I remember giving up on bhopping completely. I just wanted to look good in front of the other dudes in the server
Live has automatic bhopping
Champions should be forgotten
>Live has automatic bhopping
It's so hard to go back to other Quake 3 versions without it. It's an absolute godsend for strafing up stairs.
Openarena would unironically be better than retail Q3 if it had better maps. I actually prefer a lot of its art and sound effects.
>took me less than an hour to get the hang of bhop
Sorry god didn't grace you with hand eye coordination anon
champions was fun but at the end of the day, the game is dead and so is the genre. nothing we can do but move on.
>the game is dead
There's not a ton of people playing but I always find games pretty quick.
is pronounced "quakk-ey"
quake hampions
I am. I'm a total newbie but am enjoying getting my ass kicked.
I honestly prefer Doom deathmatch, SSG jousting is just that fun.
I can't I'm newbie and I only finish Quake 1.
I will never touch multiplayer because I would already grt reckt by boomers.
It's quick and painless to at least try imo:
>show up
>get fricking blown up every two seconds because they know the spawn timings for the powerups after taking them (basic tactic)
>leave
or
>show up
>everyone fricking sucks ass
>it is fun
>Play quake
Sure
>Get Good
Frick no those morons ruined quake
>Embrace Tradition
I would absolutely love to play the-simpsons-map with a pile of idiots actually willing to have fun and not beeline for the rocket launcher and abuse spawning mechanics.
>another youtube makes a quake retrospective video essay about john carpenter inventing math and using it to make the best fps ever developed
views with thousands of comments saying they love quake and want more games like it
>go to actually play any quake multiplayer
>maybe 7 players globally
>try to invite anyone to play ever
>"oh I like fps games I'm just not that good at them lol I'll stick to [gay shit]"
>Even in your made up hypothetical the person you're trying to get to play quake know it's going to be an awful experience and not fun
The trouble with Quake is that a a new player will get absolutely mercilessly annihilated by low tier veterans. Mastering the movement and learning the maps takes time, and it's very tough to do that when your opponent is strafejumping circles around you and fragging you before you can get 10 feet from spawn.
Also with Quake Champions being the most popular version of the game atm you have bullshit gay champions that people abuse.
You're grossly overestimating how difficult it is to jump around and shoot.
I'm not because I've bodied plenty of noobs and I fricking suck myself. Most new players get their shitters shattered a few times and then quit.
>I fricking suck but win anyway
>This is proof the game is unapproachable
People acting like shooting bad guys is this fricking steep cliff to scale is what's killing the genre
You're grossly overestimating the capabilities of your average console fps player
>console
>The trouble with Quake is that a a new player will get absolutely mercilessly annihilated by low tier veterans
Is this not how it's supposed to work? If you're good at the game, you win. Seriously?
The difference between a cod noob and a cod vet is like a few feet. The difference between a quake noob and a quake vet is a few miles
So the game has more depth? Again, how is this a bad thing?
This reads like some gay shit out of a double xp weekend deal fortune cookie. You just move and shoot if you give a shit you'll figure it out. The skill carries over between games, as long as you're not a fricking invalid you'll be fine.
It's not a bad thing but it is why the genre is dead. Your typical FPS player is a simian that wants to click on people once and see them fall over. That's why CoD 4 dominated the market way back when and then tons of other games copied the ADS+Sprinting+Super-low-TTK formula.
>That's why CoD 4 dominated the market way back when and then tons of other games copied the ADS+Sprinting+Super-low-TTK formula
That was because consoles were the primary development focus and you can't aim on a controller. People have always liked all kinds of games and were begging for more fast paced oldschool games during the entire modern-military slog that followed modern warfare.
And yet the genre is still fricking dead as a doornail. There simply is not enough interest to make developing AFPS worth developer time and money. Every single AFPS title that has been released since that time has been a flop.
