The worst thing is now the Pikmin subreddit is now turning against this meme because someone did one against trannies and that's apparently going to far which sucks because before 4 came out it was a fun place to visit but now the mentally unwell are converting into another sterile troony worship site
1 > 4 > 3 > 2 >1 is the perfect example of how a Pikmin game should be designed, the most "dandori" of them all basically. >4 has huge levels that are fun to explore, and while the main game is easy, it includes the hardest optional challenges of any Pikmin game. >3 is good and almost gets back to 1's greatness, but it places too much emphasis on a linear story path instead of giving you freedom to collect the fruit in whatever manner you choose. >2 has the most SOVL in its aesthetics but also caves fricking suck I hate them and they're most of the game
So why did they create Glow Pikmin instead of using Bulbmin? They have many similarities and Bulbmin would have fit night since Bulborbs are nocturnal. There's no reason to ever bring back Bulbmin now unless they get a major overhaul. It's really just a nitpick and I don't care too much, but I get why some do. It's a cool concept to have parasitic pikmin.
I guess Nintendo really wanted the night pikmin to be ghostly. It justifies certain abilities like teleporting to the player or fusing into a spirit bomb.
Glow pikman just fit the design of night missions better. Notice how changing captains also moves glow pikman? How r u gon do that with bulmin?
(They should have been in caves tho)
Mini oatchis (if they don't use the dog captain concept again).
They would lose all their resistances but can still float in water like oatchi. When they charge they do more damage and their bites do more, but they can't be thrown.
Yeah I got most of the non-combat(and several combat) upgrades for him including the 100 carry capacity one, so he should more or less be all set on that front.
Tons of content, low skill floor, high skill ceiling. I'd say 1 is a better starting point, as 4 has a bunch of stuff that exists as a love letter to each of the previous titles, but 4 is also a fine game to play first if you just wanna play the one everyone is talking about.
Lots of content and a large variety of it. You have the typical surface exploration, you have caves, dandori battles, dandori missions, tower defense (night mode), and some more great content that’s unlocked in the latter half of the game. The Piklopedia and treasure catalog are back as well and bigger than ever. Pikmin 4 is an amalgamation of the coolest aspects from the first three games while introducing things of its own. It’s the definitive Pikmin experience.
Yeah. I'd argue the ones at the first area are meant to be the hardest before the final area and the ones in the awakening wood are the easiest, though. But just go get whatever upgrade you want first, I guess.
I really want additional content in 4, there’s not much game left when you get some of the big game changing upgrades, and no matter how you tackle it, there’s basically always a set of upgrades that are just useless because the game is over.
I've completely forgotten how to dandori since Pikmin 3 Deluxe. I get the low Pikmin limit at the beginning. Sometimes I wish there's a new game plus mode where you can start with 100 Pikmin limit and speed gather everything in a few days.
I've 100% Area 1 on my first playthrough. Its just hard to remember I need to buy upgrades to use half the features. I still have to beat the game. I'll have to replay a new game to improve my times.
With all of the upgrades in this one it is really unfortunate there is no NG+ mode. I want to blitz through the whole story with infinite stamina Oatchi.
I hope we get a plushie of Moss. I grew pretty fond of Oatchi pretty far into Pikmin 4 but I still think Moss is a more charming character and she just has a more interesting design/personality overall.
is alph's only defining character trait the fact that he tastes the best?
>missed a structure >no way to check structures from hub >also the structure might be in some random fricking cave
FRICK OFF
you don't have to check EVERY cave since some of them don't have structures at all, but yes that sidequest is easily the worst one in the game. it's like they were trying to punish anyone who thought they could be cheeky and be a little faster by skipping one
Uh... is it a bad sign if all of this describes me?
you could just be a regular old sperg, the symptoms of autism and schizoid disorder are eerily similar
>Lost Pikmin: 20
you didn't beat the game
i was losing my fricking mind and barely finished that run a few hours before pikmin 4 leaked. i'll do p1 deathless whenever my mental state recuperates and i can stomach losing one pikmin to beady and resetting multiple times in a row
ok mr. "dandori issue", feel free to post your personal pikmin 1 and 2 low day records and then tell me i'm bad at the game :3
The worst thing is now the Pikmin subreddit is now turning against this meme because someone did one against trannies and that's apparently going to far which sucks because before 4 came out it was a fun place to visit but now the mentally unwell are converting into another sterile troony worship site
your first mistake was taking anything on r*ddit even remotely seriously
What's the point of flying pikmin if they can still get stuck on things like this? I hate winged pikmin so much, bros. >slow >awful fighters >will literally fly to objects you're not targeting when you throw them just because they feel like it
They're just the worst.
Most overrated Pikmin type by far. It feels like you need to tard wrangle them even more than other Pikmin types in 3, for basically no payoff aside from when you have to use them. They just suck ass and their design is bad to boot.
R8 my ideas to fix pikmin 4/ what they should do for pikmin 5
Fix controls (toggle auto lock)
remove 3 type limit, it just makes changing out types annoying when you you have guys stuck doing something on the other side of the map
Night missions are ass. Incorporate that into your main day by having your onion leave you behind. Luminkolls are visible but inactive during the day, become active at night where you can replinish losses with glow pikmin and i guess farm sap for objectives. Glow pikmin are the reward part of the risk since they're so strong. Naturally enemies are stronger and some would migrate into the map as the night goes on
Cut back a few of the bloated/empty areas and repeat treasures.
Add a soft time limit (respawning enemies, i also came up with an idea that if you spend too long in an area various weather effects will happen).
