This but unironically, XY get a lot of hate, but those games actually felt like classic pokemon, unlike the bizarro world/Chinese bootleg version of pokemon that was gen 5, which made gamefreak backpedal due to the poor reception and low sales and make something more similar to the old games. XY selling well however seemed to embolden game freak and made them think they could go full moron and sell well anyway so they did stuff in gen 7 like ultra beasts and yokai watch dances, and starting with gen 8 the franchise became absolutely unrecognizable, a glib facsimile of what it once was

Hard agree, tried to comeback to play it a while ago, as it was the first game I actually owned on console, meaning I had the nostalgia factor going on. Couldn't get past the 6th gym. Meanwhile I'm completing the dex on Pearl happy as a motherfricker.
