yeah im with you, except for 3
I love 1, 2 and 4 but 3 is just a little bit inferior. Something is missing. It's still good but I'm glad 4 did an about face and went back to 2's sensibilities instead of continuing down the path that 3 was on.
This is how I'm feeling. To anyone wondering no just because 1 and 3 are lower does NOT mean they're bad or an inferior experience they are absolutely must plays. All of them are.
I have no idea what you could mean by this. I just replayed 1 this week and it is so fricking easy. The only enemy that killed more than 10 of my pikmin was the smokey progg.
but the past is genuinely better
1 has some jank but it has the decency to not overtutorialize or wage a war against me making mistakes, with some decent difficulty and balance to boot
way better story and music too
>all those people putting 2 last
The absolute state of contrarianism of this board. I remember lurking the rare occasional Pikmin threads way before the Pikmin 4 reveal and 2 was almost unanimously first, except for a few exceptions from people who had really good arguments and not just "waaah caves are ugly".
Zoomers are unbelievably bad and criticizing things probably because they're immature and grew up around hyberbolic youtube tards, and with the number of Zoomers turning 18 and being curious about "funny greentext site" being higher and higher it's only going to get worse. It's probably a big factor to why so many of the criticisms are incredibly dumb, again barring the reasonable ones like disliking the random generation.
What I find amazing is how suddenly people place 1 at the top when it's filled with game breaking bugs and is extremely short. And contrary to 3 there is not an engaging challenge mode.
I can understand prefering 3 over 2 or 2 over 3. But anyone pretending 1 is better than either probably didn't actually play any game in the series and is just acting like a parrot.
What arguments do you want besides "caves ugly"? I mean, caves ugly, that's one thing, but additionally, caves not fun and not conducive to the time management gameplay the first game was known for. I could stomach caves if they were maybe 20% of Pikmin 2, but they're more like 80%. That's a reasonable Pikmin 2 criticism.
And hey, a thread I hunted down concerning 2 criticism:
https://arch.b4k.co/v/thread/524753891/#524758550
2 has ALWAYS been a divisive game, even the developers discuss it in the recent 4 interview.
Youtube really polluted some minds.
Far before the Pikmin Youtuber zeitgeist, I played all Pikmin games, and 2 is the only one I couldn't finish my first time around. This had to be 2013~ or so, right by 3's release. I just could not stomach the cave gameplay for long periods of time, something which couldn't be said about 1, which is a game I tend to finish in a single sitting and thoroughly enjoy each time around. >game breaking bugs
There's not a single game breaking bug in Pikmin 1. The crush glitch is annoying but it absolutely isn't "game breaking" and it can be avoided if you're cognizant of it (and it occurs less frequently on its rereleases, something you should already be playing). Pikmin being unable to easily cross bridges or getting distracted by nectar patches isn't a bug, it's moreso a (questionable) quirk of the programming of the Pikmin in the game, and again is something that can be dealt with. You have a few out of bounds glitches but you're not going to be using those unless you're speedrunning. >extremely short
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this and I would like to see you argue why that's a bad thing. Normalize video games being short, concise, compact experiences. >And contrary to 3 there is not an engaging challenge mode.
Fair...but 3's mission mode is honestly the only thing going for it, its campaign is comparatively mind numbing.
A real Youtuber parrot would likely think 4 > 3 > 1 > 2 with all the hubbub going around.
Counterpoint, I like the caves as a shake-up to Pikmin's resources and pacing. In the overworld, time is limited but Pikmin are nearly unlimited since more can be farmed. In caves, time is unlimited but Pikmin are a precious resource you can't expend. >There's not a single game breaking bug in Pikmin 1
That's an outright lie and you know it, Pikmin 1 Pikmin love doing moronic shit like falling through the floor in Forest navel or killing themselves off of water bridges
>Pikmin are a precious resource you can't expend. With the exception of Bulbmin and Queen Candypop Buds, which tend to be likelier than one would think.
And, the thing is, the time is sort of the glue that holds Pikmin together. The act of throwing Pikmin at enemies and carrying objects is simple. But it's the matter of how you plan around these tasks. When you strip the game of it you're left with a mediocre (in my opinion) dungeon crawler that's just tedious because it retains these elements that exist solely to be a timesink in a context where time does not matter. For example, why are breakable walls in caves even a thing when their only use is to be a time sink? Why should you still have to wait for Pikmin to transport stuff?
Not to mention how the game encourages you to play safe with how punishing it can be to bring big squads around when on recon. Caves just become these sluggish, plodding experiences.
4's caves are an improvement by still having time pass, albeit slowly, so you're still encouraged to be as quick as possible in caves to get the most out of your day, though once a subfloor is fully wrapped up you still have to wait around for all the Pikmin to carry shit. I still don't like how they break the flow of the main overworld gameplay, though. (1 is the only game in the series without caves or loading zones between sections in areas!)
What about the libra glitch
>There's not a single game breaking bug in Pikmin 1.
>There is a rather notorious glitch involving the Libra. The part may bounce and fall into the abyss when pulled from the ledge it is positioned on. It may not reappear in any way on the file, though sometimes it may reappear in a random location.
This is the only one that can be argued to be "game breaking" and even in the incredibly rare case it does happen you can just reset the day. Never had it happen in any of my playthroughs. It's a bit of an exaggeration to blow up one remediable bug into 1 being this terribly programmed trash heap.
>There's not a single game breaking bug in Pikmin 1.

Why do Pikmin games not all have NG+ modes? It's such a perfect game for it, especially with all the upgrades you end up getting toward the very end. Being able to start over with all items and abilities and all onions and just blast through the game would be so fun.
check these out
pikhacker.github.io
and theres a "true spice" mod for 3 as well.
>You get different dialogue if you talk to them while controlling Oatchi
I love how much effort they put into this game. I was already impressed Collin's dialogue changes depending on if you encounter the leafing or Olimar first. A breath of fresh air after completing tears of the kingdom.
I'm gonna play the multiplayer mod of 2 with my bro so we can play as Louie and Olimar. gonna be kino.
I just finished Olimar's story mode on the final day because I fricked around at the beginning whew...but now that I think about it what even happens if you don't get all the ship parts in time? The end result is still the same...
the one in 4, right? how was it? I haven't gotten there yet. I was wondering how it will be. I just recently was having fun plating Olimars Shipwreck in 3 dlx.
>the one in 4, right? how was it? I haven't gotten there yet. I was wondering how it will be. I just recently was having fun plating Olimars Shipwreck in 3 dlx.
nayrt but I really enjoyed it, it's only 15 days so you're kept on your toes a little more and it's fun to try and optimize, and they're really clever with new enemy and onion placement so it feels distinctive from the campaign despite using the same maps.
Disappointingly a lot of the ship parts are duplicated for some reason, but you still get that nice visual feedback of the Dolphin looking nicer with each piece you put together.
>the one in 4, right? how was it?
Yeah it was pretty fun felt like Pikmin 1 but with Pikmin 4's flavor and a more strict time limit. I can see myself playing it again in the future to try and get a better time and I was surprised there was more content to come afterwards from beating it. If Pikmin 2 is my king then Pikmin 4 is my queen.
oh yeah I gotcha. guess I can work on Olimars thing and do all that now.
okay so I did the first area of Olimars Tale, got 11 days left. that was fun, it does seem similar to the Olimar mode. I didn't see any metals so I assume you just 100% everything.
Olimar is a smart man, I hope he eventually realizes how much of a piece of shit poorly managed company Hoctotate Freight is and strikes out on his own.
Is it worth it to finish Louie's questline? Not sure if I want to sit through an hour of loading screens and simple fetch quests for that tiny little bonus.
This would be great if doing it allowed you to have it automatically from the start of a new game, or for use in the Olimar mode. It might help with getting Platinum on the Sage trials at least which is the only thing I have left to do other than Louie’s quests.