Rebalance ice and blues (ice is too strong, blue power is tied to level design which this game did well but i would also add some small buffs for survivability) Rock and Pinks were weak in this game as they are also reliant on level design, I would add more puzzles specific to them
Fix pink's ai (they use blue's pathfinding instead of their own, this makes problems)
Spread oatchi's abilities across 3 captains instead of 1 super unit, bring back c-stick (dog is ok but i like the idea of dandori maxing by managing 3 dudes)
let everyone use bomb rocks
Add campaign coop that isnt the pebble pitcher
rpg sidequests are worthless and add nothing just tie upgrades to treasures
remove dalmo/schwartz they are worthless and add nothing, rescue corps do the treasure/enemy descriptions now
Don't pussy out and add back groinks/puffmin
make el presidente a captain again
Super spicy mode: >50 pikmin, you start with 20 and fralics upgrade by 3~5 until 50 >dog and you die in 1 hit, upgrades die to 2,3 >if dog dies, he is out for the whole day >day resets every item and enemy to their original location, including caves which resets literally eveyrthing if you dont complete in one go. >you cannot swap/refresh pikmin midday, you gotta farm them if they die >every consumable cost 200 gems now and has a cap of 2 limit and every player upgrade cost 1000. >dog rush/damage is basically removed entirely >dog upgrades cost way more and are limited and you need to devote to lines in a specific playthrough to get him specialized. Rush/damage line is removed >ice pikmin no longer freeze, it just slow enemies down. >if you don't bring a treasure/rescue in a single day, you lose gems, if you die, you lose all your gems. >onion backup pikmin cap is 20 per type.
>every consumable cost 200 gems now and has a cap of 2 limit and every player upgrade cost 1000. >if you don't bring a treasure/rescue in a single day, you lose gems, if you die, you lose all your gems
This sounds miserable even by challenge run standards. Unless you drastically increase the number of gems available, it basically makes the challenge "collect 1 treasure and farm every gem in the area then repeat on the next day with a different treasure."
Yeah, just give the player the charge from the beginning and that's it. Eventually, though, Olimar and Louie do find upgrades for hazards, maybe it could be done for the main character and not for Oatchi.

I think the problem for me is that they just become available too quickly and it's easy to buy all of them so close to the start of the game that it feels dumb to even make you buy them. A hard mode playthrough should AT LEAST space them out so you don't get them all right away, maybe make them cost more so you have to really weigh the benefits of each upgrade instead of just buying everything immediately.
>didn't know about this quest beforehand >skip a bridge in one cave because you finish the floor before even getting to it >get quest and have to go back and check EVERY FLOOR OF EVERY CAVE UNTIL I FIND IT just to 100%
I actually quite like how Olimar plays
3 Pikmin is perfectly fine, Brawl's 6 was absurd
His issues in Smash are the following: >Lack of voice, normies need to hear his deep ass monotone >Stop the Sakurai headcanon and give him his 3/4 suit design >Playstyle is a bit too campy and boring >Why does Alph have the Hocotate Ship in his Final Smash instead of the Drake
i really don't think you should integrate any more pikmin in his moveset he's complex enough as is i'd make his recovery his jetpack from Hey! Pikmin just to keep him to Pikmin from 1/2, another pikmin character could use the other types
6 was broken but 3 is too little, it's a complete nerf to Olimar's best brawl feature which is latch damage and pummeling. Buff it to 4 and increase the super frames on Olimar's whistle.
>Named my Rookie Dash after the Daschund we used to have years ago >Daschunds are also known to delve into burrows to flush out prey.
That dog still putting a smile on my face
So the time line is Shipwreck tale is 1, Olimar getting LEAF'd pushes back the events of 2. and 3 is on the verge of happening. This means that the events of 2, and 3 will probably be happening at the same time. is Miyamoto a crazy enough dude to make Pikmin 5, Pikmin 2+3?
i don't like this timeline, because Louie fricking over the company while Olimar was gone caused the events of pikmin 2, and Louie can't frick over the company if he's on PNF 404.
I would assume that it were to happen in some mission afterwards.
Why would the koppais send a scouting party to PNF-404 if they have already explored it and presumably seen the juice.
Don't some of the Koppai castaways in 4 already talk about the struggling population? In this timeline they'd probably just think to come to the planet as soon as the starvation problem happens. They would still be ship wrecked though.
>Louie can't frick over the company if he's on PNF 404.
he took the company credit card before he left and is using it to get millions of doordash deliveries
Miyamoto hates consistent story and lore. On the one hand, I understand that gameplay and fun should come before everything else. On the other hand, going out of your way to intentionally retcon and reboot and sabotage any semblance of a coherent timeline of events is really dumb. Miyamoto has good intentions but he's too stubborn about certain things.
Pikmin 5 will have Olimar and Louie trapped in a dimensional warp sending them to the 1-3 timeline caused by Louie spilling chocolate milk mix on the controls. In that timeline, they make a stop on PNF-404 without crashing where he meets up with the 3 Koppaites who he obviously doesn't know that came back due to another food shortage due to war with Giya while Louie runs off and devours the Plasm Wraith to become a Galactus-like being. He then eats Giya and after being defeated by Olimar and the Koppaites destroying the Plasm Wraith by going inside of him, Olimar convinces them forgive Louie for attempting to destroy the universe because he at least ended the war. It is then revealed Louie ate that universe's equivalent of Hocotate and Olimar loses it at the realization that Louie killed his counterpart family amd makes him sit in the corner with no food on the trip back through the dimensional warp.
Yes, you need to hold L, I was thinking about that HORI controller with buttons behind the controller handles. It has turbo, but it doesn't have the motion control for finer movements (mostly used for smashing dwarves bulbmin though).
So, I was thinking about using right handle button for turbo throwing and the left for L (swarm). It's hard to pull it on a standard controller and it wouldn't be cheating, since it's an official/licensed product.
Is it me or the HD versions lost that "dream like" visuals from 1 and 2? The GC/Wii games had this motion blur going on a low framerate with some native blur froom the composite cables, that aesthetic used to give a dream-like visual/unique visual. I think that could've been kept on HD versions of the game.
They should've kept the motion blur, at least, I think that's what gave us this dream-like feeling. Majora's Mask had the same effect, specially before the Majora's fight in that pocket dimension with a tree.
>muh dream like visuals
I want to go back in time and abort whoever popularized this term.
What do you mean? Take a look at the GC version, it feels more like a dream than a "real thing" like the Switch version, since it's so sharp and it's running at 60FPS without any motion blur.
I think the problem for me is that they just become available too quickly and it's easy to buy all of them so close to the start of the game that it feels dumb to even make you buy them. Yeah, you need to make hard for yourself and not buy anything or disable everything if you doing a completionist run.
>What do you mean?
People use this term for so many retro games it's lost all meaning, and like you're doing with Pikmin it usually has more to do with hardware limitations than any attempt by the developers to evoke actual dreamlike feelings.
