I really can't think of anything off the top of my head. My opinions have always been based. I'll keep thinking though and I'll come back if I think of anything.
When I was a kid, I used to think future tech would be so cool to have games with massive worlds you could do anything in.
Grow up, it actually happens.Turns out I like simple concept games more with deep gameplay (often 2D) instead of massive open 3D worlds where everything is shallow.
>someone was so insecure about enjoying a call of duty game, they made this
I always avoided this shit, what did you gays ever see in this guy? or was it all ironic?
He was always joking, just look at the comic where he calls the cops on the guys smoking weed at the party even after he convinces them to stop. I miss the stupid comics but I imagine he was just as annoying as the shitposters we have now
i remember when i was a kid there was the whole cod4 vs bf3 debate. i remember thinking battlefield was better because it was a mature game. eventually i realized i dont even own battlefield and really love cod
the internet has thoroughly broken me. Now I have doubts in every game I enjoy or ever could enjoy, I'm always left questioning if my perceptions and feelings are even real or just lies.
No I'm just saying that this is the response to the internet's lies, underhanded tactics, intimidation, sophistry. Look at the bullshit Ganker pulls and tell me that's not the case.
Look at this thread though. How do you know what's true or not? How do you deal with conflicting information, two dishonest tactics on either side trying to intimidate you into falling in line?
Everyone tries the moral/intellectual guilt shit. The term "grew out of" especially is loaded, what if you regressed?
You do not have to believe anyone, or believe it things in whole. Your information processing is a very personal thing, which sets importance by your value hierarchy, and what you read is others' processing utilizing their value hierarchy. You must simply draw conclusions, then test them. Burn impurities and build truth within your mind.
They were never funny. It was just mocking people cynically and was around the time the internet was shifting from funposting and genuine posts to cynicism and irony, he was just flaunting it
Shitty argument though. Yes, you don't NEED drugs to enjoy something, but it will make everything MORE enjoyable, even if you were already enjoying yourself. Why pass up the superior experience?
>it will make everything MORE enjoyable
it has the possibility to make things better. things aren't automatically better just because you're high.
some things, mostly music, were made with drugs in mind and they're perfectly enjoyable sober.

I used to have an implicit bias against games with an anime artstyle and wouldn't even give them a chance, but I play plenty of games with anime artstyles now.
. There is just something disgustingly pathetic about them, like they are made exclusively by/for virgins.
I've since played a few VNs (Danganronpa, Tsukihime, VA11HALLA, Higurashi) and that one Castlevania reimagining made by the original creator so I don't dismiss them out of hand like I used to.
Anything with a dating mechanism or cartoonish balloon breasts thrown in your face still makes me want to euthanize the human race, though.
For me, I think it was just because of the people I associated with games like that. I had it in my head that there was nothing to any of them beyond having cute girls and wish fulfillment despite not even playing them myself to verify that, and I just thought less of them on that basis. I've gone through a couple of phases of being very shallow with my willingness to even give things a chance, I had a period where I'd only bother with something if it was highly rated and I had a period where I was really contrarian and both of those periods had me shitting on things I hadn't even played just because the idea I had gotten about them from outside, but I still feel that period where I wouldn't try things just because I had a bad impression of its fans was me at my most shallow. I probably wouldn't like half the things I like now if I felt like I shouldn't like something ecause I don't like the community surrounding it.
Nowadays I tend to just ignore things I'm not interested in and haven't played, as opposed to how I used to be where I would form an opinion based on other people's opinons and act like I was as informed about the game I'm talking about as if I had played it myself, and I feel better that I don't do that anymore. It was always such a waste of time to argue about something I didn't even care enough to play for even a little bit.
>I had a period where I was really contrarian and both of those periods had me shitting on things I hadn't even played just because the idea I had gotten about them from outside, but I still feel that period where I wouldn't try things just because I had a bad impression of its fans was me at my most shallow

I've definitely said "oh ya I beat it on hardcore though" several times. God I'm such a homosexual, at least one day ill kill myself.
In the first age, when the site was still young, and moot still posted among the anons, this place was filled to the brim with energetic, aloof and edgy nerds migrating from something awful to whom troll face, epic fail guy and demotivational posters were the height of comedy. They were cringe but innocent and unaware of their cringiness, because they for the most part, trolled and mocked even more embarrassing groups of nerds on the net.

