play on Era or Jova or one of the other 5x or 10x exp servers
can get lv75 in an afternoon so you can get to the good shit
retail has all the danger of the world removed and ease of access additions everywhere, fun if you want to do the story but not fun if you want to experience the game as a whole
All of that stuff already existed, besides the teleports. Trusts are just a stand-in for real party members, which is necessary at this point in the game's lifespan. You wouldn't venture out alone back then, just like you wouldn't venture out without trusts now.

>Couldn't venture out without other players back then >Can do it now >Can teleport literally anywhere, some zones have 3-4 different TP systems available >EXP loss is basically gone >EXP gain is 50000% higher

No you can't. Of course you ignored my point about trusts, but they ARE your party members nowadays, because there's nobody left playing through the game. See
played it when you had to group up with people to kill a bunch of skeletons in a mine and played the entire questlines later on with trusts and mounts
was a cool experience but i can now see that anyone that played or plays this vanilla is a maniac with too much time, killing lizards and bugs for days in the desert is not peak mmo experience lads
. The leveling "experience" is just a small part of the game at this point.

The point is that the players you want to play with DO NOT EXIST, so you have to make do with trusts. Your problem isn't with the game getting easier, it's that the game is dead.

I'm not sure what kind of drugs you are on but the original point was that the game world no longer has the same danger that it used to, which is a fact for many reasons. Trusts exist for an obvious purpose and yes, are part of what makes the game easier.

Taking hours to form a party doesn't make the game difficult, it just makes it a timesink.

Anon that's the fricking point, you couldn't do ANYTHING alone back then, now you can do EVERYTHING alone, that makes the game EASIER.
The danger of the world is gone, completely, you are given a free party to cover your ass at all times as well as other things such as the quests that get rid of the need for multiple people to open doors or pull levers in certain areas. This is of course forgetting how powerful mounts are, but hey.

Yeah and you still have to have a party. Go on and run through an area solo and see how that goes. You won't be partying up with real people, because nobody plays the game any more.

Frankly, from what I've heard of it sounds like a depressing place. Brutal civil war, zealot queen, and suffered during the Crystal War leaving the place destitute.

Maybe, it sounds interesting, minus the destitute part.
Nah, there's a massive archipelago further south. The mithran homeland is kinda fricked though because more than half of it is conquered by Aht Urghan, since Lehko yoinked all the soldiers away from the homeland during the crystal war and they couldn't defend themselves.
Nobody is talking about raping dogs, anon. If you're going to accuse a design of being cosplay tier make sure the design you're defending isn't also cosplay tier.

I'd re-up if there was some kinda scheduled thing or something. Fun games coming out soon so not till end of the year or something.
My event linkshell mostly quit because of the staff changes and switched to 14.
It's too bad we probably won't have enough people on to finish those Reisenjima HELMs anytime soon, maybe next free login. What a pain in the ass that was.
I think we could've done it with just the 6 of us, we had the necessary jobs for the most part. 12+ people probably fricked us with the health scaling.
Was Lure of the Wildcat a pre-Abyssea thing? Because I don't remember being able to warp directly to Whitegate rather than taking the boat. Absolute soulless shit

Heavy drama if nothing else. Would be nice to see more of their culture. I was always frustrated at how sidelined Mithra were in the main game and expansions. Never got a lead character.
I think somebody on the dev team just didn't like them and maybe didn't want them in game. We kept getting Elvaan and Hume and such but no Mithra. You'd think there would have been at least one who was Lion or Prishe tier out of all the expansions.
They definitely realized that mistake with XIV. Y'shtola is sexy but she's no Mithra.
I love Y'shtola, but yeah if they introduced a Miqo'te who filled the MNK role it would be amazing.
Sadly other jobs don't fit what I'd personally like to see, since they scrapped THF for NIN. I'm still upset about that.
How can you forget Naja Salaheem. To a lesser extent there were the Shikaree sisters from CoP too.

