The social links are way closer to the original ones than I thought. A lot of the lines and correct dialogue options are straight one-for-one copies with how they were in FES. I'm surprised they didn't rewrite anything like the Moon social link or you having to encourage Kazuishi to keep practicing despite his messed up knee. Only thing I noticed is they replace the hug option in Yukari's link with something else (that still reverses the relationship)

They fixed her. It's not some weird age perspective thing. She isn't verbally abusing you and Junpei in this version.
It's one of the interesting aspects of the social link, especially playing it recently (though I played the ps3 port not the remake), ATLUS seemed almost to predict this.
2009 was a time of change for MMOs, I distinctivelly remember people talking less and less, the feeling of socialness that .hack thought would prevail well into the future were, actually, already becoming absent at that time.

I took the complaining about the new ost as just an overreaction, but as soon as the tracks started playing I realized it really is that bad. Like the singer just downed 4 xanex and is using 3 cans of RedBull to stay awake. The new tracks are not funky and cannot be grooved to.

I'm sure this has been posted in other threads but the problem with the lighting in the dorm is that the only source of "light" is the ceiling lights and the MC only has any shadows or reflective lighting on his hair when directly under one. All of the other textures in the dorm are bright as frick without any respect to this lighting. The ray tracing implementation in this game is amateur as hell and it's most obvious in this one setting you see every day in game
Yeah and that's why it runs so shit on the deck if you don't turn off the setting. I've seen a lot of conflicting thoughts on how exactly it's used in different screens but it seems to work pretty well in Tartarus. That's why it has actual functional mirrors in the bathrooms and your dorm room

That's exactly what fuels it. Aigis was there in his last moments, and "inherited" his power too (thanks, Philemon), while Yukari could only make an empty promise to a cold, dead hand. She felt powerless and completely regretful that she didn't recognize what was happening in time, and she completely closed off her heart again to avoid dealing with the pain, jealous and resentful of Aigis. Aigis did too, but luckily Aigis is a robot and CAN do that, and so Aigis' rejected humanity manifested externally as her Shadow Self, Metis.
Fun fact: Yukari's Persona Isis is frail and magic-oriented, but when you face her in Colosseum Purgatorio its Phys stat shoots to 91 (higher than Akihiko's), and she learns Primal Force (the strongest Phys attack in the game, which Akihiko also doesn't get). At that point she was physically the strongest person in SEES.
People really need to give the Answer another look, it was flawed and had some horse shit difficulty spikes/puzzle bosses but it had great details and moments >Junpei of all people ends up the mature calm voice of reason throughout

SEES actually forgot about the security system until Koromaru pointed out a security camera was recording late in the year. Mitsuru assigned you to figure out why it wasn't working properly and then left everything to you.
After the protagonist appeared, getting new Persona Users suddenly became a cakewalk. Putting aside Amada, whom they weren't especially interested in inducting due to his youth, Junpei, Aigis, Koromaru and Fuuka all awoke prior to moving into the dorm. Also Shinjiro. So there was no need to watch them in order to check their potential.
Incidentally, the reason finding new Persona Users suddenly became so easy is because of the protagonist. It's not a coincidence that all the Persona Users correspond to the same twelve Arcana as the Shadows.

If you'll also notice, none of the common Shadows' Arcana ever precede The Magician, nor exceed The Hanged Man. Only the Reaper embodies Death, and there's zero Shadows for the Arcanas that exceed Death. The only one we see is Teddie, whose Arcana is The Star. Even Nyx stops at Death, despite there being more Major Arcanas that exceed Death.
So since "gods" are essentially super-powerful Shadows, formed of the Collective Unconsciousness from the archetypes imprinted upon it by mankind, what would happen if a god was created by fusing those ultra-rare Shadows whose Arcana exceed Death?
That's mainly unique to P3. The reason for that is specifically because of Nyx. Shadows with Arcanas past Death wouldn't be born from Tartarus. If anything, it's weird that P4 keeps the limitation, but that's mainly because so much of that game's just asset flips of P3.
It's better imo but the addition of controllable party members and Shift from P5 makes combat criminally easy. I'd play on Hard or Maniac if you're used to the original.