That's a possible turning point, but I think the real end was when the inline extension was introduced. Having everyone getting (You)s and chasing after (You)s really changed the posting culture here.

Yeah I barely bother posting anything of worth now, usually get drowned out by some moron 10 posts up who is doing the most obvious LARP as a twitter SJW and already has 7 (you)s. Mostly just lurk which is a large change from how active I was over a decade ago.
I never really thought about just how damaging the inline extension being introduced was.

Never thought about it either but it makes sense, though it probably coincided with everything on the internet becoming outrage bait once people realized outrage always generates the most clicks, that's just the mentality everywhere now

Nothing in that picture is cringe except for the "EPIC" responses, a word that got destroyed by the G4 journalists of the time and Olivia Munn who thought they were being funny.
Compare Epic to swag and bussy. Not even close, at least one of those is gaming related.
I'm not a real oldgay but back in my day we had tripgays like Lanced Jack, Nigba, Akagi and Walter Joseph Kovacs. I didn't really pay attention to triptroll drama by the time people like quentin arrived because it just felt like more of the same old shit.
I browsed Ganker around 2006-2010 too and they also had a lot of namegays/tripgays, like Anonymous of Japan/Norway/Russia/etc, Hox, Taiga, BADASS MANLY ANIME REVIEWER, Gendo, JOHNNY YONG FRICKING BOSCH, TonberryKing. Everyone used to b***h about tripgays and namegays at the time but in hindsight they gave each board their own individual character.
by god you really are an oldgay
feels like tripgays are pretty much dead as a common thing. there are really only a few namegays in general left on any boards
a bit sad to be tbh, I wonder where they all went. stopped posting or just became anonymous?

They probably grew up and had kids and shit. I was underage until 2010, so the anons who were actually 18+ in 2006 will be like 35-40 now.