Well yeah. Every race has personality to how they handle their weapons and do their animations in FFXI.
Considering the questline was mandatory for the main story you have Windy's WotG. They even have the benefit of actually having a unique final boss unlike Sandy and Bastok which were so half-assed it is unreal
I remembering leveling Black Mage first and making a shitload of gil off of things you can simply buy cheap from a vendor. It's unbelievable how lazy people were, especially when all it takes is level 20 to go across the entire vanilla+Zilart world
Horizon was pretty fun to 75 but for some reason everyone and everything got turbo autistic once you hit the level cap
Most guilds ran some wack ass DKP system that was entirely about how much of your life you could waste camping HNM spawns, and that seemed to be the only endgame they bothered engaging in at all
I did, but I won't again. I've moved on many years ago.
The times I've logged in again only to see my friends list nothing but offline / inactive players means there's no going back that was the only reason to ever play and it's gone. I'm not gonna make new friends as 90% of the playerbase now is severe autists that have been playing for over a decade and have every job they want maxxed out, have done everything, and probably just play now out of habit.
Not to mention the grind is still there, even with all the QoL improvements they have made to getting around the map, or leveling up solo with trusts, the actual end-game content is still hard as frick and stuck behind a bunch of time-gate bullshit like only being able to do Omen once per day or whatever, meaning that you can't actually get anything done quickly and have to balance farming whatever items you need for end-game item upgrades whether it's ambuscade or omen or that new dynamis stuff and finding other shit to keep you busy.
Honestly, the real thing that made me quit last time I was playing is I wanted to level up Geomancer so I would have another useful job, and wanted to work on the GEO job item, can't remember what it was called but it required you clear all the coalitions in Aldouin, and when I started working on that only to realize that there was a time-gate on how many coalition activities you could do daily, and doing some rough calculations realizing that every single day I was going to have to go to Aldouin and do the assignments, and keep in mind they are all BORING as shit and time consuming, but that even doing this busywork every single day it was going to take like 90+ DAYS until I cleared them all and could proceed with the rest of the requirements such as gathering 10000 byld or whatever that shit was called. That's when I gave up.
FFXI was a game I really enjoyed back in the day, but now it's a fricking job. It's a literal fricking job.
Did the place the orcs and gigas come from ever make it in the game? It's funny to me WotG didn't add it despite wherever frick north it is being teased since vanilla
Man, FFXI would be such a cool setting for a non-MMO FF game, it amazes me how much the world of Vana'diel has been squandered. It is just a really well designed and interesting world with some pretty good world building and lore.
Agreed. I'd love an traditional 90's era Final Fantasy set in Vana'diel or a Elder Scrolls like game.
I did, I played it when it was good, and populous, and enjoyable. Pservers are an awful approximation that don't have the playercount to survive (so they allow multiboxing which just leads to one dude running an entire party at the dunes and selling leech). Modern times (post abyssea, thanks ff14) it's just fate swarming to mass exp and then you grind JP like you used to grind EXP, but the key here is they removed the need, not option, but the REQUIREMENT to interact with others, or you'd just straight up stop being able to level up without spending 50-100x longer grinding solo.
There is nothing redeeming about ff11 anymore. It's just a single player "experience". You finish leveling in a pretty fast 5-10 hours (depending on how efficient you are), and then it's just JP grinding. Sometimes in parties, most of the time not because it's slower with other people unless they know exactly what they're doing.
Horizon has a decent player base and at least officially doesn't allow multiboxing, or last I heard anyway. The real issue is that the culture is different. The nature of the player base, even when healthy in size, is very different in its nature from the folks you played with back in 2004.
>decent playerbase
it has "a couple hundred", and it does allow multiboxing. It doesn't stop ashita from multiboxing at ALL. Meaning it's actual playerbase is 75% what the stats page displays, at absolute best, and more realistically, 66%.
Has Horizon's population really gone down that much? It was 4000 a few months ago. Obviously some of those were mules.

Yeah, go master a job solo and see how long it takes you.
You should do a little research before blabbering, Mr. Doom & Gloom. The currently popular private server has more active players than most retail servers and actively bans dual-boxers. It's not without its problems, but none of your specific private server complaints are applicable.
You are correct, after you see enough ai art you can recognize it even without the fingers because brains are creepy good at detecting soulless uncanny valley like that

SAM might be okay I guess.
Eh, I did give it a go last year and was subbed for a while but never really got too far or played it that much and eventually cancelled my sub.
It's got some neat ideas and things I would say it does better than XIV but I didn't really enjoy the combat, some of the quest design felt really questionable and more than anything it felt kind of lonely to play. Guess that's understandable for a 20yo MMO though, kind of impressive it's still up.
At this point it's kind of a hard sell for anyone who's not in it strictly for the story. The current maintenance team is 2 people and this month's update was probably the last to have anything, but an ambuscade refresh for a good long while.
If you care about actually doing MMO things, like group content, gearing up and developing your character etc, it's probably hopeless, unless you can find 5-6 other people with the same goals as you who'd be roughly your equals gear-wise.
If my linkshell is any indication, most established players aim to finish w/e prime weapon they're working on now as a victory lap of sorts and then just quit, unless something massively changes in the next 6 months.
Running around valkurm dunes bonking goblins and crabs over the head with trusts got kind of boring after a while. Plus everything I've heard about high level combat sounds like a level of autism that does not appeal, all the weird gear set switching stuff.
>all the weird gear set switching stuff.
That's what I hate about end-game retail. It's a stupid mechanic. What's the point in picking and choose different gear with trade offs when you can wear everything at once? You should not be able to change gear in combat except for weapons/shields/ammo.
Yeah. Not the 4500-5000 players it had in its first month anymore, of course but it's still got a healthy amount. Sometimes people leave or take long breaks but there's a trickle of new players still so the numbers stay pretty consistant.
11 is one of my favorite games and the system that ruined this game is funny enough what will be good for ffxiv. >lvl 100 >master levels >be able to wear ilv X weapons and armor
The quests in XI kind of suck as well. Not the story part, more how the game thinks not telling you anything so you have to ask people or read a guide is a substitute for content.
Like sure, the XIV quest marker go to marked NPC then to this NPC then go here for fight isn't great, I'd be the first to say I want more quests that aren't just following minimap markers. But I'd argue that there's a sweet spot between XIV's overly guided quests and what XI does, which is essentially tell you nothing, not give you any journal to track what you should be doing, and have you search for invisible map markers. The one for the chocobo unlock quest where it asks you to find some tracks is a good example, searching a 3-4 mile wide zone for a set of chocobo tracks. Or everything involved in unlocking DNC.
People are going to say "you're supposed to ask people to help you" but that's not really a substitute for actually fun gameplay.
>The one for the chocobo unlock quest where it asks you to find some tracks is a good example, searching a 3-4 mile wide zone for a set of chocobo tracks
Nice.
I hope they were random for each player?
Not according to the wiki.
https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Chocobo_on_the_Loose!
Which you basically need to be able to do the quests. I did try doing stuff on my own but it's basically impossible. The tracks aren't even visible, it's a random patch of nothing that you can target when you're close.
Like, if it were actually TRACKING the chocobo, like you had footprints and disturbed vegetation and stuff then yeah, that'd be cool.
I agree with you, but there was something magical back in the day when I had 2 level 70 JP players sherpa an alliance of level 51-54s to Xarcabard to do the 55 cap quest. Or when I had a level 75 BST show me how to get my teleport-altep scroll. There were a bunch of other quests and such I did with no wiki, just in-game chat and forums. The internet is just different nowadays, so you can't really do that anymore.
Eh, I just don't think it's very good quest design. There's something to be said for having open ended quests that basically give you an objective and let you decide how you're going to accomplish it, open world games thrive on that kind of thing. I'm less charitable towards games that don't have that open ended design and essentially go "I'm thinking of a number between 0-100" and you have to guess the right number. Asking other people who guessed right for the number isn't a good substitute for quest design.

