It's not bad, plays like Gears of War of all things with rolling and cover shooting mechanics, you can die pretty easily, it starts to feel more like a traditional ARPG once you start accumulating tech powers which will behave like more traditional skills. The PC version in particular is not well-optimized however, and prone to a few nasty Unreal-related bugs and my one major gripe with the gameplay itself was the map and station layout made navigating the area between missions and shopping sprees a bit of a slog. It's not tremendously long either, and the replayability of other ARPGs isn't there with ongoing difficulty scaling or such.

D3 is way fricking better lmao. I'm level 35 in D4 and I'm using the same unmodified skills as level 5, and I don't need a single other skill point outside some boring low % passives. The fricking towns are miserable where D3 had towns where everything was within spitting distance of the waypoint. Dungeons are annoyingly far away and the horse is dogshit. The overworld is about as interesting as those old JRPG overworlds where your character was the size of each location.

The trick is that you're overpowered from the start and they scale to always feel brainless easy. The only difficulty comes from bosses or boss packs, and yes, no matter how you progress you'll always feel the same against them. I hated it in D3 and I hated it more in D4. At least in D3 you got to choose your torment level "once the game really starts" at max level, but that had it's own issues where "difficulty" was that sweet spot where everything one-shot you but you could clear the screen fast enough that they don't get the chance. Honestly, nu-diablos just aren't good games, but the shills here are paid to die upon the hill of denying it.

I played the beta and it was a miserable themepark like experience with fetch quests and dull combat so I didn't buy it. Now I've watched some of the cinematics on youtube and those were even more disappointing, D3 was shit but at least it had fun cinematics, D4 has a bunch of low quality ingame bullshit where most of it is top down view and only two actual cinematics. Now I'm really glad I didn't buy this turd.
They should have just ripped out the core of D2R and expanded on that. Would probably have been cheaper too. Instead they made World of Diablo. Who even wants that.

Which is also why I think people are getting the "nothing to do" feel. Like in D2, the endgame is basically unstructured and undirected. It doesn't really build up to anything.
Like in D3 you can say you're preparing to GR 150, or to have a couple primals. In PoE you can prepare for red maps, for currency farming for chase items, or for uber pinnacles.
But what are you "building up to" in D4? It's just the standard cycle of farming gear to farm gear faster of D2. They need to add something like Uber Lilith or whatever that gives people a tangible goal.

Had no issues on my barb, a few bosses are ass like Duriel (camera angle is complete garbage) but most of it is pretty easy and loot has decent drops. It's infinitely better to D3's launch with it's uber israelite tier drop rates and garbage itemization before the cube.

Personally I think it's weird that they don't add it, but I'm not an optimisation freak. There is a game in early access that is an arpg and visually reduced to that play style. In fact, what I actually see more often than not is that actual hardcore, dedicated gamers, are playing Diablo 4 in the Hardcore mode because it's the only thing that offers to keep the game somewhat challenging and feeling like you accomplished anything since if you die, you lose the character and start over.
But the grand, grand majority of people I see actually playing the game normally are the normiest of the normies. They're the people who say "Omg Diablo just came out I'm so into it! I'm going to go home and binge it all night!" which actually means they're going to play like maybe an hour.

Yeah that was what I clocked during the beta. The game was absolutely casualized with a fricking sledgehammer, with all elements of effort or challenge smashed out of it in favor of an extremely "constructed" experience escorting players through the story. But unlike other ARPGs that flower after the campaign finishes, this game just says "Ok so you did a lot of dungeons (mostly the same ones over and over) and did a lot of the same little missions and shit over and over. Now for the endgame...you get to do more of it! For no reward!"
Why would anyone stick with this? It's not like any casuals who are teetering on the edge of becoming dedicated players will see the endgame systems and find something there worth engaging with and investing in, because there are none. So the developers just hoped that all the content they were doing while leveling...was going to be enough to also keep them playing it in perpetuity. I don't get it.
I can only assume that when people get bored they resort to spending money on the game hoping to get a buzz out of it before fricking off permanently shortly after, and blizzard, by catering to casuals, was trying to raise stock prices for their fiscal quarter before acquisition or something along those lines

I don't think there is a master plan here. Remember, Diablo 4 has been in Development Hell for like, a fricking decade. I'm pretty sure they actually cut development funding to it years ago and just copied a lot of code and stuff from Diablo Immortal, which was made in China, and they basically just ran the dev team as a skeleton crew for the last two years or so to patch together anything that might be considered "playable", and then just funneled a ton of money into advertising.
The advertising creates the big hype to make it look lie it's a huge game release everyone is going to go nuts over, but in truth it's just Cyberpunk all over again. Shit game, tons of ad hype, and they get to pocket more as profit even if the game fails to have long-term legs.
At Diablo 3 release, I promised myself I would never support Blizzard in any shape or form ever again.
It always blows my mind when I see that people think Diablo III was shitty. It's such a god-tier ARPG, and an amazingly fun power-fantasy type of game. I dunno, it's like Dark Souls came out, and suddenly the power-fantasy in videogames was deemed no longer fun... Now everything has to be kick you in the balls hard "but fair" (though not really) or it's crap I guess.
That's not to say Diablo IV is kick you in the balls hard, but it's harder than III by a long shot. You just have to pay a little more attention to your build and optimize your gear. It's great, and I'm having fun with it. I do miss being the OP Nephalim sometimes though. Enemy bodies ragdolling comedically, and the environment exploding around you as you tear ass through demon hordes. I just don't see how that's not fun.