Did you think pic related was a joke?
Found /b/ in like summer 06 hunting down sauce on porn from the shooshtime forums.
Speaking of which, I remember when moot had his farewell Q&A, Snacks actually showed up and asked "why does your website sucks" like an absolute legend. Nobody really noticed.
>The more content the game has, the better for the player
This is a big one.
All western AAAs today have content oozing out of every orifice, but at the end of the day that just makes them exhausting and unfocused.
It really is a huge issue in modern gaming, all the players should be delivered the same experience they paid for, if someone is curious and wants to do side content only to realize it never mattered at all then that player will think the game is bad, while on the other hand another player just focuses on the main content would leave the game feeling satisfied.
"Player engagement" is usually my red flag for AAA games. i just finish them quickly and move on.
>There should be a sequel to [IP]
This is me with all Valve titles now.
Portal 2 did everything you can do with the story & mechanics.
Team Fortress 2 is great as it is, and no TF3 will be able to capture the fun & personality.
As for Half-Life... We got Alyx, which is a fine game, but it really proved that all that talent Valve bled during the 2010's left a hole in the company. Valve of 2022 is not the Valve of 2005. They can't churn out masterpieces anymore.
>gameplay purist
This was reactionary to storyhomosexualry. But I understand form and function must go hand in hand, but the gameplay must tell the story. Best example is Dark Souls where the narrative is the player's struggle and triumphs. The ludonarrative is king and adds to a game.
I no longer care that people like things I don't. For both video games and other media people who liked things like mobas or star wars post disney sat in my head rent free before I realized I was unironically going out of my way to get mad and going to look up videos talking shit about them. Now days I just don't have the energy or effort to do that, I'd rather spend that time on things I actually like. It hit me when I was watching mauler's SW videos and I realized I probably spent more time listening to this fricker drone on about Disneywars than people who actually like it spend watching them.
I value my time a lot more now, if a game needs 30+ hours to finish a playthrough I'm already very wary of it. I'd rather play 3 10 hour games than play 1 30 hour game. Unfortunately this means that most RPGs have gone completely out the window. I played Digimon Cyber Sleuths and while I thought it was enjoyable, I'm not ever going to touch it again because I just don't want to spend all of that time when it was never really mechanically satisfying anyways. 60 hours was my total runtime and while I could probably shave that down some it won't be low enough for me to want to do it.
used to be on the open world bandwagon but I left a long time ago.
open world is a terrible trend and there isn't a single good thing to gain from a game being open world. Tailored linear or semi-nonlinear games are objectively better. The only games that can get away with open world shit is sandbox games like memecraft and even then I would argue that most minecraft like survival crafting games are shit.
>Cutscenes are bad, games shouldn't have story
a few different ways I stopped thinking this...
1.
I got into 3d animation and now I love seeing them because when they're good they're way more ambitious than they get in animated films or shorts. They really push the envelope in ways you take for granted.
2.
Some of the best games integrate story and gameplay together. There are techniques in games you can't do in film or novels by involving the player. Something as simple as giving a yes/no option can feel really powerful.
3
Having to walk through an empty field or wait in an elevator while your partner throws exposition and marvel quips at you is 10000x worse than watching a cutscene of the same thing
>doing combat while they speak
That's fricking obnoxious too.
I dropped borderlands 2 partly because of that.
They would chirp up on your com link and deliver mission critical information with no subtitles while you're busy mag dumping into generic bullet sponge enemy #55,276 and his buddies and after a while you're just overwhelmed by a tidal wave of who gives a frick.
>we need more great stories
Nowadays I spam start whenever I see a cutscene pop up. If I'm interested, I'll give it the ol' 2x speed on youtube. When I'm gaymin I wanna gayme, stories take away from that. Don't even get me started on walk n talk sections the fricking WORST
i used to think zelda games were doodoo growing up because you weren't able to jump. then cut to when i was 13, and i played ocarina of time. my opinion on vidya was never the same after that
I used to think that some genres just couldn't be good or had nothing to offer me. I've been proven wrong a few times and realized that no genre is inherently bad and it comes down to who's making it and how. A genre can have a problem of no notable good titles coming out lately but that's more on an industry level.
Even MMOs, a genre which I've never enjoyed and will likely never touch again, has good games. Said good games never hit the US officially so I couldn't have played them without workarounds and translation guides, but they exist.
I've never really changed any, I've always been consistent in my vidya opinions. Only thing I can think of is considering games better than they really are, or as "perfect" when they have outdated gameplay/QoL quirks
5 year old me didn't like Pokemon Red/Blue because the combat was boring and you couldn't jump and I think 5 year old me is based for that
N64/GC has less games but more quality
Actraiser 2 > Actraiser 1 because its all action
Hard/clunky game means good and people will respect you for playing them
Esports is good for vidya
Participating in asinine """"discussions""" about vidya I never played in echo chambers with fellow depressed barely articulate posters, instead of just shutting the frick up and playing vidya.
tried to give a chance to cod vanguard in good faith, it's absolutely mediocre. not even horrible in "unplayable", it's just boring and mediocre enough to make me avoid it
never again
I used to think that RPGs, especially JRPGs, could be improved by the use of timed hit mechanics to make the gameplay more engaging, but have since come to realize that that's instead distracting away from the appeal of RPGs, planning and strategizing and just the fun of building a powerful party, with the addition of action-like elements to it that are not necessarily fitting to a genre that is not about challenging your reflexes.
It's weird to me that all the raging schizos that make regular threads on this board don't go the full tripgay route.
I'd honestly prefer it if they did out themselves, instead of trying to provoke me into the same exact argument 50 times.
Tripgays have almost all gone extinct because its trivial to just filter their trip.
You don't become a tripgay unless you're desperate for attention. And if you make it easier for everyone to ignore your moronic ass then no more (You)'s.
Instead they desperately try to brand their particular style of autism by using the most homosexual obvious vocabulary they can imagine and desperately hope that someone christens them with a gay little name and hope they will go down in the halls of shitposting history.
The trick is, just like tripgays, to ignore those attention starved morons and encourage others to stop replying to their queer ass low quality bait.
>Tripgays have almost all gone extinct because its trivial to just filter their trip.
Tripgays are actually gone because there was a fricking universal purge of everyone using a trip for no real reason years ago. Which, frankly, was a mistake; that shit killed so many good drawgays like 3AB.
To remain on topic... >Playing vidya until 3 am was extremely comfy.
Better to play until midnight then wake up early and play instead of sleeping past noon the next day.
"RTwP is a good combat system"
I used to think videogames were fun.
>grew out of
Is a cope way of saying you changed your mind without conceding you were wrong.
It's a way of admitting that the views you once held were childish.