And it's moronic revisionism invented by youtubers who want to sound insightful in video essays.

It's not. Whether the game was designed around limitations or not, it is not a good argument to say that the designers didn't intend that look.
Everything is designed around limitations, and this port didn't take the visuals aspects of the time as a consideration when porting it.
Playing on a CRT tv is very different than playing on a LCD/LED screen. Even the cables mattered when expression the artistic vision.
Pikmin 1 could've run without the motion blur, but they chose to use that, that was an artistic expression of the game, it was a choice, which was later removed from the latest game.
Changing the merchandising/products from the models impact the feeling that we had that we were playing on planet Earth, for example.
All these changes keeping adding into each other changing a lot of the feeling of the older games.
Switch version is just too crisp, but it has fixed a lot of bugs and the motion gameplay is better because it's more like the original games, not like the wiimote that basically feels like cheating.
It happens all the time, another one that comes into my mind is the way the ported RE HD to PC.

Also, I forgot to say that you are oversimplifying everything because you are obviously so smart that you can see what no one else can. Right? The devil is in the details.

>you are obviously so smart that you can see what no one else can. Right?
Thanks for the compliment, but no, that's not what I'm trying to say at all.
>What do you mean? Take a look at the GC version, it feels more like a dream than a "real thing"
Reviews for Pikmin in 2001 praised it for its realism
I think you're applying too much of a modern viewpoint to this, no one thought Pikmin looked like a dream when it released
We had no definition of "realism" back then, it just meant "better graphics" in general. It obviously felt more realist when you were coming from N64. Even Sonic Adventure was praised for its realism.
Yup, this is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.
They should've kept the CRT color gamut and the motion blur, I think that with that they could've achieve a visual comparable to the older ones, that would've been a good translation.
Good, I pre-ordered the physical versions 1 and 2 specifically because the blur on 1 is fricking horrendous and I want it gone. It gives me motion sickness. 2 GC isn't so bad but 1 is genuinely unplayable.
They should've kept the motion blur, at least, I think that's what gave us this dream-like feeling. Majora's Mask had the same effect, specially before the Majora's fight in that pocket dimension with a tree.

And now, my thoughts on every sage leaf trial. I did not aim for platinums nor did I retry for better ranks, I merely wanted to complete them >Bulblaxes
Bronze. Admittedly took my sweet time for an otherwise easy challenge >Snow Problem
Bronze. The problem is that the pikmin holding the pine comes don’t always follow you after throwing one. Had to reset once because for some reason they refused to move no matter what. First hard challenge for me >Dig Deep
Bronze. Relatively challenging but it’s easy to form a plan. If they kept white pikmin’s hidden treasure digging ability this would’ve been a much harder challenge >Dandori Seas
Silver. Oddly easy. Not really much else to say >The White Key
Bronze. Also pretty easy. Probably the only time winged pikmin come in clutch. I think a cooler idea for this challenge would be to clear out Arachnodes to a clear a path for them >Gimmick Gambit
Platinum. I didn’t actually feel like doing the challenge so I did that speedrun exploit that let’s you skip the whole thing >One Fell Jump
Gold. I can see why the lock on would be annoying here but otherwise not horrible. Problem is Shearfleas sniping my pikmin when I lose track of them >Crowded Kitchen
Bronze. This one took me the longest and fricked me up. Cannot possibly imagine doing this one platinum, the Dandori skills you need for this one are insane. I hate gathering gold so much >Turf Turmoil
Silver. Just a basic boss rush, also nothing worth noting >The Purple Key
Bronze. Well crafted escort mission. Makes good use of the water wraith and gives you lots of opportunities for shortcuts and tricks. Probably my favorite challenge and a good send off
Not bad.
I will say, as miserable as crowded Kitchen can be to start with, the more I redid it the more I appreciated it. It ended up probably being my favorite to Platinum.
Also wtf, why would you use the glitch. Gimmick Gambit has gotta be the easiest one to platinum legitimately. There's no crazy dandori tricks involved, you just play the level well.
Crowded Kitchen ain't too bad. Just convert 5 whites to purples and have them and oatchi carry the heavy treasures while the other white pikmin carry the gold. Open up the shortcuts with the purples first.
the short movies are genuinely some of my favorite excerpts of 3D animation ever
i'd kill for a full length pikmin movie that's just silent antics like occupational hazards for 2 hours
It's not a reboot, moron.
Pikmin 4 just takes place between Pikmin 1 and 2, they simply retconned a few thing in Pikmin 1, Pikmin 2 and 3 still happen after the events of 4.
Certain teases involving Olimar's Son and his dog Bulbie suggest that Pikmin 5 will take place after Pikmin 3.
I mean look at this, what the frick were they thinking. When I played Oatchi got stuck on the damn geyser at least half a dozen times, the collision is awful
>Every other cave in the game is pretty relaxed and short >Final cave is a 20 floor gauntlet with some borderline kaizo romhack shit like this room and double Waterwraiths
It's not lame because it's a boss rush. It's lame because you have to sit through 20 loading screens for floors that hardly ever last longer than two minutes, and never reach the enemy density or dickish hazards of any of the Wistful Wild's caves, let alone the final one. I was fricking bored until I hit the Empress in the tight space, and the only other interesting floor has the final boss.
The empress was the only interesting remixed fight.
Sovereign blublax was OK because they recycled the sinking sand mechanic from the quaggled mireclops fight.
This was the 3rd time they reused the "man-at-legs submerged in water gimmick" in the franchise which was lame.
None of pikmin 4's original bosses were good and none of the arenas were that good either. Probably the best was the toxstool.
I don't care for the new Smoky Progg fight. It's way too easy despite being more complex than it was in 1.
Sirehound was a decent final boss. Perhaps the best final boss in the franchise mechanically, but I didn't care for it. It felt a lot like a Mario boss. I still prefer the chaos of Titan Dweevil and Plasm Wraith to the Sirehound's phases.
>Sovereign blublax was OK because they recycled the sinking sand mechanic from the quaggled mireclops fight.
Did they? I fed him a bomb rock and deleted him during the stun like every other Sovreign in the game.
I just noticed here, apparently, they also removed the glow effect from the Switch version. The colors are a bit off. Less saturated in the HD version.
