Ah the classic “just don’t use it”. I shouldn’t have to handicap myself because the main new mechanic of the game is genuinely imbalanced. >has very high damage resistance and hp and heals himself because why not? >good damage and can hit flying enemies, so he can solo pretty much any enemy >resists all hazards >can carry 100 weight objects and do it very fast due to swallowing >can stun lock 99% percent of enemies for your Pikmin to melt them before they can even look at you funny >can even have an infinite run by the end of the game
I wouldn’t even be surprised if the little shit could solo a smoky prog honestly
Self imposing challenges are better than a pre baked difficulty select that just jacks up enemy health. But you people are entirely too stubborn. Besides leading up to this games release any time someone said purples/bitter spray break 2 the response was always the same "just don't use them" but I guess that's okay because that game is 20 years old and "soul" or whatever.
Watch out anon, next he's probably gonna say that you have to farm for those even though the game shits out Bitter Spray like it ate some spoiled Taco Bell making farming it an idle affair, and the fact that you only need a few Purples in a squad in combination with the aforementioned abundant spray to make an enemy your b***h

>Purples are overturned in 2 and now 4. Okay I won’t use an entire Pikmin type just because I can’t! >sprays are overturned in 2 and 4 as well. The spicy spray Pikmin melts enemies at absurd rates. The bitter one completely trivialises any enemy too. Okay I won’t use them either
It’s not my job to decide the difficulty of the game, that’s the developers job and if I’m having to to dumb shit like forcefully tell my self to not use things then that’s a failure of the game. These games are laughably easy and no challenge you can conceive will fix that.
The thing is the game is full of broken shit >oatchi was already explained >ice pikmin will freeze nearly every enemy ensuring a 1 cycle >purple pikmin are busted again >rock pikmin are really strong while wing pikmin let you ignore the terrain >ultra spice is incredibly common to where you'll probably end with 30+ even if you use them semi frequently >all the other items are easily accessible and decimate just about every enemy
So doing self-imposed means you're leaving well over half of the game on the table to ignore. And while I'm not one clamoring for Pikmin to be hard, half of your mechanics shouldn't trivialize the entire package. I want to play Pikmin 4, not Pikmin 1.5.

Literally all of the sequels have been pikmin 1.2, 1.3 etc. I just want a pikmin 2

Pikmin 2 is very different. Caves are a completely different style of gameplay from the overworld puzzle strategy gameplay and they're most of the game.

>Pikmin 2 is very different
Not really dude. Pikmin 1 was insane just how unique it was. 2? Nah. The caves are all worse too, I actually quit the game at the time because of the lack of time limit and only recently came back to it.

>The caves are all worse too
They are
It's a worse game but it's worse because the gameplay is totally different
Pikmin 1 = puzzle strategy multitasking
Pikmin 2 = combat and trying to keep your squad alive
Same engine and gameplay but feel totally different to play

>because the gameplay is totally different
You really have not played many games if you think it's "totally" different.

You're missing the point
Level design has just as much influence as mechanics
You would have to be stupid to not realize that a different design philosophy can give a game a whole different feel.
exactly, all those complaints are moronic as by the time you unlock all of them, you have 100% beaten the game already
but sitll, even without the upgrades, oatchi makes the game easy by carrying all pikmin on its back, significantly reducing the difficulty of managing your pikmin
I think he could keep working but I want some of his abilities to be cut back, so you have more reason to not be constantly riding him outside of Dandori Challenges
Maybe make it so he can only have Pikmin on his back for so long, and charging into an enemy causes pikmin to drop and charge regularly instead of all flinging onto the enemy at once.
I do actually like you can jump with him though, it made traversal feel more fun.
They could also go the route of future Mario games where Yoshi's much less prevalent. Make his mechanics come back in the form of bigger Bulbmin, like the og design concept, that can only be found and used in certain areas.
>Maybe make it so he can only have Pikmin on his back for so long, and charging into an enemy causes pikmin to drop and charge regularly instead of all flinging onto the enemy at once
this would be unfun and annoying. i like being able to ride him everywhere
I personally like busting games wide open, it's fun to abuse the tools the game gives you. I also like treating Oatchi as a second captain due to his ability to throw Pikmin.
I basically never used Oatchi's pikmin throwing. Mostly because it feels good to ride Oatchi, and also because most of the game's mechanics focus on Oatchi going solo if he is on his own.
Is it possible to leave glownigs with Oatchi as backup during the split night missions? Not that the night missions ever get hard enough to justify it.
Nope, glow pikmin will teleport to the active captain if you swap captains. Though there is merit to giving Oatchi pikmin during the day since he can throw pikmin at tasks along the way to an item he’s going to carry while your captain is walking somewhere else.
I'm waiting until he's modded out of the game before downloading it. It seems the vast majority of the issues I have w/what I've heard are caused by the dog. Has anyone modded auto auto lock on for throw pikmin yet?
I just don't like how he takes the spotlight from, y'know, the games' namesake. 4 completely removed any of the aspect of 1/2 of actually controlling/manipulating a squad of 100 dudes. Now they're just ammo that sit on Oatchi. I also do not really like his design (I REALLY don't like Moss's design too).
That's the thing, it wouldn't be. And that's the problem. Yeah adding a fricking marketable dog they can sell merchandise of and have normies squee over made the game sell more. But not only does the dog somewhat dumb down the game, it takes away from the Pikmin. Which I do not like, speaking as a hardcore fan. Olimar will no loner be depicted with just the Pikmin but this ugly ass ill-fitting dog.
Oatchi is TOLERABLE but I do not like Moss at all. I hate the color palette. She and Oatchi should've looked more like an overgrown Bulbie.

weird, i still think oatchi's heckin' marketable doggo design sucks but i hate moss less, i don't know why. maybe the homophobic stare thing is just inherently funny

For me I feel the opposite about Moss, I love that teal green/blue combo.

Moss is gigabased, the gross colors and tired eyes are great, she fits right in with the weird creature design of things like Bulborbs and Wollywogs. Oatchi is too cute, it looks more like a Mario character.
I'd like him if you didn't ride him but he was just your autistic dog that can carry objects and attack stuff.
But he's a product of the iconic Nintendo cycle of >Have a game with PERFECT controls (sometimes also a sequel) >Somewhere down the line completely butcher said controls (accompanied by making it way way easier) >try to fix this by making radical changes that make it play like a game from a different genre
Name almost any Nintendo franchise and they've done this to it. Smash is an exception cause Sakurai was such a dominant project lead but you can bet your ass it will happen should they make one without him.
Do enemies respawn in Pikmin 1? I'm playing through all of them right now and I never noticed enemies respawning in 1. I know they respawn in 2 though. Since 4 doesn't have a day limit it'd probably be better to take the 2 approach so it's surprising it doesn't.
Enemies respawn in 1 at certain amounts of time. And new enemies spawn in as well, like Goolix and Mamuta spawning after certain amount of time passes in the starting area.
>dandori the frick out of engulfed castle, deathless and all treasures >literally don't see bubble buddy until the boss floor >stunlock and grape him to death like the good ol' days
So what happens if I bring purples into that cave later? Can I kill him on every floor for materials or does he just stay dead for good if killed on a previous floor?

Yep, you can only bring blues in, like you can only bring reds into the stove dungeon.
GCN if you're willing to use regular controls, Wii if you want pointer aiming. The Switch versions require to hold whistle or throw to motion aim, and even if you're okay with it, moving still moves your aim, even as you're using motion aim.
GCN version of Pikmin 1 doesn't let you cycle between Pikmin types. You just have to throw whatever's closest to you. For that reason alone I'd recommend any other version.
I beat this game 100% a week back but I want to play it again so bad. What self imposing challenges could work that actually provide difficulty?
Perhaps not Onions/Flarlic, No items, No Upgrades, No Rewinds? Idk... I actually want to use some of the things I didn't last playthrough.
I was testing this out for a bit, and man the early game is a slog, I wish you could get the other types faster, went to Blossoming Day 3 (which I think you can only do by re-entering caves I think, there's literally around only 1450 if you get every possible treasure before unless I'm missing something), then did that one cave with the Puffy Blowhog and since you have Ice Pikmin you can just insta kill it. The thing is though the Caves and especially Dandori challenges are unchanging, and the Battles are basically the same until I would get outleveled by upgrades. Idk really, I hope this game gets DLC or something like 3, but I can play that DLC repeatedly.
Why does this game series with mechanics barely or not replicated elsewhere stimulate my autismogay brain so much? Ah.
Is there any good reason to do the night missions after rescuing Olimar? I've kind of just been letting Leaflings pile up at the base because I can't be bothered with them.

