ubisoft saw the amazing sales of mgs2 and wanted a piece of that pie, thats why splinter cell copies a lot of stuff from metal gear
>MGS2 comes out in 2001 sells a lot >splinter cell comes in 2002 >then splinter cell gets a sequel whitout anything to copy from metal gear and its shit
>mgs3 gets a new game with open maps with multiple objectives and focus on hand to hand combat using a knife >splinter cell chaos theory comes out with focus on a knife and more open maps >they make a 4th game whitout stuff to copy from metal gear and its shit
>MGS4 comes out with lots of npc's on the same map and a huge focus on real guns >splinter cell conviction comes out with more open maps that has a shit ton of npcs on it and a HUGE focus on guns
>MGS PW comes out. it has you researching your own weapons, having to send other agents to do missions and base building and coop >Splinter cell blacklist comes out and it has you sending that black agent to do missions, coop, and you researching your own weapons and base building
Imagine being The guard in that scene and having to be all like "damn, Fisher, where did ya go, all invisible and shit with your body in the shadows. I totaly cannot see you right there over me with a giant bulb of light behind you. when all he really wants to do is shoot the fricking guy right in the balls. Like seriously. Imagine having to be that Soldier and not only have to ignore the guy in plain fricking sight right in front of you, the favorable lighting barely concealing the 3 green lights he carries around his head, because they're not the ones who have to walk pass there and watch the fricking elephant in the room jump from 9f onto the ground making the largest sound in the world and you have to act like you didnt noticed it. while he just sits there, load after load, until he perfected the take down. Not only having to tolerate the fricking audacity of hiding in plain fricking sight but his haughty attitude as everyone on here tells you that "DANM THATS THE BEST STEALTH GAME EVER MADE. WHERE DID FISHER GO? IS HE A GHOST OR SOMETHING??". You trained your entire life in the best boot camps in russia and was survived war zones that were considered suicide missions your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the boonies in Afeganistam. You've never even seen anything this fricking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the sweat thats breaking out on his fricking balls while he just hangs in there waiting for you to pass, smugly assured that you are oblivious to the king of stealth(for that is what he calls himself), the stealth he worked so hard breaking every single light bulb in the previous room. And then the player reloads again, and you know you could kill the fricker before he even finishes climbing the wall but you sit there and endure it, cause you're a fricking Professional. You not going to lose your future main character status in a generic FPS game over this. Just bare it. Hide your face and bare it
Metal Gear.
Nothing is as "serious-hilarious", kino-inspired, and flabbergasting as Metal Gear Solid 3.
I haven't gotten to Splinter Cell yet, but there's no way it can surpass MGS3.
The gameplay is fun too.
Double Agent is completely different on 5th and 6th gen systems, right?
But should I still play the PC version AND older gen Xbox version?
I've heard older gen Double Agent is better.
6th and 7th, but yeah, OGbox ver is a true sequel to Chaos Theory, it was made by Ubisoft Montreal, while the 7th gen ver was developed by Ubi Shanghai, the studio that made Pandora Tomorrow
I've already said my piece about this, but nobody is capable of engaging with it because MGS3 is supposed to be the popular bing bing (!) so you're not allowed to actually try to critically look at the game and suggest it's stealth gameplay is not only the best (and only good one) in its series...but also the best in the stealth genre. It doesn't help that people are moronic and come at all these things with a host of preconceptions, and for whatever moronic reason "good stealth" is associated with "having a lot of useless options" and I'd argue MGS3 does that the least of most stealth games and even within its own series.
So, whenever these threads happen, I'm just hoping and waiting finally for a smart anon who can engage with me and tell me why I feel the way I do about MGS3 when I hate all the other MGS games, and hate stealth games in general. Some moron with 2 braincells will try to employ that brilliant ape logic and say "it's because it's barely stealth!" which is moronic since I should like all metal gear solid games for that reason then.
Anyway yeah, I don't want to waste any more effort explaining myself until I'm convinced somebody can engage because every other thread I have has either gotten no responses, or shallow responses.
Compulsively changing camo every time your camo index drops is similar in spirit to constantly quicksaving in other games. It makes things too easy and you're cheating yourself out of good gameplay by doing it. MGS3 is much more enjoyable if you only change camo when you enter a new zone, and play intelligently to make the most of its strengths.
oh yeah for sure, because Sam's dozens of self indulgent useless contexual moves aren't tedious and unnatural as frick. At the end of the day, that's not even relevant to the point. The camo mechanic is probably better and more substantive for being a focused and overarching mechanic that isn't the option bloat Chaos Theory is.
Kojima and his moronic fanboys actually think the camo, stamina, and injury systems in MGS3 were revolutionary when they were nothing but tedious menu crawling.
I don't know if he became more interesting as the series progressed, but I remember feeling some disappointment with Sam Fisher as a protagonist in the first game. MGS has singular Solid Snake along with a range of colourful supporting characters, whereas Fisher was just bland American Spec Ops Man #1043.
Sam feels like an actual human, instead of repeating things in the form of questions, grunting, and being a mouthpiece for Kojimbo's pseudo-intellectualism.
He seemed more like a robot who unquestioningly followed his orders. A Tom Clancy Team American who believes in a black-and-white, us-and-the-terrorists world. Snake might spout some pretentious crap at times, but at least he is willing to think outside the box.
If you want more focus on actual stealth, then splinter cell. If you want wacky fun shit from before kojima went full hack with his norman reedus shit, then MGS. They can't be compared, they're completely different aside from having a super secret agent main character.
>They can't be compared, they're completely different
I hate when people say shit like this, because it's so reductive and moronic and reflective of the fact that they've never actually thought about anything indepth beyond the surface level. The bridge sequence in the beginning of MSG3 can easily be compared to the electric torture encounter or whatever in Chaos theory
>they're not COMPLETELY different, cause this one part of one game is similar to this one part of the other
For the love of god, return whence you came, you little alien narwhal loving homosexual.
>this post conveniently ignores and leaves out that the thread is about MGS3 because all his criticisms of MGS2 don't apply AS much to MGS3 and he knows that MGS3 is a game with more UNIQUE stealth mechanics than Chaos Theory and level encounters (like the masterfully designed bridge) that dumpster Chaos Theory
I don't even know what the point of the other responses are to this dudes post. He lost the moment he chose MGS2 instead of 3. MGS has only 1 good game, and it's 3.
MGS3 is too silly and cringe whereas Chaos Theory takes itself too seriously and is boring.
At least some of the quirky stuff pay off in MGS3 and the pacing is really good (has the right amount of action segments and calm sections it switches between). I would go with MGS3.
splinter cell would not exist whitout metal gear
ubisoft saw the amazing sales of mgs2 and wanted a piece of that pie, thats why splinter cell copies a lot of stuff from metal gear