Quentin was the messiah and we were foolish to shun him. We do not deserve his grace.
Quinten was a voice for normalgays, frick him and frick you

I remember he used to rant about women being prostitutes and shit.
Probably offed himself by now.
You sound like someone who plays their 3DS in public
tbf most people listening to music or using their phone in public are manchildren too, and nobody reads books or watches TV in 2022.
normalgays smoke weed
what made quentin hate the 3ds so much he'd beat the intended audience for playing with it?
He was always joking, just look at the comic where he calls the cops on the guys smoking weed at the party even after he convinces them to stop. I miss the stupid comics but I imagine he was just as annoying as the shitposters we have now

Regression is still growth, just in the wrong direction

Being unable to detect obvious irony is a classic sign of autism.
there's nothing wrong is being autistic, being "ironic" is equivalent to being genuine and I bet you already know that
*with being autistic
Why do treat these stupid mspaint comics like holy scripture here?
They're just funny
They were never funny. It was just mocking people cynically and was around the time the internet was shifting from funposting and genuine posts to cynicism and irony, he was just flaunting it
These reactions are exactly why they're funny lmao seethe stoner

>primordial: 2003-2005, early: 2006-2009, chanology-gamergate interim 2010-2014, murrican politics/buildup to Trump 2015-2016, muh culture wars & election gay scourge 2017-2019, culture wars, nothing new on the shit post front (except corona" 2020- now
Shit has just gotten worse
You can just divide it into 2006-2010, 2011-2016, 2016-
Before 2006 is beyond the event horizon
True, that's a simpler divide
>being honest is cringe
No anon, no.
It was genuine cringe, but done genuinely. When cringe wasn't necessarily bad. It was better times.
It's kinda crazy how much MSpaint OC Ganker used to make compared to now. Even random tripgays had multiple comics made about them.
by god you really are an oldgay
feels like tripgays are pretty much dead as a common thing. there are really only a few namegays in general left on any boards
a bit sad to be tbh, I wonder where they all went. stopped posting or just became anonymous?
>I wonder where they all went. stopped posting or just became anonymous?
They probably grew up and had kids and shit. I was underage until 2010, so the anons who were actually 18+ in 2006 will be like 35-40 now.
>the anons who were actually 18+ in 2006 will be like 35-40 now.
Did you think pic related was a joke?
Found /b/ in like summer 06 hunting down sauce on porn from the shooshtime forums.
he banned W.T. Snacks for life and ran away to mootxico
lol is snacks still a dj?
https://midnightsnacks.fm/
Yes, apparently.
Speaking of which, I remember when moot had his farewell Q&A, Snacks actually showed up and asked "why does your website sucks" like an absolute legend. Nobody really noticed.
A suicidal sonygay.
A manly adonis who we should all aspire to be.
dis homie prob plays his 3ds n public
All those things are fine in moseration and the world accepts that
The Senran Kagura games being good.
3D is better than 2D
I realized that troony reddit games are really not that bad. I found myself loving most of them
i read books now instead of playing vidya
>Before
"Mega Man 2 is the best"
>After
"Mega Man 2 is alright, but overrated, I prefer 3"
I like 4.
Ocarina of Time is the best game of all time.
Now I know it's actually Resident Evil 4 after going back to it time and time again over the past 17 years and having a blast every single time.
>"If a game has a hard mode, then it is the intended way to play it."
>"The more content the game has, the better for the player."
>I don't mind microtransactions if they're purely aesthetic
>Empty space in open worlds is bad
>There should be a sequel to [IP]
I once thought turn based combat was acceptable. My God, I was so stupid to think that.
Isometric games are good.

