The designs are actually by Jess Goodwin, who designed most of early 40k originally. Assisting him was Phil Kelly who designed most of 40k aesthetics in 3rd edition days
I'm convinced the guys started to take hard drugs somewhere between late 4th and 7th, because nuhammer legitimately looks and feels like it's been made by a junkie with completely rotten brain and stunted faculties.
they didnt lose their touch. These models are awesome but new things have a tendency of getting seen as bad things. 15 years from now people will call them kino and SOVL.
I have been coming to this board for about 15 years. this shit always plays out this way.
Nah, I've seen most give credit where it's due, like the GSC line, Kommando kill team and BT castellan to name a few. The general consensus appreciated them, and I agree: soul can be made today, but there is a noticeable "round and noblebright" lame trend going on.
>I have been coming to this board for about 15 years. this shit always plays out this way.
I've been here since before the board was a board, and it literally never plays out this way. At best, things universally shat on gets slightly less shat on because nostalgia-goggled morons have filtered in over time. 4e D&D was released just 15 years ago and it's still widely reviled with the exception of a small cadre of hardcore autists, for example. WFRP3 was released just about 13 or 14 years ago, and it's still shit.
…anon, they were talking about fricking symbols. I dont think there is a whole bunch of contrarianism behind saying they are well designed or not. I dont know dick about this system and dont have feelings either way, but I can agree froma sear design language perspective the faction symbols are kind of samy and bland.

I think the issue is that they use too much same design language, therefore coming up as lame. Too many things take cues from the same "high imperial tech" feel that several new necromunda gangs, primaris marines and arguably tau take. This makes them quite boring, as the rest of is just a starcraft dwarf.
Its the uninspiration issue that they had with original squats, its very difficult to make just space dwarfs and make them unique.
I think on top of the lack of inspiration it's even harder now than back in the day. I don't know exavtly what every faction was like then, but now pretty much every typical dwarf trait is already taken by another faction, sometimes several factions.
Mining? GSC
Runes? Space wolves
Artisanry? Several space marine chapters
Industry? Mechanicus
High tech? Also somewhat mechanicus and the Tau
You could make the most dwarfey dwarves to have ever dwarfed in space, but it'll step on the toes of other factions. This probably was always part of the problem but now there's some more factions and faction identities have had more time to get entrenched, so the need to make factions unique is even greater, while there's also less room to do so.
How much longer do you think it'll be before we can spin up a roll-a-League table? You think there's anything important missing, that it'd be better to wait for the codex, or that we could get started now?
>Kronus? Like the Dark Crusade planet?
Like the figue from greek myth. They probably forgot or didn't care that a third party already used it for something else.
This is definitely not something I'm liking. I was really hoping it'd be a follow up on the Demiurge Brotherhoods, but with Squat Corporations instead. Now, I'm not sure what I see. I was hoping for the New Conglomerate from Planetside 2.
I'd go with the Kronus Hegemony because they fit what I had envisioned. "WAR FOR OIL", in kind of 21st century looking NASA shit as a follow up to the the Imperiums WW1 looking shit
It's honestly fine. Yeah it's not great and they should really focus on existing factions rather than cram something nobody wanted but it's not the shitpile you guys are making it out to be.
I think they'd look ok if you went full NASA-core with them. Almost completely white with a few touches of colour for insignia and maybe some piping. Greenstuff the visor smooth and paint it with the most reflective gold you can get your mitts on. The range has that kind of aesthetic, but I think it would have been better if they'd leant into it a bit harder.
Yeah that's exactly what it should have looked like honestly. The moon rover atv made it click for me but then going back to the infantry I could see they didn't go far enough. NASApunk squats are as close to a perfect aesthetic as we're gonna get, only GW missed the mark by a couple inches
I kinda like those 1980s scifi anime looking faction symbols honestly. I can't quite find a good image off google, but you know those scenes where the camera will pan out from the protagonists in their spaceship/mecha/tank/bike to reveal the whole boxy-looking machine that's covered in random but aesthtically coherent greebles, jap runes, numbers and latin alphabet letters? That's what these remind me off
These faction symbols suck dick
The trans alliance
Not just regular trans
HYPER TRANS!
god these frickers are the most boring things ever designed.
The designs are actually by Jess Goodwin, who designed most of early 40k originally. Assisting him was Phil Kelly who designed most of 40k aesthetics in 3rd edition days
I guess they've lost their touch
Good artist won't save shit if the board is meddlesome. And votann looks like a chopjob for that reason.
I'm convinced the guys started to take hard drugs somewhere between late 4th and 7th, because nuhammer legitimately looks and feels like it's been made by a junkie with completely rotten brain and stunted faculties.
>Jess Goodwin
I literally do not believe you.