I remember that the RE4HD had a lot of problems compared to the GC version, the developers ended up fixing everything and even added more stuff. There are still a little bit of color difference between the games, but that's not on how the game is running, but due to cable connections/TV sets, I remember that they talked about that. So to fix that they added a filter so you can change it to make it look like the original GC version, if you wanted.
I remember that some of the shaders weren't rendering correctly because they didn't port some of the shaders, but they did ended up fixing every detail, even the framerate. When I think about it, it's possibly one of the best ports ever made.
I wish that they had given this treatment to the Switch version.
Yep didn't occur to me until a few weeks before 4's release. Made me wonder about a whole bunch of schizo theories on the nature of the PNF-404 name-meaning.
According to the castaway dialogue, space has already been fully mapped and explored...except obviously the pikmin planet.
Thus none of them even considered the possibility that PNF-404 is NOT the name of the planet, and that they are on a nameless planet and given a return error.
And the Geiger counter from 1 implies it's because the planet is completely bombarded with radiation. Which might be why ships keep crashing there all the time.
>walk into the sirehound fight with no yellows and reds because I didn't want to give up my purples, whites, blues and ice because they've been important all dungeon long >it doesn't even have a water or poison phase and the ice phase is the only phase that you don't exploitly need the elemental pikmin (or oatchi upgrade)
Ok
abandoned by whoever her previous leader was until she learned the proper ways of being a captain through olimar, which was why she was able to lead the pikmin on her own in the end
just finished the p3dx olimar side stories for the first time, why in the name of fricking god is there this cloying cutesy w*man singing alongside the pikmin at the end. i couldn't even see the cutscene in yuzu so i had no idea what the frick was happening
I was honestly surprised they didn't bring her back for 4. Super Kirby Clash also had a song with vocals, which turned out to be a sort of test in the waters for Forgotten Land's main theme.
i would've been surprised if they did but i'm glad they chose not to bring back babi or whatever the frick their name ist, i will never tolerate english vocals in pikmin music if they aren't part of a strawberry flower song. what a fricking disgrace
also the side stories themselves were about as middling as everyone made them out to be, although it bothers me that eighting actually recolored baldy long legs to look like beady here, but they didn't do it in p4 where they doubled down even harder on pikmin 1 and 2 fanservice. baffling
Give me three reasons to finish Pikmin 2
1. louie 🙂
2. cavern of chaos floor 8
3. the ending cutscene is still my favorite in the series
p3's credits are comfy, sure, and i like getting to watch the pikmin just chill without any captains around, but i always thought the singing pikmin were a little too saccharine tbh. then again i didn't know about the singing in olimar's comeback until 30 minutes ago
2's 100% ending just feels magical to me (so does pikmin 1's, love that credits music), and it still feels bittersweet knowing that was the last time we saw olimar and louie for nearly 10 years, even though we've had two games since. also the fakeout after you pay off the debt immediately followed by louie fricking around during the credits is so good that pikmin 4 tried to replicate it, even though it didn't do it as well
Who is the best new explorer in the game, and why is Dingo?
>acts like he's hot shit but sits on his ass back at base camp while (You) go out and do all of the actual work >simps for shepherd >ditched bernard to save his own ass and acts really weird about it even after you cure him >only exists to serve as the game's super guide stand-in for plebs, which is embarrassing considering none of the dandori missions or night missions are THAT difficult >just kind of a douchebag in general
god all of the rescue corps fricking suck, in a way i can appreciate that they all have character flaws but they didn't do a particularly great job of making any of them actually interesting or likable. also i looked up "bernard dingo" and people are already writing gay fanfics featuring them, fricking lol
>Named my Rookie Dash after the Daschund we used to have years ago >Daschunds are also known to delve into burrows to flush out prey.
That dog still putting a smile on my face
Are there enough points to go around that you can fully upgrade all of Oatchi's skills?
Shep raises a good point, why DIDN'T Collin tell us about d-pad shortcuts sooner? That smoothes things out so much
the sane, questionably functional part of my brain hates dalmo and this image by extension, but the part of my brain with a parasitic infection and a crippling femboy addiction thinks he looks kind of cute. why. for what purpose
the cloying "d'awww wook at the heckin cutesy wutesy snooky wooky pweicous widdle mufferino!! i wanna have its babies!!" redditspeak is why i don't like them and it's his only character trait lol. i do mostly like the olimar and louie notes so i guess that counts for something, even if a lot of them are reused from pikmin 2
I think 4 is great. In terms of all the content in it, I think it may be the best in the series. However, the sense of character it has is much weaker than the first two games and you have to put up with a lot of boring npcs chattering at you constantly, which gives the game a bit of a slow start.
I only played the original 3, not the deluxe one. Just based on that though I don't think you missed much. Easily the worst in the series.
I did not care for the Pikmin 4 dogs.
Did not care for them.
Much better than their game design, and they look much more the original concept art/Olimar's dog.
That is Bulbie on th left. And that's stupid. They are different dog breeds. They don't all need to look identical to each other.
>he hates the dogs
marimo
maromi
>beat Sirenhound
>still struggling with Dandori sage leaf trials
I must focus my dandori....tomorrow.
Why do they say this dog is homophobic on twitter?
Why are you on twitter?
Why are you here?
She just doesn't think it's normal.
The glare it gives reminding people of the homophobic dog meme.
I can see it.
I for one agree with Moss
unsurprisingly people already memed that kinda thing for moss, i think since before release too
Le epic memes
The worst thing is now the Pikmin subreddit is now turning against this meme because someone did one against trannies and that's apparently going to far which sucks because before 4 came out it was a fun place to visit but now the mentally unwell are converting into another sterile troony worship site
if they get mad, that means it's canon
What is his actual problem
bad writing
autism
Uh... is it a bad sign if all of this describes me?
Only sane man in a clown world.
Actual autism and not the self diagnose that the current populace like to give themselves
Shitty boss enabling his autism
You can't drop this with no sauce
I'm rich!!!
just enough for louie to grate over his feast
Anyone know about a 60fps mod?
there is one
link?
just seen people use it, don't know where to get it
why not go google it?
Don't use it. It breaks Otachi and Pikmin following AI and a bunch of other shit. Literally unplayable.