I don’t rewind and in fact I’ve never used it, I just suck it up and accept that my Pikmin died and try not to repeat a mistake
I'm in the middle. I only rewind when I feel like the game was being utter bullshit, like when I charge and miss a fidgety hitbox by a few pixels and it makes Oatchi and all the pikmin scatter and then start automatically auto-attacking the now-invulnerable enemy which proceeds to wipe out half of them while I'm desperately trying to call them back and get on Oatchi (since you can't ride him unless he's idle and he's hard to get to stop attacking once he starts).
Yeah I treat it like savescumming in 2, if the ice pikmin decide to carry off an enemy instead of freezing the water so everyone gets killed by the mud slug I say 'frick it' and reload, but playing through the final cave without resetting or leaving to get more guys out of the onion made it a really fun challenge by the time I got to the final boss with a much smaller army.
It would be nice if the game didn't constantly b***h at you to use it >"OH NO SO MANY PIKMIN LOST, IF ONLY WE COULD REWIND TIME" >YOU LOST PIKMIN AT SUNSET, YOU SHOULD REWIND >etc
I lost pikmin at sunset one time because I didn't realize those little shits will automatically go back to those spicy berry plants even if the plants don't have berries on them. They literally just sit under the flower trying to spawn camp the berries. By the time I figured out what happened it was too late to collect them, but I just sucked it up and took the loss even though that cutscene of them being left behind and eaten is heart-wrenching. In the end it was my fault so I couldn't justify rewinding, but I never made that mistake again.
Nope, other than renting Pikmin 1 when I was like 10 and getting filtered after just a couple hours, Pikmin 4 is my first real Pikmin experience in earnest.
Why do Pikmin games not all have NG+ modes? It's such a perfect game for it, especially with all the upgrades you end up getting toward the very end. Being able to start over with all items and abilities and all onions and just blast through the game would be so fun.
Pikmin 1 has a lot of jank that will cuck you the first time so it feels pretty hefty.
I wonder if anyone ever imported the maps into 2 because I guarantee it would be so much easier to play.
Pikmin 3 is the shortest in the franchise because it’s as long as Pikmin 1 with none the jank that will kill you.
Oatchi having to fricking drown once before he can swim in the least amount of days possible is the most fricking moronic thing about this game. It’s some early gamecube shit.
Serene Shores without doggy paddle level 3 to get the early watermelon fricks with me too much that I can’t continue the 1 day run without it. God damn it’s the only legit gripe I have with the game.
what the frick are you talking about? he unlocks the swim ability after you get past a certain point, not after you drown him. I never touched water once with him prior to unlocking swim cause i knew you didnt start with it.
cope harder moron
He learns the ability faster if he drowns once.
By the point he gets it naturally I’m fricked out of optimal Serene Shores.
Not him but like 3 or 4.
I'm going to do some testing tonight and answer the question of Oatchi's swimming unlock day once and for all. I'll report back once I've done it, but it'll be in like 8-10 hours from now.
He learns the ability faster if he drowns once.
By the point he gets it naturally I’m fricked out of optimal Serene Shores.

I just got off work, time to test.
Godspeed
Okay, test results are in!
A couple quick notes: Day 1 is the tutorial day. The first day you get to explore Sun-Speckled Terrace is Day 2 and Oatchi is small.
First test was a control. I started a game, got to the exploration, then immediately ended the day repeatedly until I got up to Day 4. Oatchi never gets big and of course never learns to swim. Oatchi growing big is definitely tied to progress.
For the next 2 tests I followed the following outline for progress:
Day 2: 2 astronauts rescued from the first 2 dungeons, all 3 bases unlocked, and 1330 Sparklium collected.
Day 3 and after: End the day the moment it begins, no additional progress.
Second test was drowning Oatchi. I drowned him when he was small on Day 2 and made the standard progress. On the morning of Day 3 he grew big and at the start of exploration he learned Jump, but NOT swimming. I ended the say immediately and at the start of exploration on Day 4 he learned to swim.
Third test was NOT drowning Oatchi. I made sure Oatchi never touched the water and made the standard progress on Day 2. The morning of Day 3 he grew bigger and at the start of exploration he learned to jump. I ended the day immediately and at the start of exploration on Day 4 he DID NOT learn to swim. I kept starting and ending exploration all the way up through Day 7 and with no drowning and no additional progress he NEVER learned to swim.
I don't care to bother testing exactly how much progress is needed to make Oatchi swim without drowning, but he ABSOLUTELY DOES learn to swim immediately if you drown him. The only catch is that he can't seem to learn Jump and Swim on the same day so the earliest he can swim is Day 4 if you drown him.
Fun extra bit: On the third test I accidentally let Oatchi get burned and on the morning of Day 3 when the lab was open for the first time Scorch Guard was immediately available. On the tests where Oatchi didn't get burned, Scorch Guard was NOT available. So there are apparently a number of different things that can unlock early based on you falling victim to negative outcomes. If you want all the Guards as early as possible you just have to inflict Oatchi with the appropriate elemental effect and you'll get the corresponding Guard item available in the Lab the next day regardless of Sparklium progress.
Yup, that's the lesson. Run him through fire, drown him in water, ram him into the electric fence... Makes me wonder if letting him take enough damage or die unlocks the HP up items early, too.
Really makes you wonder what the point is of not having him know those abilities for such a tiny part of the game.
I really don't fricking get it, either. It's not like riding Oatchi or swimming even breaks anything. I don't think anything would change about how much progress you can make on Day 2 if Oatchi was already big and could swim, it's just a pointless drip-feed that's made even more stupid by the fact that you get to play with Moss before Oatchi so you literally already know how riding the dog works.
You can't self-diagnose these things for the exact same reasons horoscopes are popular. It's easy to read "occasionally strikingly amoral" and think of the one time in 20 years where you drop kicked a toddler, but an external observer will look at the other 7299 days of your life and say "yeah, there's no pattern of that kind of behavior there."
finished the game a while ago, it's cool, some sections are hard like atemping platium on leaf trial or a few regular dandori challenge, i do think the game would have been better with more enemy focused challenge, the king cavern, the boss rush cave was nice but the fights are too short because oatchi rush, most other caves are completely dull without treasures left, they also should have forced back tracking on previous areas (and removed the 3 type limit, they kinda fricked this one) at least for 100 % the game, would have made the pacing miles better, hopefully the dlc blows
>Huge focus on Blues with deeper water and new water hazards >Hoping for a completely, TRULY submerged cave, where all the sublevels are completely underwater and filled exclusively with aquatic enemies, allowing the ridiculous underwater mobility of Blues to shine in their own little cave >Instead they just recycle the fricking Submerged Castle and make it easier
It seems so fricking obvious how did they frick this up
Then it'd fully expose remnants of classic Pikmin bullshit, namely in part due to the fact no player is going to have swarming available to them until the literal last cave.
I feel like swarming doesn't have much use apart from nectar in 4, since if you swarm an object you won't get more than the minimum grabbing onto it. Charging almost makes it obsolete...?
I think in general the game thinking I'm not aware enough to stop pressing A based on the number of pikmin I want to actually throw at an object is pretty annoying
Swarming is mostly just an evasive maneuver now. Charging stole its spot as an offense tool and Oatchi is basically the best of both worlds + free water immunity.
Dude after trying it several dozen times FINALLY figuring that out was INCREDIBLE. Sage Leaf trials were peak optional difficulty. Because they WERE difficult and the puzzles required mastery of the game's mechanics and understanding of every strategy.
I'm no speedrunner but I'm really enjoying replaying and trying to optimize Shipwreck Tale. Just got it down to eight days, it's going to be HARD getting a single-day finish on any of the locations but I feel like I'm getting close on Hero's Hideaway.
I just beat 1. 1000 pikmin sprouted, 250 deaths. Cool concept for a game but I hope the sequels are more expansive and innovative in ideas.
Distant Garden sucks frick putting 3 big black bulorbs in a row.
Blowhogs are easy to kill and don't kill Pikmin as far as I know so weren't much of an issue for me. For the big bulorbs I used bombs to kill them all so having to pick up bomb rocks and carry them over was tedious. Not much but still 3 in a row felt kaizo especially next to a boss.
Special mention to the flying wasp things that pick up Pikmin and bury them for some of the most annoying enemies in the game. Also I found the final boss quite underwhelming, is that a common sentiment?
>unless you specifically set out to style on him with bomb rocks.
That's what I did, pick up all the bomb rocks around the arena beforehand. Maybe that's why he felt underwhelming if it's not intended
>if it's not intended
Depends. Did you have him eat the bomb-rock Pikmin or did you get the Pikmin to throw the bombs at his tongue?