GW brought him back to design Leagues of Votann aesthetics/lore while Phil Kelly did gameplay.

The squats fit in, but they don't stand out
>Phil Kelly
Explains a lot
Where's the Confederacy?
How much longer do you think it'll be before we can spin up a roll-a-League table? You think there's anything important missing, that it'd be better to wait for the codex, or that we could get started now?
Hyper troony Allies
the league of augsburg
that's one thoroughly inbred horse
And his mount ain't lookin' too good neither.
Nice!
>trans-hyperian alliance
that's the colorscheme I use for my skaven in AoS
>kronus hegemony
Kronus? Like the Dark Crusade planet?
>Kronus? Like the Dark Crusade planet?
Like the figue from greek myth. They probably forgot or didn't care that a third party already used it for something else.
Is there any actual difference between the different ones in terms of gameplay?
The urine shitter regulars sound cool

Holy shit, FRICK OFF REDSHIRT!!!! Why work for a company that pushes these overpriced mediocre models?
My custom league, still need a name.
They separate themselves from the rest of the Votann because their models are boring shit that are too expensive.
>My custom league
as always, this is the correct answer.
It's honestly fine. Yeah it's not great and they should really focus on existing factions rather than cram something nobody wanted but it's not the shitpile you guys are making it out to be.
I've abandoned gw and don't plan on going back, but I like these sub faction symbols. Sort of rugged space corporate logos
ALL I WANTED WAS BROWN PANTS homie WHAT THE FRICK
HOW DID YOU FRICK THAT UP?
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PLAY WITHOUT MY KICK ASS BROWN PANTS?
>without brown pants
friend, you do know you can paint them how you want, right?
Parvos Granum Sisters
Am I the only one who gets big Japan/China vibes from the first two logos?
Ymyr looks best. Even though their logo looks very necron.
Words cannot describe how absolutely soulless the design of the nusquats are, from the general aesthetic to those shitty logos.
Ymyr looks coller, but not as cool as the biker dwarfs we were suposed to have instead of those starcraft manlets
The League of Cambrai
I see your cambrai and raise you a Corinthian league
>Fights Chaos
That isn't even a specialization, everyone fights Chaos. Even Chaos!
I CHOOSE THE POKEMON LEAGUE!
I think they'd look ok if you went full NASA-core with them. Almost completely white with a few touches of colour for insignia and maybe some piping. I'm impressed anon. Makes them look far better. No fixing those big exo suit things though. They just look shit
GW doesnt like helmets anymore for some reason
Ymyr, because the name reminds me of Yrimir. I'm still sad that he never finished the summoner series.
Hard choice between the orange, red or green ones
how about YOU pick up your shit and go back to your general instead?
>general
Ew, a Redditor.
>No blue guys
I'll make my own blue team.
>The trans
They're not even hiding it now are they
The USR look like 1990s FPS protagonists so I'm picking them.
I kinda like those 1980s scifi anime looking faction symbols honestly. I agree. I like future rugged space corporate logos
yeah, they're a nice mix of that and more western sci-fi corporate logos, like Weyland-Yutani and omni-consumer-products
I wish they had leaned even more heavily into the faceless megacorp aesthetic.
