I'm a new player only starting in 2019, but I can understand why people miss the older variants of champs. Feel strange being nostalgic for old udyr honestly.
Even if this build/style still existed, and old GP still existed, it wouldn't even remotely work today anyway. You would get skullfricked by the enemy jungler before you got any ROI on the Philosopher's Stones and doing this would automatically preclude you from helping at objectives because that build is so lane-farm-centric. The game is a lot different now and it's too dynamic to have one-page guides like this anymore anyway. If you go into a game with a single goal or strategy you are probably going to instantly lose the moment one thing doesn't go perfectly.
Imagine if they started making "retro modes". Maybe a few different ones, where everything is exactly as it was back at the patch X of season Y.
They could make a few ones (like one every 3 seasons starting with S1, maybe?) and monitor which ones people seem to enjoy the most, and learn a thing or two from it.
