I hate this phrase when it's used for jrpgs. If you have time to waste on a Bornean Orangutan Adoption Imageboard you have time to waste in Earthbound.
I tried to but the story seemed interesting enough but the core gameplay (the battles) just didn’t cut it for me. I wanted to like it, I know it is well praised but the gameplay was just too stale for me to get into.
I've been playing it since they added it to NSO and at the risk of sounding like a hipster I might like it better than Earthbound when it's all said and done. It's very rough around the edges, it's a grind feast at points and it's easy to get lost at points but, and maybe this is just cope, after a certain while you get the hang out the mechanics. You get a sense of where you need to go, where you shouldn't etc. You talk to the towns people and they more or less tell you what's up. Grinding isn't really that bad, it's maybe 20 or so battles before you're ready to take down the boss. What EB0 really has over EB is moments. The moments have hit way harder in EB0 than in EB. Shit like Eve, Ninten and Ana's dance, You finding Lloyd in a trash can and becoming is best friend, Magicant as a whole really is just a trip especially when you find out the truth behind everything. It's like finding that April O Neal action figure with the huge thighs and breasts you used to jerk off on underneath all your boring office paperwork that has piled up in your room over the years. Great game. More people should give it a shot.
EVE, Teddy, and Pippi really made Dungeon Man, Wess, and Fassad look like shit. Mother 1 still has the best party member design in the series despite being the first game.
Close, it was the game that inspired all those dogshit rpgmaker games about depression. It is a well known fact that this game (Earthbound) is one of the most overrated games of all time, the only ones I can think that can hold a candle to it are BotW and Last of Us
EarthBound was actually one of the first games I ever beat (certainly my first RPG), my grandpa bought us a copy from KB toys (it was in the clearance section and he thought we would think the big box was cool). We were poor growing up so my brother and I would just play whatever games came with the snes my cousins handed down to us.
My brother didn't like EarthBound at all (now he probably likes it more than I do), so it was the first game I ever played on my own without taking turns with him or playing alongside him. I think that helped sell the experience for me, because I fricking loved EarthBound as a kid. I loved the music, the enemies and characters, the world, the weird graphics, just everything about it. Even when I got stuck (all the time) it was just so fun to run around and do whatever, it felt really big and full of detail compared to the other games I had. When smash brothers came out I was so happy to see Ness in that game and I mained him (he's still one of my mains when I play with my friends).
The strategy guide it came with was also suped cool, it had so much detail and flavor text all throughout, and it came in handy so many times. I still have the box and everything from when I was a kid, the strategy guide is a little worn out now but still very usable. Nintendo even uploaded the original guide online so you can look through it for yourself.
I don't like EarthBound as much anymore, mainly because the gameplay is limited and repetitive (Dragon Quest levels of limited and repetitive), I also don't like some aspects like the 1/128 chance items, the godawful inventory system (frick the item delivery service too), and the stupid fricking bicycle that you can ONLY use at either the very beginning or end of the game. I do like other aspects, such as the rolling HP meter and the system where you can sneak up on enemies.
All in all, it's a fun game, and I can see all the ways it unfortunately inspired indie schlock. A victim of the Seinfeld effect.
the beginning was the hardest, after you get paula the game practically plays itself though, you'd really have to restrict yourself from using a lot of stuff if you wanted it to pose any sort of challenge
I actually started the other day and the combat and random encounters are insanely boring and annoying. I don't mind random encounters generally but the way they respawn off screen really demotivates me from taking anything but the most direct route to go everywhere. Even a moment's hesitation of wanting to check out a side path will just respawn a group of dudes.
Doesn't help that the combat is just not interesting. Really wish it was just a walking sim honestly, the game parts make it worse. I'm playing it in Japanese so I read slower than I would usually and still the ratio of fun text to shitty combat is just too low.
why? my favorite streamer already did
based
I watched one spend an entire stream doing the Threed tent glitch
Reminds me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMoxnUgmsEU
Why? JRPGs do not respect your time.
>do not respect your time.

whats the best way to grind in this game that isnt a slog bcuz last time I played I got fricking owned by that stupid tree so many times
You don’t need to grind in EB
Yes you absolutely do. At least once at the very beginning. It may not be a long grind, but it's there.
the best way to play Earthbound is avoiding normal enemies so you stay underleved and can actually enjoy the battles.
I used to play it with the gf back in the day. She finished both earthbound and mother 3 before me
I already did years ago. Not as good as all the people kept claiming it was. It's literally Dragon Quest II in a quirky setting.
I did it was pretty boring
I've played every "Earthbound-like" including Mother 1 and 3 but have never played Earthbound.
The only good JRPG's are Persona 5, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and Persona 5. Everything else is weeb trash.
Final Fantasy I/IV/VI/VII/X blow those games out of the water, what are you smoking homie?
I tried to but the story seemed interesting enough but the core gameplay (the battles) just didn’t cut it for me. I wanted to like it, I know it is well praised but the gameplay was just too stale for me to get into.
Play Mother 1 first as it lays the groundwork for EarthBound in many ways and is cool and I like it.

Looks like a dogshit rpgmaker game about depression
SO NOPE
Close, it was the game that inspired all those dogshit rpgmaker games about depression. It is a well known fact that this game (Earthbound) is one of the most overrated games of all time, the only ones I can think that can hold a candle to it are BotW and Last of Us
i did, before it was cool and during it was cool and after it was cool. i like it.
already did last year, i wanna replay SMRPG first
I'm playing the NES one on my switch and is the game supposed to control like shit? My input doesn't register sometimes.

>tfw played mother 3 with lil bro, good memories weve had over it
I did for the first time recently, it was okay
the beginning was the hardest, after you get paula the game practically plays itself though, you'd really have to restrict yourself from using a lot of stuff if you wanted it to pose any sort of challenge

I did, back on my shitty android galaxy s2 back in highschool
was pretty fun, but Mother 3 felt better in comparison
Already did, also feels bad looking for this song and being reminded that GilvaSunner is gone since that's where I originally had it favorited from.
If only Nintendo got rid of the troony run parody account shitting up the search results instead.
I already did 15 years ago.
2>3>1
Its unironically a really comfy game
Already did over two decades ago, the game is too slow and shallow to want to do that again.
>4th character is some fricking chink
>Black person character keeps popping up out of no where
no
Be less obvious, troony freak.
Taking a quick Paula & or Ana sketch request.
Draw ana with her hat smiling and being cute
Gonna sleep now
wow, very nice, thanks man, rendered and all. cheered me up, adorable ana
damn, nice work
Draw Ana hugging Ness, pretty please.
I will when I'm done with the first game. Which might be a while yet. Because it's kinda oldfashioned and unforgiving.
Mother 1 and 2 were soulful, 3 was trash. It's a shame the series went out with a wet fart.

>1) Grind for hours
>2) Fight boss
>3) Go to next area
>4) Repeat from step 1
>Grind for hours