Answer basically turns the game more in line with what P1/P2 were like where it was as dungeon crawling interspersed with story segments in-between. So I can understand why people who started with 3 would hate it because its a wide departure from what the main game was like. What did you play P3P? The other characters don't remember either your love interest just happens to get there first when they all briefly get their memories back before you die. It hardly breaks the integrity of the narrative to say your love interest ran faster to see you.

I get it, I was lucky to catch the aigisbro the day before release. By the time you can play it the mods will be already out, so you will have a better experience than most people here.
Worth a try, Persona 3 Portable was the only thing that gave me comfort when I moved from Cali to another state by myself. I had been ostracized from my Cali friend group and moving to a brand new state sucked, but P3P kept me thinking maybe adjusting to a new place won't be so bad; I can just pretend to build social links with new people here.
As someone that's only played Portable and not the original, seeing cutscenes using models looks like it's going to be amazing (as opposed to only being able to imagine the cutscenes happening cause it's a fricking visual novel)

Why do so many people hype up Tired/Sick as a big thing when its only really relevant for the first couple blocks? And even then the first block is so short that you can probably do all of it at once anyway.
Because it naturally feels like both you and the characters have progressed and become stronger. There’s no reason to mention Tartarus being hard to breathe in anymore since it doesn’t affect you gameplaywise at all, and your early-midgame group is a bunch of godlike individuals who can slaughter thousands and thousands of shadows and clear multiple bosses without getting tired. Story-gameplay dissonance.
The only time I remember someone actually getting Tired was during Block 2 in my FES run. And the whole auto healing on returning to the ground floor made long dungeon crawls stupidly easy because I was free to just blow my SP on randoms and when I ran out it was just a matter of beelining to the stairs.
None of the other persona games before or after P3 used Tired/Sick instead opting to make long crawls reliant on your SP/Item management so that's definitely what they wanted to focus on like a traditional dungeon crawler.

Floor design in Tartarus is random and how fast it happens is dependent on how your battles went by. It absolutely is possible to go through all of block 1 without tiredness interrupted your exploration.
As for P3P, they nerfed the frick out of Tired/Sick in that it won't kick in the middle of exploration so it should never adversely impact you ever if you're competent.

its after you unlock aigis, whenever you spend a twilight shard on a floor theres a chance for this big clock to appear that lets you level up any ally thats lower than your MCs level up to your level
I’m loving it but that intro was atrocious compared to the original. Yukari talking to herself and spelling it all out, making the anime cutscene into a single walking segment where the MC goes “durrr is that a coffin??? where did everyone go???” and then switching out the animated scene for Thanatos. Absolutely mindboggling decision there.
Other than that the game is great.
Honestly all of the iconic scenes I've seen so far have been vastly inferior, they lack the close up and lingering shots which really amped up the creepiness of the original. Thanato's ENTER is probably the worse offender it lacks the level of horror the original had. Actually that's the entire issue with Reload it's not really horror anymore (as much as P3 classic was horror)

In FES you couldn’t give your party direct commands to fit in with how SEES is each its own person and not just dolls you’re controlling, so you had to tell Yukari to focus on heals or Mitsuru to focus on attacks.
Persona 5 also had the option IIRC
Every Persona game after let you choose if you want a party member to be ai controlled or not. Hell Persona 4 made it as a default whenever someone joined the party, and you had to manually set them if you wanted control.
Status effects are giga busted on merciless, especially against enemies with no weaknesses. You gg'd everything once you got succubus in fes anyway, here you can foul breath/stagnant air very early and mitsuru can completely dominate an enemy formation while charging her shit

I don't like some of Junpei's line deliveries. Just got to the part with the whole Believe It or Don't, and the new lines just didn't hit nearly as good as the older dub. Yukari's is passable, but it feels the worst of what I've heard so far. Feels like she's reading from a script and never got any context for any scene. Akihiko feels really flat at times, but he's got some real oomph in his lines at other times.
Yes. I'm a month in and the new SEES stuff I've seen is Junpei's first "not social link" and then 3 different study group scenes with Mitsuru+Akihiko, Junpei+Yukari and then a final study group scene with all the members of SEES at that point.
I think people won't really be able to say SEES are just a bunch of co-workers after Reload.