If they made it free to play and added MTX to keep the money flowing then I'd be willing to download the game again.

They actually put it on maintenance mode because too many people were asking them to do something with the game after all these years of inaction. The 20th anniversary was last year and they were bombarded with questions about merging subs with 14 or doing literally anything and theyr response was just nah, nope. Yeah, great right?
Don't listen to the Horizon players, everyone there is in the end game already, it will take you hours and hours of shouting just to find 2 people on the same mission as you.

It's a common thought pattern to assign blame to the victim of bad circumstance, as it makes it feel like one has more control over their circumstances.
Bad things can't happen to people through no fault of their own! That can't happen to me! If something bad happens, you must have done something to deserve it!
I just finished all the expacs on retail a month or so ago. Its nuts how much this game fliea under the radar - I liked the story of the later xpacs a lot more than XIV's.
I get that people are turned off by the absolute neccesity of the wiki, but its a small price to pay for KINO
I will once the next free login campaign comes around. Gotta keep moving Adoulin along, can't wait to finally do the whole rest of RoV after. Not sure I'll do VoRe though.
Is Naegling still OP, I was working towards it at the new year when I was playing since I got a pulse weapon from a gobbie but I burned the frick out farming VE ambu solo for the last step, as well as working through Adoulin.
>soloing ambu
Jesus dude get a group, most months you can pretty easily do V1N with a group and it's 6 times more points than VE. And yes, Naegling is excellent on everything that can use it, it's basically a REMA.
All I had was a shit geared PLD or WAR, I didn't think anyone would look at me for a group, at least without a shitton of gil to pay for a carry, gil I did not have
2 servers still very active
it is immensely different from xiv
yes, it is actually good
I soloed everything except for a few of the endgame adoulin fights because I met friends by then
Basically you auto-attack enemies to build TP, and when you have 1000-3000 TP you can do a weapon skill for big damage. Most weapon skills get stronger in some fashion with more TP. As you level you unlock passive job traits and activate job abilities. Most job abilities have long CDs, like 5 mins, so you aren't spamming a rotation like 14. Your ultimate ability has a 1 hour CD(it used to be 2 hours back in the day). You have to level your skill in a weapon by fighting with it, your combat skill increases your damage/acc/unlocks new weapon skills. You have to buy or quest for magic scrolls to learn new spells, and again you have to cast spells repeatedly to level up your magic skills. Early levels it's quite slow paced, which leaves a lot of time to chat with your party/linkshell. On retail at max level and some decent beginner gear you will have so much multi-attack and haste that you'll be shitting out weapon skills constantly. There's also subjobs, which is half your main job and gives you all the skills/job abilities of that class, so a black mage/white mage can cast black and white magic, etc. Probably the biggest thing in combat groups will do are skillchains, you can chain multiple weapon skills together to create a skillchain that does extra damage, and then a caster can cast a spell of the same element as the chain to magic burst for even more damage. Someone post the skillchain chart I don't have it saved.
Any melee job should be fine, war, monk, thief. At level 30 you can unlock advanced jobs like paladin, dark knight, blue mage, etc. Also I should mention, unlike 14, all jobs can equip multiple weapon types. And if you sub ninja, you get it's dual wield passive and can dual wield two 1H weapons on any class. Look up all the jobs on bg-wiki and just pick whatever looks cool, thanks to trusts you can summon whatever to fill out your party. Blue mage, Corsair, and Rune Fencer are my personal favorites.
>Load up Playonline viewer >All the effort and shit in here
The internet would unironically be a better place if we never progressed past this point culturally.
All I had was a shit geared PLD or WAR, I didn't think anyone would look at me for a group, at least without a shitton of gil to pay for a carry, gil I did not have
Basic ambu gear is easy to get even soloing VE, and you can upgrade the pieces to +1 pretty easily too. You can supplement that with gear from Domain Invasion points, and reforged AF/relic/empy gear when you get some money to pay for upgrade items.
I wanted to play retail again but I don't understand how gearswap works, literal alien language to me
Just download a gearswap lua online and change the gear they have written in with your gear. Or just use the in-game equipsets, JP players don't use any addons at all and they do all content just fine.
Still need to complete rhapsodies on retail, played that big new private era server at launch, and that was pretty fun. But then I got to 40 or so and I remembered how much effort and networking I'd need to do to get the things I want, and I stopped playing. If I lived in a world where I could devote 6+ hours a day on XI being a 32 year old boomer I'd do it, but I'm just going to hope for a remake someday. There's a lot that can be streamlined that's simply tedious instead of genuine difficulty or a satisfying hill to climb and conquer.
I have 13k yeah I know hours in XIV and got fed up with its direction last year or so and switched to XI and haven't looked back
Each new job I touch has so much going for it, and gearing for them is a big investment and something I find genuinely fun
Although the fact that Prime weapons are apparently goofy strong but locked entirely behind Sortie really chaps my ass since I don't want to do Sortie runs every fricking night for 6 months