I DON'T WANT A NEW ONE I WANT PEOPLE TO PLAY ONE OF THE ONES WE ALREADY FRICKIN GOT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
It's kinda because TF2 basically perfected it as a genre by including the missing element of fricking over autists that don't understand fun and think winning is the only thing that matters.
I will respond one last time to this bait image of misguided wrong opinions by a dead man about Quake Champions that get reposted out of context.
Quake Champions was a game no one wanted, or to be more precise a fame made for nobody.
Younger generations want easy casual games with participation awards and skins and lucky wins like fartnight. They want instant gratification and not to get the only reward for their efforts be that they are a bit better than they were at the game yesterday.
Older generation didnt want Quakewatch. Old school Quake players didn't want champignons with different speeds, hp, and ultimate abilities. Fricking wall hack? Really?
And no one wanted shit optimization, disastrous laod times, long queues, some braindead new game mode, only a few maps, high system requirements...
>inb4 pros?
What about them Total Shitscuit? They all want to earn money and are longing for the glory days to come back. but even they play other shit and force themselves to train a bit of duels before Quakecon as the prize pool is high.
>inb4 the couple hundred homosexuals that play daily
They are not even worth mentioning considering the namesake of the game.
QC was a little too early. They made it on a Russian tech called the Saber Engine. Instead of waiting a bit and using idTech 6 it would have been a drastically better game. Instead it was outsourced to Russians. And when their contract ended they moved on from development.
You have some decent points but it still doesn't change the fact that nobody stepped in to fill the gap. If there was real demand for AFPS titles then surely this would've happened and the games would have been successful.
Stop remaking the same games. Make something new
DayZ and PUBG and fartnight already are something new akin to the rts -> moba
diabotical had a fair chance, but they made it egs exclusive and the character models aesthetically extremely unpleasing
>Xonotic
>Diabotical
>Every other not!quake3
>All have these stupid PG-13 robot models
Is it really so difficult to understand that the best part of quake 3 is your enemies exploding into red gore.
It's your fricking fault for expecting a AAA arena shooter but also the first thing you do is turn off every graphical quality and textures including abusing picmip to exploit visibility AND force player models to be the same fricking stupid hitbox filling model
you have to appeal to new players so they pick up the game and to advanced players so they keep playing at the same time, 'fault' is an unproductive word in this context
A fair chance at what? Nobody wants a Quake 3 clone. Live and 3 will be always the real deal
Most FPS games are not primarily played by people who want 1v1 duels. The vast majority of FPS titles on the market are either free for all deathmatches, team deathmatch, or some team oriented objective. Quake has these modes but duel is the big one. It is way WAY easier for a new player to get into a game when there's already a big playerbase and they have teammates to lean on in matches.
back in the early 2000s I remember loving Quake 2 FFA, it was very comfy and the movement wasn't as extreme as Quake 3, so you actually had a chance of killing someone. Plus the Q2's chaingun required almost no aiming.
Quake 3 on the other hand was a fricking nightmare, full of progamer tryhards that destroyed everyone in seconds and bunnyhopped at Sanic speed. Fricking unplayable, no wonder I stuck with the golden age of Half-Life mods.
that's just a normal reply but in greentext for no reason
>persecuted
?????
The color green makes me hapy
youtube makes a quake retrospective video essay about john carpenter inventing math and using it to make the best fps ever developed
link?
bros... I'm too old for shooters
I get easily killed by zoomers, I can't compete
Be a shotty main
You can't enjoy quake mp unless you get autistically good at it.
Which I don't think was ever intended. It was supposed to just he fun. Not insane elite tryhard pvp
>You can't enjoy quake mp unless you get autistically good at it.
not true
This is complete cope. I have less than a 100 hours on quake champions and when i played i could easily hold my own against veteran players and topfrag regularly. I guess the 5k tf2 hours helped, but still, the average player isn't some insane gamer food consuming pro. The problem is nobody fricking wants to play. OP is right - there's thousands of these plebians that like to sit and listen about muh epik arena shooters but refuse to play it.