No, you can't attribute The Answer to the player. The protagonist is already dead at the end of P3. That means that he, and by extension the player, isn't responsible for what happens after. The protagonist didn't will The Answer into existence. That's 100% the other characters' fault. Whether you choose to engage with it or not, the fact that it happens doesn't change.

If we're going by Maki then yeah, she'd probably sit comfortably in the middle with Maya and Joker, but P1's story is pretty legit. The gang saves the day with the power of friendship and they continue to lead successful lives and still meet up now and then, not much unlike 4's golden ending, really.

The social links are way closer to the original ones than I thought. A lot of the lines and correct dialogue options are straight one-for-one copies with how they were in FES. I'm surprised they didn't rewrite anything like the Moon social link or you having to encourage Kazuishi to keep practicing despite his messed up knee. Only thing I noticed is they replace the hug option in Yukari's link with something else (that still reverses the relationship)

The soundtrack in general is really off on the mixing. Some parts are louder than others, there's a weird muffling in the instrumentals, the singer sounds flat. Doing a Taylor's version of all the tracks feels really unnecessary to begin with. Did they have to replace the soundtrack because of copyright issues or something?

I'm sure this has been posted in other threads but the problem with the lighting in the dorm is that the only source of "light" is the ceiling lights and the MC only has any shadows or reflective lighting on his hair when directly under one. All of the other textures in the dorm are bright as frick without any respect to this lighting. The ray tracing implementation in this game is amateur as hell and it's most obvious in this one setting you see every day in game
Does Reload have ray tracing? I don't see any option for it in the settings and my GPU utilization is extremely low (RTX 3060TI @ 1440p120Hz)

That's exactly what fuels it. Aigis was there in his last moments, and "inherited" his power too (thanks, Philemon), while Yukari could only make an empty promise to a cold, dead hand. She felt powerless and completely regretful that she didn't recognize what was happening in time, and she completely closed off her heart again to avoid dealing with the pain, jealous and resentful of Aigis. Aigis did too, but luckily Aigis is a robot and CAN do that, and so Aigis' rejected humanity manifested externally as her Shadow Self, Metis.
Fun fact: Yukari's Persona Isis is frail and magic-oriented, but when you face her in Colosseum Purgatorio its Phys stat shoots to 91 (higher than Akihiko's), and she learns Primal Force (the strongest Phys attack in the game, which Akihiko also doesn't get). At that point she was physically the strongest person in SEES.
People really need to give the Answer another look, it was flawed and had some horse shit difficulty spikes/puzzle bosses but it had great details and moments

SEES actually forgot about the security system until Koromaru pointed out a security camera was recording late in the year. Mitsuru assigned you to figure out why it wasn't working properly and then left everything to you.
After the protagonist appeared, getting new Persona Users suddenly became a cakewalk. Putting aside Amada, whom they weren't especially interested in inducting due to his youth, Junpei, Aigis, Koromaru and Fuuka all awoke prior to moving into the dorm. Also Shinjiro. So there was no need to watch them in order to check their potential.
Incidentally, the reason finding new Persona Users suddenly became so easy is because of the protagonist. It's not a coincidence that all the Persona Users correspond to the same twelve Arcana as the Shadows.