Glow Seeds are OP get like 100 for the final cave (I mean, unless you are like not a pussy haha)
So there's a lot of talk that our character's races are evolutionary offshoots from a human diaspora.
Does anyone have any theories for why there's a bunch of cybernetic creatures?
>shigefumi hino, one of the main directors on the series up until 3, was also the creator of yoshi
does this mean all pikmin fans are FRICKING homosexualS by extension?
I think the original plan was to make Hocotatians comically deep voiced since they breathe a different atmosphere that’s presumably denser than air. But then you have the president, who throws that out the window completely.
I’m loving the game so far and feel like I’m ~75% complete. My one gripe is that it seems like they used several duplicates of the bolts and the automatic gears in Olimar’s tale. Why not model all the original parts from the first game?
Finally 100% the game, platinum all Dandori challenges, platinum all battles, platinum on all trials of sage leaf, all castaways rescued and cured, man what a great game.
I need to let it simmer a bit but it will be hard to argue between 2 and 4 being the best for me now. I think one small thing that could have helped was having maybe 1 more longer , traditional cave in the primordial thicket. As much as I enjoyed the boss rush and the final boss (Was not expecting ANY of that fight to be like that, crazy shit, the music, 6 FRICKING PHASES But I just wanted like a final challenge to put all the upgrades and shit to use. I suppose that's kind of what sage trials are for but I don't really have a desire to improve my times beyond platinum.
It just needed a separate long cave that had like 10 longer, more traditional floors.
The actual level design for dungeons, overworld not being an after thought, cute puzzles, and tons of content might beat 2 for me. The only thing I really don't like is only bringing 3 types and I know it doesn't matter because its designed around whatever pikmin are in that area but still I would've loved to have all of them at once just so I could see them all with my own eyes all out and about together
>daughter has blonde hair >Olimar, Olimom and Smallimar have brown and red hair >Olimom has a tendency to use his paychecks to go to beaches and spas alone without the kids
Oh no no no no no
Where the hell does it say that? I know Earth dogs are implied to have become whatever the hell Oatchi and Moss are, but when are humans ever mentioned?
Then it would be kinda like that book, Man after Man, with evolved humans using humans which evolved on an entirely different branch for their own purposes.
>their only advantage are withstanding situational poison fumes and being able to sacrifice themselves for more damage
Kind of underwhelming, honestly, compared to purples
>think Louie is some evil demon >read his Pikmin 4 log entries >He is just "of mice and men" levels of stupid and doesn't even realize he is doing bad things while having a whimsical wonder for the world >Doesn't even remember what Olimar looks like, but remembers that he likes him because "he never got too angry when I messed up" >Also seemingly abandoned by parents and only raised by his grandmother >The reason he attacks you in the end is because he just wants to live alone in the woods with his doggy friend, but sees that you're trying to take him away from his dog and back to the wagie life
frick
Well shit, now I almost feel bad for killing his pet Titan Dweevil, beating up his pet dog and beating his ass in a dandori battle. It’s just a misunderstanding like 3 when he thought he was kidnapped so he stole the juice.
Louie is driven entirely by selfish, impulsive desires. He probably understands perfectly well what he's doing and just doesn't care because mmm yummy tasty.
>He probably understands perfectly well what he's doing and just doesn't care because mmm yummy tasty.
He literally doesn't remember what Olimar looks like
Because he doesn't give a shit about Olimar. He's the first person to find him and doesn't try to help him at all, he just wonders what it'd be like to hang out with Moss.
He works with Olimar every single day, even if he didn't like him, he'd at least remember what he looks like. Its very obvious that mentally he just isn't all there. He also doesn't try to help Olimar because he sees that Leafling Olimar looks happy so he doesn't want to bother him.
>seemingly abandoned by parents and only raised by his grandmother
We don't know what happened to his parents, but it's not like his Grandma really "raised" him either.
Dude was probably just left unattended 14 hours a day while grandma watched TV inside
>Louie's premediating of the Golden Pikpik Carrot incident probably isn't even him acting spiteful or densely gluttonous, it's him finding a reason to go back to PNF-404 to thrive once more without the Rescue Corps being involved
It stops when you reach the 10 second final counterdown, but you also can't enter a cave if you're already in the red point on time. Still probably time saved by doing one as close as you can to that point in time.
>but you also can't enter a cave if you're already in the red point on time
Not true. You cannot enter caves once the 10 second countdown begins, but you can at any point before that, including during the Hurry Up message.
I exploited this a couple times by going into those caves that exit to a different area by entering right before the deadline and quickly pushing down the shortcut bag during the 10 count after exiting.

I played the whole game thinking you HAD to be back at the ship when the sun went down or game over so those ten second countdowns after getting out of the cave were always nerve wracking.
When do I get access to the whistle that autoplucks for me? I need to platinum the sage leaf trials. Also what the frick is with trial 3 being 3/5 difficulty while the piss easy one called "gimmick gambit" was 4/5?
I just 100%ed the first 4 areas and I'm finishing up de-leafing the leaflings for those areas. Should I do Olimar's missions before doing area 5? My autism wants me to do the main campaign and then Olimar's but maybe it's better story wise the other way?
Yes, do Olimar's story as soon as possible.
You will unlock Trial of the Sage Leaf for doing so, which is how you obtain the White and Purple Onions. WARNING: The Trial of the Sage Leaf is brutal, especially without the pluck whistle.
LMAO oops
i used him as a second captain since i only have 30 carry on him.
i did some autistic shit where i went across the map getting 13 purples and slowly collected all the ice pikmin. i then used 10 to carry the onion, used the ice pikmin across the map to destroy obstacles/get the bomb rock and then used the last 3 purples to stunlock the water wraith.
So with Pik 4 confirming that there's several inhabited planets that all consider oxygen to be poisonous, I had a bit of a fan theory
What if the reason PNF-404 is so prone to crash landings is because nobody has experience entering oxygen-filled atmospheres? I can totally see some average joe piloting his ship, going to PNF-404 and going "Hey wait why is the nose of my ship on fire"
It's also worth noting the only time someone safely lands on the planet is if previous experience is involved
Pik 2 has Olimar familiar with the planet and landing safely, and the only person to safely land in Pik 4 was sent after their co-workers crashed, and their organization probably received logs of said crash
Which tracks when you consider that Olimar was probably the one piloting every time
Also wait when does louie fly in 3? I literally just finished Pik 3 for the first time a few weeks ago, is this bonus content I missed?

No, it's just in the logs. Louie fled after Olimar got nabbed, and apparently ejected or some shit over Twilight River while the ship ends up in Garden of Hope.
Though in the epilogue of 3 they both crash down in a little blue pod, purposefully crash landing.
Louie? I'm pretty sure he's just autistic. One of his treasure notes about the billiard balls says he has an intense desire to line them all up, which is a pretty big autism sign in children.
i didn't use the treasure tracker
i turned it off and just used oatchi's treasure sniffer if i wanted to check if i was done with an area. i liked the mystery and not knowing
anyone else spend like 99% of the game riding oatchi instead of splitting him up? late game pretty much requires you to split up for better dandori, but most of the time it just seems objectively better to ride him because pikmin all stay together tightly, they move with you very fast regardless of flower since they're on oatchi, and his dash attack demolishes enemies. every time i have to get off him feels like a slog because i'm so used to those perks
I pretty much never split up unless a puzzle explicitly required it and didnt struggle at all. Using him as a captain never even really occurred to me.
so weird seeing the replies
maybe it's because i was fresh off of true spice so not having two captains multitasking at all times feels like im just wasting complete time
esp with oatchi just being able to carry shit by himself it felt like a waste to be using him as a mount
I prefer 4's level design not needing you constantly multitask, 3's level design of "a million different little paths you got to go and waste a bunch of time on for one fruit" gets tedious fast