depends on your budget. for me it's easily worth the money because i've already put 40+ hours in and i'm going to likely put hundreds of hours in (played over 1000 hours of d3 easily). if you consider the cost of a movie ticket (20 bucks with food, maybe more) for 2.5 hours of entertainment, the price for a game like this is actually very good, it just depends on perspective and how much you actually have to spend

The lighting is just too low contrast and they put a grey misty filter over it to boot, a shame because everyone agrees the environment is quite nicely done
idk, i'm not a photoshop guy or artist so i have layman's eyes but when actually playing the game it doesn't look washed out to me, the lights and fires and effects stand out a lot from the background, visual clarity is actually really good

I don't mean like, what is an ARPG. I mean literally once you've finished the fricking story, what exactly are you doing for the next 1000 hours you expect this game to last you? Running the same identical dungeon over and over and over for a chance at a legendary item? Farming endless Paragon points to get that next +2% Damage bonus? Logging in to dailies?
What exactly is the long-term gameplay loop here? There's no endgame bosses, there's no crafting to chase, there's no locked or gated content, so what exactly is your time spent working towards?

But what does that accomplish? What do you get from it? Have you gotten any rare item that has a low drop chance from that specific boss, that you can then go trade to other players so you can use the profit to upgrade your build? No because there's no trading in the game, nor are builds a thing. Are you unlocking exclusive cosmetics from doing challenges related to that harder content? No, the only cosmetics come from the store. Are you literally doing anything other than playing the same content, but with enemies buffed by 20%?

The campaign is actually pretty good but it's like Diablo 2 where the story is kind of a background thing. You're free to listen to the lore or not and it's just text that is read aloud. There aren't any dramatic cutscenes. The maps and bosses are really fun and far, far better than anything in Diablo 4. Lilith's mechanics are a very poor ripoff of Malachi which is a PoE boss.

Yeah blizz does some dog shit tier stuff but D4 is actually really good so far. I'm sure ill be playing D2 again by the end of the year though. It really depends on the itemization at the end game and if it's fricking garbage tier like D3 was I just can't. I cannot subject myself to the bullshit balancing. D3 got so fricking bad with this shit with the sets. Even if the sets werent insane there were like a handful of viable ways to play and half of the kit that every class had was absolutely fricking worthless. I don't think ive ever seen a necro on D3 use revive or bone spirit in any capacity.
Yeah, d3 with necro was alright until i''ve completed the bone spear meta, at like ~200 paragon, couple days after that I was at ~650 with really not much else to do. Hope it won't be like that here.

I really hope I'm wrong. D3 went through the cycle of everything being nerfed down to the level of the shit builds instead of the other way around until they finally said frick it and made the sets insane. If they stay away from sets we might actually see some fricking variety.
It's not interesting nor does it elevate your gameplay with crazy new scalings, skills and stat interactions that make you rethink how you build your character, Diablo 3 had this issue too as everything was just tailored to augment class-specific abilities but their set model was at least briefly satisfying with how you suddenly raped everything when you got one.

I'm running firewall sorc myself. It's alot better than the melee sorc build using charged bolt or the chain lightning build imo, But the Vyr passive at the end of the tree and Unstable Currents are really fricking good for lightning is a lot of fun.
That's why i can't play it anymore. Once you hit your build it's all power creep and literally nothing else not even pvp. I hate it too because they had fricking YEARS to put something that was worth doing in the game and instead they just make gimmicky seasonal events.
There's also hardcore if you're fine with starting over again every time and intern at your isp sits on the big red button again.
I played HC a couple of times in seasonal and had fun with it but it's still the same end game unfortunately.

Now what do we see here? I compared a D4 """legendary"""" with a Grim Dawn rare (which is the legendary equivalent in item tier). The GD item VASTLY changes how you play the character with a new skill, damage conversion (which would blow the mind of the average d4 drone), sensible damage numbers (lvl 82 item 102-107 damage vs a lvl 43 item with ALREADY 1266-1898 damage per attack for all those brain rotten big number good zombies) and a solid amount of stat gains. The D4 item on the other hand makes me fall asleep for how boring and uninspired it is. And if I would compare a REAL legendary of Grim Dawn the MOGGING would have been even more brutal. So in conclusion, have fun eating shit once again with the new neo blizzard game slop.