If you'll also notice, none of the common Shadows' Arcana ever precede The Magician, nor exceed The Hanged Man. Only the Reaper embodies Death, and there's zero Shadows for the Arcanas that exceed Death. The only one we see is Teddie, whose Arcana is The Star. Even Nyx stops at Death, despite there being more Major Arcanas that exceed Death.
So since "gods" are essentially super-powerful Shadows, formed of the Collective Unconsciousness from the archetypes imprinted upon it by mankind, what would happen if a god was created by fusing those ultra-rare Shadows whose Arcana exceed Death?
That's mainly unique to P3. The reason for that is specifically because of Nyx. Shadows with Arcanas past Death wouldn't be born from Tartarus. If anything, it's weird that P4 keeps the limitation, but that's mainly because so much of that game's just asset flips of P3.

Answer basically turns the game more in line with what P1/P2 were like where it was as dungeon crawling interspersed with story segments in-between. So I can understand why people who started with 3 would hate it because its a wide departure from what the main game was like. Worth a try, Persona 3 Portable was the only thing that gave me comfort when I moved from Cali to another state by myself. I had been ostracized from my Cali friend group and moving to a brand new state sucked, but P3P kept me thinking maybe adjusting to a new place won't be so bad; I can just pretend to build social links with new people here.

Removing the tired/sick mechanic sucks because then they’re just encouraging you to do all of it in one day like 4 and 5 did.
Why do so many people hype up Tired/Sick as a big thing when its only really relevant for the first couple blocks? And even then the first block is so short that you can probably do all of it at once anyway.
Because it naturally feels like both you and the characters have progressed and become stronger. There’s no reason to mention Tartarus being hard to breathe in anymore since it doesn’t affect you gameplaywise at all, and your early-midgame group is a bunch of godlike individuals who can slaughter thousands and thousands of shadows and clear multiple bosses without getting tired. Story-gameplay dissonance.
The only time I remember someone actually getting Tired was during Block 2 in my FES run. And the whole auto healing on returning to the ground floor made long dungeon crawls stupidly easy because I was free to just blow my SP on randoms and when I ran out it was just a matter of beelining to the stairs.
None of the other persona games before or after P3 used Tired/Sick instead opting to make long crawls reliant on your SP/Item management so that's definitely what they wanted to focus on like a traditional dungeon crawler.

You haven’t played FES in 10 years, I replayed it again when all the kids were getting into P3P last year so it’s fresh in my mind. Having it in the beginning of the game makes it feel as though your ragtag group of high schoolers is actually getting better at navigating and surviving this hard-to-breathe-in labyrinth
Floor design in Tartarus is random and how fast it happens is dependent on how your battles went by. It absolutely is possible to go through all of block 1 without tiredness interrupted your exploration.
As for P3P, they nerfed the frick out of Tired/Sick in that it won't kick in the middle of exploration so it should never adversely impact you ever if you're competent.

I’m loving it but that intro was atrocious compared to the original. Yukari talking to herself and spelling it all out, making the anime cutscene into a single walking segment where the MC goes “durrr is that a coffin??? where did everyone go???” and then switching out the animated scene for Thanatos. Absolutely mindboggling decision there.
Other than that the game is great.
Honestly all of the iconic scenes I've seen so far have been vastly inferior, they lack the close up and lingering shots which really amped up the creepiness of the original. Thanato's ENTER is probably the worse offender it lacks the level of horror the original had. Actually that's the entire issue with Reload it's not really horror anymore (as much as P3 classic was horror)

In FES you couldn’t give your party direct commands to fit in with how SEES is each its own person and not just dolls you’re controlling, so you had to tell Yukari to focus on heals or Mitsuru to focus on attacks.
Persona 5 also had the option IIRC
Every Persona game after let you choose if you want a party member to be ai controlled or not. Hell Persona 4 made it as a default whenever someone joined the party, and you had to manually set them if you wanted control.

I don't like some of Junpei's line deliveries. Just got to the part with the whole Believe It or Don't, and the new lines just didn't hit nearly as good as the older dub. Yukari's is passable, but it feels the worst of what I've heard so far. Feels like she's reading from a script and never got any context for any scene. Akihiko feels really flat at times, but he's got some real oomph in his lines at other times.