>Pikmin to throw the bombs at his tongue?
You have to throw them specifically at his tongue? I didn't even realize I just threw them at his face.
[...]
Yeah, I'm assuming it's more difficult in the GC version.
Did they fix that from the Wii version? Getting bomb rocks in his mouth became a lot harder in the wii version since they switched how dropping bombs worked. In the gamecube version, yellows dropped them when you whistled which was kinda annoying but made emperor bulbax a joke. In the wii version you gotta hope the yellow throws it in his mouth which feels like RNG sometimes. Having a yellow with a rock get eaten only stuns the him for like 3 seconds.

Bomb rocks work like Wii which make bombing him way harder. You have to either sac your pikmin or depend on the Yellow's AI throwing it into his mouth. Which sometimes he just fricking stands there and gets eaten. This shit

Yeah, I'm assuming it's more difficult in the GC version.
1 is the smallest by far.
2 is more combat-focused and expands the game (despite having a similar amount of similarly sized zones) by sending you into a dozen multi-floor caves with randomly generated layouts (in the sense that they are built at load-time out of several hand-designed parts specific to each cave and layer).
3 drops the caves in favor of really fleshing out the overworlds and polishing the side mode into a highlight of the series.
4 draws from all of them, basing the main game on 2, baking 3's challenge mode into the main game, and adding a side campaign that's largely a remix of 1.
Why must homosexuals always appropriate other people's characters in support of sodomy even when those characters are completely non-sexual and from sex-free media?
I just got to the ending of the 4 story campaign. Didn't expect for it give me the feels, that last scene was beautiful. and seeing Louie and Moss in the credits made me happy.
Now time to finish the rest of the games content and play the others! :]
The AI is really bad about countering sneak bombs in my experience, so make sure you deploy it and snag the gold that comes out. Otherwise generally prioritize bonuses, especially the Golden Sniffer.
Build your numbers immediately, task all of your pikmin with carrying things back, and send a lone Oatchi to gobble up the biggest thing the opposition is currently carrying to steal it. Keep all enemies in the No Man's Land alive unless they directly impact your delivery routes (or are the bonus item at the moment) because the opposition will either kill it (wasting time) or get impacted by it equally. Power-ups are more valuable than anything else and should be spammed ASAP.
build up your numbers quickly, pay attention to which fruits are 2x points, and don't be afraid to frick with the opponent. In most cases you can throw pikmin onto whatever they're bringing back and outpull them by 1. If you set your pikmin to collect things on their own and focus on offense you'll keep their points suppressed and can win by 100 easy
Because its fun. And casual strategy games where you are a entity in the world instead of a semi-omniscient commander in the sky are rare and often don't have pretty environments to explore.
1 and 4 are certainly better than 2 and 3 but i can't really decide beyond that. the first time experience of 1 is incredible but 4 also has so much more content with most of it very high quality. 2 is good but i don't understand how anyone could put it above 1 or 4 unless it was just the first pikmin game you played
I don't know how you can put 3 on the same level as 4 when that game at least put its actual music in the main campaign inside of sidelining it into a separate mode.
pikmin 1 level select theme is the best song in the series and pikmin 2 replaced it with something inferior. also the focus on caves that are mostly boring and tedious is not offset by the OST being good
Bias. Pikmin 2 has more instrument variety and incredibly unique compositions. Not saying that the level select theme from 1 isn't great, though, or that 1 doesn't have the second best OST in the franchise.
here are the exact fonts used if anyone here is that autistic: https://twitter.com/WafflesMMMM/status/1676906475267162113
i found it interesting that p2 uses the soulless wii-era rodin font like the later games, but it feels like it blends in a lot better so i never really noticed
bernard is always the third leafling to be rescued after finishing a dandori battle, and you need bernard just to access hero's hideaway, so you physically can't skip any dandori battles before saving olimar unless someone finds a freak glitch
when i played it on cemu i just used my controller and the kb+m for all of the gamepad stuff, which was incredibly annoying but i still managed to finish the game anyway. if that bothers you then unfortunately you're better off emulating the switch version

that filename makes me wish you recorded your sirehound attempts with only 8 pikmin lol, very impressive either way. did you use the lightning strat against him?
i don't know what the lightning strat is, but the whole boss took me about 45 minutes including failed attempts so i'm glad i didn't record that. i pretty much just fought it normally, each phase took about 10 cycles because my damage was very low
i haven't tried it yet but apparently you can use lightning at just the right time to stun the sirehound and get a lot more damage on him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOAJI1hR56I
with an actual squad it makes almost every phase a one-cycle, for your run it's probably completely irrelevant but it might've made it slightly less tedious? idk
nta but i grinded up to 100 purples in ec too not knowing that there was a doomsday apparatus-esque treasure in the final area. pikmin 2 chads stay winning B)
Most of them look lame, randomization so I can't Dandori, mostly combat focused which is the lamest part of Pikmin, and no go here. It's hard to go back.
Caves are fun for the extra challenge. 2 is the best for testing your actual skill utilizing your Pikmin on the fly and adapting to the situation. However, they are very anti-Dandori. If the appeal is time management and multitasking, 2 would likely be the worst game. The time system is basically pointless in 2 since the overworld is an afterthought. The only thing it accomplishes is wasting a minute at the start of each day setting up, and at the end of each day rounding up your Pikmin.
3 and 4's focus on "dandori" is shallow. The devs themselves have said that from Pikmin 3 onward, they've wanted to focus more on planning than execution. This is evident in how 4's caves and challenges require very little reaction. They're the same every time, all you need to do is plan out an optimal-enough route between all the treasures and enemies. 2's caves focus more on execution and actual mechanical skill. They're never the same every time, there is no solved route, you have to assess the situation in real time and react accordingly, every time. Singular sublevels of late-game Pikmin 2 caves are harder than entire caves in Pikmin 4.
>The devs themselves have said that from Pikmin 3 onward, they've wanted to focus more on planning than execution
the ironic thing here is that pikmin 1 is still one of the hardest games in the series to play quickly and that you need to execute tons of stupid hard bullshit in the same 13 minute session to complete areas like foh in 1 day. it took years of strategizing and planning from multiple players to come up with all of the p1 1 day routes and they're STILL ridiculously difficult to actually pull off. i don't think any of this was ever intended by nintendo circa y2k, but we already have a pikmin game that demands both good routing and actual mechanical execution, aka real honest-to-god dandori. goddamn it man

I agree with both of you and Pikmin 1 is my favorite. I just appreciate all of them for the different things they try.
how often do I really need to bring white pikmin with me in 2, I'm afraid that I'll always miss a treasure that was hidden underground on some random floor of a cave
Every cave in 2 that requires white pikmin for something either says it has poison in it or has a white candypop bud.
You don't need to bring them anywhere else.
reminds me of olimar's comback in pikmin 3 dx >olimar gets mad at louie and yells at him >louie runs off >olimar beats himself up over losing his temper >louie is just looking for food
>struggling hard with some dandori level >replay it like 10 times before I realize you can move your base to a different part of the level >I didn't pay attention and missed the circle of pink gems every time
frick man. I am too used to the older games for this shit
today I had a resurfaced memory of renting pikmin 2 and falling in love with it then showing it to my dad who cussed me out and called me names and I never played pikmin again
I think the attack nerf is fine since it makes means whites will always have the hardest elemental based enemies because they themselves do less damage. I think it's why poison is used so much in the last area, it makes enemies feel tougher.
I think they need bigger compensation though.
Make them the best at digging again.
Though that makes yellows even far less useful, they're already the worst of the originals by far now. Electricity needs to be instant death again so you don't just yolo electric enemies anymore.
The thing is they were never the best at digging. In pikmin 2 digspeed was based off attack power so reds and purples were the fastest diggers.
Whites have always been mid unless you're ok with casualties.