CoP era FFXI is just such ass. HNM camping is literal dogshit gameplay so really all that's left on Horizon is fricking around with crafting to amass gil or leveling alternative jobs after finishing the story.
It's worth it alone for the story and the experience of playing an era server, but I really wish they would've started with ToAU. I haven't played in like 6 months or something so not sure if Horizon has gotten better. But it felt like they had a staffing problem with them wanting to hype up what Horizon is being juxtaposed with them actually implementing anything worthwhile to do.
For me it was mostly the idea of a fresh server. NA never got to experience a truly fresh start and a lot of the existing private servers have been around for years now.
A completely fresh server was really appealing to me and the first couple months of Horizon were legitimately some of the most fun I've had in years. However it was pretty clear the team behind Horizon is incredibly incompetent so as the months went by it was clear the server wasn't going to be worth playing on for the long term.
Its my first experience with xi and its definitely my favorite mmo experience ever, possibly favorite game ever now that i just found a chill ls that does endgame shit. All i need homie
The game is actually fun. The staff is unbelievable garbage and the GMs are complete shit. It's actually funny, I've been making a habit of checking what Kipling is doing because he uses literal inside information to get ahead. He was abusing pet exp instantly before the nerf, he was desynth abusing, and he was camping Lambert mere hours before the announcement that they got BB questline working.
It's honestly pathetic, oh and the staff gives themselves items but that was pretty obvious when they were generating HQ E-Staves before E-Ore could even be obtained. Aerec also turned off being able to view skill levels on the site because people questioned how he had cooking at 70 by the end of the first week
PUGs of what?
Ease of introduction to end game content is best done through a support job (WHM, BRD, GEO, COR). WHM and GEO are probably the easiest to gear (discounting the timegate of Idris) with BRD and COR needing a bit more of an investment. These jobs will get you into groups the easiest and fastest of anything.
However you're going to want multiple jobs geared eventually depending on the group. The issue with existing retail FFXI endgame is most of the end game content is pretty minimal as it relates to the amount of people you want in your group. Most stuff is just 6 man activities so without having a lot of versatility in the amount of jobs you're able to play, it'll be hard to cement a spot in any group. Most people just want to play a DD job and then complain when they're unable to do anything because 99% of groups already have DD jobs covered.
I don't envy anyone trying to get into current FFXI end game on retail because it feels like such a crap chute. All the no-lifers already multi-box and they'd rather bring their already geared BRD / GEO bot than invite any PUGs.
>Retail: Only way to experience the whole game, full of bots/cheaters and the GM's don't care, have to pay a monthly fee >Horizon: Most active server; godawful incompetent staff but everyone got meme'd into playing there by ecelebs >Nasomi/Eden/Wings/Cateye/Era/Jova/ect: irrelevant backwater servers with <500 active players
Where the frick do these guys even get the FFXI bot from? The notorious one that ever worked back when I played was MMOviper and it shut down years ago.
What should I be going for during the dark matter augment campaign?
I got treasure hunter herc. pieces and not sure what else is worth it. I thought phalanx pieces but it seems like Taeon does that already
I would've if that mobile port had happened. I tried playing on a private server recently and shit was too slow.
>I tried playing on a private server recently and shit was too slow.
play on Era or Jova or one of the other 5x or 10x exp servers
can get lv75 in an afternoon so you can get to the good shit
You disgust me. Might as well play retail if you just want to skip the journey.
>I would've if that mobile port had happened
people say this but forget it was a nexon game
I have, and I have nothing left to do besides the super high-end endgame stuff.
no you homosexual. stop making these threads since the only reason you're doing it is to image dump your moronic off model fan art
Are you really telling someone to stop posting about video games on the video game board? Hit the road kiddo.
She isnt really off model at all, youd know if you played the game homosexual
I do, it's better than FFXIV
Play WoW instead
Because frick you.
Frick off to your furry containment board!
this game is trashed and aged like shit
lineage 2 > shitfantasy xi
Isnt that a pvpgay game? Not even comparable
Got to level 17 before I got bored.
UI sucks, controls suck... seems to be a "you had to be there" kinda game.
UI is minimalistic as it should be and the controls are smooth, you're probably braindead and kept trying to use the mouse.
I just started this year and its the best mmo ive ever played, not on retail though idk how fricked up that is
retail has all the danger of the world removed and ease of access additions everywhere, fun if you want to do the story but not fun if you want to experience the game as a whole
>retail has all the danger of the world removed
No it doesn't.
Yes it does.
>set timers for sneak/invis
>Trusts at all times
>mounts
>free teleports everywhere
moving around the world is a joke, and no a few packs of level 99 exp mobs here or there isn't dangerous
All of that stuff already existed, besides the teleports. Trusts are just a stand-in for real party members, which is necessary at this point in the game's lifespan. You wouldn't venture out alone back then, just like you wouldn't venture out without trusts now.
>Couldn't venture out without other players back then
>Can do it now
>Can teleport literally anywhere, some zones have 3-4 different TP systems available
>EXP loss is basically gone
>EXP gain is 50000% higher
yeah, sooooooo dangerous
>>Can do it now
No you can't. Of course you ignored my point about trusts, but they ARE your party members nowadays, because there's nobody left playing through the game. See
. The leveling "experience" is just a small part of the game at this point.
>Playing with npcs is the exact same thing as real people.
lol?
Most people aren't redpilled so yes
The point is that the players you want to play with DO NOT EXIST, so you have to make do with trusts. Your problem isn't with the game getting easier, it's that the game is dead.
I'm not sure what kind of drugs you are on but the original point was that the game world no longer has the same danger that it used to, which is a fact for many reasons. Trusts exist for an obvious purpose and yes, are part of what makes the game easier.
>yes, are part of what makes the game easier.
Taking hours to form a party doesn't make the game difficult, it just makes it a timesink.
You aren't solo, you still need a party (of trusts).
>there are no other players with you.....
Yes, because they don't exist.
Ok you have some sort of weird medical issue I'm going to let you do your thing bud.
You're playing alone with AI.
They exist on horizon, thoudands, in fact.
Horizon is probably the best simulation of classic FFXI you will ever get, for good and ill
Horizon is a good experience but god DAMN is a majority of the community autistic and completely unaware of it. It'll wear on you a bit if you don't find a normal group to play with.
Im an autistic neet so im pretty sure i 100% belong there
It'll be fun as shit until endgame
The endgame requires a special kind of autism to enjoy, I couldn't hang
>pre-ToAU
oh so when the game was absolute dogshit. Frick that, call me when the actual good game hits where Einherjar lets you skip nearly all the boring Zilart HNMs
Trusts are fun for simulating old EXP parties but they just leave you wanting the real thing.
This is of course forgetting how powerful mounts are, but hey.
>are given a free party
