I honestly want to, but I'm genuinely scared of online play
Idk why, I just feel like there's more on the line than any other multiplayer game I've ever played
This is a (You) problem.
If you think you're not skilled - lots of low skill & noob lobbies exist, including teams which masks things even further.
So if you still have ranked anxiety while those exist...why? Would your ego not be able to handle a loss or two? You're not going to improve and be 'good' unless you start playing online. You're also not going to have fun unless you play online. All roads lead to that.
for someone who didn't play the Rome expansion. Are they trying to backpatch AoE1 into AoE2?
The literally added Punic War campaign from AoE1 according to my steam feed
I think they're going to do Glory of Greece and Voices of Babylon as well (Holy Man is possibly the GOAT AoE level), dunno if they're going to do anymore after that. I think people were expecting the original campaigns to be there when ReoR released so there was some backlash when they weren't
Yes, Return of Rome is essentially a port of Age 1's gameplay into 2's engine. It's not entirely 1:1 but is otherwise a very good approximation. There are some carryovers from 2 like team bonuses and gates, as well as purely defensive garrisons for TCs/towers with no added or extra attacking capability.
It has three new campaigns with the same sort of quality of AoE II ones otherwise. Otherwise I'm assuming they're doing a slow rollout for OG campaigns, with the Greek and Babylon ones winning a community poll. Egypt and Punic War use the intro narrations from DE but lacks the winning/losing outro ones though, and they're a mix of original and DE versions of scenarios.
AoE II itself gets Romans out of the same expansion. Infantry civ with aura buff cavalry and scorpions with Ballistics. Also has a CG expy in the Dromon, which is also retroactively given to Byzantines, Huns, and Goths.
>play aoe4
>pick 4v4, france
>rush knights
>just build knights for 30 minutes
now that's what i call gaming
Fandatam.

There's more shitters thank you think. You won't be getting any thinking player until your elo is around 1k, aside from the occasional smurf.
You have to learn like like 40 civs and how they interact
Nah just pick one and stick to it. It's what most payers below 2k do.
play the campaigns and singleplayer
aoe2 is better played casually. don't turn it into another generic ladder climbing game
t. 3k+ hours
is that someone getting railed on the windowsill?
thats how you make new villagers

Is literally just shoving AoE1 into AoE2 engine.
They did add a Romans civ for AoE2 as well.
holy shit I can't believe I missed out on this, they even carried over those classic woodtoy siege weapons
Is all of this based on the Rome Returns mod?

Just started doing ranked 1v1s. Should I stick to random civs so I can get a feel for all of them or should I pick one to get to my elo faster?
I like starwars more.
that exists, its called Star Wars Battlegrounds, it's literally Star Wars Age of Empires.
I can't take another attempt at completing The Giant Falls in 30 minutes
Whats the point in playing AoE2 when 4 exists?
AoE2 is the better game. Sorry you are too brain fried and moronic to understand that.
>i maek horse
im too busy watching starcraft2 and seething about the shitty balance.
i tried. it's too hard.
Rise of Nations is just better
Why?
EU4 is better for history, colonization, and map painting.
CK2 is better for history and roleplaying.
COH2 is a vastly better RTS.
Im tired of getting filtered by the Great Wall of China.
yes ... YES this is how it starts Ganker is creating their own low elo legends league
*Play Rise of Nations
I will play Age of Empires (RPG Maker version).
What's going on in that window? I don't remember that animation.