How does Pikmin get away with it
>e10+
i just realized 3 and 4 are e10+ last month and it's fricking hilarious to me considering how the post-gc games are brighter, cartoonier, friendlier and less disturbing across the board except for a few background details most people won't pay attention to
I always thought Pom was cute and Shepherd's really grown on me after playing through the game
this art screams "i am going to lewd the female characters in this videogame, even though they suck", "pom" doesn't even have a fricking name and shepherd isn't particularly great either. back in my day we played as the infinitely based ORIMA, ROUIE and SACHO and that was that goddamn it
We were beyond robbed that we got an Olimar alt in Smash bros and it's fricking ALPH over Louie or the President. Even Charlie would've been acceptable. We even lost the Chocomar skin for it.
It should've been like Bowser Jr. each costume a new captain.
We have 7 captains now, so maybe for the next one.

Smash brothers is great they just have WEIRD prioirties over what does and doesn't get love and attention >literally nobody plays Bowser Jr. because he sucks and is stupid, get eight models with unique voicelines anyway >Pikmin gets maybe 15 music tracks, one of them is fricking stock cricket and bird sound effect I don't think is even actually used in the games itself, stuff like Forest navel is inexplicably left out

Always struck me as odd. Like they just forgot he exists.

I don't know why all of the Pikmin Captains aren't just koopaling alts but for Olimar. They wouldn't even really need the voicelines part. All of the captains do the same thing anyway, there's no reason why they can't just be all in. If they keep Olimar for the next sm*sh game there would be even less reason to not have Shepherd, Collin or Lisa as alts for him as well. Unless Oatchi + Lisa is what they end up going with as a new character.
Seriously though, why Alph? That's just the most boring pick you could have possibly made. Louie is a fan favorite for obvious reasons, Shacho is fun, and even Brittany and Charlie at least fill some kind of niche. Alph is just a guy who exists.

because hes the most similar in body proportions to Olimar

If they could make each Koopaling fit into the same hurtbox, they could do a Louie costume. It's because Alph is the "main character" from 3.

Alpha didn't feel any more of a main character than the other 2.
Hell the game starts with you playing as Charlie.

I’m just saying that was probably Nintendo’s view since he’s the first captain you get to “keep” and he’s the most vanilla one.

There's certain franchises I really don't think Sakurai gives a shit about and puts them on the lowest priority. What immediately comes to mind is Sonic and Pikmin. Final Fantasy and Metal Gear are starved for content in Smash mostly because of Square and Konami, but Sonic and Pikmin feel like they got into smash on orders from the top and no one on the team was happy about that.
Anonymous
Sakurai probably dislikes Sonic in particular because of the whole "SEGA waited until the literal last minute before deciding to give the OK" debacle back in Brawl, I can't imagine what's up with Pikmin though.

Sakurai is a gay who makes sure his characters always have top billing and always survive in the in game content. Kirby always gets the most cutscenes for example.

Am I the only one who adores Captain Charlie? He’s a good dude, actually has a personality as opposed to Alph, loves his ducky, and has a fun character design.

Alph was supposed to be a clone who would use Rock Pikmin, but that didn't work out for Smash 4 and Sakurai didn't try it again as an echo for Ultimate
Since they're distant relatives of humans do you think a human could knock them up?

Size difference alone it ain't happening, a human sperm would probably be close to the size of a tadpole and a Koppaite/Hocotatian Sperm would never even reach a human egg, let alone have the strength to penetrate the outer membrane all sperm need to do to fertilize.

So what you're saying is that a Koppaite/Hocotatian could fill their pussy with a bunch if human sperm, seal up their pussy, then jerk off while all the human sperm swarm around inside her pussy?

Consider this: the ship shrinks down cargo to fit in the hold, so a human might theoretically be able to exploit this to reach a more feasible size.
I think it's funny how the space people are confused about almost everything they find on earth, except for the combobot. Giant robots are truly universal.
I liked 4 but it rubbed me the wrong way thematically. Everything revolving around the dogs, really soured my experience even though i liked oatchi as a mechanic
I've been playing Pikmin 1 and 2 for the first time through emulator for the past few weeks and I've reached the postgame of 2 where you search for Louie and get the rest of the treasures. I'm enjoying the series a lot so far and I now understand the appeal. One of my favorite moments has to be first encountering the Man-at-Legs boss.
>There's not a single game breaking bug in Pikmin 1 >This is the only one that can be argued to be "game breaking" and even in the incredibly rare case it does happen you can just reset the day. Never had it happen in any of my playthroughs. It's a bit of an exaggeration
you love to see it
no man 1 is like actually buggy
it's my favorite but i remember it happening often in the GC version, a pikmin would start hitting the air after finishing a stickpile or bridge
>tried out pikmin while dolphin was still in development >wasn't a fan of the time limit, dropped >tried out Pikmin 4's demo >Wordsworsxdowrosdworwowowords >decide to give Pikmin 1 another go >time is actually fair and managed to get the two first area's items
Had to reload my game over the water and bomb bullshit, but damn is t fun so far
4's first entire area is a tutorial island and after that it does let you actually play the game. It is by far the longest entry in the series, I'd say twice the length of p1 or p3 at the very least.
That being said there is a lot of (skippable) dialogue due to the nature of constantly rescuing castaways.
There are two thing that they really should've improved on 1, when the pikmin is crossing the bridge and the way to cycle through them.
Besides that the crushing bug is really annoying, I think it's something related with how some enemies would crash and smash your Pikmins, that was fully removed on 2.
The Wii version wiimotes kinda breaks the game too much, I haven't played the Switch version, but I think that they balanced that, even though the swarm is kinda annoying now.
Male Sheargrubs and Shearwigs also turned invincible if they managed to grab a Pikmin, so you couldn't save it. Not sure if that was intentional or not, but it was removed in all later games, including ports.
>tried out pikmin while dolphin was still in development >wasn't a fan of the time limit, dropped >tried out Pikmin 4's demo >Wordsworsxdowrosdworwowowords >decide to give Pikmin 1 another go >time is actually fair and managed to get the two first area's items
Had to reload my game over the water and bomb bullshit, but damn is t fun so far
I loved 4 but the first hour is really fricking grating with all the chatty hand holding
I encourage you to go back and get past that - it doesnt last long
>item magnetism so you can't move the cursor easily especially when it matters >can't throw a bunch of pikmin in an area where there's a bunch of individual items because the game's handholding features are ridiculous and it stops you from throwing more than the minimum required pikmin >no swarming so you can't dodge enemy attacks in a fun way >if you so much as leave an unplucked pikmin for later or leave pikmin idling for a few seconds you'll get nagged by the crewmates as if you are a moron
No I just don't care because the game has no fricking time limit. >enemies don't respawn and there are no enemies that revive >can 100% each location in sequence without needing to visit others >huge enemy variety is irrelevant because dog and pikmin can stomp nearly everything easily >can only take 3 goddamn pikmin types at a time LMAO
What is even the reason for this? Smooth brains can't comprehend so many pikmin types or something? I used to take an equal amount of each pikmin in 2 because you get a cute song.
This game is mediocre as frick. Anybody who has this game in their top two is a moron, or has forgotten the older games.
1>3=2>>>4
I already know I'm going to get a bunch of angry "downvotes" from angry redditors about this opinion, so go ahead reply with some dumb dogshit. Just know that I think you are an idiot and that your "opinion" is irrelevant to me.
I don't hate the game, but I think that we'll never get the same experience as 1 again. It's so sad. The Olimar's story doesn't feel as nice as 1 either, and they didn't even model all of the ship's parts.
>no swarming so you can't dodge enemy attacks in a fun way
You're wrong, but also right because you don't get to use swarming until you've already visited the final cave.
Yeah you know when the game tells you some NPCs will give you items as a reward instead of materials? Well it's only three of them and only available when you 98% finished the game.
While I don't hate the game, I definitely was heavily irritated by these changes. >What is even the reason for this? Smooth brains can't comprehend so many pikmin types or something?
Miyamoto wants Pikmin to find a stable audience. Not sure what it is, but he seems to care about Pikmin as much as he used to care about Mario when he first worked on those games, at least if the Nintendo Directs are anything to go by. I wouldn't be surprised if he refuses to retire until he can get Pikmin an audience at least on par with other semi-large Nintendo IPs. I assume that's also why they made Hey! Pikmin and Pikmin Bloom, since it didn't seem like the majority of Pikmin fans were interested in those games. > 1>3=2>>>4
Personally I'm more on the side of 2>1>4>3, but that's because I have a burning hatred for 3's level and boss design.
For me it's sad to see Nintendo as this husk of its former self.
It honestly feels like Nintendo has spent all their time trying to become Japanese video game Disney instead of focusing on the stuff people originally liked about them. I don't think a single controller or console I've bought from them since 2015 has lasted more than a year without developing broken buttons or other problems.
4 is a 10/10 and itll be easily the best selling Pikmin, and itll be in the GOTY conversation
you love to see it
I genuinely dont know what the pissbabies could have possibly wanted out of a Pikmin game, thats why all the criticisms are all hollow or ephemeral - they are being made in bad faith
These threads bring me an ungodly amount of joy. Reminds me of the NTWEWY launch threads.
The amount of reaction images, memes, and great art you anons have been posting has made my year. All 10 years for this game were worth it. Cheers, PikGAWDS
I just retrieved Olimar from the wall safe. The game's really great with the level of detail put into the different worlds and enemies. Oatchi's much better integrated than I'd thought he'd be too. I wish nighttime missions were harder in line with previous games talking about how dangerous it is at night and I wish there was proper coop or challenges, but otherwise the game's pretty great.
1 > 4 > 3 > 2
I assume we are all in agreement
1 > 4 > 2 = 3
Not to say any of them are bad, they're all fantastic.
1=2=3=4
These games are all my children and asking me to pick one over the others is cruel.
yeah im with you, except for 3
I love 1, 2 and 4 but 3 is just a little bit inferior. Something is missing. It's still good but I'm glad 4 did an about face and went back to 2's sensibilities instead of continuing down the path that 3 was on.
2 = 4 > 1 > 3
That looks more like a Buguette
I used Italian bread as the inspiration actually
it goes 1 > 3 > 4 > 2 actually
Absolutely wrong. The correct tierlist is: 2 = 4 > 1 > 3
Wrong
It is 2 = 4 > 1 = 3
This is how I'm feeling. To anyone wondering no just because 1 and 3 are lower does NOT mean they're bad or an inferior experience they are absolutely must plays. All of them are.
1 > 2 >= 4 > 3
I like them all though.
1>5>4>3>2
go back to your own time period anon
But what does Ganker think of Hey! Pikmin
1 > 3 > 4 > 2
4 would have been the best game if it wasn't filled with full moron and casualized mechanics
Then why is 3 the second best and 2 last
3 is definitely easier than 1 and 2, but it had the decency to not force lock-on or cap your pikmin throws to the amount necessary for a task.
>cap your pikmin throws to the amount necessary for a task.
This has only helped me in Dandori challenges. If I want to use more I just charge them.
I'd rather deal with QoL which makes the game easier in 4 than all the jank that makes 1 artificially difficult.
I have no idea what you could mean by this. I just replayed 1 this week and it is so fricking easy. The only enemy that killed more than 10 of my pikmin was the smokey progg.
4 > 2 => 3 >1
Stop living in the past, please.
but the past is genuinely better
1 has some jank but it has the decency to not overtutorialize or wage a war against me making mistakes, with some decent difficulty and balance to boot
way better story and music too
>wage a war against me making mistakes
Is this how shitters phrase "have any challenge"? lmao
>all those people putting 2 last
The absolute state of contrarianism of this board. I remember lurking the rare occasional Pikmin threads way before the Pikmin 4 reveal and 2 was almost unanimously first, except for a few exceptions from people who had really good arguments and not just "waaah caves are ugly".
All 4 games are great in different ways. I think 2 is just the most polarizing. It's a love it or hate it game.
Youtube really polluted some minds.
Its weird cause, isn't 2 just one but with more shit? I mean they literally share the same overworlds.
This is the only one that can be argued to be "game breaking" and even in the incredibly rare case it does happen you can just reset the day. Never had it happen in any of my playthroughs. It's a bit of an exaggeration to blow up one remediable bug into 1 being this terribly programmed trash heap.
>why are breakable walls in caves even a thing
So Waterwraith or bulbears can jumpscare you why else?
>that sublevel in 2 where a Bulbear just fricking falls from the sky
What about the libra glitch
>There's not a single game breaking bug in Pikmin 1.
>There is a rather notorious glitch involving the Libra. The part may bounce and fall into the abyss when pulled from the ledge it is positioned on. It may not reappear in any way on the file, though sometimes it may reappear in a random location.