In Pikmin 1 and 2 before purples, the charge stick was my main method of attack. With that gone in the early game of 4, and especially with the army size being limited I just got too used to using the oatchi charge to initiate an attack instead of individually throwing.
Is it just me or is this like the least dandori centered game in the series besides 2? All the micro-managing and multitasking is delagated to Dandori challenges and battles, so it never really feels like you even need to be efficient.
In the base game casually? Yeah.
I don’t mind it because the Dandori Missions, Sage Trials, and 4 Day Olimar’s Tale easily gave me my fill of nice difficulty. I’ve yet to run a minimal days run of the main game so far but it was fun clearing out area 1 in two days.
But yeah holy shit I do wish we got a Newgame Plus.
I didn't have enough room to fit him without something overlapping and didn't really think about it I wanted White and Purple in since their Onions are what you get from the trials and Bulbmin because I love and miss Bulbmin very much
>going for a 0 deaths run in 4 >Apparently lost 2 pikmin during the final phase of the final boss >didn't realize this until after the game autosaved >can't go back and reset it >my save file is forever tainted
BRB killing myself
Whatcha playan'?
how far you into it?
favorite game, thoughts on 4?
I'm currently almost done with 3 deluxe and I'm at the third zone of Pikmin 4. I am playing through them all and enjoying it. 🙂 stay based, pikminchads.
It requires the most extensive routing in the entire run and you’re always going to be strapped for time. You will have to abuse motion controls for one part every time but I did motion control abuse twice but I don’t think it’s optimal.
beat one for the first time a month ago, had a blast. having trouble playing 2 though, it's fun but I don't feel like doing 10 floors of a cave all the time
I remember when it leaked that pikmin 4 caves were a lot "shorter" than 2's and people got scared. So much more to do per floor now though...at least past the tutorial island.
still playing 4 just got my purple onion and now that i can make an army of white pikmin i will tackle the last area. after will probably work on platting the sage stuff until baldurs gate 3 is out

It's a mixed bag, really. It's an improvement over Pikmin 3 for sure, but it has a lot of issues that make it far from the best in the series. The amount of content blows every other game out of the water. This is a game you're going to play for a while, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. Enemy variety is top notch, pretty much all of the enemies from Pikmin 1 returned alongside a slew of fan favorites, and all of them look and behave as you'd expect
The general gameplay has been streamlined to an incredible degree, which I'd argue isn't a good thing. The automatic lock-on can make things generally easier, but it completely shits the bed when dealing with multiple targets. It wouldn't be so bad if they just let us use a manual cursor like in 1 and 2, but they're insistent that their systems are better than you are
The main content is way too easy and laidback, despite being the majority of what you do in this game, and the size of the worlds combined with the lack of challenge made the campaign drag after a while. The Dandori quests and Olimar's Shipwreck Tale are much more engaging, with the latter easily being the highlight of the game, but it doesn't make the main overworld stuff any better
This game also has a nack for giving you very useful items and abilities far later than would actually be useful. White and Purple Pikmin finally get onions, but you have to save Olimar and finish the Sage Leaf dungeons to get them. Infinite dash for Oatchi is the last skill you unlock and it's only available after the main game is done, making it virtually useless
>This game also has a nack for giving you very useful items and abilities far later than would actually be useful.
I have no idea why the frick they locked swarm until the literal end of the game. What the frick
4's my second game, lost 1 on dolphin last month. Still on the third area, I like that 4 doesn't have a time limit so I can take my time exploring the levels.

echoed my general thoughts on the game. i think it's better than 3 but it has a lot of annoying design decisions and general frickups holding it back, which isn't surprising considering it's a modern nintendo game, but still
Just finished 4 yesterday, now I feel empty inside.
2 is still my favorite but only slightly. 4 is better in a lot of ways. But I miss the longer, deadlier dungeons of 2, plus the music and controls felt less consistent in 4 at a few points.
Overall I was amazed by 4. I'm glad the devs took the time to sit down and bring back a lot of the energy from 2 that 3 was missing, particularly with how good olimar and louie's notes are in the piklopedia/treasure hoard.
I haven't finished yet, but I'm near the end. You unlock a series of 10 challenges in a row, which I have found very challenging, I can barely get silver on them let alone platinum, and I'm only up to the fourth challenge. Besides that, there is a great mode with Olimar which isn't challenging in itself, but can be a great challenge to you yourself if you want to beat it in as few days as possible. I think those things are good enough to really elevate Pikmin 4 overall, because it is otherwise very easy as you say, unfortunately. Most enemies can be charged and killed instantly. Even the empress bulbax, when I first came across her, I killed in one second by charging her sleeping face which is insane.
it's got a mid game credits break like pikmin 2 and pretty much everything before that was a breeze for me. end game isn't insanely hard but i had to redo some of the dandori challenges/battles. normal caves stay easy all the way through imo
The combat is pretty easy so far, enough so I've handicapped myself from using spicy sprays.
The Dandori Challenges do require you to get your ass thinking in a higher gear. They're really well designed and honestly the most fun parts of the game to me.
No, it's not popular enough. Those are usually reserved for online games that get a constant stream of updates and have big communities. People are just talking about Pikmin because 4 came out literally a week or two ago.
>wait people are actually talking about a vidoe game on Ganker instead of social politics, e-celeb drama or sex? >better banish it to an even worse board
>Playing second area >99% completion >Huh wonder where the last treasure cou- >Oh no >Oh no no no >Please don't make me do it >Miyamoto hands me a revolver with one round in the chamber
Sort of reboot, it's like a "Best of Pikmin" game that's influenced by all of the previous games and contains a sub-mode that is a retelling of Pikmin 1. Pikmin 2 and 3 have not happened yet and Olimar crashed after finishing repairing his ship.
The series of events is the exact same except you slot out Pikmin 1 for Pikmin 4
The exact same shit as Pikmin 2 and 3 are implied to still happen in the future
>get pikmin shoe charm >instead of the pop or tie charms it's the fricking clip charms so they are fricking worthless
i guess i can use them on my wires
I played 3 back on the WiiU. Of the two I think I enjoyed 4 more. I remember actually falling off of 3 for a little bit because I wiped completely at the big centipede boss the first time, took a break and restarted the game. I think my favorite part of 4 is the dungeons. I enjoy slowly and systematically clearing areas out of the treasure and enemies.
All this is to ask, which should I get next, 1 or 2?
This will be the first Pikmin game I play. I'm 33 but the other games just never appealed to me. How long until I know if the game's for me or not would you say?
Give it an hour or so. Get a few days into exploring the first area, by that point the npcs will have learned to shut the frick up and let you play.
Pikmin is a weird game, there's really not another game series like it and that can make it tricky to grasp. I nearly dropped 3 but gave it another go and it became one of my favorite WiiU games. Once it really clicks, it clicks hard.
i remember thinking oatchi and some of the new enemies looked like rejected spore creatures when the february trailer first dropped. we really are coming full circle now if only we could go back to when spore was new and everyone was recreating pikmin 1 and 2 species in it...
i didn't even get to play spore with the expansions on a decent pc until i was old and jaded 🙁
[...]
i made soooo many bulborbs
i loved spore as a kid and i was too stupid to realize how much of a disappointment it was

