It's even worse if you consider that doujin roughly equates to indie.
It's just what happens when you have two very different languages borrowing terms from each other. Japanese has a whole category of words like this called "wasei-eigo" (tl: "made-in-Japan English"), where they've taken a root English word and given it a unique meaning in Japanese usage that is sometimes related to, though not always, the original English word.
For example the word ビッチ means bawd in Japanese, but is based on the English word "bitch" so it is frequently mistranslated as such. Other examples include スタイル (means figure / body line, from the English "style"), マンション (means "apartment building", from the English "mansion"), or another famous one, ブルマ (refers to a style of short pants worn by girls for PE in school, from the English "bloomers" which is an entirely different, old fashioned women's garment).
So it's not really surprising that English does the same thing appropriating Japanese words as English terms. In a way "anime" is itself an Anglicized Japanese word that is not how it is used in Japan. The same is true for "hentai" and many other "common" otaku slang words used by English speakers.

That is a small tsu which doubles the consonant sound it goes before. びっち is how it is written in Hiragana and is a bit easier to see that it is noticeably smaller, compared to the Katakana. In a word processor you will automatically get the small tsu when you type a double consonsant sound on your keyboard, i.e. "bicchi" --> ビッチ

ビーチ, with a long vowel. Which probably sounds very close to your ear, but not the average Japanese person's. Long vowels are commonly used in Japan to distinguish otherwise similar homophones so they have a natural ear for it. Now two loan words that are commonly mixed up are ハンバーガー and ハンバーグ, which even many translators mix up.

Japanese characters are set at the same height so it's usually obvious when one is small. It comes with experience, I made that mistake a lot when I first learned the Japanese alphabets. In a way Kanji is nice because it makes it easier to parse words without having to sound them out in kana, since Japanese as it is usually written has no spaces between words and very little internal punctuation in its sentences. Kanji helps break things up a bit into distinct pieces of information. Of course, loan words being usually written in katakana also helps them stand out and eventually you'll stat recognizing them on sight rather than having to sound them out.

I started learning Japanese about 16 years ago in high school, studied it for four years progressing up to N3 qualification. I continued studying Japanese, and Japanese literature as well, in college. So yes I learned how to write Japanese by hand, including stroke order for kanji, and how to use an old fashioned print kanji dictionary by looking up characters by their radicals. With modern learning tools it's much easier than how I did it.

I got very rusty in my 20s even despite watching anime and playing lots of Japanese games. I had to do some full immersion to get my skills back with a trip to Japan, unfortunately I didn't have a lot of time off or money at the time so I couldn't stay long enough to really immerse myself. It figures that now, when I do have money and time, Covid makes travel and staying in Japan impossible.

Pretty important if you want to maintain a good grip on speaking the language. Some people claim they can get a high level of reading comprehension, and even writing ability, without very much speaking or listening comprehension, but for me speaking, listening, reading, and writing always moved in lockstep and I've tried to maintain all these skills, even if I mostly only use listening and reading.

Well if you have material to listen to (not just anime or music, but recordings of normal Japanese speech, which you can find in abundance on youtube if you search for stuff like interviews and talk show recordings) then you should be able to get a good feel for what proper spoken Japanese is like. It sounds sad but you can talk to yourself and try to get used to speaking aloud. Short of finding a native speaker to talk to this is the best you can really do. Hell even another Japanese second language learner will do as long as you try to communicate entirely in Japanese. Preferably find somebody way more experienced than you so they can help you learn.

Learning stroke order is important for having good hand writing, and for Kanji in particular it allows you to look up kanji in dictionaries much easier. This is true even if you use convenient electronic dictionaries like jisho.org, where knowing the stroke order for a kanji makes it much, much easier to look it up by radical or to use the hand writing lookup feature. So I'd say there's a practical purpose beyond having nice handwriting. And if you want to learn the stroke order, the best way to do that is practicing writing the kanji until it becomes ingrained. I have several ruled notebooks from school that are just filled with repetitions of the same characters over and over again, for hundreds of pages.

It's like learning vocabulary in English. You have a core of commonly used words that you can easily recall for everyday use, then you'll have all these other, less commonly used words that might take you a bit of effort to remember. Kanji is the same way. There's a core of a few hundred Kanji that are very common and everybody learns in school, then once you move beyond this core it starts getting more obscure and you won't see them all the time. There's a lot of common everyday Japanese words that are usually written in kana because their kanji are weirdly obscure or difficult to write.
And yes, Kanji have component parts called "radicals", essentially smaller kanji that are used to build more complex ones. Pic related is Jisho.org 's search by radical feature. Print kanji dictionaries would be organized by radical the way a normal dictionary is organized by letter. Jisho.org is really cool though because you can pick and mix radicals like filters and get a list of kanji by stroke order that use the selected radicals. It makes lookup really fast if you know your radicals and stroke order.
Also, for writing, many Japanese people don't bother to learn to write kanji by hand beyond the basic ones they learn in school, a core of a few hundred. It's actually a common gripe by older generations, that young people just rely on word processors and phones to fill in the kanji for them. This is a neat thing Japanese word processors do, you hit space and it will convert your kana for you based on most common conversion, and you can select a different one from the list if you like. It allows people who never bothered to learn the stroke order for 2000+ kanji easily utilize them in typed communication.