Oatchi has that effect on women.
>You get different dialogue if you talk to them while controlling Oatchi
I love how much effort they put into this game. I was already impressed Collin's dialogue changes depending on if you encounter the leafing or Olimar first. A breath of fresh air after completing tears of the kingdom.
Frick I’ve been looking for this image for days, thanks
Does this line actually appear in-game?
yeah. it's for the spicy spray iirc
>you will never get ridden by Shepard in a spicy-spray fueled frickfest that neither of you can control
Why bros?
I'm gonna play the multiplayer mod of 2 with my bro so we can play as Louie and Olimar. gonna be kino.
the one in 4, right?
If Pikmin 2 is my king then Pikmin 4 is my queen.
okay so I did the first area of Olimars Tale, got 11 days left. that was fun, it does seem similar to the Olimar mode. I didn't see any metals so I assume you just 100% everything.
Yeah pretty much
requesting the scene after the final boss where louie is tied up and used sexually by one of the crewmates
Why?
Should've added a part talking about how Louie can blow up stone walls at will
Pikmin Microgames in Warioware!
The real reward is talking to Louie repeatedly after each stage as he fumbles his way through quest-giving.
This would be great if doing it allowed you to have it automatically from the start of a new game, or for use in the Olimar mode. It might help with getting Platinum on the Sage trials at least which is the only thing I have left to do other than Louie’s quests.
you can do a glitch with it on dandori seas and somewhere else maybe
I just finished Olimar's story mode on the final day because I fricked around at the beginning whew...but now that I think about it what even happens if you don't get all the ship parts in time? The end result is still the same...
You get different dialouge, Olimar dies immediately rather than leaving the planet.
Oh. I assume you also don't get told about the hidden cave either?
>me when a bunch of my Pikmin die
I don’t rewind and in fact I’ve never used it, I just suck it up and accept that my Pikmin died and try not to repeat a mistake
most of the time same, I never used it but a few times like when Moss tried to steal my Pikmin right at the end of a day
I'm in the middle.
I rewind if a single pikmin dies unless it is Olimars mode or a side challenge. 0 dead so far.
its no different from closing the game and reloading a save if you frick up short of being more convinient
It would be nice if the game didn't constantly b***h at you to use it
>"OH NO SO MANY PIKMIN LOST, IF ONLY WE COULD REWIND TIME"
>YOU LOST PIKMIN AT SUNSET, YOU SHOULD REWIND
>etc
>OH NO, SO MANY PIKMIN LOST! IF ONLU WE COULD REWIND TIME
Collin calm down, I have over 500 red Pikmin. They knew what they signed up for.
Did you never play Pikmin 3? That's what they do with the plants.
Nope, other than renting Pikmin 1 when I was like 10 and getting filtered after just a couple hours, Pikmin 4 is my first real Pikmin experience in earnest.
I'm so glad they don't go back to where a pile used to be when they finish and instead stop at the ship. Dumbest AI thing from 3 imo.
only time i did this was if a pikmin type i had no onion for got wiped out
Why do Pikmin games not all have NG+ modes? It's such a perfect game for it, especially with all the upgrades you end up getting toward the very end. Being able to start over with all items and abilities and all onions and just blast through the game would be so fun.
Torture Brittany
(lovingly)
do pikmin 1 and 3 have generally bigger overworld areas to compensate for the lack of caves or are they just shorter games?
Pikmin 1 has a lot of jank that will cuck you the first time so it feels pretty hefty.
I wonder if anyone ever imported the maps into 2 because I guarantee it would be so much easier to play.
Pikmin 3 is the shortest in the franchise because it’s as long as Pikmin 1 with none the jank that will kill you.
was he trying to warn him about the egg
>HANK, don't touch that egg! It's a trap! HANK!
JIREN RIDING OATCHI
>I never touched water once with him prior to unlocking swim cause i knew you didnt start with it.
And on what day did swimming unlock for you?
Not him but like 3 or 4.
I'm going to do some testing tonight and answer the question of Oatchi's swimming unlock day once and for all. I'll report back once I've done it, but it'll be in like 8-10 hours from now.
Anon?
I just got off work, time to test.
Godspeed
It'll take a bit, this tutorial is so fricking long each time.
If you want all the Guards as early as possible you just have to inflict Oatchi with the appropriate elemental effect and you'll get the corresponding Guard item available in the Lab the next day regardless of Sparklium progress.
so just abuse the dog right away for maximum benefit
Yup, that's the lesson. Run him through fire, drown him in water, ram him into the electric fence... Makes me wonder if letting him take enough damage or die unlocks the HP up items early, too.
Really makes you wonder what the point is of not having him know those abilities for such a tiny part of the game.
OK, what the frick is Louie's deal? Does he like, actively hate Olimar?
>tries to kill him in 2
>impedes the rescue mission in 3
>is just a c**t in 4
Is there a cure for this? Asking for Louie of course.
>compliant
nah
He goes to PNF when Shacho tells him to.
>Hey Louie, go to a dangerous alien planet and find Olimar. I will not be paying you extra for this.
>...ok...
oh no i tick like 23 of these
You can't self-diagnose these things for the exact same reasons horoscopes are popular. It's easy to read "occasionally strikingly amoral" and think of the one time in 20 years where you drop kicked a toddler, but an external observer will look at the other 7299 days of your life and say "yeah, there's no pattern of that kind of behavior there."
Are the ports of the first two any good
Platting some of those dandori levels is fricking painful.
finished the game a while ago, it's cool, some sections are hard like atemping platium on leaf trial or a few regular dandori challenge, i do think the game would have been better with more enemy focused challenge, the king cavern, the boss rush cave was nice but the fights are too short because oatchi rush, most other caves are completely dull without treasures left, they also should have forced back tracking on previous areas (and removed the 3 type limit, they kinda fricked this one) at least for 100 % the game, would have made the pacing miles better, hopefully the dlc blows
>Huge focus on Blues with deeper water and new water hazards
>Hoping for a completely, TRULY submerged cave, where all the sublevels are completely underwater and filled exclusively with aquatic enemies, allowing the ridiculous underwater mobility of Blues to shine in their own little cave
>Instead they just recycle the fricking Submerged Castle and make it easier
It seems so fricking obvious how did they frick this up
Because then the heckin' doggerino would be useless, even with the upgrade that lets him dive to pursue something.
On that note I'm surprised there wasn't also an Oatchi-less cave
Then it'd fully expose remnants of classic Pikmin bullshit, namely in part due to the fact no player is going to have swarming available to them until the literal last cave.
I feel like swarming doesn't have much use apart from nectar in 4, since if you swarm an object you won't get more than the minimum grabbing onto it. Charging almost makes it obsolete...?
Charging plus Oatchi
I think in general the game thinking I'm not aware enough to stop pressing A based on the number of pikmin I want to actually throw at an object is pretty annoying
The use of swarming is the funny trumpet.
Swarming is mostly just an evasive maneuver now. Charging stole its spot as an offense tool and Oatchi is basically the best of both worlds + free water immunity.
How do you cope that your shit baby game got utterly bearbroken?
I think you're looking for the ToTK thread anon.
Got all of the plats for the Sage trials except for 10. I beat it originally with 1 second left, and I'm dreading doing it again
10 is one of the easier ones I think, just make oatchi be the dedicated onion b***h and ignore the wraith
>tfw I finally realized you can work backwards with the captain while Oatchi transports the Onion
Dude after trying it several dozen times FINALLY figuring that out was INCREDIBLE. Sage Leaf trials were peak optional difficulty. Because they WERE difficult and the puzzles required mastery of the game's mechanics and understanding of every strategy.
Game feels a little empty after playing Tinykin.
2 > 4 = 1 = 3 (mission mode) > 3 (story mode)
objective truth
God you buttholes don't know how to do math.
3 is still objectively the best. 4 might be the worst. Dont @ me.
>4 might be the worst.
You can't just say that with no explanation.
What fricking backwards logic is this? 3 is easily the worst. 4 might be the best.
I'm no speedrunner but I'm really enjoying replaying and trying to optimize Shipwreck Tale. Just got it down to eight days, it's going to be HARD getting a single-day finish on any of the locations but I feel like I'm getting close on Hero's Hideaway.
I’m terms of level difficulty