Do you think pikmin taste good
I crave more Pikmin 1 but 2 is being so handholdy
https://gamebanana.com/mods/461357
Pikmin 4 has been massively improved
yes
What's her canon name?
no name
Female Alph
She has 4 names that I remember, Riley, Emma, Lisa and Pom
Riley was assigned by the journalist playing the game, and Pom is a fan name. Emma and Lisa appear in official Nintendo material.
Pom is the best name though.
Emma or Lisa
Pom to match the dog themed names of the rescue corps
Collin is by far the best new character, I love this homie
been replaying 2 after finishing 4, i still like it better when it isn't raining fricking bomb rocks on you constantly
also lisa sexo
Love this artist interpretation of her, real cute
1 > 4 > 3 > 2
>1 is the perfect example of how a Pikmin game should be designed, the most "dandori" of them all basically.
>2 has the most SOVL in its aesthetics but also caves fricking suck I hate them and they're most of the game
>it includes the hardest optional challenges of any Pikmin game
I still think this is the Pikmin 1 challenge mode, though.
How would you propagate the dudes at night?
Adult Bulbmin encounters
I guess Nintendo really wanted the night pikmin to be ghostly. It justifies certain abilities like teleporting to the player or fusing into a spirit bomb.
Glow pikman just fit the design of night missions better. Notice how changing captains also moves glow pikman? How r u gon do that with bulmin?
(They should have been in caves tho)
Mini oatchis (if they don't use the dog captain concept again).
They would lose all their resistances but can still float in water like oatchi. When they charge they do more damage and their bites do more, but they can't be thrown.
OH LETS BREAK IT
DOWN!
I have never played a pikmin game, what makes the new one worth playing?
it features a funny dog
Its fun.
Gib examples maybe we can give advice?
Nothing specific, I know what I need to work on, I just need to practice my routing a bit.
Never forget they are designed with Oatchi in mind. He's the real answer to quite a few puzzles.
Yeah I got most of the non-combat(and several combat) upgrades for him including the 100 carry capacity one, so he should more or less be all set on that front.
You get a doggy, and twice as much stages over the first games. With that said, you should emulate 1 and get some fun and get to 2
Tons of content, low skill floor, high skill ceiling.
Who is the best new explorer in the game, and why is Dingo?
I went through the whole game wondering if this guy had a function beyond being a comic relief blowhard because I never failed at dandori
wait, he has a function?
Dingo's alright, but he betrayed the guy with the fun room on campus. I can't believe he would do something as horrible as eat Bernard's pizza.
Because he beats all the un-fun bullshit for me. <3
what is amazing is that apparently Dingo doesn't even use Pikmin.
He just powers through everything solo.
I miss my dog
in pikmin 2 once you have the 3 main pikmin you can do the caves in any order, right?
Yeah. I'd argue the ones at the first area are meant to be the hardest before the final area and the ones in the awakening wood are the easiest, though. But just go get whatever upgrade you want first, I guess.
Yeah, I think you can unlock all colors with Emergence Cave and White Flower Garden as the only mandatory caves
Don't forget to watch this masterpiece for Pikmin kino
I did 2 nights before Pikmin 4 released. Really was interesting seeing the series' DNA, I think it's fair to call it the true grandfather of Pikmin.
How to one-cycle the bug-eyed crawmad in 4?
Someone please tell me, there's not enough time to freeze it, it always gets back up too quickly.
>One Cycle
What? You mean in one day?
in one flip
Don't think you can without a lot of Ice Pikmin.
One cycle means kill an enemy before it becomes immune to your attacks, or shakes off the pikmin, etc.
Even with a lot, all spicy sprayed, it freezes just as it goes underground again.
lure it into water and perma freeze it
I really want additional content in 4, there’s not much game left when you get some of the big game changing upgrades, and no matter how you tackle it, there’s basically always a set of upgrades that are just useless because the game is over.
I've completely forgotten how to dandori since Pikmin 3 Deluxe. I get the low Pikmin limit at the beginning. Sometimes I wish there's a new game plus mode where you can start with 100 Pikmin limit and speed gather everything in a few days.
might seem daunting but nothing early on requires that many pikmin
10 ice can freeze just about anything, and walls are already worn down
I've 100% Area 1 on my first playthrough.
"Kushnipo"
I hope we get a plushie of Moss. I grew pretty fond of Oatchi pretty far into Pikmin 4 but I still think Moss is a more charming character and she just has a more interesting design/personality overall.
Its cause she's got the dumpy
I ship them, don't ask
he simps for shepherd, though
can you change him?
DLC where Shepherd gets plapped by Shacho and Dingo plunges into a depression over it
DLC where Dingo gets plapped by Shacho and Shepherd plungez into a depression over it
The continuation
Is he gonna eat him?
This person draws a huge amount of Louie x Alph
is alph's only defining character trait the fact that he tastes the best?
you don't have to check EVERY cave since some of them don't have structures at all, but yes that sidequest is easily the worst one in the game. it's like they were trying to punish anyone who thought they could be cheeky and be a little faster by skipping one
you could just be a regular old sperg, the symptoms of autism and schizoid disorder are eerily similar
i was losing my fricking mind and barely finished that run a few hours before pikmin 4 leaked. i'll do p1 deathless whenever my mental state recuperates and i can stomach losing one pikmin to beady and resetting multiple times in a row
Cringe, Louie is straight
Koppai > Hotate
There, I've said it
"winged pikmin had better pathfinding in pickman twee!!11#$!!"
winged pikmin pathfinding in pikmin 3:
ban this poster immediately
you're literally bad at the game
ok mr. "dandori issue", feel free to post your personal pikmin 1 and 2 low day records and then tell me i'm bad at the game :3
your first mistake was taking anything on r*ddit even remotely seriously
>Lost Pikmin: 20
you didn't beat the game
What's the point of flying pikmin if they can still get stuck on things like this? I hate winged pikmin so much, bros.
>slow
>awful fighters
>will literally fly to objects you're not targeting when you throw them just because they feel like it
They're just the worst.
If they could just go wherever as they pleased they'd be stupidly broken
No, if they could just go wherever as they pleased it would actually balance how fricking slow and shitty they are all the time.