I guess it depends on how scifi you're talking. There's stuff like tale of the undercrust that has a time traveling (i think? it's been a while) robot act as a magical girl transformation tool. But the maps are all caves and such with fantasy enemies. Too bad no one cares about that game and they only care about her ACT sequel.
There was also a game set on a spaceship with some imitator parasite but I don't recall the game looking very good.

I think the main issue with that is that even if you want a "future game" what does that look like? Unless you specifically want to cater to a robo fetish or a space setting it'll probably look like a lot of other games other than the main character's design.

Japanese characters are set at the same height so it's usually obvious when one is small. It comes with experience, I made that mistake a lot when I first learned the Japanese alphabets. In a way Kanji is nice because it makes it easier to parse words without having to sound them out in kana, since Japanese as it is usually written has no spaces between words and very little internal punctuation in its sentences. Kanji helps break things up a bit into distinct pieces of information. Of course, loan words being usually written in katakana also helps them stand out and eventually you'll stat recognizing them on sight rather than having to sound them out.

I started learning Japanese about 16 years ago in high school, studied it for four years progressing up to N3 qualification. I continued studying Japanese, and Japanese literature as well, in college. So yes I learned how to write Japanese by hand, including stroke order for kanji, and how to use an old fashioned print kanji dictionary by looking up characters by their radicals. With modern learning tools it's much easier than how I did it.

Pretty important if you want to maintain a good grip on speaking the language. Some people claim they can get a high level of reading comprehension, and even writing ability, without very much speaking or listening comprehension, but for me speaking, listening, reading, and writing always moved in lockstep and I've tried to maintain all these skills, even if I mostly only use listening and reading.

Well if you have material to listen to (not just anime or music, but recordings of normal Japanese speech, which you can find in abundance on youtube if you search for stuff like interviews and talk show recordings) then you should be able to get a good feel for what proper spoken Japanese is like. It sounds sad but you can talk to yourself and try to get used to speaking aloud. Short of finding a native speaker to talk to this is the best you can really do. Hell even another Japanese second language learner will do as long as you try to communicate entirely in Japanese. Preferably find somebody way more experienced than you so they can help you learn.
what about writing? isnt it a waste of time to learn that if you arent in japan? i dont see myself using it and it seems like that would need the most time to learn and master especially if you wanted to learn the correct stroke order as well which probably is important to do.
Learning stroke order is important for having good hand writing, and for Kanji in particular it allows you to look up kanji in dictionaries much easier. This is true even if you use convenient electronic dictionaries like jisho.org, where knowing the stroke order for a kanji makes it much, much easier to look it up by radical or to use the hand writing lookup feature. So I'd say there's a practical purpose beyond having nice handwriting. And if you want to learn the stroke order, the best way to do that is practicing writing the kanji until it becomes ingrained. I have several ruled notebooks from school that are just filled with repetitions of the same characters over and over again, for hundreds of pages.
does kanji have many similiar looking symbols or is it easy to differentiate and memorize? it sounds impossible to me to memorize thousands of kanji just based on how they look and wouldnt you forget about some if you dont see them regularly?
It's like learning vocabulary in English. You have a core of commonly used words that you can easily recall for everyday use, then you'll have all these other, less commonly used words that might take you a bit of effort to remember. Kanji is the same way. There's a core of a few hundred Kanji that are very common and everybody learns in school, then once you move beyond this core it starts getting more obscure and you won't see them all the time. There's a lot of common everyday Japanese words that are usually written in kana because their kanji are weirdly obscure or difficult to write.
And yes, Kanji have component parts called "radicals", essentially smaller kanji that are used to build more complex ones. Pic related is Jisho.org 's search by radical feature. Print kanji dictionaries would be organized by radical the way a normal dictionary is organized by letter. Jisho.org is really cool though because you can pick and mix radicals like filters and get a list of kanji by stroke order that use the selected radicals. It makes lookup really fast if you know your radicals and stroke order.
Also, for writing, many Japanese people don't bother to learn to write kanji by hand beyond the basic ones they learn in school, a core of a few hundred. It's actually a common gripe by older generations, that young people just rely on word processors and phones to fill in the kanji for them. This is a neat thing Japanese word processors do, you hit space and it will convert your kana for you based on most common conversion, and you can select a different one from the list if you like. It allows people who never bothered to learn the stroke order for 2000+ kanji easily utilize them in typed communication.

Most people use the scifi assets of rpgmaker to make laboratories in modern settings.
It's a shame, how rare scifi games are. They mostly end up being ACTs, because the assets get made from scratch anyways.
I guess it depends on how scifi you're talking. There's stuff like tale of the undercrust that has a time traveling (i think? it's been a while) robot act as a magical girl transformation tool. But the maps are all caves and such with fantasy enemies. Too bad no one cares about that game and they only care about her ACT sequel.
There was also a game set on a spaceship with some imitator parasite but I don't recall the game looking very good.

I think the main issue with that is that even if you want a "future game" what does that look like? Unless you specifically want to cater to a robo fetish or a space setting it'll probably look like a lot of other games other than the main character's design.
