I played about half the game when my internet went out sometime 3 years ago and I though it was pretty good. It’s a lot like FFX design-wise with the focus on presentation over exploration. I like the paradigm system a lot. It also has some super crazy but still readable UI a gorrilion years before P5.

it's a meaningless name drop. the "sequels" are spin offs. the party loses Pulse's crystal fragments by the end of the first game. there is no reason in them having powers. story wise XIII-2 and LR are probably the most embarrassing movements in FF history.
