broken in 4/5 because you had the option to control skill sets.
In P3, everyone's list was automatic, so Mitsuru for example would never have both Ice Boost + Amp inherently. You'd have to make a weapon/accessory slot to do so.
They also didn't really balance that well if it was the intent because Akihiko for example can still run

Because the Answer which came with FES inherently is more than likely going to be paid DLC,there's cut content like the MC using other weapons, they re-recorded the original songs and they sound worse and if you want party control or harder combat there are mods that exist for FES that do that.
Stylistically it's a prettier game and there's like 3 new tracks and more costumes but the trade off isn't worth it and it's not a good remake.

Fun fact, Junpei only consistently targets fire weakness if you let him act freely. If you set him to full assault, he'll almost always hit everything with physical attacks regardless of if they're weak to fire or not.

He's an egoist, very prideful, but then you see flashes of his true nature as a scared teenager who knows he's worthless with no willpower. I'm not sure how else the game wanted me to view him for the first part of the game when it's painfully obvious that's how he's depicted.
One of his victory quotes is "Nice one, Junpei." He refers to himself in the third person and even gets upset when people don't compliment him on his stories or skills when showing them off. He's mad that he wasn't picked as leader and feels some form of hatred towards the MC for stealing the spotlight, and during the Monorail fight we see him run off ahead to be the "hero" because Yukari and the MC were hesitant about rushing in.
I think I understand him quite well, maybe you don't. I don't see how else you would view him for at least the first 20-25 hours of the game.

American schools don't post academic rankings publicly, but the kids at the top always know their position and compete against each other anyway. Wtf is the trick to killing the beetle enemies quickly around the 60ish floors? They do a frick ton of damage, have no elemental weaknesses and seem to only be damage sponges to waste magic power on. Even using instant kill spells are not worth it because of the RNG.
They seem to only really appear in the spam of 2 floors and then vanish entirely. Or at least that's how it worked for me. Also I guess I was overlevelled or something because while annoying I didn't feel like they were oppressive or frick ton of damage.

Dude frick those things, are they not weak to dark attacks? It was the only element I didn't try on them, so I assumed that was their weakness. I don't really carry around a dark-type persona, but there are a lot of enemies in the 50-70 floor range that are weak to dark attacks, fricking annoying, but like other people said I just buffed Junpei and prayed for critical attacks, or you can try inflicting a status ailment on them like charm.
This, probably best to use a status ailment on them and then hope for a crit.

btw, presona 3 fes wont let you cointrol your party members. the game was built arround you contrllling your party members through tactics and such. If this is a HUGE problem, there are patches that turn it to direct commands.

I got lucky and got Auto Tarakuja from Nigi Mitama and I was going to fuse into Tam Lim to unga bunga but jesus I'm going to be grinding for a while. the start of the game on merciless is by far the hardest part
trust me just bear with it, playing the game on heart after the second full moon is still way too fricking easy with baton pass and the limit break bullshit, merciless is the best way to go about it if you're not new

I still had trouble in the 2nd block with the Relic boss that identifies your party's weaknesses, but once I got theurgy and Fuuka's abilities the difficulty definitely went down a few steps.
Aigis is tankier but a worse healer. Akihiko doesn't have as much debuffs but hits a little harder. Ken and Koro benefit from having actual damage based light and dark spells. Ken has better support and buffs and Koro has more stuff for debuffs and status ailments with debilitate.
NTA, but just out of curiosity what would you say is the best line up? MC, Aegis, Ken, and Koro? Or does it really matter?

I must admit I'm a bit disappointed with Akihito's abilities, got him at level 25 and everything he has is pretty underwhelming right now. I might bench him once I get more party members, depending on their loadout and usefulness.
It sucks because I think Akihito is cool, just his persona is underwhelming at least in it's first evolution, but then ZA WARUDO is so cool looking.