Yeah and you still have to have a party. Go on and run through an area solo and see how that goes. You won't be partying up with real people, because nobody plays the game any more.
You are solo, there are no other players with you.....
are you ok?
Looks like this dummy didn’t get his adventuring fellow~
free teleports and mounts should be in ff14 at lvl1 doing guild quests is boring as frick. because your main quest goes in a completely different direction.
But I have nobody to play retail with
>play this mmo alone
no
Play it and socialize, you nerd
Post more mithra before I lose interest.
Mithra>>
Taru taru>>>> Lalas
Dont even try and @ me. You know you can’t win.
>Mithra>>
what's to contest?
Mithra are 100x hotter. I lament that their heyday was before the internet got real big. They lack for fanart these days.
Mithra are cute and tomboyish while miqo'te are ugly blob faced dolls
More interesting personalities too. Too bad we never got to see their homeland.
>Too bad we never got to see their homeland.
Genuinely depressing.
Frankly, from what I've heard of it sounds like a depressing place. Brutal civil war, zealot queen, and suffered during the Crystal War leaving the place destitute.
Maybe, it sounds interesting, minus the destitute part.
>Too bad we never got to see their homeland.
Huh? Kazham is their homeland, is it not?
No, it's just a small colony of shorts. Their homeland is a continent further south.
Nah, there's a massive archipelago further south. The mithran homeland is kinda fricked though because more than half of it is conquered by Aht Urghan, since Lehko yoinked all the soldiers away from the homeland during the crystal war and they couldn't defend themselves.
What's the difference? One has a painted black nose?
The black nose is nice but
It looks whack and awkward without a muzzle
feet
How so?
One is toned, muscle, beast girls with nice meat all over other is humans with cat ears.
The mithra are also cosplay tier except with painted cosplay noses. Come back to me when they at least have snouts.
Hey, sometimes they go mmmrrrrrr in their dialogue as well, that's good character design right?
Unironically yes. They were also the only ones that could also eat raw food?
They can eat raw fish, Galka can eat raw red meat.
Stop raping dogs.
Nobody is talking about raping dogs, anon. If you're going to accuse a design of being cosplay tier make sure the design you're defending isn't also cosplay tier.
Just admit you're a furry anon, I won't judge
Based-wased and tarupilledaru. I love wove how cute wute the Tarus talkaru.
Same. For me it was the character creator with all of them having their themesong and my femTaru running around a field of flowers.
>Same. For me it was the character creator
*creator-weator
>with all of them having their themesong
*themesong-wong
>and my femTaru running around a field of flowers.
*flowersaru.
Ochette if she long
you phoenix guys still playing?
We petered out.
I'll probably resub in a day or two
Move to Bahamut or Asura
Absolute soulless shit
played it when you had to group up with people to kill a bunch of skeletons in a mine and played the entire questlines later on with trusts and mounts
was a cool experience but i can now see that anyone that played or plays this vanilla is a maniac with too much time, killing lizards and bugs for days in the desert is not peak mmo experience lads
>killing lizards and bugs for days in the desert is not peak mmo experience lads
It literally is though. Sure beats raiding for gear that is made useless every 6 months
MORE!
but i am playing ffxi
on horizon
Aight thats all i got
But I just started playing FFXIV
No...
so fricking disgusting. post more
Heavy drama if nothing else. Would be nice to see more of their culture. I was always frustrated at how sidelined Mithra were in the main game and expansions. Never got a lead character.
Maybe why Miqo'te got multiple leads in XIV.
It is surprising though since Mithra were still incredibly popular.
I don't know. Mithra RDM is iconic.
How can you forget Naja Salaheem. To a lesser extent there were the Shikaree sisters from CoP too.
They are supporting characters, not main characters. They are secondary.
No no, I KNOW these are AI art I'm just not sure which one.
>like RDM too, but I enjoy the idea of the agile melee mithra.
Yeah, I feel ya. Couldn't go wrong with a Mithra Warrior I say.
Naja is way more present than Lion
Sure, but not the focus like Lion is. She's a supporting character not a main protagonist like Lion.
>Warrior
Well I was talking about Miqo'te, so only if they didn't go down the same route they did with the WAR quest line for her personality.
Mithra have a lot of jobs that I think work well with them just due to the aesthetic and way those jobs fight in XI compared to 14 counterparts.
>Mithra have a lot of jobs that I think work well with them just due to the aesthetic and way those jobs fight in XI compared to 14 counterparts.
It's unbelievable how lazy people were, especially when all it takes is level 20 to go across the entire vanilla+Zilart world
Whats the significance of level 20? Chocos?
along with OP Warp to Sandy,Windy,Bastok. They changed the levels but it used to require level 20
Horizon was pretty fun to 75 but for some reason everyone and everything got turbo autistic once you hit the level cap
Most guilds ran some wack ass DKP system that was entirely about how much of your life you could waste camping HNM spawns, and that seemed to be the only endgame they bothered engaging in at all
Why did you randomly mix AF1 and AF2?
Why did you forget Amanomurakumo?
I think about going back every day.
I wonder how well it runs on steam deck.
People were playing Horizon on Steam Deck, shouldn't be all that hard to setup
I tried Horizon and Retail and had fun for a little while but I'm just not the same person I was when I was 16. Go figure.
Just played on catseye, seemed like the middle ground between horizon self-induced suffering homosexualry and modernized retail homosexualry.
Did the place the orcs and gigas come from ever make it in the game? It's funny to me WotG didn't add it despite wherever frick north it is being teased since vanilla
no
Man, FFXI would be such a cool setting for a non-MMO FF game, it amazes me how much the world of Vana'diel has been squandered. It is just a really well designed and interesting world with some pretty good world building and lore.
Agreed. I'd love an traditional 90's era Final Fantasy set in Vana'diel or a Elder Scrolls like game.
Meaning it's actual playerbase is 75% what the stats page displays, at absolute best, and more realistically, 66%.
not that anon and I don't play on it, but it has thousands, not hundreds
Has Horizon's population really gone down that much? It was 4000 a few months ago. Obviously some of those were mules.
Peak is 2.2k or so now, no its not in the hundreds unless youre on at 5am, and even then its always almost 1k
https://horizonxi.com/players
1435. It was under 1k earlier at US peak, my mistake.
Still, I would not consider UNDER 1 shard cap as anything even close to decent. Great for hunting NMs, I guess?
it was ~2.3K on earlier today but the numbers are more than likely fake and I see people and their ""wives/sons/daughters/brothertotallynotamultibox" /following eachother all the time
>He doesnt travel with his party
soulless
imagine gripping those wide hips from behind bros...
Someone at SE hates FFXI and wants to see it forgotten, it's depressing to watch but there isn't much we can do about it unfortunately.
strangers of paradise had the delkfutt's tower part to it and XVI's map is pretty much vanadiel with some other references with like mob names so i don't think it's trying to be forgotten yet at least
Although we did go to the far west continent.
Wanted Mithra homeland for waifus.
isn't that where aldouin is? haven't played this game in a while.
Sometimes in parties, most of the time not because it's slower with other people unless they know exactly what they're doing.
>the REQUIREMENT to interact with others, or you'd just straight up stop being able to level up without spending 50-100x longer grinding solo.