it's not great, but there still isn't anything else like it and it's the last "true' maxis game imo
https://youtu.be/iTsk1Y2wOSs
Despite most of the area themes in this game being pretty minimal I like this ones vibes a lot
it has the right idea, but forest navel is still the superior twangy country banjo song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k3uHxJ7mrQ
Was Olimar's voice this deep in the other games too? Holy shit.
Also I just killed a porcupine and it was almost like a real fight with real gameplay. Were the other Pikmin games like this too?
Ever since 2, Olimar had a baritone voice. And the dashing thing is only in 4 the rest have dodging but you mostly just have your guys smack up the animals by throwing or swarming.
I think it's funny every time someone gets blindsided by how deep Olimar's voice.
Especially when most of the time they're smash bros players who aren't even aware Olimar has a voice.
This is an incredibly nitpicky thing, but why did they change Louie's notes for the Yellow Wollywog? In Pikmin 2 GC and Pikmin 3 Deluxe, he says, "Beer-batter and deep fry", but in 4 and the Switch version of 2, he says, "Coat in a thick batter and deep fry". Why? Is the very mention of beer too risqué?
I'm not trying to be one of those "OLD GOOD NEW BAD" morons, but it is an odd choice.
I will finally buy 4 tomorrow and for that reason I played the demo one last time.
I can say that I almost mastered the demo. >All enemies killed >Every treasure collected >Every cast away found >Every dandori challenge >All onions >All before sundown
I had 5 Pikmin deaths only on that porcupine thing and I honestly had my doubts if it even is possible to reach the last cave before sundown.
Anyway I look really forward to playing the rest of the game
4 is literally 2 but with better designed gameplay and a dog. and worse everything else
Game is QUITE a bit easier, too. Mostly due to the dog. If you wipe the game encourages you to reset.
4 is a lot more lax on the instant kill hazards and the challange comes more from timed strategy challenges than combat encounters. It's almost like a different take ok 2s formula.
As an old pikmin fan I like Oatchi. It's fun having one super unit that can handle any one task while you're busy doing other shit. The most boring way to use Oatchi is to be riding him all the time. I like the challenges where you basically have him solo a whole group of enemies at once while you and the pikmin are gathering materials and shit.
I like him too and I don't think he breaks the game. He makes the combat easier, but the combat is pretty easy in general. He's just a captain that is also a really strong Pikmin. I like that the challenges force you to make use of his skills as opposed to just riding him.
You can mostly take your own path through the upgrade tree. Just make sure you have all of them by the end or it'll be really hard to platinum the Sage Leaf trials.
Oatchi as a mega Pikmin is a great addition. That's what he should have been, riding and charging are just too OP. The former makes necter/flowered Pikmin practically useless and the latter just trivializes combat.
Charging should have been nerfed substantially and Pikmin riding should have been a post-game unlock
This and the 1 boxart goes so hard. The 3 and 4 "pikmin homies standing while front-facing" is so lame. This art is action-packed and shows you what the game is actually about.
Cringe or not this mod is beating my ass anyway >bring my shell pikmin along with my yellow looking frickers to deal with electric enemies >turns out they're not electric immune
I redesigned the dogs. >Oatchi is dead and buried. Bulbie is now Olimar's mount. After bringing Bulbie to PNF-404, turns out that he's fine with the oxygen and undergoes a massive growth spurt, to the point where he can be a suitable mount for Olimar. >While Olimar did originally compare Bulborbs to Bulbie, it turns out they actually have even closer relatives on PNF-404... >Moss is redesigned and turned male. He is now designed after Emperor Bulblaxes, having the "moss" those guys have on his back, living up to his namesake. He's Louie's mount, because Louie is an butthole and Emperor Bulblaxes are buttholes. >It's also fitting that the dogs are designed after Olimar's first and last foes he fights on his original journey.
Hire me, Nintendo and Eighting.
I was on board until you decided Olimar would bring his family to PNF-404. He was stranded for 30 days and almost lost his life, why the frick would he bring his kids there?
>Right after 2 Olimar comes back home (now also reunited with the SS Dolphin) and his family is delighted to see him >They badger him over and over about his adventures, pressuring him to spell the beans >Olimar then monologues about his grand quest of survival and befriending the Pikmin, how they helped him get his parts and treasures for his company, and his children are absolutely thrilled. He talks so affectionately about them and how cute they are and his whole family has stars in his eyes. >They really want to meet the Pikmin! But Olimar is reluctant, warning them about the dangers of the planet. However, peer pressure gets to him and relents. Given the mail in 2 he's not always the most authoritative figure in the family. >Renting a new vacation cruiser, Olimar, his son, his daughter, his wife, Bulbie and Louie, who accidentally boarded the flight looking for food, stowing away in the storage they all fly to PNF-404. While Olimar sleeps, his kids mess with the controls (a twist on the crashes being caused by natural forces), and unfortunately they end up crash landing, and all of them end up getting split up. >Olimar must now reassemble his family (and Louie!) with the help of a souped up Bulbie!
yes, if you played 4 a lot of the changes are from the switch version of pikmin 3, its also why you might be seeing people rate 3 so highly, all cause of the Switch version QOL changes + additions
>doing no death run >only make 100 red pikmin and turn them all into pinks >they bring back a sheargrub without me knowing and make 2 red pikmin >delete save file because it's ruined
why in the frick dies shipwreck Yale have actually good remixed music but the main campaigns soundscape is so sparse comparatively. like the distant spring remix is lovely.
They went way too hard on dynamic music that changes depending on what's happening, so most of the time the music is barely there since nothing much is happening.
all the cool upgrades are at the end whats the point
The game really needs a NG+ mode to let you use all the cool late-game unlocks early on. The using your captain as a pikmin one is basically worthless but it'd be fun for speedruns.
pikmin has fantastic environmental gameplay and storytelling but yeah! enemy on enemy predation is one thing that is completely missing from the series.
even if it's something simple like a bulborb eating the spectralid that lands on it.
I love 1 so much. I’m trying to get into 2 but it’s just kept clicking. Dungeons aren’t exciting. Lots of loading screens and combat. No puzzles. Just tedium.
I’m really trying not to be a hater but should I just skip to 3 then 4?
There are some bullshit sublevels near the end that ends up wasting your time due to the sheer enemy density you have to clear out. At least the TNT spray somewhat helps with clearing out mobs of them even if some require multiple bombs to fully kill.
my favorite is when it spams 20 of the purple pikmin reskin of the creeping chrysanthemum that oneshots you and it's random which ones hold the keys. or maybe when there are 4 of them in a small arena floor with 3 heavy weapons larvae, 2 burrowing cdi links, and a pileated king harkinian. or the conveyor belt level with no guardrails and cdi merchant flies and shy guys everywhere
>Playing Pikmin 1, Forest of Hope level >Get 4 parts in one day (sagittarius, shock absorber, radiation canopy, geiger counter) with just barely enough time >Realize I left like 20 pikmin at the armored beetle arena >Countdown is at 7 seconds >Run across the map from the onion to the armored beetle arena >Manage to call my pikmin with 0 on the clock
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus fricking christ
This right here is my problem with the cave system.
I like Pikmin 2 but there's so much sitting by the hole waiting for them to score the last items. So much downtime. Each sublevel needed a time limit or something.
They do get pretty good once they start trying to frick with you, (basically the last 3 caves)
I caught Pikmin fever and now I'm thinking I should have gotten into RTS games this whole time. What are some good ones if I like Pikmin? A lot of people seem to recommend Overlord.
Sorry if this has been asked before a lot, I have a quick question.
Does freezing and destroying enemies count the same as carrying them to the Beagle during Dandori or inside caves?
>open Pikmin thread
>people don't like man's best friend
Oatchi and Moss are okay but I would've liked them more if they'd looked like Bulbie.
me on the left
>we will never get a Nintendogs version of this
Nintendo's allegoric to money
He breaks the fricking game wide open and has forever cursed Pikmin 4 to be the “dog game”. Expect more people to hate oatchi as time passes
You could just choose not to use him outside of jumping and split puzzles
Ah the classic “just don’t use it”. I shouldn’t have to handicap myself because the main new mechanic of the game is genuinely imbalanced.
>has very high damage resistance and hp and heals himself because why not?
>good damage and can hit flying enemies, so he can solo pretty much any enemy
>resists all hazards
>can carry 100 weight objects and do it very fast due to swallowing
>can stun lock 99% percent of enemies for your Pikmin to melt them before they can even look at you funny
>can even have an infinite run by the end of the game
The thing is the game is full of broken shit
>oatchi was already explained
>ice pikmin will freeze nearly every enemy ensuring a 1 cycle
>purple pikmin are busted again
>rock pikmin are really strong while wing pikmin let you ignore the terrain
>ultra spice is incredibly common to where you'll probably end with 30+ even if you use them semi frequently
>all the other items are easily accessible and decimate just about every enemy
>Self imposing challenges are better than a pre baked difficulty
Didn't even bother reading the rest lmao
A lot of those things you don’t unlock until much later and by 100% areas as you come across them.
exactly, all those complaints are moronic as by the time you unlock all of them, you have 100% beaten the game already
but sitll, even without the upgrades, oatchi makes the game easy by carrying all pikmin on its back, significantly reducing the difficulty of managing your pikmin
>Maybe make it so he can only have Pikmin on his back for so long, and charging into an enemy causes pikmin to drop and charge regularly instead of all flinging onto the enemy at once
this would be unfun and annoying. i like being able to ride him everywhere
unironically killed my hype for the game
Moss is better
I found his ancestor
>The President's face when Louie falsifies his report
This looks suck, what game is this
Holy shit I meant this looks sick, not suck, my bad.
We know you let the intrusive thoughts win anon, don't worry. No shame
Garage bad dream simulator
previously lost media but it got a steam release against all odds
Frick that homosexual
Ruined the game for me
Don't even care about DLC anymore, I'll just play some romhacks instead
Boo
I'm waiting until he's modded out of the game before downloading it. It seems the vast majority of the issues I have w/what I've heard are caused by the dog. Has anyone modded auto auto lock on for throw pikmin yet?
