I've only recently begun to feel like my bases are working out decently. My advice is to give up on 2 of your bases that will do everything you need (ore/coal mining, farming, ranching, breeding) and build them as boring as possible on flat land with as few structures as possible so your pals can actually work correctly. Then you have your third base where you can actually enjoy the base building mechanics without feeling like your gimping yourself.
Imagine how much fun it is for someone who is? Someone who gets genuinely happy just from seeing feet, let along touching them. One of the best feelings in the world.