Yeah, go master a job solo and see how long it takes you.
You should do a little research before blabbering, Mr. Doom & Gloom. The currently popular private server has more active players than most retail servers and actively bans dual-boxers. It's not without its problems, but none of your specific private server complaints are applicable.
which one is that
We'll never get an answer, because it doesn't exist.
i dread the launcher
You forgot the V at the end anon. Common mistake but don't do it again
You missed a turn, /vg/ is down the hall
FF11 doesn't look like that
AI art shows promise. I must experiment with it at some point for Mithra pics.
I will gladly take ai mithras
I've never played with Stable Diffusion, but I THINK that is how these pics were made.
You are correct, after you see enough ai art you can recognize it even without the fingers because brains are creepy good at detecting soulless uncanny valley like that
Eh
I like RDM too, but I enjoy the idea of the agile melee mithra.
Not that most of FFXIV's cutscenes in their current state would take much advantage of it though unfortunately.
SAM might be okay I guess.
Already did, on Horizon. Now waiting for ToAU.
braw wirk lad
>will never experience playing this in its heyday
why live
You missed out, on good and bad things. I loved FFXI and miss it but also gave it up for good reasons. It's an experience I could never have again.
Horizon isnt a perfect recreation im sure but im fricking addicted, its still the best mmo
imagine how much more coom material for ffxi there would be if it came out in the last few years...
I do, all the time
Eh, I did give it a go last year and was subbed for a while but never really got too far or played it that much and eventually cancelled my sub.
It's got some neat ideas and things I would say it does better than XIV but I didn't really enjoy the combat, some of the quest design felt really questionable and more than anything it felt kind of lonely to play. Guess that's understandable for a 20yo MMO though, kind of impressive it's still up.
member level up
>level up
didn't this artist end up being some weird furry
I feel like catgirls are already part of the way towards furry so that isn't especially surprising.
wanting to frick catgirls in the ass doesn't make you furry wtf
Sure anon.
oh no no no
don't think fred perry ever really tried to hide that
I mean, it's still going. https://www.lvlupxp.com/
If my linkshell is any indication, most established players aim to finish w/e prime weapon they're working on now as a victory lap of sorts and then just quit, unless something massively changes in the next 6 months.
is there a private server that isn't people circlejerking their oc balance patches
i'd play vanilla but frick paying a sub for that
Being harassed by lonely horny Mithra on a trip to Windurst.
Will you still be single when you leave?
it would be best if you stayed friends but let the sexual tension build forever
No I've done that and it's painful.
You should not be able to change gear in combat except for weapons/shields/ammo.
yeah. it was annoying. as an elvaan white mage i only had about 60% of my 'reasonable bis' list even after 6 years of play
Figures a Mithra thread would turn up on a work night late at night. I'm up way passed by bedtime already. Good night.
Purring Mithra dreams to you all.
Is horizon still alive?
Yeah. Not the 4500-5000 players it had in its first month anymore, of course but it's still got a healthy amount. Sometimes people leave or take long breaks but there's a trickle of new players still so the numbers stay pretty consistant.
I quit because of what i'm gonna guess is a bug happened.
What bug might that be?
Mithra are the ONLY reason I'm interested in FFXI.
11 is one of my favorite games and the system that ruined this game is funny enough what will be good for ffxiv.
>lvl 100
>master levels
>be able to wear ilv X weapons and armor
The internet is just different nowadays, so you can't really do that anymore.
dore dore
If they made it free to play and added MTX to keep the money flowing then I'd be willing to download the game again.
Haven't played n years, is play-online still a thing or has the membership gotten cheaper?
I need a break from OSRS.
They actually put it on maintenance mode because too many people were asking them to do something with the game after all these years of inaction. The 20th anniversary was last year and they were bombarded with questions about merging subs with 14 or doing literally anything and theyr response was just nah, nope. Yeah, great right?
Come play on horizon homie
Don't listen to the Horizon players, everyone there is in the end game already, it will take you hours and hours of shouting just to find 2 people on the same mission as you.
Or ya know, join a shell, socialize, help and receive help in return
How do you help a decked out level 75 as a level 10 THF with no subjob?
You DO have a personality, right? Have you ever had real friends before?
See, this is why they added trusts to help newbies go through the early game, none of you homosexuals will even lift a finger to help newbies, frick you.
I had a level 50 or so help with mine, socialize man, fricking SOCIALIZE. granted if youre a bitter c**t they might not wanna help you
Teach me then, how is a newbie supposed to ask their linkshell for help? Here's how I did it:
>Anyone free to help me with mission X? Got 3 people already
>*crickets*
Oh and shortly afterwards someone in my party said:
>Sorry, it's getting late for me, maybe we can do this later
>now we're down to two
You obviously aren't liked and that's a you problem. A skill issue, even.
What makes you think that? What did I do wrong? Is it because I tried to play this shit game?
It's a common thought pattern to assign blame to the victim of bad circumstance, as it makes it feel like one has more control over their circumstances.
Bad things can't happen to people through no fault of their own! That can't happen to me! If something bad happens, you must have done something to deserve it!
Not with that attitude, they won't.
Idk homosexual, suck his dick?
I just installed it.
tried playing it a while back but no matter what i did i couldnt persuade the game to work on my machine
I just finished all the expacs on retail a month or so ago. Its nuts how much this game fliea under the radar - I liked the story of the later xpacs a lot more than XIV's.
I get that people are turned off by the absolute neccesity of the wiki, but its a small price to pay for KINO
FFXI's strongest point is the story. Hell, even a lot of the sidequests have good / engaging stories. Retail is worth it solo even for just the story.
All I had was a shit geared PLD or WAR, I didn't think anyone would look at me for a group, at least without a shitton of gil to pay for a carry, gil I did not have
it took me 5 hours to find a party as a level 12 whm with no sj on horizon
the party took 40 minutes to assemble then disbanded in 30
is it already dead? i found parties easy in dunes a couple months ago with no sub as whm
i can't afford the sub
How active is the community?
How different does it play from XIV
Is the story worth it?
Can you play it solo from start to finish?
2 servers still very active
it is immensely different from xiv
yes, it is actually good
I soloed everything except for a few of the endgame adoulin fights because I met friends by then
>it is immensely different from xiv
How so?
I'm interested now. What jobs do you recommend for someone that just wants to experience the story solo?
Any melee job should be fine, war, monk, thief. At level 30 you can unlock advanced jobs like paladin, dark knight, blue mage, etc. Also I should mention, unlike 14, all jobs can equip multiple weapon types. And if you sub ninja, you get it's dual wield passive and can dual wield two 1H weapons on any class. Look up all the jobs on bg-wiki and just pick whatever looks cool, thanks to trusts you can summon whatever to fill out your party. Blue mage, Corsair, and Rune Fencer are my personal favorites.
Thanks bro