the things he does for love
I love Oatchi
I just don't like how he takes the spotlight from, y'know, the games' namesake. 4 completely removed any of the aspect of 1/2 of actually controlling/manipulating a squad of 100 dudes. Now they're just ammo that sit on Oatchi. I also do not really like his design (I REALLY don't like Moss's design too).
You are right but would the game have been as successful without him?
I don't know but it would have definitely been a lot more challenging and fun.
Pikmin? More like Otachi featuring pikmin from the pikmin series
>Otachi
What merch? There's Oatchi merch? Where?
Is that official or is it a bootleg
I think it's legit. But there's also a bootleg one that looks like this.
I like how they gave him a nose
He looks like he’s been through some shit
Oatchi is cute, frick you
Oatchi is TOLERABLE but I do not like Moss at all.
Oatchi is too cute, it looks more like a Mario character.
>speaking as a hardcore fan
kys yourself
Obviously yes, what the frick? 90% of the game's success just comes from being a first party game on the switch, something people are desperate for.
I'd like him if you didn't ride him but he was just your autistic dog that can carry objects and attack stuff.
But he's a product of the iconic Nintendo cycle of
>Have a game with PERFECT controls (sometimes also a sequel)
>Somewhere down the line completely butcher said controls (accompanied by making it way way easier)
>try to fix this by making radical changes that make it play like a game from a different genre
Name almost any Nintendo franchise and they've done this to it. Smash is an exception cause Sakurai was such a dominant project lead but you can bet your ass it will happen should they make one without him.
Splatoon controls the same throughout the games, 3 even added in some movement techs, the issue is the maps and the weapon balancing.
>Have a game with PERFECT controls
Pikmin 1 is the best one but lol. lmao
Do enemies respawn in Pikmin 1? I'm playing through all of them right now and I never noticed enemies respawning in 1. I know they respawn in 2 though. Since 4 doesn't have a day limit it'd probably be better to take the 2 approach so it's surprising it doesn't.
Yes after a few days though if you're fast enough you will never revisit an area after clearing it.
I beat it in 22 days. Maybe I just didn't notice it. Though I would have noticed if any fricking wollywogs respawned.
Enemies respawn in 1 at certain amounts of time. And new enemies spawn in as well, like Goolix and Mamuta spawning after certain amount of time passes in the starting area.
Many enemies die permanently, like the spotty bulbears.
anyone have screenshots/footage of this?
I don't but I remember him saying that.
He said it to me when he used the item at that teleports you, still won frick you louie
>Last night I Louie Pyroclasmic Slooch your mother
What did he mean by this?
You louie kablooey'd my mom?
He's just another tool in your belt. If there wasn't a time constraint then I'd agree.
source of this HD Louie image?
I took a photo of Louie IRL and asked his permission to use it in a fun meme.
oh okay
Credits of the Switch version
>dandori the frick out of engulfed castle, deathless and all treasures
>literally don't see bubble buddy until the boss floor
>stunlock and grape him to death like the good ol' days
So what happens if I bring purples into that cave later? Can I kill him on every floor for materials or does he just stay dead for good if killed on a previous floor?
Can you bring other Pikmin? I thought you could only bring blues because the entrance is underwater.
Yep, you can only bring blues in, like you can only bring reds into the stove dungeon.
He's dead for good until you kill every monster in the cave.
I can see its a good game but its piss easy and that makes it boring...
Wii or GCN versions of Pikmin 1/2? I'm waiting for my USB Sensor bar to arrive in the mail.
GCN or switch, wii version has fricked up sounds
GCN if you're willing to use regular controls, Wii if you want pointer aiming. The Switch versions require to hold whistle or throw to motion aim, and even if you're okay with it, moving still moves your aim, even as you're using motion aim.
GCN version of Pikmin 1 doesn't let you cycle between Pikmin types. You just have to throw whatever's closest to you. For that reason alone I'd recommend any other version.
switch
he's smiling
>pov ur a bulborb
Oatchi would've been based if he was a bulbmin
He is a bulbmin
Anon, I…
i really hope we get to see more of these pikmin concepts come to life as time passes, i really like the string bean
also is it me or is the artstyle reminding me of yoshi's island
This is what I would want. Way cooler than Oatchi.
No using the dog unless it's absolutely required
Ah.
>Why does this game series with mechanics barely or not replicated elsewhere stimulate my autismogay brain so much?
That's the Dandori speaking, anon.
Optimizing stuff feels good, same reason Zachtronics games are great.
Zachtronic games don't have little goobers, so they are inferior garbage.
Is there any good reason to do the night missions after rescuing Olimar? I've kind of just been letting Leaflings pile up at the base because I can't be bothered with them.
Points to upgrade oatchi
They take like five minutes each to hunt down all the enemies
Not really, most of the later leafling castaways don’t even give materials. So if you’re not going for completion then I’d say ignore them.
Glow Seeds are OP get like 100 for the final cave (I mean, unless you are like not a pussy haha)
>click pikmin thread
>dog drinks Pepsi
Uhhh???
So there's a lot of talk that our character's races are evolutionary offshoots from a human diaspora.
Does anyone have any theories for why there's a bunch of cybernetic creatures?
There are people on earth who wanted to make robot spiders
why is Olimar's voice so fricking DEEP
Have you never played Pikmin?
He's voiced by Totaka
>He's voiced by Totaka
So is Yoshi
>shigefumi hino, one of the main directors on the series up until 3, was also the creator of yoshi
does this mean all pikmin fans are FRICKING homosexualS by extension?
>creator of Yoshi played a big role in setting the tone and direction of Pikmin
Well that certainly explains the vore and eggs.
had sex
He's a Giga Chad family man.
I'm glad the last map was Winged Pikmin recommended, was a lot of fun for my favorites. Might go back and play 3 though just to play with them again.
that one pikmin being abandoned after sunset
>frog slams on it
>abruptly cuts to black
Why don't they just go hide in the bushes?
Probably too scared since leaf bugs might be in there
Finally 100% the game, platinum all Dandori challenges, platinum all battles, platinum on all trials of sage leaf, all castaways rescued and cured, man what a great game.
Most of the caves in the game could've stood to be longer and have some actual bosses in them
The actual level design for dungeons, overworld not being an after thought, cute puzzles, and tons of content might beat 2 for me. The only thing I really don't like is only bringing 3 types and I know it doesn't matter because its designed around whatever pikmin are in that area but still I would've loved to have all of them at once just so I could see them all with my own eyes all out and about together
Reminder that Olimar has canonically fricked at least twice.
>daughter has blonde hair
>Olimar, Olimom and Smallimar have brown and red hair
>Olimom has a tendency to use his paychecks to go to beaches and spas alone without the kids
Oh no no no no no
His dog looks fricking coooler than what we got
Opinions on Bikmin?
It’s a purposefully unfunny meme hack what else is there to say
I found some of the shitposty jokes funny.
I’ve been playing it recently, I like it a lot so far. Need to unlock the fourth area still.
Favorite joke so far?
The censored treasure
Some of the caves are brutal as hell.
it feels like it was started 5 years ago and they never bothered to update the jokes, but the amount of new shit and effort put into it makes it fun
Could pikmin be genetically engineered humans??
That's an interesting theory. Humans could've also evolved into Hocotatians and Koppaites.
I'm pretty sure that's directly implied by the game.
Where the hell does it say that? I know Earth dogs are implied to have become whatever the hell Oatchi and Moss are, but when are humans ever mentioned?
I think one of the "shields" entries from Olimar.
>The ancestor to both Moss - an Earth dog - and Oatchi - a dog from a planet lightyears away - is native to Earth
What do you think happened bro
Then it would be kinda like that book, Man after Man, with evolved humans using humans which evolved on an entirely different branch for their own purposes.
I believe in white pikmin supremacy
Toxic whiteness.
Anon is Fiddlebert
reddit memes aren't funny
>their only advantage are withstanding situational poison fumes and being able to sacrifice themselves for more damage
Kind of underwhelming, honestly, compared to purples
they carry stuff faster and you needed one to dig so they were alright for taking back treasures in 2
I love these little guys. Wish there were more games in the "Controlling Lil Fellas" genre.
I'm told the Hotel Transylvania 3 game is eerily similar to Pikmin if you're looking for more little fella simulators
What the frick do you mean there is a Hotel Transylvania 3 game
>think Louie is some evil demon
>read his Pikmin 4 log entries
>He is just "of mice and men" levels of stupid and doesn't even realize he is doing bad things while having a whimsical wonder for the world
>Doesn't even remember what Olimar looks like, but remembers that he likes him because "he never got too angry when I messed up"
>Also seemingly abandoned by parents and only raised by his grandmother
>The reason he attacks you in the end is because he just wants to live alone in the woods with his doggy friend, but sees that you're trying to take him away from his dog and back to the wagie life
frick
Well shit, now I almost feel bad for killing his pet Titan Dweevil, beating up his pet dog and beating his ass in a dandori battle. It’s just a misunderstanding like 3 when he thought he was kidnapped so he stole the juice.
You think that fat moron has the mental capacity to understand how evil he is and write about it?
Louie continues to push us further and further away from Mamuta's light
He also doesn't try to help Olimar because he sees that Leafling Olimar looks happy so he doesn't want to bother him.
>mmm grubdog so good
>gang gang
maybe he's really just THAT hungry
Olimar is what the devs are like
Louie is us true gamers are like, fr, real shit
>seemingly abandoned by parents and only raised by his grandmother
We don't know what happened to his parents, but it's not like his Grandma really "raised" him either.
Dude was probably just left unattended 14 hours a day while grandma watched TV inside
what the frick is wrong with her
the same wrong thing louie will inflict onto his offspring
>Louie's premediating of the Golden Pikpik Carrot incident probably isn't even him acting spiteful or densely gluttonous, it's him finding a reason to go back to PNF-404 to thrive once more without the Rescue Corps being involved
How much time underground equals one minute above ground?
6 mins I think
Christ that's a bit scary sounding when considering that time loss for routing.
Time underground is 1/6 the time above ground.
6 minutes in a cave equals 1 minute on the surface.
Anyone have the meme of the chinese mobile game add with otachi and moss?
Funny as shit
Moss being portrayed as the "Evil Oatchi" as a joke always makes me chuckle.