In P3P, where you can control party members, Yukari is outclassed by Mitsuru in basically every way, and by Ken in most ways. Mitsuru minus the moronation is obscenely powerful. Same for player controlled Akihiko.
Idk if this one has player controlled party members, but I've not seen anyone complaining about it so I assume player controlled party members are in the game. In which case, assuming nothing else has changed, Yukari is probably still your third choice in magic attackers, when Ken, non-moronic Mitsuru, and non-moronic Akihiko are available.
Yukari is the Morgana of P3. Dedicated healer with wind magic. Dedicated healers in RPGs suck in general because you have potions to heal you and you lose out on dps, especially in Persona since MC can double as a healer at any point.

Pretty strong early game theurgy since it downs enemies and does medium ALMIGHTY damage to everyone It's better than the MC's default theurgy attack which is just an AoE heal that increases speed for the party. I guess it's good for boss fights though.

Okay so basically assuming ken starts with Mediarama and Recarm:

I guess you have a slight point since you start out with just Junpei and Yukari, and the game forces you to take Akihito once you get him because you NEED A four person party, I think? I just found Mitsuru better than Yukari. Mitsuru has a charm attack and learns an AoE distress attack like at level 24 or some shit. The only thing at this point you're missing is healing, and Akihito can heal, and so can the MC.

I'm really underwhelmed by Yukari's offensive options. The MC can heal if he has to and there's a bunch of fricking items that heal the party. At least for the moment, I'm benching her because I prefer Junpei, Akihiko, and Mitsuru's offensive abilities. Yukari's greatest strength is that Sukunda she's got on her right now.
Also Junpei's aoe physical skill that he gets very early is a really good filler.

money is very important, especially early on
In my experience, you need A LOT of money in this game, specifically to help fuse new persona as the compendium gets very expensive with higher level persona. A level 20 persona might costs you 8,000 yen or some shit to pull it out, also weapons and armor get more expensive as well. I saw one armor set for 10,000, so yeah I try to get as much money as I can personally. Maybe there is an easier way but if you are like me and want to make all the persona and fuse new ones, you're going to need money to do that.

Think of it this way. The only worth mentioning method to get money in this game is Tartarus. You need money for gear and stat level up activities that are worth your time. But also, you want to be done with Tartarus for the month in 1 night so you have time to do the other activities. So amassing as much money as possible in that 1 night becomes ridiculously important. Otherwise you'll be missing gear and/or having to study in your room which is basically what people who failed to plan well end up doing.
As far as you can.
I think the first day is scripted to not let you go very far. But beyond that, you should always plan and prepare to get done with Tartarus (read, reach the blockage AND amass a good amount of money to last you the rest of the month) in one night. Not a huge deal if you need 2. Anything more than that and you are literally gimping yourself.
Prepare to spend 2-3+ hours in Tartarus to get to the next roadblock, and depending on how much you grind and what not. I usually spend about that length of time on each trip to Tartarus when going to the next roadblock, it's kind of frustrating, but you get a lot of level ups and treasure.
The intended progress is "get to a boss, beat it, call it a day" or "get to a boss, call it a day" but shit obviously didn't work that way back in the day.
Until you empty your SP.
If you play your cards right you should be able to get to the end. All the bosses aren't that sp consuming and you should be always fishing for weaknesses. Use your fricking snuff souls; don't be stingy

For your first run through the game do whatever you want, though my advice would be to focus on social stats maybe half the time. Unless they fixed it, there's no way to max out all SLs on a completely new game.

Step 1: Make sure you have a persona of the same type before you initiate with them. That will give you a free point.
Step 2: Save before you talk to them, and reload if you don't get the max amount of points possible.

There is a thing at the shrine for your social links, but I'm not 100% on what it does yet.

Yeah, but that was insanely strong. Damage output was somewhat nerfed for the other characters in the party, probably to accommodate for baton pass and theurgy. It wasn't enough, the game is still way easier.
It was broken in 4/5 because you had the option to control skill sets.
In P3, everyone's list was automatic, so Mitsuru for example would never have both Ice Boost + Amp inherently. You'd have to make a weapon/accessory slot to do so.
They also didn't really balance that well if it was the intent because Akihiko for example can still run

Fun fact, Junpei only consistently targets fire weakness if you let him act freely. If you set him to full assault, he'll almost always hit everything with physical attacks regardless of if they're weak to fire or not.
