The controversy over her Prime redesign can be ignored, since they actually gave her a real personality beyond being a femme fatale. Reminds me of the Team Dark cutscenes in Heroes, where she's less of a sexy villainess and more like a tard wrangler.
Rouge started off in SA2 as a very basic Bond girl type, a double agent who could still see the greater good even if she was aligned with evil.
In Heroes, she helps break up Omega and Shadow's fight but afterwards takes a backseat for "muh memory" bullshit, still a badass though.
In 06 and especially the Sonic X series is where she kind of just became an exposition device, talking to move the plot forward and being eye candy without any real substance.
You could definitely make an argument that her current character mirrors what happened to Tawna Bandicoot, but I think in this case it actually makes sense for her to be a girlboss.
Plus she still hot and fricks around with Knuckles, even if it's a lot more subtle now.

Rouge started off in SA2 as a very basic Bond girl type, a double agent who could still see the greater good even if she was aligned with evil.
In Heroes, she helps break up Omega and Shadow's fight but afterwards takes a backseat for "muh memory" bullshit, still a badass though.
In 06 and especially the Sonic X series is where she kind of just became an exposition device, talking to move the plot forward and being eye candy without any real substance.
You could definitely make an argument that her current character mirrors what happened to Tawna Bandicoot, but I think in this case it actually makes sense for her to be a girlboss.
Plus she still hot and fricks around with Knuckles, even if it's a lot more subtle now.