Pikmin memes are so funny but I can actually feel my brain rotting upon seeing them
They're just so gormless
What the hell is a gorm
Something the Pikmin are without it seems.
This looks more like "ctrl+c ctrl+v louie" than "ctrl+f"

what a niche biz meme to show up
When do I get access to the whistle that autoplucks for me? I need to platinum the sage leaf trials. Also what the frick is with trial 3 being 3/5 difficulty while the piss easy one called "gimmick gambit" was 4/5?
You might already have access to it. Talk to the musician guy after completing the Soulful musician series
You need to buy every piece of gear in the shop
this is for the swarm trumpet, not the pluckaphone
I just 100%ed the first 4 areas and I'm finishing up de-leafing the leaflings for those areas. Should I do Olimar's missions before doing area 5? My autism wants me to do the main campaign and then Olimar's but maybe it's better story wise the other way?
Yes, do Olimar's story as soon as possible.
You will unlock Trial of the Sage Leaf for doing so, which is how you obtain the White and Purple Onions.
WARNING: The Trial of the Sage Leaf is brutal, especially without the pluck whistle.
If you're trying to get platinum maybe.
it took me an entire day to get even bronze for the tenth floor
the amount of autistic minmaxing i had to do just to clear
Did you not have Oatchi's max carry strength? It's meant to be a Oatchi Escort quest.
LMAO oops
i used him as a second captain since i only have 30 carry on him.
i did some autistic shit where i went across the map getting 13 purples and slowly collected all the ice pikmin. i then used 10 to carry the onion, used the ice pikmin across the map to destroy obstacles/get the bomb rock and then used the last 3 purples to stunlock the water wraith.
in retrospect i guess it was a little rng dependent on the water wraith pathing straight to the two blowhogs to instant kill them
Unironic dandori issue
So with Pik 4 confirming that there's several inhabited planets that all consider oxygen to be poisonous, I had a bit of a fan theory
What if the reason PNF-404 is so prone to crash landings is because nobody has experience entering oxygen-filled atmospheres? I can totally see some average joe piloting his ship, going to PNF-404 and going "Hey wait why is the nose of my ship on fire"
Makes sense actually. Kind of explains why Olimar crashes all the goddamn time lol
It's also worth noting the only time someone safely lands on the planet is if previous experience is involved
Pik 2 has Olimar familiar with the planet and landing safely, and the only person to safely land in Pik 4 was sent after their co-workers crashed, and their organization probably received logs of said crash
Even in 2, Olimar doesn't land completely safely. He crashes into a tree and Louie gets knocked out.
It's not a "crash landing" though
Olimar and Louie also land safely in 3, Louie just crashes the ship later somehow when he tries to leave the planet
I love Louie’s comments on the treasures.
Are those his eyes or eyebrows I can't tell
Eyes
Is he a sociopath?
Yeah, it's overpowered as shit. You're never in any danger of having straggling pikmin get smushed or eaten.
Pretty much.
Fricking game locks the line/swarm c-stick function out until the literal very end so he's basically the replacement.
Is it just me or is this like the least dandori centered game in the series besides 2? All the micro-managing and multitasking is delagated to Dandori challenges and battles, so it never really feels like you even need to be efficient.
In the base game overworld kinda.
Olimar's shipwreck tale has dandori though
In the base game casually? Yeah.
I don’t mind it because the Dandori Missions, Sage Trials, and 4 Day Olimar’s Tale easily gave me my fill of nice difficulty. I’ve yet to run a minimal days run of the main game so far but it was fun clearing out area 1 in two days.
But yeah holy shit I do wish we got a Newgame Plus.

Throw in baby bulborbs from that one save mission because holy shit that one made me the most salty despite it not being that hard really.
I didn't have enough room to fit him without something overlapping and didn't really think about it
I wanted White and Purple in since their Onions are what you get from the trials and Bulbmin because I love and miss Bulbmin very much

That one sage trial just got a lot easier with no pluck whistle
do you get anything for finishing the sage dandori tests or is it just final challenge type thing?
White and Purple onions and street cred if you get Plat on all
It's good to do it before the final area cause there's a gold bar treasure that weighs 1000 and completing the trials will give you a purple onion
Does the ZR button do anything besides the lock on?
just beat the Cavern for a King
what the actual frick was that, some rooms felt like a kaizo romhack
The Empresa Bulborb room felt like a fricking romhack room. I cheesed the shit out of it with Oatchi, frick that
It's insane how much of a difficulty spike that cave is. Nothing else in the game is remotely close, not even the penultimate caves.
Being able to freely leave caves and restart with new Pikmin trivializes it regardless though. You have to make your own challenge with restrictions.
I really want a Pikmin hardcore mode DLC that lets you randomize the spare Yellow/Blue onions with one of the other onion types
Your Dandori is not strong.

