You know. You're absolutely right. Hexen was gorgeous with some absolutely great ideas and impressive tech, but the combat/moment to moment gameplay was complete ass.
I'd prefer a Heretic revival but HeXen is cool too.
They can cut a deal with another company regardless. I think Actiblizz is committed to working with MS, so even if the merger gets blocked ultimately you'll still see a chunk of Xbox/PC-focused games out of the company that were greenlit a while back.
>I'd prefer a Heretic revival but HeXen is cool too.
aren't they basically joined at the hip thematically anyway? i could see more interest in Hexen just due to the classes.
>Do you want to see Hexen come back?
only in that call of duty reskin style where you clear a room then it branches out 2 corridors max and both lead you to the same place
It's not a bad thing, it just means they're gonna have a harder time resurrecting older FPS franchises based on how limited they are and how later entries had to try to be fresh and end up taking elements from each other.
People already accuse 2016 and Eternal or "stealing from Quake", which either hinders the chances of a new Quake or mean that Quake could "steal from Heretic" and so on.
People already think DE will be hard to surpass and then there's the comparisons to Ultrakill, plus how people shat on Doom 3 and COD for being slow.
Exploration in a way is like a reminder that the old games had slow moments and naturally, a Hexen revival would have to emphasise that.
they were primarily combat focused with exploration as a secondary characteristic. the ones that focused on exploration with combat as a secondary focus died out for a reason.
as long as it's cool like Doom 2016. Eternal kept doing that HEH, VIDEO GAMES AM I RIGHT? rick and morty shit the entire time and refused to take itself seriously, it was fricking gay
remember when reggie tried to pretend that he not only played video games, but was a serious smash player? and then it turned out he had never even touched a controller before and was absolute shit at the game?
who said like or dislike? Reggie had blatantly never played smash but kept talking about how he was one of the best players
at least Phil has touched a controller
Hexen is fricking shit. Oh cool, DOOM, but it takes 30 melee hits to kill a single enemy, walls randomly flip around and kill you, and it's just tedious garbage. Wow. Great taste in games. No wonder his console is going out of business.
would be cool. i'd like to see more of this swole lad leader of cultists. you know that when he's done casting spells, he's casting FISTS directly into your face. bro did not skip arm day.
ive been retrying hexen since release and never finished it
farthest I got was the swamps
hub 2 is the most cryptic of the game, i spent almost half of my whole playtime in it, but i refuse to use a guide because hardcore gamer autism
Its really not that hard of a game. You just need to go into it with the mindset you will check the walls constantly for switches. The levels themselves aren't so long that this becomes too hard at least imo. I was able to beat the game without a guide.
This is probably the best place to ask: Has anyone played Hands of Necromancy? Seems to be directly inspired by Hexen and Heretic. I enjoyed the demo but I didn't want it to get suckered in if the demo is like, 75% of the final game or some shit.
Heretic, best game on Doom Engine. Dropping that Tome of Power on the Hellstaff to clear a room feels incredible and D'Sparil is an excellent boss fight, likely the first great boss in FPS history.
No cause Hexen despite looking great kinda blew. Hexen 2 was way better.
Massively shit opinion. Hexen was a great game.
>you've completed 1/8ths of your shitpost
You know. You're absolutely right. Hexen was gorgeous with some absolutely great ideas and impressive tech, but the combat/moment to moment gameplay was complete ass.
It already leaked that they're doing a Hexen remake
Isn't Hexen an Activision property though? Don't they have to wait here until the buyout is complete?
I'd prefer a Heretic revival but HeXen is cool too.

There was already a Heretic revival, it was called Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.
Hexen 2 is better
>Do you want to see Hexen come back?
only in that call of duty reskin style where you clear a room then it branches out 2 corridors max and both lead you to the same place
lol i read it as "do you ever see it coming back?"
yeah i'm down for he/she/theyxen
>heXen
>he/en
I think they already tell us the pronouns
modern doom is proof people associate older fps games with speed instead of exploration

>nooooo not the hexen shooterinos
he's a poseur and I'm not using fricking EGS
>hexen with glory kills and cooldowns
no thanks
>implying this wouldn't be even better in hexen
Compliments the series even better considering at least one class was entirely melee focused.
>cooldowns
What a weird complaint
zoom zoom zoom
buzzword buzzword buzzword

Every FPS series needs its MetaDoom equivalent.
MetaHexen when?
>mfw realizing Phil wants the acquisition just so he can send the id team on a new Hexen game
uuuuuhh based I think?
>phil wants to make samsara canon
I mean, no. Hexxen has neat gameplay and all but the level design sucks shit.
remember when reggie tried to pretend that he not only played video games, but was a serious smash player? and then it turned out he had never even touched a controller before and was absolute shit at the game?
Phil =/= Reggie
how does skill correlate with how you like or dislike the game?
who said like or dislike? Reggie had blatantly never played smash but kept talking about how he was one of the best players
at least Phil has touched a controller
hellraid literally never ever
i was going to pirate it and pretend it was nu-hexen

the classes and weapons are cool but yeah the enemies are annoying and the maps suck dick, i prefer playing Walpurgis on Doom maps
What the FRICK is an Hexen???
A FPS made with the Doom engine, but you spend 90% of the time on a switch hunt to progress. It's a pain in the ass without a guide.
would be cool. i'd like to see more of this swole lad leader of cultists. you know that when he's done casting spells, he's casting FISTS directly into your face. bro did not skip arm day.
i hope they free raven from call of doody if the buyout happens
i beat hexen just yesterday because of that shirt and im on hub 2 of the dkodc expansion
ive been retrying hexen since release and never finished it
farthest I got was the swamps

the hexen games give me motion sickness. they're the only ones

Hexen or Heretic?
Heretic if you like Doom, Hexen if you like running around looking for switches
>one out of one-hundred-twenty-eighth of the puzzle has been found!
Heretic with Hexen's weapons
Heretic plays it safer but imo is the better game. Hexen feels like it had more soul put into it though.
Heretic, best game on Doom Engine. Dropping that Tome of Power on the Hellstaff to clear a room feels incredible and D'Sparil is an excellent boss fight, likely the first great boss in FPS history.
I'm playing Hexen first time right now. I've just made it to the second hub area.