The internet would unironically be a better place if we never progressed past this point culturally.
playonline really is kino
Basic ambu gear is easy to get even soloing VE, and you can upgrade the pieces to +1 pretty easily too. You can supplement that with gear from Domain Invasion points, and reforged AF/relic/empy gear when you get some money to pay for upgrade items.
Just download a gearswap lua online and change the gear they have written in with your gear. Or just use the in-game equipsets, JP players don't use any addons at all and they do all content just fine.
I wanted to play retail again but I don't understand how gearswap works, literal alien language to me
Asking genuinely because I've never tried 11. What's the appeal of it vs just playing 14? Is it like an OSRS vs newscape thing or what?
They're completely different games
Why play Final Fantasy X when Final Fantasy XIII is a thing? Why play XII and not XV? They have entirely different mechanics, settings, storylines….
There's a lot that can be streamlined that's simply tedious instead of genuine difficulty or a satisfying hill to climb and conquer.
>has to post skimpy cat girls to keep the thread from dying
nice game XItards
RAPE
I have 13k yeah I know hours in XIV and got fed up with its direction last year or so and switched to XI and haven't looked back
Each new job I touch has so much going for it, and gearing for them is a big investment and something I find genuinely fun
Although the fact that Prime weapons are apparently goofy strong but locked entirely behind Sortie really chaps my ass since I don't want to do Sortie runs every fricking night for 6 months
I HATE MIQOTES