If anyone in Europe and surrounding areas wants to play I can play some duels for an hour or two today.
Quakelive or quake 3 OSP
Quake Champions is really fun. I was never good at Quake Live but I can handle myself pretty well in QC.
There are like 3 quake 3 you gayot
Original Q3
Quake Live
Team Arena
>I suck to corporations
Open Arena exist you gayot it is literally Q3 only LIBRE and FOSS
Very interesting, but I feel no one but maybe you and I will give this a shake.
Maybe i'll bust this out during a lan party?
>Maybe i'll bust this out during a lan party?
You can download Open Arena and install it on unlimited numbers of PCs and no DRM.
It is literally superior to Q3 in every way.
The problem is that like with Q3 no one plays it and the game is abandoned now.
>a lan party?
Why not play it over the internet ?
>The problem is that like with Q3 no one plays it and the game is abandoned now.
yeah that's pretty much any game with no marketing team that can actually attract younger audiences.
>Why not play it over the internet ?
If I can find a populated server sure. I'm going to a lan party soon and hopefully I can get some of the gays there to play some older title like this, Warcraft 3, AOE, UT, etc.
>If I can find a populated server sure.
There are servers on the internet however empty also you can host your own server.
>OpenArena
Weak
>Vore Tournament
That name.
These are the search results....
YIKES.
No wounder this never took of.
When I was 12 I jacked off to the skins of the giant titty girls, a fine memory
>a fine memory
THESE WHERE THE DAYS.
>I jacked off to the skins of the giant titty girls
Egyptians, how do they do it?
God I wish that was me.
I play ut99 but I respect you
quake live never had the soul of q3a
Anyone in australia want some duels? I only have QL installed and I'm too bad for CPMA anyway.
You guys still host servers?
Playing DM on duel maps was a lot of fun.
what about open fortress
I'm playing the original Quake, which is superior.
I already do, kind of the only game i can enjoy nowdays.
Oh great anon, why does it feel my aim has plateued? My movement's good, my item control and map scene is nice, but I have the aim of a disabled person.
Try a decent mousepad, it's not a meme as many coping Tier 2's would like you to think.
I have a good mousepad and a zowie fk1. Good enough to do pretty much all the trick jumps so my hardware isn't the issue.
Use a mouse sensitivity value you feel comfortable with, do not listen to those "you're meant to play with low sens" type of persons if you never been a low sens player. It took me years to find the right spot to me because i kept getting memed into trying with low sens configs.
My only complaint about Quake community is the severe lack of furries/scalies. Normalgay are boring to interact with.
>playing on my tv
>Literally cannot land a single sniper shot
>Plug in an old PC monitor in my cupboard
>Land 5 or 6 first sniper shots, headshots
Literally unfair. Tech advantage, add to this people playing at higher framerates. It's unfair ground.
>add to this people playing at higher framerates
Even a $300 laptop can play Quake at hundreds of FPS these days.
I miss Champions
It was good until they fricked the netcode again and then just died off.
>ClownArena
>CA
It used to be fun when it was taken as the casual mode it was meant to be.
What was wrong with TDM? Its all I see played anymore.
>Overlord, Overlord remix, Campgrounds, Nameless Place, Almost Los, Asylum in rotation ad nauseam
Overkill and Eviscerated, not overlord and nameless place my bad
I love Quake Live but I wish they allowed the music mods when they ported it over to Steam
I used to have March of the Pigs whenever a round ended
Champions has bad netcode
im playing the new mission packs on the steam version of Q1, as for MP who has the time anymore , you have to play nearly every day to stay competitive besides QC is dead and i played enough live back in the day.
I wonder if a NuQuake will be announced
>Quake Live
>It's annoying that I can't just join a match without having to fricking wait.
I love quake beat arcane dimensions (incl the end) all on nightmare difficulty
But I'm not going to try and make up for a 20 year deficit, no point in playing against the same ole boomers who been playing the same ole game since the early 00s
>t. 2700 faceit
