No it doesn't. By map overlay he means a translucent map that overlays on top of the screen like it did in Diablo 2. The map in D4 is a separate screen entirely and it blocks the actual game screen while it's open.
Good. Map overlay is aids. I am glad it's going away along with mandatory enigma or other teleport skill gear and I am saying it as someone who loves D2 and played the shit out of it.
If the devs make or plan to introduce a specific mechanic into the game, they plan the rest of the content to go with it. If overlay maps is the standard (or if they didn't add it yet but plan to) it lets them design layouts of maps and dungeons in worse ways because they can expect the majority of players will fall back on overlay maps to solve it. D2 is way easier to play with overlay maps and some areas are obviously designed with it in mind. If overlay map won't be in the game (D4) it will hopefully force the devs to design layouts in a more readable and intuitive manner and make the experience more immersive, easier to achieve flow states during gameplay.

Call me a casual or whatever but making it MANDATORY to have gear that caps out 20 defensive stats for every single build just to be able to enjoy the game without dying every few mins makes your game a shit game.
Path of Exile got worse over the years. You are expected to invest almost everything into it, and still get one-shot. The game is absolutely binary, and either you fly through the map, destroying everything, or you'll get clapped in a blink of an eye. Often you can't even react to what kills you, as it happens in a picosecond. Completely moronic. The game isn't difficult, just moronic because of this.

I'm playing it right now, and I think I reached the point where it stops being fun, as I keep getting filtered by tier 10+ maps. I capped out my resistances, I have a decent life pool, and yet I keep getting assraped within milliseconds.
I feel like the only way I can still improve my character is by autistically minmaxing my gear, and it seems near impossible to do that when every piece of gear dropped is garbage. I've been grinding for 2 fricking days with no noteable upgrades to my equipment.

Is there any Diablo-like game that tried to do something new and was actually good? I played Resurrected recently having played Diablo II like 20 years ago and was trying to find something else in this style. Besides Supergiant games (which I alreadycplayed) everything else looked just like the same generic dark fantasy but now with a mobile phone UI.
Grim Dawn has static maps but hidden areas and rewards exploration. LE wants to be something between Diablo and PoE, has its skill trees that change how every skill work. Damage skill can become aura etc. Diablo IV will MMO-light.
Diablo 4 beta was fun, will wait for inevitable sale after short while, 70€ for the base digital only game is beyond moronic.

after having played the d4 beta, ngl, i really miss the physicality of the skills when i go back to poe. like how when you're barb and you use your kick skill it sends monsters flying into a wall. the little things like visual effects, smoke effects, etc. made the skills feel amazing.
it made me realize that even tho poe has like 10 gorillion skills theres basically none that affect the environment or the monsters beyond like some debuffs. really missing that.
I was not sold on d4 until i got barb kick. that thing has some powah to it. Trying to think of a build around it. Movement in that game feels good too. Dodge>kick>leap would be fun.

No it doesn't. By map overlay he means a translucent map that overlays on top of the screen like it did in Diablo 2. The map in D4 is a separate screen entirely and it blocks the actual game screen while it's open.

If the devs make or plan to introduce a specific mechanic into the game, they plan the rest of the content to go with it. If overlay maps is the standard (or if they didn't add it yet but plan to) it lets them design layouts of maps and dungeons in worse ways because they can expect the majority of players will fall back on overlay maps to solve it. D2 is way easier to play with overlay maps and some areas are obviously designed with it in mind. If overlay map won't be in the game (D4) it will hopefully force the devs to design layouts in a more readable and intuitive manner and make the experience more immersive, easier to achieve flow states during gameplay.
In reality that just means they can make every map a linear corridor to mask how shitty their procedural generation is compared to games from several decades ago.

I played all Diablos, Grim Dawn and LE, I will give it a try once they release a league that people love. It has too many mechanics which makes it intimidating, other than maps I don't understand other endgame stuff.
Call me a casual or whatever but making it MANDATORY to have gear that caps out 20 defensive stats for every single build just to be able to enjoy the game without dying every few mins makes your game a shit game.
Path of Exile got worse over the years. You are expected to invest almost everything into it, and still get one-shot. The game is absolutely binary, and either you fly through the map, destroying everything, or you'll get clapped in a blink of an eye. Often you can't even react to what kills you, as it happens in a picosecond. Completely moronic. The game isn't difficult, just moronic because of this.

DS1 is more of a CRPG with real time with pause combat. If you don't pause often to issue orders and re-do your formation you're in it for a bad time.

I'm playing it right now, and I think I reached the point where it stops being fun, as I keep getting filtered by tier 10+ maps. I capped out my resistances, I have a decent life pool, and yet I keep getting assraped within milliseconds.
I feel like the only way I can still improve my character is by autistically minmaxing my gear, and it seems near impossible to do that when every piece of gear dropped is garbage. I've been grinding for 2 fricking days with no noteable upgrades to my equipment.

Is there any Diablo-like game that tried to do something new and was actually good? I played Resurrected recently having played Diablo II like 20 years ago and was trying to find something else in this style. Besides Supergiant games (which I alreadycplayed) everything else looked just like the same generic dark fantasy but now with a mobile phone UI.
Grim Dawn has static maps but hidden areas and rewards exploration. LE wants to be something between Diablo and PoE, has its skill trees that change how every skill work. Damage skill can become aura etc. Diablo IV will MMO-light.

after having played the d4 beta, ngl, i really miss the physicality of the skills when i go back to poe. like how when you're barb and you use your kick skill it sends monsters flying into a wall. the little things like visual effects, smoke effects, etc. made the skills feel amazing.
it made me realize that even tho poe has like 10 gorillion skills theres basically none that affect the environment or the monsters beyond like some debuffs. really missing that.
