I would really recommend using Ryujinx instead. More accurate and doesn’t memory leak like Yuzu.
You should only use Yuzu if your PC isn’t strong enough for Ryujinx or a game just doesn’t work.

iirc the only out-of-bounds glitch in low-day pikmin 1 runs is the bulbear clip you need to do to get the chronos reactor quickly and it's honestly not that bad, it usually only takes me a few attempts. there aren't really that many glitches or exploits you need to do, it's just insanely tight routing and execution with very little room for error

i've gotten pretty consistent at that acb wall bombrock exploit, it's just growing 50+ pikmin and actually doing everything without wasting time in 1 day foh that's absolutely fricking miserable. i can never seem to get more than 4 parts in a day there no matter what route i take through it, going to try doing distant spring in 1 day first since that's apparently the easiest for some reason
The intro cutscene is a brief re-telling of Pikmin 1's intro, except this time Olimar meets the green dog. The demo is Olimar exploring and searching for ship parts.

Could someone explain the appeal of Pikmins gameplay to me? I haven't played it before, but I'm interested in it since the aesthetics and art are so appealing.
Pikmin 1 is a very tight RTS game.
You quickly get on a roll, with pikmin. And you start multitasking by splitting up you pikmin. Then as the day progresses everything accumulates, your tasks are done.
Its like a small rube goldberg machine (daily) that makoes a big rube goldberg machine (the area you are in). Before you know it, the area is conquered . And you just feel good.
There is just enough jank with how pikmin move that you can't get full of yourself. An accident will happen, and that accident will hurt. But you get back up
It's also charming with olimar talking about things.
Pikmin 2, took a different approach being a dungeon crawler (Small rube goldberg machine) but the feeling is still there
Pikmin 3, in VS mode can have this feeling the most. When you got 2 people to really try.
While the story mode has these split captain 3 way set pieces sometimes. But it is a way calmer game.
That feeling you get when you go in and think >Alright let me get 4 parts today
and then you space out the bomb rocks, breaking walls, killing enemies to clear a way. IF you succed you feel great
Then when the game is over you go >I know I can do this faster
and maybe playthrough pikmin 1 you did 20 days.

It becomes almost arcadie
Fun, cute and charming aesthetics juxtaposed by absolutely horrific Pikmin massacres when you mess up and see a whole pile of them killed at once.
The games are a product of the old school Nintendo "look at the world, or childlike memories and imagine how that could be a game" design style that brought us things like Pokemon, Zelda, Earthbound or (not Nintendo) Katamari, so they're absolutely bursting with SOVL and charm. They're not too hard, but 1 and 2 particularly will throw curveballs at you, or just the way Pikmin act, that will keep you on your toes. They're not too long either, so you don't need to invest weeks and weeks of your life, unless you want to come back and do more or better.
They're an absolutely amazing idea for RTS on consoles imo. In terms of playing them, I always recommend 3 as a starting point, since it's by far the most approachable. But the 1+2 bundle is decent value and a solid port if you want to start with the original.
There's a demo out for 4 right now, so that might be the best way to dip your toes in though.
It's Zelda meets Starcraft. The different types of Pikmin are there to help you explore different areas, solve puzzles, defeat enemies, and to make more Pikmin. Each game has you also collect items for some objective like the 30 ship parts in Pikmin 1.
Character based rts where you multiply alien carrots into a swarm to tackle nightmares of a post apocalyptic giants earth. The birds live underground. Spiders like to stomp and you can only whistle as your army drowns and burns.
Salvage your ship from the walking fish with an auto canon before the toxic atmosphere kills you and the creatures of the night mercilessly hunt your remaining forces that never got to safety.

I have never played Co-Op Pikmin, I don't have anyone to play it with.
But it's an absolutely baffling exclusion to not have it here. It has to be a technical limitations thing, because it's crazy that they had Co-Op campaign in 3D, but not in 4. The Mario Galaxy style Co-Op is a huge step down.

So in the demo you collect the SOS radio from the first game, which activates, but it takes over a month for the signal to reach Hocotate. A rescue party responds and goes to the planet weeks later, and they also crash.
So yeah this is a timeline where Olimar ran out of oxygen and failed to escape in 30 days

I lost interest with the dog. It's the laziest way to add to a series. Yoshi gets Poochy. Luigi gets Polterpup. Even Isabelle is a fricking dog. I'm surprised Super Mario Wonder didn't introduce a new dog that looks completely different from Poochy.