I am having a lot of fun, at level 53 with a nice build. Killed a few world bosses, done two nightmare dungeons with friends, good times. I like the game, certainly much better than diablo 3 and path of exile.
My only concern is in how the hell you're supposed to get to level 100, some nolifes already got to 100 and I have no clue how. Seems like you need to grind nightmare dungeons mainly to level fast.
I like the way legendaries are done with this codex, you can get a less powerful legendary guaranteed without having to do a lot of grinding. Certainly helps you get a good build going with certain affixes. Eluding is my baby, I'm afraid that late game I might get rid of it because it's so damn useful.
Please don't nerf twisting blades blizz, cooldown reset rogue is fun as hell.
After spending the last 11 years shitting all over D3 and what a bad game it is, it just makes me laugh so hard to see the devs trying to make D4 stand out and be different then it's predecessor and all the community can do is cry. You want 100% spender uptime at level 25? Go play D3. You want to be able to hit damage numbers in the billions? Go play D3. The game has ZERO end game.
You could delete your character and make a new one, it's the same as a new 'season' because seasons have no:
No leaderboards/ranking. - No competition, no one to race, no one to compete with, no reason to improve or continue playing.
Paragon is capped at 100 - Reachable in 2 days, in diablo 3 the first 100 took 2 weeks.
No Trading/Economy - Items have zero value, you don't feel good if something drops, it's worthless and untradable.. no GG item hunt or trading for top 0.01% items.
Rifts (Nightmare Dungeons) are capped at 100 - In Diablo 3, Greater Rifts have no cap.
Absolute disaster of a game that costs 10x more than D3, with cash shop, platinum currency, premium battle pass...releases with 90% less content than Diablo 3.
my entire friends list stopped playing D4 after 2 days and went back to WoW and D2R.

It's a dungeon crawler IP that was renown for having seasonal play. On top of that, there was commercial incentive for the company to trick others into thinking there was value in pre-ordering the $100 edition to play the game four days earlier. The first hundred? thousand? players to reach max level and tweet it at Blizzard gets their name signed on a statue of Lilith.
Some players played and raced to 100 for that reason. Others played, because their friends got the game and they'd be left behind having to catch up. Many bought it because their favourite influencer got it and they didn't want to feel left out.
Seasons don't start yet right though? But there's still a huge advantage to playing early for knowledge and experience. Plus is it true that the game has meta progression between seasons? Like some permanent buffs where you find them now and you get to keep them forever. I'm still on the fence about getting the game on release, honestly a lot of the criticism is legitimate but I can get over, but the seemingly complete lack of meaningful progression and end-game is nigh-killing it for me. Not even talking minmax 100% perfect character, but just something to sink yourself into for a while.

I have no idea, but I can infer some data through critical thinking and previous experience. Ladder racing, legit obviously, has always been about having more knowledge than others. A four day head start is invaluable in the grand scheme of things - levels, items, map knowledge, build knowledge all coming into play vs. some mook coming in with second hand data he has to confirm himself. Just simply knowing what will work and what will not work and being able to test it is king. And it seems nu-blizz is monitoring the balance, so the headstarters can adapt on the fly
That having been said, I know frick all about Diablo 4 and its mechanics. I'm just here to shitpost and flame dumb Black folk for scooping nu-Blizz slop into their pozzholes.
1. New season is coming out soon, hopefully with a lot of new content, quests and lore that they prepared before launch because their season dev teams are separate from the normal dev team. (I have no idea if this is true, I'm playing devil's advocate here)
2. Leaderboard is only relevant for WoW and PoE lifers, Blizzard optimized towards getting the launch money early and they will add a leaderboard later.
3. Removing the dungeon level cap is one button press away, it's all algorithmic anyway. They can patch this in tomorrow if they want.

I admit ive had a lot of fun making fun of d4 the past few days but its actually not that bad. The price is hilarious tho
Not gonna lie, I didn't know what to expect from D4 considering the state of Blizzard and whatnot. But now after playing it a lot over the weekend, I'm absolutely hooked, and I wish I could take some time off work to just play more, which games seldom do for me nowadays.
Looking past some crashes, bugs and lagging, the gameplay so far has far exceeded my expectations. Combat feels very polished and impactful, the skills are interesting, and the "flow" of the world and its quests feels good.
But the best part of it all is, they nailed the graphics, art direction, and music. It takes me back to playing the first two iterations of Diablo as a kid, this world now has me immersed in the game the same way those first games had me. D1 was the first game I spent hours and hours grinding on, it had me completely hooked because it was the first experience of this kind I had. D4 is obviously not as revolutionary today as D1 was back then (for me at least), but they have managed to make it feel the same, which honestly is the highest praise I can give. D3 never got me there.

As for RTS I think it's a similar issue to arena FPS like quake dying. It requires too much skill and is mostly a 1v1 game so you can't blame other people when you lose so instead people go play mobas so they can blame their jungler when they get first blooded midlane at level 2.