Most overrated Pikmin type by far. It feels like you need to tard wrangle them even more than other Pikmin types in 3, for basically no payoff aside from when you have to use them. They just suck ass and their design is bad to boot.
*hocotate
Koppai people have no long term planning skills and they all have Louie's eating habits. Its no wonder their planet was in a good crisis
*food
>propagate pikmin on pnf 404 using pellet posies and wildlife
>haul onion back to koppai
>juice the pikmin
>take onion back to pnf 404
>repeat
So the surface is basically just a giant tutorial? And the caves/dandori is the actual game with "challenge"
Spread oatchi's abilities across 3 captains instead of 1 super unit, bring back c-stick (dog is ok but i like the idea of dandori maxing by managing 3 dudes)
let everyone use bomb rocks
Here is MY idea to fix pikmin 4
Super spicy mode:
>50 pikmin, you start with 20 and fralics upgrade by 3~5 until 50
>dog and you die in 1 hit, upgrades die to 2,3
>if dog dies, he is out for the whole day
>day resets every item and enemy to their original location, including caves which resets literally eveyrthing if you dont complete in one go.
>you cannot swap/refresh pikmin midday, you gotta farm them if they die
>every consumable cost 200 gems now and has a cap of 2 limit and every player upgrade cost 1000.
>dog rush/damage is basically removed entirely
>dog upgrades cost way more and are limited and you need to devote to lines in a specific playthrough to get him specialized. Rush/damage line is removed
>ice pikmin no longer freeze, it just slow enemies down.
>if you don't bring a treasure/rescue in a single day, you lose gems, if you die, you lose all your gems.
>onion backup pikmin cap is 20 per type.
nothing needs fixing
>every consumable cost 200 gems now and has a cap of 2 limit and every player upgrade cost 1000.
>if you don't bring a treasure/rescue in a single day, you lose gems, if you die, you lose all your gems
This sounds miserable even by challenge run standards. Unless you drastically increase the number of gems available, it basically makes the challenge "collect 1 treasure and farm every gem in the area then repeat on the next day with a different treasure."
Yeah, a much better solution would give the player only the elementals upgrades and the charge one. That's it. Remove all of the other stuff.
How about no elemental upgrades so you have to dandori your pikmin better instead of bypassing elemental hazards with OPtchi?
Yeah, just give the player the charge from the beginning and that's it. Eventually, though, Olimar and Louie do find upgrades for hazards, maybe it could be done for the main character and not for Oatchi.
I think the problem for me is that they just become available too quickly and it's easy to buy all of them so close to the start of the game that it feels dumb to even make you buy them. A hard mode playthrough should AT LEAST space them out so you don't get them all right away, maybe make them cost more so you have to really weigh the benefits of each upgrade instead of just buying everything immediately.
The best series
>missed a structure
>no way to check structures from hub
>also the structure might be in some random fricking cave
FRICK OFF
>didn't know about this quest beforehand
>skip a bridge in one cave because you finish the floor before even getting to it
>get quest and have to go back and check EVERY FLOOR OF EVERY CAVE UNTIL I FIND IT just to 100%
>not autisming grabbing every enemy and crystal and building everything by default just because you can
Dandori issue tbh
obviously i thought i did
i only missed one
I didn't need the bridge and I didn't build it so I could keep the material, literally the opposite of a dandori issue
wasted 4 in-game days on this shit WITH a guide telling me every cave building location
I hate all I see is a dick and balls from behind when I see it's face.
white pikmin in oblivion
I do like how you can get blue Pikmin in Area 1 if you're smart about it.
I liked assembling the treasures and seeing the completed series, I thought that was a cool addition
Olimar feels really bad to play in Smash Ultimate. Only 3 Pikmin out at once is garbage.
I actually quite like how Olimar plays
3 Pikmin is perfectly fine, Brawl's 6 was absurd
His issues in Smash are the following:
>Lack of voice, normies need to hear his deep ass monotone
>Stop the Sakurai headcanon and give him his 3/4 suit design
>Playstyle is a bit too campy and boring
>Why does Alph have the Hocotate Ship in his Final Smash instead of the Drake
i really don't think you should integrate any more pikmin in his moveset he's complex enough as is
i'd make his recovery his jetpack from Hey! Pikmin just to keep him to Pikmin from 1/2, another pikmin character could use the other types
6 pikmin olimar was absurdly broken and only didn't break the game cause brawl was already so busted
6 was broken but 3 is too little, it's a complete nerf to Olimar's best brawl feature which is latch damage and pummeling. Buff it to 4 and increase the super frames on Olimar's whistle.
MORE super armor on his whistle?!
Give it an additional frame
He pops them out so quickly it hardly feels like a disadvantage at all.
>All of the NPCs/Castaways names are references to dog breeds
>MFW none of them reference the kind of dog you have
The frick dog is Yonny
>Yonny
>Yawny
>Dogs yawn a lot
Papillon
>Yonny’s name connection makes more sense in Japanese as their name is “パピヨン” or Papiyon
>Named my Rookie Dash after the Daschund we used to have years ago
>Daschunds are also known to delve into burrows to flush out prey.
That dog still putting a smile on my face
😐
Is he gonna be okay
no.
>Louie and the blue Pikmin staring at him
Comedy gold
I've been imagining Louie just swallowing up enemies like Moss and Oatchi swallow up treasures.
filled with Juice
So the time line is Shipwreck tale is 1, Olimar getting LEAF'd pushes back the events of 2. and 3 is on the verge of happening. This means that the events of 2, and 3 will probably be happening at the same time. is Miyamoto a crazy enough dude to make Pikmin 5, Pikmin 2+3?
i don't like this timeline, because Louie fricking over the company while Olimar was gone caused the events of pikmin 2, and Louie can't frick over the company if he's on PNF 404.
I would assume that it were to happen in some mission afterwards.
Why would the koppais send a scouting party to PNF-404 if they have already explored it and presumably seen the juice.
The ones who've seen the juice were raped and killed by Louie
>forgetting when Nelle told the Rescue Corps to let her have a talk with Louie and not to untie him
Is Pikmin going to be like Starfox where it gets rebooted every three entries or so? What the hell is wrong with Miyamoto?