Louie is the only real person among these NPCs.
my sides holy hell
I just beat 1. 1000 pikmin sprouted, 250 deaths. Cool concept for a game but I hope the sequels are more expansive and innovative in ideas.
Distant Garden sucks frick putting 3 big black bulorbs in a row.
You love black bulb-orbs
The real problem with distant springs is the blowhog near them.
Bulblax is the worst boss unless you specifically set out to style on him with bomb rocks.
>unless you specifically set out to style on him with bomb rocks.
That's what I did, pick up all the bomb rocks around the arena beforehand. Maybe that's why he felt underwhelming if it's not intended
>if it's not intended
Depends. Did you have him eat the bomb-rock Pikmin or did you get the Pikmin to throw the bombs at his tongue?
iirc bomb rocking his tongue is easier in the switch version
This shit
is not true
>Pikmin to throw the bombs at his tongue?
You have to throw them specifically at his tongue? I didn't even realize I just threw them at his face.
How many days did you take?

Why must homosexuals always appropriate other people's characters in support of sodomy even when those characters are completely non-sexual and from sex-free media?

I just got to the ending of the 4 story campaign. Didn't expect for it give me the feels, that last scene was beautiful. and seeing Louie and Moss in the credits made me happy.
Now time to finish the rest of the games content and play the others! :]
nimkip
The only plats I haven't gotten yet now are the Dandori Battles. Any advice for those?
Could Oatchy defeat pic related?
it's like 1/100th time its size, so I doubt it
Is there a reason why Pikmin have a totally different death sound in Smash when compared to the Pikmin games
Sakurai does not care about Pikmin
I'm still butthurt that they didn't go full Koopalings with the palette swaps and we only got Olimar and Alph.
giving us Alph but not fricking Louie was criminal

Yeah, thats because you cant die in Smash.

Every fricking day. Every single fricking day when I come home this little homosexual just sits there and gives me this stupid look on her face.
Why do you play a game for litteral babies?
Why is your grammar on par with a literal baby?
Why do you purposefully confuse grammar with spelling?
Because its fun. And casual strategy games where you are a entity in the world instead of a semi-omniscient commander in the sky are rare and often don't have pretty environments to explore.
How does this run on emulator? I bought the game but now I don't wanna buy a switch. There is nothing else I'd play
2 has the best soundtrack. Puts it higher up on the list for me. 3 and 4 are insanely weak in comparison.
What is this?
a couple threads back some anon said moss had a steve harvey stare, so other anons tried to make a parody of it.
My wife, moss. My wife.
Really miss the text from the earlier games, both the bubbly font and the way it wiggles onscreen rather than cleanly snapping into place

1 day wistful wild is easy right? right??
here are the exact fonts used if anyone here is that autistic: https://twitter.com/WafflesMMMM/status/1676906475267162113
i found it interesting that p2 uses the soulless wii-era rodin font like the later games, but it feels like it blends in a lot better so i never really noticed
Rock supremacy
I love their voices
Rock pikmin are so OP, I love them
Louie when he eyes a snack
I love the enemy models in 4.
i feel like its eyes were more detailed in 3
IIRC they were because 3 introduced th eyes being a weak point
Enemy models are lower quality to allow bigger levels.
Now, they're just more cartoonishly textured like the first 2 games instead of 3's maximum realism approach
I think it was a deliberate artstyle change after 3 made the enemies look really ugly
They were, it made the bulborbs look unappealing in my opinion though
My schizoid co-captain can't POSSIBLY be this hungry!

oh shit nice find man

Oatchi's bonk plucks pikmin sprouts. Even if they're in the air. So this is actually the fastest way to pluck sprouts from candypop buds.
Does that work with the Onion if you rush into one of its legs or a very nearby wall?
So what happens if you go to the first two Olimar battles after saving him? I know the third is mandatory due to the pilot.
bernard is always the third leafling to be rescued after finishing a dandori battle, and you need bernard just to access hero's hideaway, so you physically can't skip any dandori battles before saving olimar unless someone finds a freak glitch
Oh. I thought they were fixed.
I am emulating 3 on CEMU and cannot find a very comfortable control scheme
when i played it on cemu i just used my controller and the kb+m for all of the gamepad stuff, which was incredibly annoying but i still managed to finish the game anyway. if that bothers you then unfortunately you're better off emulating the switch version
how do we feel about Shepherd?