favorite game, thoughts on 4?
I'm currently almost done with 3 deluxe and I'm at the third zone of Pikmin 4. I am playing through them all and enjoying it. 🙂 stay based, pikminchads.
Finished 4, loved it probably gonna get high scores on all the challenges now that I have every upgrade and I still have to do a 4 day olimae run.
After that I'm good on pikmin for a while. Wait for DLC probably and then do that Bikmin hack.
>4 day olimar run
What the frick, that's possible?
Supposedly possible because people have gotten 100% completion on first area without Moss.
I did, though in multiple days. You never need to jump and you can use bomb rocks to destroy the pots.
It requires the most extensive routing in the entire run and you’re always going to be strapped for time. You will have to abuse motion controls for one part every time but I did motion control abuse twice but I don’t think it’s optimal.
every time i've checked back in the last week, someone's had an even faster wr, which is kind of insane
Only the first area is extremly tight.
Once you know where the parts are you'll have a fourth of the day left for all other three areas.
I'm more curious about how to do each area in one day in the main story.
Pikmin boomer here, I'm at the fifth area of 4. Prior to this I'd say 2 was my favorite by a very narrow margin, but 4 has definitely taken that spot.
>no hey! pikmin
begone, secondary!
I refuse to play that.
casual.
beat one for the first time a month ago, had a blast. having trouble playing 2 though, it's fun but I don't feel like doing 10 floors of a cave all the time
most caves in 2 are 5 or 6 sublevels
I remember when it leaked that pikmin 4 caves were a lot "shorter" than 2's and people got scared. So much more to do per floor now though...at least past the tutorial island.
still playing 4 just got my purple onion and now that i can make an army of white pikmin i will tackle the last area. after will probably work on platting the sage stuff until baldurs gate 3 is out
beat 1 and 2 when I was a kid and then again on dolphin about a year ago
favourite is 4, that last dungeon was cruel in a very funny way
>Whatcha playan'?
Doing a second run on Pikmin 4 without buying any upgrades (Items are fine since you need some of them to progress, but then again the game is so easy I almost never feel the need to use them anyways)
>How far you into it?
Just rescued Olimar, pretty much racing to the end before I go back to get everything
>Favorite game

>Thoughts on 4?
Good post. Most it the difficulty issues would be resolved if the game just had a hard mode with certain abilities unlocked from the start.
4's my second game, lost 1 on dolphin last month. Still on the third area, I like that 4 doesn't have a time limit so I can take my time exploring the levels.

2, but 1 isn't far behind and some days i like it more
>thoughts on 4?
this guy
echoed my general thoughts on the game. i think it's better than 3 but it has a lot of annoying design decisions and general frickups holding it back, which isn't surprising considering it's a modern nintendo game, but still
im gay? always gets me.
I'm glad the devs took the time to sit down and bring back a lot of the energy from 2 that 3 was missing, particularly with how good olimar and louie's notes are in the piklopedia/treasure hoard.
>the random, extremely detailed notation on sexual proclivities of Bulborbs to explain how the giant ones are genetic anomalies who don't frick
So Bulbie is about the size as Pre Growth spurt Oatchi?
Just started 4, it feels very easy. Never finished another pikmin game only every started 1 and 2 when they came out. Does it get more challenging?
The only way to make 4 hard is to restrict yourself from abusing the blatantly overpowered charge and spicy sprays
it's got a mid game credits break like pikmin 2 and pretty much everything before that was a breeze for me. end game isn't insanely hard but i had to redo some of the dandori challenges/battles. normal caves stay easy all the way through imo
Trial of the Sage Leaf says hi.
If you're above the age of 10 you genuinely won't struggle with any Pikmin game.
The combat is pretty easy so far, enough so I've handicapped myself from using spicy sprays.
The Dandori Challenges do require you to get your ass thinking in a higher gear. They're really well designed and honestly the most fun parts of the game to me.
Is Pikmin going to get it's own General at some point?
they already have a leader, no need for a general
heh
No, it's not popular enough. Those are usually reserved for online games that get a constant stream of updates and have big communities. People are just talking about Pikmin because 4 came out literally a week or two ago.
The threads will die down.
>The threads will die down.

>wait people are actually talking about a vidoe game on Ganker instead of social politics, e-celeb drama or sex?

So is it a reboot or a sequel
I'd go for reboot with homages, like Star Fox 64 or Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom[ but the autists aren't willing to accept that/spoiler]
Sort of reboot, it's like a "Best of Pikmin" game that's influenced by all of the previous games and contains a sub-mode that is a retelling of Pikmin 1. Pikmin 2 and 3 have not happened yet and Olimar crashed after finishing repairing his ship.
so there are two continuities and Louie is an absolute frickhead in both
The series of events is the exact same except you slot out Pikmin 1 for Pikmin 4
The exact same shit as Pikmin 2 and 3 are implied to still happen in the future
Louie is even more of a outright autistic schizo in 4. Bravo Nintendo
>get pikmin shoe charm
>instead of the pop or tie charms it's the fricking clip charms so they are fricking worthless
i guess i can use them on my wires
Should have got the microfiber towel like I did, sillyhead.
Yeah I made the same mistake.
What is your favorite pikmin and why is it purple?
So I just got the "not the ending" ending of 4.
You probably wouldn't like either. 1 is like 3 but harder and less polished, while 2 is mostly a weaker execution of 4's ideas.
>2 is mostly a weaker execution of 4's ideas
louie... kill this fotm homie now!!
This will be the first Pikmin game I play. I'm 33 but the other games just never appealed to me. How long until I know if the game's for me or not would you say?
the demo is a good indicator but the tutorial doesn't end until you start the second area
31 and was in the same boat, just play the demo, by the end you'll either be hooked like I was or you'll decide it's not for you.
i remember thinking oatchi and some of the new enemies looked like rejected spore creatures when the february trailer first dropped. we really are coming full circle now
if only we could go back to when spore was new and everyone was recreating pikmin 1 and 2 species in it...
>spoiler
Ah, I remember those days...
I think I even tried to make a Bulborb once, when I was a kid.
i didn't even get to play spore with the expansions on a decent pc until i was old and jaded 🙁
>i was too stupid to realize how much of a disappointment it was
it's not great, but there still isn't anything else like it and it's the last "true' maxis game imo
it has the right idea, but forest navel is still the superior twangy country banjo song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k3uHxJ7mrQ
i made soooo many bulborbs
i loved spore as a kid and i was too stupid to realize how much of a disappointment it was
Is that real?
Despite most of the area themes in this game being pretty minimal I like this ones vibes a lot
Lost interest in going for new scores beyond getting Platinum's in Dandori missions unlike 3. I blame the lack of Top 5 or leader boards.
Especially when most of the time they're smash bros players who aren't even aware Olimar has a voice.
burp!
where are the 3-cheese bulborbs?
WHoever did this is going to be the next Toby Fox.
Thanks
>Nearly everything you think you need Yellows for, Oatchi can just bonk down instead

It wouldn't be a proper Pikmin game if yellows had a real use.

I really shouldn't have slept on this series for as long as I did.
I'm not trying to be one of those "OLD GOOD NEW BAD" morons, but it is an odd choice.
doesnt 4 has one bulborb note where they mention sperm?
Yeah, the Jumbo Bulborb. It's weird.
yeah the empress bulblax, olimar mentions how much hocotate semen you can fit inside one
It might be because of ratings boards, it'd probably get "alcohol reference" slapped onto the game's rating
i hate louie
Jannies please ban this vermin. I saw one kid who hated Louie and hoped he wouldnt appear in any other Pikmin game cause he is based.
He’s just hungry nothing wrong with that
i ate louie

Why did yellows cuck whites for their digging speed
Because white and winged pikmin are dog shit in 4 and even rock feels shoehorned in but the other two are way worse.
Winged not having exclusive flight paths and no winged gates is probably why you get their onion so late
good frick winged pikmin
Whites have never been the fastest diggers in any installment
But they totally should be
I will finally buy 4 tomorrow and for that reason I played the demo one last time.
I can say that I almost mastered the demo.
>All enemies killed
>Every treasure collected
>Every cast away found
>Every dandori challenge
>All onions
>All before sundown
I had 5 Pikmin deaths only on that porcupine thing and I honestly had my doubts if it even is possible to reach the last cave before sundown.
Anyway I look really forward to playing the rest of the game
Love the dog.
Don't care if its OP, just love it, best doggo.

