Fans thought that Capcom had "realized their mistake" and were returning RE to true survival horror after RE6. This was... news to Capcom.
With RE3 Remake and RE4 Remake and Village and so on, older fans began to realize that Capcom wasn't listening to them. Fans who hated the movie version of Jill for being a snarky, foul mouthed butthole were shocked to find that remake Jill was cut from the same cloth. Instead of copying the original RE3, the remake basically takes HEAVY inspiration from the city chaos scenes in RE6, and the game largely plays like some Jill flashback scene that might have existed in RE6.

City Streets section is EASILY less than half the original size
Treatment plant is gone, Lab is a microscopic segment to replace it

the city was the best part of 3R though, you don't spend enough time there before you end up stuck in the damn sewers
