Staraptor is his ace, yes, but Geeta got pissy and said "No, use a different type", and likely recommended another ace along with it. Seems he at least liked it and Altaria enough to keep it for a mixed team post-DLC.
Also no, Staraptor has the Normal tera-type, he doesn't change his tera type even in post-base game. No idea where you got that from.

Altaria made sense though. More than likely the first dragon you’re going to encounter in the game; it filters electric spammers with its typing, and both those + rock types with earthquake. It sweeps through underprepared kids with dragon dance, but if you explored around with surf you would be rewarded by ice beam in time for this fight. Winona’s Altaria is just good boss design all around.
Yet it dies in one hit to a Blaziken you've used throughout the game.....

HMs are fine. You're supposed to split them between your team members so you don't have 1 useless Pokemon ladden with HMs. You're going to put Surf on your Water type Special Attacker anyways, so you might as well

My in-game Blaziken has mirror move and i used that move to solo kill everything the dragon and ghost elite four members throw at me

This is a blatant lie, if you only use your starter you should be in your low 30s for this fight.
The fact that you had a Blaziken means you grinded a lot.
I know because I only used my starter as a kid and when you fight Kyogre/Groudon you should be at most lv 40 with them being 45 and he Winona fight is way earlier.
Similar experience in Emerald. If you only fight mandatory trainers with your starter, you stay pretty close to the gym leader's levels.

Beating wild Pokemon multiple times is grinding however
I have beaten sapphire more than 30 times you definitely grinded if you have a lv 50 mon vs Winona.
Did you also go through and beat every trainer in every instance of the Trick House or something?

Both stabs are resisted anon, her Blaziken is probably the worst choice and the fact that she has a Blaziken at all means she grinded a ton. Anything is trivial if you overlevel.

What about Mega Pidgeot?
It's got a good concept but absolutely no movepool to abuse it, so it ends up extremely predictable as a Hurricane or Heat Wave spammer because those are the ONLY worthy moves that take advantage of its guaranteed hits and boosted special attack stat.

Holy shit none of them use talonflame, do they? That shit shut down the speed boost blaziken everyone and their mom used when X and Y came out. What a bunch of morons.
Talonflame didn't exist for most of them and was nerfed into the dirt by the time Kahili and Larry were around.

Probably the best Pokemon on the list. It's bulky, has Dragon Dance, and comes in before you have access to Ice/Dragon type Pokemon or moves meaning it's effectively only weak to Rock at that point. Oh, and it has Earthquake in its movepool and will outspeed any Rock type you could possibly have by that point.
The others are dogshit, sure.
Most good Flying types are legendaries as most birdmons are usually mid.
Hey, Flamigo makes sense for Larry since it's literally just a normal animal they called a pokemon