Why even bother letting me customize it if my choice won't be represented literally anywhere?
because they had to make all the npcs, so they figured they may as well give the player access to the character creator
I wish they'd give players a little more access to the character creator
I'd like to give my PikMan glasses and a reasonable hair color
What do you want schizo, for random people to draw fanart of (You) ?
I'd rather just have one canon character that's better fleshed out.

i thought these designs were ugly and stupid six months ago and i still think they're ugly and stupid >:(
that filename makes me wish you recorded your sirehound attempts with only 8 pikmin lol, very impressive either way. did you use the lightning strat against him?
i don't know what the lightning strat is, but the whole boss took me about 45 minutes including failed attempts so i'm glad i didn't record that. i pretty much just fought it normally, each phase took about 10 cycles because my damage was very low
i haven't tried it yet but apparently you can use lightning at just the right time to stun the sirehound and get a lot more damage on him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOAJI1hR56I
with an actual squad it makes almost every phase a one-cycle, for your run it's probably completely irrelevant but it might've made it slightly less tedious? idk
I always thought Pom was cute and Shepherd's really grown on me after playing through the game

DANDORI ISSUE
nta but i grinded up to 100 purples in ec too not knowing that there was a doomsday apparatus-esque treasure in the final area. pikmin 2 chads stay winning B)
You literally can't grind purples in the Emergence Cave, the candypop buds won't spawn if you have 20 or more purples.
Nice try
Nobody tell him
I don't have that unlocked yet.
just need to get a good base amount of all of them so I can progress
You don't need much purples or whites until you can get their Onion anyway.
I am just about to do a cave that said it needed only purples and whites in 5th area.
And you can get their Onion's before doing the 5th area.
oh yeah I gotcha. guess I can work on Olimars thing and do all that now.
Final challenge assumes you maxed Oatchi's carrying if you haven't yet.
AND talked to Olimar to get Moss's skill. You need all 6 buffs and the swallow ability.
You have to get that to the challenges anyway.
Post wholesome Shepard fanart
fat biiiiiitch
why does everyone hate 2…
I love 2…
Caves suck.
explain
Hello Andre from GameXplain
Caves are one of the best things in Pikmin tho
Not to me
how often do I really need to bring white pikmin with me in 2, I'm afraid that I'll always miss a treasure that was hidden underground on some random floor of a cave
If there's buried treasure it'll have a indication to bring them.
Even then I don't usually bring more than like 5 white pikmin.
Oatchi can sniff out buried treasure, whites are better for fast carrying and poison resistance in 4
Every cave in 2 that requires white pikmin for something either says it has poison in it or has a white candypop bud.
You don't need to bring them anywhere else.
Where do you find that? Didn't see it in their logs.
Is this shit fake, when do they ever talk to each other?
Olimar is a saint
reminds me of olimar's comback in pikmin 3 dx
>olimar gets mad at louie and yells at him
>louie runs off
>olimar beats himself up over losing his temper
>louie is just looking for food
>struggling hard with some dandori level
>replay it like 10 times before I realize you can move your base to a different part of the level
>I didn't pay attention and missed the circle of pink gems every time
frick man. I am too used to the older games for this shit
today I had a resurfaced memory of renting pikmin 2 and falling in love with it then showing it to my dad who cussed me out and called me names and I never played pikmin again
if it's any consolation, your dad has horrible taste in videogames
dadori issues
I swear this series was called Pikimin
Is that just Mandela effect or am I moronic?
Both of those are the same thing.
You are moronic or only heard it from people with accents and never read the title.
>Day is about to end
>Get all my pikmin killed before it happens
The only proper way to play, they are expendable.

Hopefully Pikmin 5 brings back a timelimit so we can go for maximum death count runs again
can you guys post funny images of oatchi and moss so i can send them to my girlfriend 🙂

Bikmin 2 is great
I am playing it after finishing 4 and have 100%ed the first two areas

Who is Moss?
I love all these sonic and shadow images of the dogs LOL
Here friend
and another but with moss
The frick is wrong with Otchi’s eyes?
Guess they wanted to make the eyelids look shiny but had a pretty weird way of doing it, lol
How do you deal with this frick anyway
Do you just run?
If you have Purple Pikmin, bully it
If you don’t have Purples, run
if pikmin 2 is all of a sudden so bad then why is it so expensive and sought after?
The same reason why Hey Pikmin doubled in price with the release of Pikmin 4.
Because no amount of contrarianism will change it being the overall fan favorite before 4 came out.
gross
>got the purple onion while there's still two more areas left in the main game
feels good
Be sure to make use of it, remember that enemies on the surface don't respawn
Are the onions random? I've hundo'd every area and still lack the last 3 onions with only the last area to go.
White and Purple you get from challenges you unlock after finishing Olimar's side story
Ah, I did his story but didn't go right into that cave. I should do that to get all the purples I need for that giant gold bar.
Me on the right
rocks > purples
I love Purple Pikmin
the attack nerf really sucks I agree, they'd be a main type for me without that just for the insane carry speed
Why are White Pikmin so underwhelming, bros...?
Have we ever seen a Pikmin character in regular street clothes before or is it all space suits?
Bold to assume Louie changes clothes.
Anyone else fricking hate this thing in the Primordial Thicket?
Should Louie be held accountable for his crimes, or should he be left alone to rule his kingdom?
since when is eating a crime?

pikmin 4 officially beaten with only 8 pikmin
if anyone knows a way to bypass the 7 pikmin required for the tutorial or the one ice pikmin required to save the scientist, please let me know
i am now realizing that i could've probably skipped the 8th pikmin by using two player mode to throw rocks at the ice gate
Does the Pikmin website ever give ages for any of the members of the Rescue Crew?
Made me think, age is probably an arbitrary concept to a group of aliens with different home planets that likely have different-length years
The only plats I haven't gotten are the battles against Louie. By god this guy is relentless. Any tips?
Steal anything he tries to go for
Jiren?
oatchi, rock pikmin and purple pikmin nuke bosses so badly it's not funny
Canonically crack babies.
>down syndrome bulborbs
>crack baby mamutas
>autistic hocotatians
pikmin 4 is wild
Are these and the dogs the only confirmed mammals. The only others that seem close are Blowhogs and Mamutas.
olimar does mention breastfeeding mammalians are rare on the planet
was the blowhog family ever confirmed to not be mammals to begin with?
Amprats are cute from above...but if you were pikmin sized they would be giant rats that would run straight at you, paralyze you, grab you with their hands and CRONCH you.
This thing seems like a mammal sort of