Miyamoto hates consistent story and lore. On the one hand, I understand that gameplay and fun should come before everything else. On the other hand, going out of your way to intentionally retcon and reboot and sabotage any semblance of a coherent timeline of events is really dumb. Miyamoto has good intentions but he's too stubborn about certain things.
>Is Pikmin going to be like Starfox
no because we're still getting games
It is then revealed Louie ate that universe's equivalent of Hocotate and Olimar loses it at the realization that Louie killed his counterpart family amd makes him sit in the corner with no food on the trip back through the dimensional warp.
>barely began playing Pikmin 2
>the cave chanting is already on repeat in my head
that's because there's nothing of value around you anon.
>game is called pikemen
>have legion of men
>they dont have pikes
>Pikes should take a Hike
-Shigeru Miyamoto
Have you ever tried to use a turbo controller to throw pikmin faster using the swarm trick on 1 and 2?
Every third party Gamecube controller is an absolute travesty, is that feature kept in the switch versions?
Yes, you need to hold L, I was thinking about that HORI controller with buttons behind the controller handles. It has turbo, but it doesn't have the motion control for finer movements (mostly used for smashing dwarves bulbmin though).
So, I was thinking about using right handle button for turbo throwing and the left for L (swarm). It's hard to pull it on a standard controller and it wouldn't be cheating, since it's an official/licensed product.
Is the Pikmin maneuvering with the funny trumpet only in Olimar's story?
you get the ability after the final cave.
>get an ability after you've already 100%'d the game
>there's no NG+
For what purpose? Why would they do this?
i think they honestly thought people would move on from each area without 100%ing them, it's the instrument side quest reward.
Pretty sure that you get it after you beat the Olimar mode and beat the final boss. At that point, though, it's useless.
Please no. As someone who wear glasses, I fricking hate blur as they are what I see 24/7 without them.
They should've kept the motion blur, at least, I think that's what gave us this dream-like feeling. Majora's Mask had the same effect, specially before the Majora's fight in that pocket dimension with a tree.
What do you mean? Take a look at the GC version, it feels more like a dream than a "real thing" like the Switch version, since it's so sharp and it's running at 60FPS without any motion blur.
>Pikmin it usually has more to do with hardware limitations than any attempt by the developers to evoke actual dreamlike feelings.
and?
Yup, this is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.
Also, I forgot to say that you are oversimplifying everything because you are obviously so smart that you can see what no one else can. Right? The devil is in the details.
>you are obviously so smart that you can see what no one else can. Right?
Thanks for the compliment, but no, that's not what I'm trying to say at all.
riiiight
>What do you mean? Take a look at the GC version, it feels more like a dream than a "real thing"
Reviews for Pikmin in 2001 praised it for its realism
I think you're applying too much of a modern viewpoint to this, no one thought Pikmin looked like a dream when it released
We had no definition of "realism" back then, it just meant "better graphics" in general. It obviously felt more realist when you were coming from N64. Even Sonic Adventure was praised for its realism.
They should've kept the CRT color gamut and the motion blur, I think that with that they could've achieve a visual comparable to the older ones, that would've been a good translation.
>muh dream like visuals
I want to go back in time and abort whoever popularized this term.
Good, I pre-ordered the physical versions 1 and 2 specifically because the blur on 1 is fricking horrendous and I want it gone. It gives me motion sickness. 2 GC isn't so bad but 1 is genuinely unplayable.
please don't develop games
wow you are so cool coldsteel
this response doesn't even make sense, how is the post you're replying to trying to be edgy? you're just moronic
wow coldsteel, calm down
>throw cursor blocks the number of pikmin you need to throw at an object
Fricking why
I've only played 1 and 3 I only come to these threads for moss.
And now, my thoughts on every sage leaf trial. I did not aim for platinums nor did I retry for better ranks, I merely wanted to complete them
>Bulblaxes
Bronze. Admittedly took my sweet time for an otherwise easy challenge
>Snow Problem
Bronze. The problem is that the pikmin holding the pine comes don’t always follow you after throwing one. Had to reset once because for some reason they refused to move no matter what. First hard challenge for me
>Dig Deep
Bronze. Relatively challenging but it’s easy to form a plan. If they kept white pikmin’s hidden treasure digging ability this would’ve been a much harder challenge
>Dandori Seas
Silver. Oddly easy. Not really much else to say
>The White Key
Bronze. Also pretty easy. Probably the only time winged pikmin come in clutch. I think a cooler idea for this challenge would be to clear out Arachnodes to a clear a path for them
>Gimmick Gambit
Platinum. I didn’t actually feel like doing the challenge so I did that speedrun exploit that let’s you skip the whole thing
>One Fell Jump
Gold. I can see why the lock on would be annoying here but otherwise not horrible. Problem is Shearfleas sniping my pikmin when I lose track of them
>Crowded Kitchen
Bronze. This one took me the longest and fricked me up. Cannot possibly imagine doing this one platinum, the Dandori skills you need for this one are insane. I hate gathering gold so much
>Turf Turmoil
Silver. Just a basic boss rush, also nothing worth noting
>The Purple Key
Open up the shortcuts with the purples first.
kys
Give me three reasons to finish Pikmin 2
Well, Wistful Wild has some really nice music, for starters.
And as for the other reasons, uhhhhhh, hmmm....well, uhh.......
Because if you don't you won't experience the Dream Den and Hole of Heroes and collecting the Doomsday Apparatus
Good as frick ending
Good as frick boss fight
Good as frick game
One must imagine the Pikmin happy.
the short movies are genuinely some of my favorite excerpts of 3D animation ever
i'd kill for a full length pikmin movie that's just silent antics like occupational hazards for 2 hours
>reboot the story
>Call it pikmin 4
I'm still mad
It's not a reboot, moron.
Pikmin 4 just takes place between Pikmin 1 and 2, they simply retconned a few thing in Pikmin 1, Pikmin 2 and 3 still happen after the events of 4.
Certain teases involving Olimar's Son and his dog Bulbie suggest that Pikmin 5 will take place after Pikmin 3.
