I'm probably one of the 3 people on Ganker that liked it, it's very cool but the ending sequence is a bit lame. If you're a history nerd it's definitely worth checking it out.

        It has its charme.

I think the problem is that this studio makes niche titles all around, and quality isn't always even.

It's a mystery game where you want to get to the bottom of it with nonconsensual conversations where every single dirt eating peasant on the screen will stop you and force themselves on you when you just want to talk to the Black person who has answers.

        >It's a mystery game
        It isn't.

It's Disco Elysium clone. A game that's meant to put you into an unfamiliar world. Mystery is just means to an end.

Disco Elysium was good, so I'm assuming Pertinent's world is actually boring and full of lame unfunny writing

No, the problem is them trying to stick to the kind of medieval mindset.

As in, most medieval/fantasy stuff is nowadays is just modern language and mindset transplanted into a pre-industrial setting. But people LITERALLY thought different back then, it was a whole nother zeitgeist, "logic" was different.

Telling a modern person, who may have no Ganker knowledge to begin with, to embrace that mindset and then have them "fail" when they cannot because we live in a post reformation, post renaissance, post modern society makes for a game that only a very small percentage of gamers will enjoy.

That doesn't make a damn bit of difference in how the only thing you do in the game is talk but you can't choose with whom and when on your own.

      Pentiment is trash
      >Despite being a set protag, the game asks you your preferred pronouns
      >you play as a virgin
      >the first bosses are 100% aryans who wear variants of the same golden armor, they want to kill you on sight
      >every time they kill you they say "such an inferior being, will do good soap"
      >The final boss is a troony who is revealed to be the actual hero who is trying to protect the town from the actual villain which is a conservative white man who insist on calling you with female or male pronouns despite no one else doing this.
      >The helpful npcs are all black peasants and lords who have white maidens by their side
      >One of the gestures in the game is a strange mix between early euro salute and twerking
      >All of the towns have female bosses, you often would beat a pack of enemies and then a stronger female boss will appear.
      >There's a mention of gamergate (it's very subtle)
      >One of the NPCs references Rosa Parks
      >When you get the option to change your appearance (yes even gender) an NPC will tell you "I'm glad you are proud of who you really are"
      >there's a BLM mural inside a cave that is all way to end of the world, the description says "a painting dedícated to those brave explores looking for freedom and escape from the oppressing pentiment" once you find this you can get an item called "mighty dagger of Mr. King" (reference to Rodney King, victim of Police brutality)
      >The merchant NPCs often mention of how there's always "evil beings" stealing the lighting of more deserving people (probably a reference to how black people believe that Edison stole a black man's invention when he made the lightbulb despite this not being true)
      >There's a Chadwick Bozeman reference, in an ancient scroll that tells the story of a pioneer that was "as fierce as a panther"
There's lots of other shit crammed in hete just to tell us that the dev are pro white genocide and hate his audience

stop the bait you actually made me believe this game was that pozzed for a minute. show the least bit of proof then I will believe it.

The medieval setting is nice and relatively devoid of the usual, reddit-level presentist judgmental crap.
Gameplay (the mystery solving thing) is shit because the game very deliberately set you up to fail the first two chapters.

Still, I will give it at least some points for trying because you have a book about labyrinths in the library of the monastery.

...when? I know Ganker has a screwed definition of success and failure, but PoE sold pretty well and was liked by critics. Sequel a bit less but still in 7/10 territory.

      >Sequel a bit less
POE2 sold a lot less. Obsidian themselves said it performed well under expectations and it's why they didn't bother with another.

Makes sense. Still a bit sad tho. It's honestly not a bad game, fun setting. But I guess the market isn't there like it used to be or all the normalgays jumped off.

Isn't their first person rpg set in the same setting?

KOTOR 2 and New Vegas barely limped over the finish line as half-broken games, both were carried hard by the writing. Modern writing is dogshit and despite all the time in the world, the games themselves are even more underbaked.
Avellone was basically the only thing holding the studio up

Outer Worlds was a 5/10 game with a 2/10 intro. I have zero idea what they were thinking during development and they completely squandered their chance to be seen as anything more than a AA developer.

Once it was all patched up, I thought POE1 was their best game. Playing it again right now actually. Unfortunately The Outer Worlds was their worst, just dreadful shit, and so I don't have much hope for the Pillars of Skyrim game they're making.

POE 1 and 2 were good and I'm tired of pretending they're not because some autist had an absolute fit about 2 having some optional homosexual dialogue, and it stuck. Outer Worlds was fricking trash though. Probably the most disappointing game I've played in the past decade and a half.

That kind of game sucks without a god tier writer and Obsidian got rid of theirs a long time ago.