How does Pikmin get away with it
same way people upload jerking off videos on youtube, it's educational
hand expression is a fun search term on youtube
No fricking way, Jerking off is allowed just like that guy that used ass hair removal cream to show off his brown eye to everybody?
>e10+
i just realized 3 and 4 are e10+ last month and it's fricking hilarious to me considering how the post-gc games are brighter, cartoonier, friendlier and less disturbing across the board except for a few background details most people won't pay attention to
this art screams "i am going to lewd the female characters in this videogame, even though they suck", "pom" doesn't even have a fricking name and shepherd isn't particularly great either. back in my day we played as the infinitely based ORIMA, ROUIE and SACHO and that was that goddamn it
We were beyond robbed that we got an Olimar alt in Smash bros and it's fricking ALPH over Louie or the President. Even Charlie would've been acceptable. We even lost the Chocomar skin for it.
It should've been like Bowser Jr. each costume a new captain.
We have 7 captains now, so maybe for the next one.
God I bet her pussy is so pink and puffy
Smash brothers is great they just have WEIRD prioirties over what does and doesn't get love and attention
>literally nobody plays Bowser Jr. because he sucks and is stupid, get eight models with unique voicelines anyway
>Pikmin gets maybe 15 music tracks, one of them is fricking stock cricket and bird sound effect I don't think is even actually used in the games itself, stuff like Forest navel is inexplicably left out
>Unique crowd voices for Roy and Roy
Why?
>smash introduces echo fighters for all characters that were just costumes like Daisy or Dark Samus
>everyone except Alph
Always struck me as odd. Like they just forgot he exists.
I don't know why all of the Pikmin Captains aren't just koopaling alts but for Olimar. They wouldn't even really need the voicelines part. All of the captains do the same thing anyway, there's no reason why they can't just be all in. If they keep Olimar for the next sm*sh game there would be even less reason to not have Shepherd, Collin or Lisa as alts for him as well. Unless Oatchi + Lisa is what they end up going with as a new character.
Leaf Sage or Leafling Olimar should be an alt
No idea why Britanny is such a c**t towards him.
Absolute icon.
Nah, Charlie's cool, he's my favorite Pikmin 3 captain.
Charlie is based, he's my favorite non-2 captain of the series. Olimar, Sacho, and especially Louie are way too based to ever be topped but Charlie is a damn worthy successor.
Charlie was the best thing about 3.
what do you mean, he's cool.
Alph was supposed to be a clone who would use Rock Pikmin, but that didn't work out for Smash 4 and Sakurai didn't try it again as an echo for Ultimate
let them have their fun, this artist mainly draws Olimar and Louie shipping content anyways
Since they're distant relatives of humans do you think a human could knock them up?
Size difference alone it ain't happening, a human sperm would probably be close to the size of a tadpole and a Koppaite/Hocotatian Sperm would never even reach a human egg, let alone have the strength to penetrate the outer membrane all sperm need to do to fertilize.
>a human sperm would probably be close to the size of a tadpole
So what you're saying is that a Koppaite/Hocotatian could fill their pussy with a bunch if human sperm, seal up their pussy, then jerk off while all the human sperm swarm around inside her pussy?
anon settle down okay, I don't these sort of thoughts about Pikmin
Consider this: the ship shrinks down cargo to fit in the hold, so a human might theoretically be able to exploit this to reach a more feasible size.
I think it's funny how the space people are confused about almost everything they find on earth, except for the combobot. Giant robots are truly universal.
>combobot.
piks dig giant robots
Another thing I noticed while browsing the Treasure Catalog: Why do they know what an octopus is
Because octopuses are aliens.
I liked 4 but it rubbed me the wrong way thematically. Everything revolving around the dogs, really soured my experience even though i liked oatchi as a mechanic
I like how Pikmin enemies all have weird alien names yet this dude has a pretty tame one
What fun name would you come up for it?
>Regurgitating Georespirator
wait give me a second I feel like I made my try a bit too much like a treasure name instead of a creature name I wanna try again
Vombtulx
>Clodlaunching Spewdle
>the secret title screen
?t=37
I was so happy when they brought Submerged Castle back, even if it was basically the same thing again I don't care it was kino
>playing pikmin 1
>constantly losing pikmin because of shitty pathfinding and pikmin outright refusing to listen to my commands.
I hate losing pikmin for no reason
>you can just dismiss oatchi and 100 rock pikmin near an emperor bulblax and they'll instagib him
kinda funny.
Well the final cave would've been easier if I had remembered how fricking broken Rock Pikmin are against bosses
I wish they had more hair options and colours.
Total epic gut-punch moment. Glad you got to enjoy that, anon.
Such hardcore design.
>There's not a single game breaking bug in Pikmin 1
>This is the only one that can be argued to be "game breaking" and even in the incredibly rare case it does happen you can just reset the day. Never had it happen in any of my playthroughs. It's a bit of an exaggeration
you love to see it
The lengths people will go to commit to the Pikmin 2 bad psyop lol
People conflate 1s total lack of quality of life with bugginess. It's not buggy its just clunky.
2 alone just feels much better to play.
the crushing glitch is an actual bug, tho
no man 1 is like actually buggy
it's my favorite but i remember it happening often in the GC version, a pikmin would start hitting the air after finishing a stickpile or bridge
4's first entire area is a tutorial island and after that it does let you actually play the game. It is by far the longest entry in the series, I'd say twice the length of p1 or p3 at the very least.
That being said there is a lot of (skippable) dialogue due to the nature of constantly rescuing castaways.
>twice the length of p1
I don't think it would be exaggerating to say its at least 5x the length of p1
That was probably some beta thing that they could fix.
If it's unintentional, I find it funny they turned it into a feature for the Empress Bulblax babies.
Yeah, they are so weak and the purples destroy them, so it makes sense. You can kill then by one punching them with the captains.
>tried out pikmin while dolphin was still in development
>wasn't a fan of the time limit, dropped
>tried out Pikmin 4's demo
>Wordsworsxdowrosdworwowowords
>decide to give Pikmin 1 another go
>time is actually fair and managed to get the two first area's items
Had to reload my game over the water and bomb bullshit, but damn is t fun so far
I loved 4 but the first hour is really fricking grating with all the chatty hand holding
I encourage you to go back and get past that - it doesnt last long
How the frick do I get in here
You gotta build a bridge across from the nearest onion so that Oatchi can jump you up
>Pretty much at the end of the game
>Still can't figure out s simple puzzle
moronbro...
I feel liek we are going to have some serious problems if Louie ever discovers Sage Leaf
if nintendo is smart they make him the constant chaos neutral villain of the series. I would honestly love to play as louie though
Holy frick I fricking HATE pikmin 4.
>item magnetism so you can't move the cursor easily especially when it matters
>can't throw a bunch of pikmin in an area where there's a bunch of individual items because the game's handholding features are ridiculous and it stops you from throwing more than the minimum required pikmin
>no swarming so you can't dodge enemy attacks in a fun way
>if you so much as leave an unplucked pikmin for later or leave pikmin idling for a few seconds you'll get nagged by the crewmates as if you are a moron
No I just don't care because the game has no fricking time limit.
>enemies don't respawn and there are no enemies that revive
>can 100% each location in sequence without needing to visit others
>huge enemy variety is irrelevant because dog and pikmin can stomp nearly everything easily
>can only take 3 goddamn pikmin types at a time LMAO
What is even the reason for this? Smooth brains can't comprehend so many pikmin types or something? I used to take an equal amount of each pikmin in 2 because you get a cute song.
This game is mediocre as frick. Anybody who has this game in their top two is a moron, or has forgotten the older games.
1>3=2>>>4
I already know I'm going to get a bunch of angry "downvotes" from angry redditors about this opinion, so go ahead reply with some dumb dogshit. Just know that I think you are an idiot and that your "opinion" is irrelevant to me.
skill issue
I don't hate the game, but I think that we'll never get the same experience as 1 again. It's so sad. The Olimar's story doesn't feel as nice as 1 either, and they didn't even model all of the ship's parts.
4 was so close to be great.
For me it's sad to see Nintendo as this husk of its former self.
The dog takes a whole slot in the pikmin type brain space prease understandu.
>no swarming so you can't dodge enemy attacks in a fun way
You're wrong, but also right because you don't get to use swarming until you've already visited the final cave.
Oh so it's in the game but right at the end. What the frick lmao
Yeah you know when the game tells you some NPCs will give you items as a reward instead of materials? Well it's only three of them and only available when you 98% finished the game.
I agreed with you til you put 2 below 3, contrarian homosexual
2 >1 >>>>>> 3> 4
>below 3
lol illiterates don't have opinions.
The game is too automated, the pikmin don't even trip anymore. 1 and 2 (even with the broken purples) felt so organic. Specially the first one.
Do these fricking motherfrickers ever shut the FRICK up during night missions?
The game treats you as a tard and you're going to get wrangled buddy
Why isn't there a genocide option in this game. I want to turn all the rescues into pikmin pellets
>day 85
So 4 is basically 2 with a dog instead of difficulty? Am I missing something?
2 with a dog and handholding with Nintendo's iron grip
These threads bring me an ungodly amount of joy. Reminds me of the NTWEWY launch threads.
The amount of reaction images, memes, and great art you anons have been posting has made my year. All 10 years for this game were worth it. Cheers, PikGAWDS
test
I just retrieved Olimar from the wall safe. The game's really great with the level of detail put into the different worlds and enemies. Oatchi's much better integrated than I'd thought he'd be too. I wish nighttime missions were harder in line with previous games talking about how dangerous it is at night and I wish there was proper coop or challenges, but otherwise the game's pretty great.