,
persona 3 was a good game
used to be on the open world bandwagon but I left a long time ago.
open world is a terrible trend and there isn't a single good thing to gain from a game being open world.
See it's bestest when you're doing combat or there's a lot of exploration to happen while they speak
>doing combat while they speak
That's fricking obnoxious too.
I dropped borderlands 2 partly because of that.
They would chirp up on your com link and deliver mission critical information with no subtitles while you're busy mag dumping into generic bullet sponge enemy #55,276 and his buddies and after a while you're just overwhelmed by a tidal wave of who gives a frick.
Black souls has put into shame every story made for a game in decades. It barely has any cutscenes.
Ayo
*smacks lips*
Dark souls on switch any good?
/v/'s opinion matters
Also Ganker is one person
Read the OP dumbass
>consensus doesn't exist
jesus christ this image hurts my soul
extremely dumb fricking picture, the only ones that think like this are tourists.
We used to be a bit of a hivemind before hiromoot took a big gay shit on the site.
>We used to be a bit of a hivemind
Speak for yourself.
No.
>newbie joined post hivemind
>We used to be a bit of a hivemind before hiromoot took a big gay shit on the site.
Contrarians have always existed on this board.
Based image. Disingenuous internet debaters hate him
i post my opinions less because more often than not i just get 5 responses that are just buzzwords
>Ganker is not a hivemind!
go make a sony thread and that invalidates this entire image
challenge in vidya doesn't matter
fortnite is a fun game, and i'm tired of pretending it's not
because it's not. It's a casual third person shooter made for actual morons, a GoW for trannies.
sorry, i've grown out of that opinion
it's not an opinion, sorry.
>we need more great stories
Nowadays I spam start whenever I see a cutscene pop up. If I'm interested, I'll give it the ol' 2x speed on youtube. When I'm gaymin I wanna gayme, stories take away from that. Don't even get me started on walk n talk sections the fricking WORST
Quentin never fails to make the potheads seethe in anger
I don't completely disregard generic dungeons and dragons games any more. Idk if that's personal growth or what
i used to think zelda games were doodoo growing up because you weren't able to jump. then cut to when i was 13, and i played ocarina of time. my opinion on vidya was never the same after that
Story is important
>Souls combat is the best
>porn is cool and people should be more accepting of it
>poor israelites, the nazi were really evil
Dead Space, Final Fantasy XII and Assassin's Creed II are boring games.
linear level design = bad
That's regression
"retro games like SNES and NES are real games, everything else is garbage"
I wasn't alive for either.
Even a trash game can be fun.
Paper Mario is great series, same with sonic
Participating in asinine """"discussions""" about vidya I never played in echo chambers with fellow depressed barely articulate posters, instead of just shutting the frick up and playing vidya.
tried to give a chance to cod vanguard in good faith, it's absolutely mediocre. not even horrible in "unplayable", it's just boring and mediocre enough to make me avoid it
never again
I used to think that playing video games in public was accpetable
Dark Souls 2 is a good game
I used to think the Final Fantasy series was good
When I was a teen and my money was short, I felt like I needed an hour of playtime for every dollar spent to get my money's worth.
While I still say that SA2's Hunting stages mog SA1's, the radar in Adventure 1 is better than SA2's.
The trick is, just like tripgays, to ignore those attention starved morons and encourage others to stop replying to their queer ass low quality bait.
>ignore those attention starved morons and encourage others to stop replying to their queer ass low quality bait
lol imagine thinking this makes a difference when we've seen entire threads of one guy arguing with himself
I hate tripgays so god damn much
>Tripgays have almost all gone extinct because its trivial to just filter their trip.
Tripgays are actually gone because there was a fricking universal purge of everyone using a trip for no real reason years ago. Which, frankly, was a mistake; that shit killed so many good drawgays like 3AB.
Black people deserve human rights.
>"Playstation consoles aren't ONLY for gays!"
i used to say Black person because I thought we were saying it unironically
What's Quentin up to nowadays?
inafune was right at the time
I used to believe raw integer-scaled pixels looked good and were the canonical way to play videogames.
>ds players
not even once
"Turn-based and ATB combat systems are good."
To remain on topic...
>Playing vidya until 3 am was extremely comfy.
Better to play until midnight then wake up early and play instead of sleeping past noon the next day.
Brown people in games bad