Cavern fit for a king is lame final dungeon
Boss rushes suck ass in this franchise
why
You got literally 100 other normal caves
let people have a boss rush
I'm honestly glad it was a boss rush instead of having enemies everywhere in true Pikmin 2 fashion
Is the Empress Bulblax room going to being Gen Alpha's equivalent of pic related? That had to be the most bullshit thing in the entire franchise
I mean look at this, what the frick were they thinking. When I played Oatchi got stuck on the damn geyser at least half a dozen times, the collision is awful
man, I legit turn into Carl and said "We aint doing this" And just summoned fricking lightning while my Purples went to work
>throws ten mines
>Every other cave in the game is pretty relaxed and short
>Final cave is a 20 floor gauntlet with some borderline kaizo romhack shit like this room and double Waterwraiths
The pikmin 2 devs didn't play test this room
its been a fricking decade since ive played pikmin 2 and i felt my blood pressure spike looking at this
It's not lame because it's a boss rush.
>None of pikmin 4's original bosses were good
bless this dude for bringing some actual music to this game
>raging long legs but with a musical gimmick and ecstasy gas
>Sovereign blublax was OK because they recycled the sinking sand mechanic from the quaggled mireclops fight.
Did they? I fed him a bomb rock and deleted him during the stun like every other Sovreign in the game.
Will we ever play as the president again?
?t=80
I just realized the joke of the name PNF-404 is Planet Not Found: 404 like the HTML error.
Yes, Hocotate is the street used to be or something like that. The game is full of these easte eggs.
Yep didn't occur to me until a few weeks before 4's release. Made me wonder about a whole bunch of schizo theories on the nature of the PNF-404 name-meaning.
They really went hard on that name this game
According to the castaway dialogue, space has already been fully mapped and explored...except obviously the pikmin planet.
Thus none of them even considered the possibility that PNF-404 is NOT the name of the planet, and that they are on a nameless planet and given a return error.
And the Geiger counter from 1 implies it's because the planet is completely bombarded with radiation. Which might be why ships keep crashing there all the time.
>walk into the sirehound fight with no yellows and reds because I didn't want to give up my purples, whites, blues and ice because they've been important all dungeon long
>it doesn't even have a water or poison phase and the ice phase is the only phase that you don't exploitly need the elemental pikmin (or oatchi upgrade)
Ok
What would a water phase be? He just spits at you?
It would involve leg lifting
Why do you think Moss was sick when Olimar found her
abandoned by whoever her previous leader was until she learned the proper ways of being a captain through olimar, which was why she was able to lead the pikmin on her own in the end
just finished the p3dx olimar side stories for the first time, why in the name of fricking god is there this cloying cutesy w*man singing alongside the pikmin at the end. i couldn't even see the cutscene in yuzu so i had no idea what the frick was happening
I was honestly surprised they didn't bring her back for 4. Super Kirby Clash also had a song with vocals, which turned out to be a sort of test in the waters for Forgotten Land's main theme.
i would've been surprised if they did but i'm glad they chose not to bring back babi or whatever the frick their name ist, i will never tolerate english vocals in pikmin music if they aren't part of a strawberry flower song. what a fricking disgrace
also the side stories themselves were about as middling as everyone made them out to be, although it bothers me that eighting actually recolored baldy long legs to look like beady here, but they didn't do it in p4 where they doubled down even harder on pikmin 1 and 2 fanservice. baffling
1. louie 🙂
2. cavern of chaos floor 8
3. the ending cutscene is still my favorite in the series
>3. the ending cutscene is still my favorite in the series
For me, it's the credits for 3.
The singing pikmin are pure SOVL
p3's credits are comfy, sure, and i like getting to watch the pikmin just chill without any captains around, but i always thought the singing pikmin were a little too saccharine tbh. then again i didn't know about the singing in olimar's comeback until 30 minutes ago
2's 100% ending just feels magical to me (so does pikmin 1's, love that credits music), and it still feels bittersweet knowing that was the last time we saw olimar and louie for nearly 10 years, even though we've had two games since. also the fakeout after you pay off the debt immediately followed by louie fricking around during the credits is so good that pikmin 4 tried to replicate it, even though it didn't do it as well
>acts like he's hot shit but sits on his ass back at base camp while (You) go out and do all of the actual work
>simps for shepherd
>ditched bernard to save his own ass and acts really weird about it even after you cure him
>only exists to serve as the game's super guide stand-in for plebs, which is embarrassing considering none of the dandori missions or night missions are THAT difficult
>just kind of a douchebag in general
god all of the rescue corps fricking suck, in a way i can appreciate that they all have character flaws but they didn't do a particularly great job of making any of them actually interesting or likable. also i looked up "bernard dingo" and people are already writing gay fanfics featuring them, fricking lol
>named my rookie Dash
anon...
Moss and Otchin are awesome.
Are there enough points to go around that you can fully upgrade all of Oatchi's skills?
Shep raises a good point, why DIDN'T Collin tell us about d-pad shortcuts sooner? That smoothes things out so much
Yes, but you'll have to rescue everyone.
you have to rescue literally everyone
this game needs a ng+ badly
Damn Dalmo looks like THIS???
the sane, questionably functional part of my brain hates dalmo and this image by extension, but the part of my brain with a parasitic infection and a crippling femboy addiction thinks he looks kind of cute. why. for what purpose
He just wants to cuddle bro.
Yea he wants cuddles...as well as his fat ass pumped full of cum
Same
...but his piklopedia entries fricking SUCK :/
I like them, it's a completely casual observation of the creatures rather than Olimar's scientific research.
the cloying "d'awww wook at the heckin cutesy wutesy snooky wooky pweicous widdle mufferino!! i wanna have its babies!!" redditspeak is why i don't like them and it's his only character trait lol. i do mostly like the olimar and louie notes so i guess that counts for something, even if a lot of them are reused from pikmin 2
So Pikmin 4 is actually a good game?
I only played 1 and 2, I liked both of them for different reasons. Never touched 3 for some reason.
Why the frick is Collin the only non-gay, non-trans, non-black character in this fricking game? GC era characters not included
dingo isn't either, but he acts onions filled so I can see why he doesn't count
What Pikmin type from Pikmin 4 is your favorite?
blue rock white
>Vore
I still don't understand if that was supposed to be the actual implication of that comic or not
It's just a joke. Originally it was conviction. Some colors don't exist in Undertale.
Red pink and probably glow for me. The cutest of the Pikkers.
