The character Mjolnir R-54 encounters fragmented messages from the AI Durandal, who appears to be undergoing a process of rampancy, a condition in which AI become unstable and develop their own agendas. Durandal's messages hint at his desire to transcend his limitations and achieve a higher state of existence.
At the climax, Mjolnir R-54 confronts the W'rkncacnter, an ancient and powerful gravemind entity that threatens the fabric of reality itself. In a desperate bid to stop the W'rkncacnter, Mjolnir R-54 activates a device known as the "Spht'Kr," which triggers a series of temporal anomalies.
These anomalies cause him to become trapped in a repeating time loop, experiencing the same events over and over again. Each iteration of the loop brings subtle changes to the universe, leading to a sense of disorientation and confusion. Leading to the gradual loss of Mjolnir R-54's memory. >he may be trapped in a never-ending cycle of conflict, doomed to relive the same events ad infinitum.
After centuries of looping, Mjolnir R-54's ship, UESC Marathon, has become the UNSC Pillar of Autumn, and his AI companion Leela, has become "Cortana".
Once again, Mjolnir encounters Durandal, who retains his memories, however his rampancy has driven him mad.
When Durandal and Mjolnir are about to activate the Spht'kr once again, Durandal remarks >Last time when you asked me, if it were my chiice, would I do it? Having had considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed. We must activate (Spht'kr)
W'rkncacnter, observing that Mjolnir has repeatedly destroyed reality just to stop him, re-introduces himself to Mjolnir as >I am a monument to all your sins.
Each loop ends and resets when Durandal helps Mjolnir activate ****the superweapon*****, which is why when Leela prevents its activation it is the first break to the loop in 259 years, and thus shocks Durandal >odd, that wasn't supposed to happen
Halo is simply a retelling of Marathon's story and any direct connection to it was abandoned long ago in the mac version of the game. You'll have a far easier time connecting Marathon to Destiny(at least before lightfall destroyed the lore) than Marathon to Halo. You can use Marathon's story as a semi accurate guideline for Halo's however and I do believe that if Bungie did create a proper Halo 4 they would've incorporated some time travel plot lines similar to Marathon Infinity.
Yes. Halo is a retelling of Marathon.
That's the whole point of the looping and changing timeline.
They couldn't make Halo being Marathon 4 any more obvious than if they put the Marathon logo on the dead centre of the cover.
Oh wait they did that
Except there is no implication of a looping connected timeline in Halo at all. Beyond shared names and symbols meant as a hommage Halo has no direct connection to Marathon at all.
1. Of coutse there is no looping in Halo, Halo is the last loop.
2. Homages? Yet none are random and all directly corrolate to their Marsthon counterparts
3. The entire plot is exactly what Marathon 4 would be as set up in Marathon infinity.
4. Its frustrating because, like Forerunners being human, this used to be well understood before 343 fricked everything up
I used to think the games were connected but after pouring over all of the cut content, reading everything I could find, looking for each Marathon reference in the game I felt like the connection between these two games was becoming more and more of a stretch. I know Halo certainly uses the exact same story as Marathon but I don't think they share the same universe.
As if stimulating headcanon isn't the point of easter eggs in the first place. All developers - any creator of fictive narratives really - hope you entertain esoteric ideas connecting their IPs because it will make you buy more media releases.
Marathon lore is cool
Destiny lore is cool
Halo lore is fricking stupid, covenant are dumb, spartans are dumb, it's a moronic dudebro shooter like cod with a scifi coat of paint and I wish Bungie never made it
You have issues with Halo as a game, but not Destiny?
Destiny.
Low grade, grind focused, addiction based, shit storytelling, repititive gameplay, zero imagination, DESTINY?
Look, Destiny 1's lore is cool.
But the weakest part of Destiny is the actual fricking game itself
the world and art direction is very imaginative, and the raids and dungeons make up for the grind, the sense of adventuring and overcoming they provide is peak vidya imo and the best thing bungie ever did, but that requires other people and you enjoying being alongside others
>simping for a bare bones slot machine game built entirely around milking you for shitty low effort dlc >calls me cattle
Yowza. Iron law of projection.
homosexuals like you are the reason why Artificial Intelligence in games have stagnated since F.E.A.R and Halo. The only game to really push for well crafted and designed AI in recent years is nu-doom.

>what?
Let me explain.

I hate 343

Destiny is the best thing bungie ever did?
Anon, I....
you're just cattle hating on it bc it's what cattle do, you never played Oni in your life and it's not le based and poggers to like a looter shooter

I have no idea how people can find Destiny's gameplay more interesting than Halo's when the AI in that game was downgraded so much.
They have unfathonably shit taste
it plays absolutely nothing like those shooters, platforming and verticality makes all the difference