You can get by with bronzes in Sage Leaf? I saw the first floor with a plat icon and noped the frick out of there.
You can "get by" with bronzes everywhere, anything else is for bragging rights.
Yup, bronze gets you the Onions.
How’s 4 compared to 2? I like 2 and am fine with deaths but am wondering how 4 handles it since 2 just makes you lose your entire party to nothing
Has 2's level of content, much more even. But focused more on Dandori efficiency shit than challenge
How is Dandori efficiency not challenge
It's a different type of challenge
It's just a shame there couldn't be both
As an old pikmin fan I like Oatchi.
Only just started this game earlier today. Any upgrades I should be rushing for doggo ASAP?
His carrying capacity and rush are the most useful imo
You can mostly take your own path through the upgrade tree. Just make sure you have all of them by the end or it'll be really hard to platinum the Sage Leaf trials.
command so you can use him as a second captain. Then rush so you can instakill everything small.
carrying first and the rush imo, you can get blue onion early with 10 carrying capacity
Why did they choose a crawdad to be on the cover for the box art? Seems like a weird choice instead of a bulborb
Because it's Pikmin 2 and you want to showcase a new enemy
This and the 1 boxart goes so hard. The 3 and 4 "pikmin homies standing while front-facing" is so lame. This art is action-packed and shows you what the game is actually about.
cool lobster
It's visually interesting.
has the best vore animation
>the dlc hard mode will just vastly increase the presence of volatile dweevils falling from the sky
It would be pretty easy to vastly increase from 0
Man, I wish.
it's getting a hard mode?
Nah who knows. But it seems like an obvious addition if they are going to do dlc.
Although ultra spicy mode didn't really make 3 harder so
This, bring back the gatling groink, and make electricity insta-kill and way more common and baby you got a stew going
If I had known I was going to get a purple onion I would have left some bodies behind. Why the frick did they make it so nothing respawns?
It is truly a mystery, considering that the enemies in caves respawn
I thought of this guy every time Oatchi stares intently at an NPC
What the frick, the smoky progg would never do this
Oatchi giving everyone that blank death stare is hilarious
I don't care if the mod is cringe, reading the dialogue in the Hotel Mario voice makes me laugh.
cringy ass mod aside, the bughorse IS sex incarnate, so i give this specific treasure log a pass

4’s good, but way too long for me to want to replay it a lot on top of some of the baffling design decisions
What dog does the player use if Oatchi is at the farm then?
The Rescue Corps is deleted from canon and Pikmin 4 is now about Olimar rescuing his family on PNF-404 after a vacation gone wrong.
I was on board until you decided Olimar would bring his family to PNF-404. He was stranded for 30 days and almost lost his life, why the frick would he bring his kids there?
Build character
His wife would abandon him on the planet if he tried that. At least say he drove by just to look and crashed into it.
>Right after 2 Olimar comes back home (now also reunited with the SS Dolphin) and his family is delighted to see him
>They badger him over and over about his adventures, pressuring him to spell the beans
>Olimar then monologues about his grand quest of survival and befriending the Pikmin, how they helped him get his parts and treasures for his company, and his children are absolutely thrilled.
That makes a lot more sense.
I don't hate Oatchi and Moss as they are, but these are really cute and I wish we would have gotten something like these
They don't both need eye stalks
10 more years until Pikmin 5 but at least we know it'll be good...
Is the Switch version of 3 better than the Wii U version? I played 3 only once on the Wii U 9 years ago and it wasn't very memorable at all.
yes, if you played 4 a lot of the changes are from the switch version of pikmin 3, its also why you might be seeing people rate 3 so highly, all cause of the Switch version QOL changes + additions
>doing no death run
>only make 100 red pikmin and turn them all into pinks
>they bring back a sheargrub without me knowing and make 2 red pikmin
>delete save file because it's ruined
What's with the wuub wuub wuub when you're near a bulborb
dynamic battle music in every pikmin game
i think in this game it's specific to certain enemies tho
how do i get trial of the sage leaf? ive been to giants hearth and im on day 4 or 5 of olimars tale
You have to finish Olimar's tale
where are the full game speedruns?
no area is doable in 1 day right?
I'm pretty sure they should be except for area 1 where you need to have oatchi learn to jump
Favorite castaways? Mine is probably Grace.
Louie
You took mine actually.
>ywn wander the stars with a cute autist
what do pikmin eat
nectar bro
no
what do they EAT
Frozen nectar
Poffins
the eat out Shepherd's stinky pussy
correct answer
She literally dreams about a swarm of them breaking into the ship to do this.
The corpses of their enemies.
why in the frick dies shipwreck Yale have actually good remixed music but the main campaigns soundscape is so sparse comparatively. like the distant spring remix is lovely.
They went way too hard on dynamic music that changes depending on what's happening, so most of the time the music is barely there since nothing much is happening.
>Bulborbs confirmed to eat each other in Albino notes
Guess that explains why they haven't completely overrun everything.
>bulborbs eat each other
>and yet breadbugs become dwarf bulborbs specifically to avoid being eaten
Do I get anything for doing Louie's missions?
Yes. You unlock the ability to use your captain as a pikmin and have them pick up and carry stuff.
>Postgame 100% completion reward in a joke item
FROM THE DEVS THAT BROUGHT YOU BREATH OF THE WILD
The game really needs a NG+ mode to let you use all the cool late-game unlocks early on. The using your captain as a pikmin one is basically worthless but it'd be fun for speedruns.
all the cool upgrades are at the end whats the point
nothing brings me more rage then when i hear my pikmin squeak in pain and die, kill all bulborbs and all aggressive life on PNF-404
they haven't overrun everything because they are lazy losers who are only good at eating ants. how tf is a bulborb gonna kill any of this
meant for
I hope the next Pikmin has enemies fighting each other. It would be neat to see predators of pikmin predators.
pikmin has fantastic environmental gameplay and storytelling but yeah! enemy on enemy predation is one thing that is completely missing from the series.
even if it's something simple like a bulborb eating the spectralid that lands on it.
I love 1 so much. I’m trying to get into 2 but it’s just kept clicking. Dungeons aren’t exciting. Lots of loading screens and combat. No puzzles. Just tedium.
I’m really trying not to be a hater but should I just skip to 3 then 4?
2 is kino, try to get into the action gameplay versus puzzle logistics. If you can't stand it yeah skip to 3, you'll like it better
does anyone have the 3 deluxe rom? i need to play it before 4
I've been playing Bikmin all day. Somebody save me. The memes are rotting my brain.
Did you notice the half a A press?
It was one of the first things I noticed
do you like it
i remember liking it up until a certain point where dungeons started getting pretty annoying but maybe thats just me being a shitter
It wouldn't be Pikmin 2 if it didn't turn into utter bullshit by the very end, something all hacks end up staying true to.
Louie should’ve been aborted.
rate my no death run
You must really like winged pikmin
>Playing Pikmin 1, Forest of Hope level
>Get 4 parts in one day (sagittarius, shock absorber, radiation canopy, geiger counter) with just barely enough time
>Realize I left like 20 pikmin at the armored beetle arena
>Countdown is at 7 seconds
>Run across the map from the onion to the armored beetle arena
>Manage to call my pikmin with 0 on the clock
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus fricking christ
This right here is my problem with the cave system.
I like Pikmin 2 but there's so much sitting by the hole waiting for them to score the last items. So much downtime. Each sublevel needed a time limit or something.
They do get pretty good once they start trying to frick with you, (basically the last 3 caves)
The secret to making a good enemy is making a regular guy who is just a fricking butthole.
So Blossoming Arcadia, everything that is within, is doable in one day?
I know its my first run of it but I'm only at 54% with the day ending soon.
Welcome to the fricking read aisle
>BUP
I caught Pikmin fever and now I'm thinking I should have gotten into RTS games this whole time. What are some good ones if I like Pikmin? A lot of people seem to recommend Overlord.
Sorry if this has been asked before a lot, I have a quick question.
Does freezing and destroying enemies count the same as carrying them to the Beagle during Dandori or inside caves?