If you mean the dialogue prompts that pause gameplay when your Pikmin/Oatchi are in distress, look up the recently cropping up Pikmin 1 fails compilations to see all of the newbies just standing around thinking their Pikmin are going for a little swim, or glowing a bit brighter, or ignoring all sound cues like a bomb rock cracking and landing next to their army.
The demo is outstanding but the other captains talk way, way too much. It's annoying. Fortunately they added in a skip button, a feature whose absence you absolutely feel on any replay of 2

So, that Sheppard breed dog found by Olimar in the beginning is has a leaf tail, so I guess he was "Pikminized" too. That implies that someone was also in the planet before, someone that had that dog breed and the Pikmins were merciful to it, transforming him into a Pikmin hybrid, like Olimar.
The dog is actually Oatchi after traveling back in time to "save" Olimar. Oatchi then lures Olimar to the house so he can send out the rescue signal to Oatchi's past self and repeat the process. Oatchi is the key to all of this.
So, what's the appeal of this game?
I decided to give the demo a try since it features Olimar from Smash Bros, but so far it looks like you just throw the pikmen at shit and then just watch shit happen with minimal intervention. Where's the fun in that?

I despised 3's onion design. It made the thing look artificial and mechanical as opposed to a naturally occurring thing. 4's onion doesn't blow me away in terms of design, but it's decent.

I thought Ganker was b***hing and I'd like Oatchi. What's the fricking point of the Pikmin if he can do everything? Sure he can only lift 3 now but he gets bigger AND you can jump with him.
The point of Oatchi is to fill gaps in your pikmin lineup to help you solve obstacles more organically than needing you to go switch up your lineup in the moment, leading to less downtime in the gameplay.
Streamlining controls and ensuring relative party balance, as you can't meaningfully divide your 100 max pikmin evenly between more than 5 types, and they likely want you to maintain an abundance of each type you bring to tackle specific obstacles, like by having 20+ weight objects on high ledges for example. We'll need to see the whole game to really know if they capitalize on this but that feels like the idea.

with the system 3 and 4 uses, it's really not. you just hit l/r to select them, you don't need to start throwing then hit R, then hope the pikmin don't move like in 1/2. in fact iirc you won't even throw your next type unless you select a new one.

You know, this new direction for the plot makes a lot of sense considering how they tied up the cliffhangers in Pikmin 3 Deluxe. The original Pikmin 3 had a bonus log if you collected all the fruit that said that Louie seemed to be left behind again, and then there was that mysterious falling object that landed on the planet. Deluxe then completely invalidates them both by saying "No Louie made it back to Hocotate" and having that shooting star actually be Olimar and Louie's return shuttle. Something tells me the original Pikmin 4 that was "close to completion" a decade ago was an actual follow-up to 3, and when 4's development decided to go in a new direction they made the changes in 3 Deluxe to tie everything up with a nice little bow.
I just beat Pikmin 1 last night and was pleasantly surprised by it. I can tell it was an experimental game made by a small team, it plays clunky and it's a challenge to get the pikmin to do what you want them to do, but that's all apart of the charm of it. Narrowly beat it right on day30.
I'm looking forward to playing Pikmin 2. I'm eager to see what they do and if they made it any easier to pick out specific pikmin to throw and managing bomb-wielding yellow pikmin in general (their behavior to drop their bomb when you whistle at them makes no sense whatsoever. There is never a single time when this is beneficial. )

there are specific instances where the gamecube version's bombrock behavior is beneficial, namely bringing down walls really fast (if you can throw multiple yellows at once and whistle them back in time) and stunning emperor bulblax with 15 bombrocks at once. you have to physically touch yellows holding bombs to add them to your squad instead of whistling them, the wii and switch ports have less punishing bombrock behavior but you can't do either of the things i just mentioned

I took, am a 9-day Chad. Ive seen the 6-day run but I haven't learned the out of bounds glitches for it
iirc the only out-of-bounds glitch in low-day pikmin 1 runs is the bulbear clip you need to do to get the chronos reactor quickly and it's honestly not that bad, it usually only takes me a few attempts. there aren't really that many glitches or exploits you need to do, it's just insanely tight routing and execution with very little room for error

For the 6-day (one day per area) there's some really tricky shit you gotta do with the bombs (forest of hope with no blues for instance) as well as the oob in distant spring you mentioned
i've gotten pretty consistent at that acb wall bombrock exploit, it's just growing 50+ pikmin and actually doing everything without wasting time in 1 day foh that's absolutely fricking miserable. i can never seem to get more than 4 parts in a day there no matter what route i take through it, going to try doing distant spring in 1 day first since that's apparently the easiest for some reason

Pikmin 1 is a very tight RTS game.
You quickly get on a roll, with pikmin. And you start multitasking by splitting up you pikmin. Then as the day progresses everything accumulates, your tasks are done.
Its like a small rube goldberg machine (daily) that makoes a big rube goldberg machine (the area you are in). Before you know it, the area is conquered . And you just feel good.
There is just enough jank with how pikmin move that you can't get full of yourself. An accident will happen, and that accident will hurt. But you get back up
It's also charming with olimar talking about things.
Pikmin 2, took a different approach being a dungeon crawler (Small rube goldberg machine) but the feeling is still there
Pikmin 3, in VS mode can have this feeling the most. When you got 2 people to really try.
While the story mode has these split captain 3 way set pieces sometimes. But it is a way calmer game.