good post but doesn’t really answer the question, is CT better than MGS3?

what if sam farted when the guard walked under him haha just kidding
Splinter Cell.
Kojombo is a failed wannabe hollywood director that didn't even make it into Japanese cinema.
Checked and kek'd
History lesson aside, I still think Chaos Theory alone is better than MGS3, but the rest of the good MGS games crush the rest of the good SpmC games
>Pandora Tomorrow
>shit
You're just wrong
fippy, god i love autism
Honestly? Both.
They both have their merits.
Why not both?
Metal Gear.

Ok, thanks for clarifying.
>mgs2
Bla bla fricking bla and endless cutscenes
>splinter cell chaos theory
Kino gameplay.
I forgot to mention: I love jenkem. I huff jenkem every day, multiple times a day, and my dick is also really small and looks weird

Yeah, because opening the menu every 15 seconds to switch your camo was so intuitive
Compulsively changing camo every time your camo index drops is similar in spirit to constantly quicksaving in other games. It makes things too easy and you're cheating yourself out of good gameplay by doing it. I like Sam's voice better and the colorful characters (supporting cast) offered a negative experience on how annoying they are.
>whereas Fisher was just bland American Spec Ops
Sam feels like an actual human, instead of repeating things in the form of questions, grunting, and being a mouthpiece for Kojimbo's pseudo-intellectualism.
He seemed more like a robot who unquestioningly followed his orders. A Tom Clancy Team American who believes in a black-and-white, us-and-the-terrorists world. Snake might spout some pretentious crap at times, but at least he is willing to think outside the box.
movie vs game comparison
Splinter Cell. There is nothing good about Black Nig Poop Pee. Japs rip off everything.
Chaos Theory. Far better pacing.
If you want more focus on actual stealth, then splinter cell. If you want wacky fun shit from before kojima went full hack with his norman reedus shit, then MGS. They can't be compared, they're completely different aside from having a super secret agent main character.

which fricking version of this and 2 is better? original? substancesistence?
>kino the videogame or splinter cell
Why'd you say Splinter Cell twice?
If SC was as good as MGS then it would be celebrated as much, it's a nice little game but it's just not MGS tier.
>it's just not MGS tier.
You're right, SC is actually good.
MGS is god tier, SC is a decent game is what I mean. That's why I said "if it was as good" ESL friend.
ESLs (low IQ) love MGS though.
High IQ white men with an eye for art love MGS.
>it's another 'zoomy contrarian tries to act like MGS isn't good' post
>4cuck poster going for a minute without bringing up zoomers challenge: impossible

both. chaos theory is an actual stealth game where as mgs3 is more an action game with stealth mechanics. play both
play both, both are fun in their own way
i like both
hitman absolution or splinter cell conviction?
MGS3 is too silly and cringe whereas Chaos Theory takes itself too seriously and is boring.
At least some of the quirky stuff pay off in MGS3 and the pacing is really good (has the right amount of action segments and calm sections it switches between). I would go with MGS3.
Chaos Theory is the best stealth game of all time. MGS3 has constant stop and start gameplay.