I HATE MIQOTES
I love miqotes
Based cat appreciator
they're cute
That they are. I think Mithra are cute as well but miqo'te are just nice.
Based.
fill miqo'te girls with whipped cream until they explode
I tried playing once but there wasn't enough sex
ff11 girls were literally built for the player character. I headcanon my character making a harem out of all of them.
I'd kill for just ONE XIV girl being on Prishe's, Lilisette's, Arciela's, or Iroha's level. Nashmeira is a miracle of the universe that needs to be protected, and Lion is just a semen demon of the highest caliber(but XIV actually has plenty of those)

Why did people fall for the horizon meme? Its easily the worst experience you can possibly have with FFXI.
I played it when it came out for a while, whats wrong with it?
I will now that I've finished XVI.
Time to do THAT part of Chains of Promathia.
Assuming I don't change jobs again like a moron.
What is the best way to play the game now if i dont want to pay? Also, i can’t believe official game still isnt f2p or at least merged with xiv sub.
Which job that isn't GEO is good to level for PUGs?
I don't know anyone who would still want to play XI retail. And I don't really wanna just play GEO
What's the best way to play FFXI these days? Retail or private, and which servers?
Retail if you just want to experience the story
Horizon private server if you want the old school difficult you must party and make friends to progress experience
Catseye if you want something in the middle, though it has less players than the above
>Retail: Only way to experience the whole game, full of bots/cheaters and the GM's don't care, have to pay a monthly fee
>Horizon: Most active server; godawful incompetent staff but everyone got meme'd into playing there by ecelebs
>Nasomi/Eden/Wings/Cateye/Era/Jova/ect: irrelevant backwater servers with <500 active players
pick your poison
For retail I think that's only on Asura
I've had no issues on Phoenix with bots fricking shit up
If you play retail, DO NOT play on Asura and 99% of the botting issues disappear.
Odin, Bahamut, Phoenix or Ragnarok are all fine and have good pop.
It still amazes me that the staff that was running Wings is nearly identical to the staff running Horizon
Horizon is playable but it's been plagued with some pretty hilariously bad server issues since launch
Where the frick do these guys even get the FFXI bot from? The notorious one that ever worked back when I played was MMOviper and it shut down years ago.
I already am.
Prime Weapon grind is a b***h.
Sorry, i'm not a troon.
What should I be going for during the dark matter augment campaign?
I got treasure hunter herc. pieces and not sure what else is worth it. I thought phalanx pieces but it seems like Taeon does that already
Quad Attack if you have any fTP weapon skills. Most aren't though.
Ah good idea; I could probably use it in some in TP sets anyways
I am
play dqx
release it in english and I will
google dqx english
Not paying a sub for some extra sketchy 3rd party service either, or holding a damn phone up to my monitor
not my problem
You wanted me to play your game, I didn't ask you
sounds like a you problem
The DQX prologue was actually pretty good. Wasn't mad that I had to do it at all.
She looks like she fricks shotas
I already did. Got bored around 4.3, will continue next year maybe. Their casino system is much better than XIV's.
Just merge the subs and there will be an end to the horror.
neither game should have a sub
I already have a job, I don't want a job that doesn't pay.
As a lalafell enjoyed, are there any sexy tarutaru?