Fun, cute and charming aesthetics juxtaposed by absolutely horrific Pikmin massacres when you mess up and see a whole pile of them killed at once.
The games are a product of the old school Nintendo "look at the world, or childlike memories and imagine how that could be a game" design style that brought us things like Pokemon, Zelda, Earthbound or (not Nintendo) Katamari, so they're absolutely bursting with SOVL and charm. They're not too hard, but 1 and 2 particularly will throw curveballs at you, or just the way Pikmin act, that will keep you on your toes. They're not too long either, so you don't need to invest weeks and weeks of your life, unless you want to come back and do more or better.
They're an absolutely amazing idea for RTS on consoles imo. In terms of playing them, I always recommend 3 as a starting point, since it's by far the most approachable. But the 1+2 bundle is decent value and a solid port if you want to start with the original.
There's a demo out for 4 right now, so that might be the best way to dip your toes in though.
It's Zelda meets Starcraft. The different types of Pikmin are there to help you explore different areas, solve puzzles, defeat enemies, and to make more Pikmin. Each game has you also collect items for some objective like the 30 ship parts in Pikmin 1.
Character based rts where you multiply alien carrots into a swarm to tackle nightmares of a post apocalyptic giants earth. The birds live underground. Spiders like to stomp and you can only whistle as your army drowns and burns.
Salvage your ship from the walking fish with an auto canon before the toxic atmosphere kills you and the creatures of the night mercilessly hunt your remaining forces that never got to safety.

Olimar's Chronos Reactor in pikmin 1 destroyed the planet and caused a rip in space-time. This created two separate timelines. One where Olimar escapes and unleashes an apocalypse on PNF-404 by depleting its oxygen and another where he fails to escape. This is why in Pikmin 2 and 3 Olimar is no longer worried about the oxygen. It also explains why the home is fully furnished in Pikmin 4, because he destroyed it in 1.
It's no coincidence the Chronos Reactor was found at the same location as the Submerged Castle in Pikmin 2.

So, that Sheppard breed dog found by Olimar in the beginning is has a leaf tail, so I guess he was "Pikminized" too. That implies that someone was also in the planet before, someone that had that dog breed and the Pikmins were merciful to it, transforming him into a Pikmin hybrid, like Olimar.

The dog is actually Oatchi after traveling back in time to "save" Olimar. Oatchi then lures Olimar to the house so he can send out the rescue signal to Oatchi's past self and repeat the process. Oatchi is the key to all of this.

The point of Oatchi is to fill gaps in your pikmin lineup to help you solve obstacles more organically than needing you to go switch up your lineup in the moment, leading to less downtime in the gameplay.

Streamlining controls and ensuring relative party balance, as you can't meaningfully divide your 100 max pikmin evenly between more than 5 types, and they likely want you to maintain an abundance of each type you bring to tackle specific obstacles, like by having 20+ weight objects on high ledges for example. We'll need to see the whole game to really know if they capitalize on this but that feels like the idea.

with the system 3 and 4 uses, it's really not. you just hit l/r to select them, you don't need to start throwing then hit R, then hope the pikmin don't move like in 1/2. in fact iirc you won't even throw your next type unless you select a new one.

You know, this new direction for the plot makes a lot of sense considering how they tied up the cliffhangers in Pikmin 3 Deluxe. The original Pikmin 3 had a bonus log if you collected all the fruit that said that Louie seemed to be left behind again, and then there was that mysterious falling object that landed on the planet. Deluxe then completely invalidates them both by saying "No Louie made it back to Hocotate" and having that shooting star actually be Olimar and Louie's return shuttle. Something tells me the original Pikmin 4 that was "close to completion" a decade ago was an actual follow-up to 3, and when 4's development decided to go in a new direction they made the changes in 3 Deluxe to tie everything up with a nice little bow.
I just beat Pikmin 1 last night and was pleasantly surprised by it. I can tell it was an experimental game made by a small team, it plays clunky and it's a challenge to get the pikmin to do what you want them to do, but that's all apart of the charm of it. Narrowly beat it right on day30.
I'm looking forward to playing Pikmin 2. I'm eager to see what they do and if they made it any easier to pick out specific pikmin to throw and managing bomb-wielding yellow pikmin in general (their behavior to drop their bomb when you whistle at them makes no sense whatsoever. there are specific instances where the gamecube version's bombrock behavior is beneficial, namely bringing down walls really fast (if you can throw multiple yellows at once and whistle them back in time) and stunning emperor bulblax with 15 bombrocks at once. you have to physically touch yellows holding bombs to add them to your squad instead of whistling them, the wii and switch ports have less punishing bombrock behavior but you can't do either of the things i just mentioned
