Age of Mythology is pretty close
i love tghat game, but seriously no itdoes not.
>shindu navvah comear
>play Warcraft 3
>ruins the Warcraft 3 campaign for me forever
I've beaten the Starcraft campaign 4 times in the past 3 years, still can't fricking stand the WC3 campaign
I feel like WC3 was the start of Blizzards 'everyone teams up to face the REAL villian'.
It was a good story, wasn't it? It's insane how rarely you get this in games. Even Blizzard itself failed to do good stories in WoW afterwards.
>LiterallyArchaeon but a necromancer
wooooooow, so good
Never heard of that. Clearly a forgotten garbage. Warcraft remains superior
You don't get a pass for being a plebian. Warcraft is objectively a reskinned Warhammer.
Reskinned into something better.,
You just said you didn't know Warhammer, so your opinion is worthless.
Reskin and Mishmash is a contradiction. Your argument is self defeating.
Hint: Not the same guy.
All blizzdrones are the same
Fricking lol, no. Warhammer/40k have consistency and respect for their settings and is unique enough that people say LotR and Warhammer define modern fantasy. No one will even remember or care about Blizzard settings in 10 years.
Warcraft 3 is literally the most influential game of all time, it was Warcraft that popularized huge pauldrons even though they were Warhammers thing.
>Warcraft 3 is literally the most influential game of all time
The most influential game of all time is Half Life 2 and the fact I have to say it really shows you are underage and moronic
Doom was more influential in the genre and even then both of their contributions pale in comparison to the amount of influence Warcraft holds over the industry, in everything from visuals to tropes to genres etc
Like I said, you are both underage and absolutely moronic.
>Warcraft 3 is literally the most influential game of all time
Apart from introducing some new ideas into RTS games it did nothing special. HL2 completely revolutionised gaming in a way that every single modern FPS/TPS game uses what it established over a decade ago.
0/10 shit thread, OP is a homosexual
/thread
>killed RTS, spawned MOBA, spawned WoW which dominates MMOs even today
>half of all phone games are stealing ideas and visuals from Warcraft 3
>half of all game graphics are specifically aping Warcraft 3
Meanwhile no one fricking cares about single player FPS games, they all play them for the multiplayer. TES3 and GTA3 were more influential than HL2 in that people still care about the concepts they introduced, story based single player FPS games turned out to be a relative fad.
>spawned MOBA and MMOs
that's "influential" alright
Yep, the games it spawned have tournaments with prize pools in the tens of millions, meanwhile the prize pools of the games influenced by Half-Life:
Name some
>judging games by the amount of money put into them
god, i hate you homosexuals
That's what influence means buddy, I hate WoW passionately but it is undeniably an influential game
i never said it wasn't influential, the implication was that it's a negative influence. the fact that whales and suits dictate what games are made has been a disaster
Literally every single modern game ever uses mechanics/features established in HL2, try again underage moron
Technology > individual games
Get a history lesson
>Warhammer/40k have consistency
Oh lawdy I am laffin
Warhammer is just a reskinned mishmash of Dune and LotR
it's more like a judge dredd reskin that later turned into dune
I mean you're both absolutely wrong.
Its mad max, conan and british football stadiums.
>Archaeon
I am not familiar with this, tell me more.
>Archaeon
you mean Archaon you fricking secondary normalBlack person go back to playing TWW
>Misspel a word
>"HEH, GOTCHA KID!"
>try to impress random anons with your """obscure""" knowledge that warcraft is based on warhammer
>Too much of a secondary to even know how to spell one of the most popular characters in the setting
Maybe next time, i'm sure you'll definitely impress people by knowing warcraft is based on warhammer, not many people know that. Good work, keep it up.
>Obscure
Holy fricking projection. He's one of the most common names in the franchise. Games including him are still being made, and the setting is more popular than Warcraft at this point. You only think it's obscure because you're a seething blizzdrone.
you're too moronic to pick up on sarcasm you dumb gorilla Black person, go read a book and stop replying to me
>merely pretending
Okay.
>having the reading comprehension of a brick
Okay.
Write something coherent. You won't. Because you can't.
He put the word obscure in three sets of quotation marks, I don't know how it could be more obvious that he was being facetious
>It was a good story, wasn't it?
good? no. well put together? yes.
>DUDE corruption lmao
It needed something else, you can't just give corruption as your answer to everything. Like half or more of the races in the game were spawned from corruption, almost every motive is ultimately just an excuse to get corrupted, everyone is constantly striving towards corruption. It's okay for the human campaign, but gets tedious beyond that. The only other interesting part of the game was the starting orc campaign, which was about exploring and taming a foreign land, which of course quickly devolves into corruption fetishism.
>which of course quickly devolves into corruption fetishism.
it's sorta corruption sorta giving into temptation. grom honestly shouldn't have seen the error of his ways and remained unrepentant. kind of like garrosh now that i think about it
If you could apply that reductionism to your calorie intake you wouldn't be bedbound.
Actually they just keep copying starcraft's story
wouldn't necessarily call it a well written story but it is perfectly serviceable just as it should be
not the most technical, deep or developed story but holy frick is it fun, every single character is cool as all frick, every lives and dies by the rule of cool
you go from a paladin with a giant hammer to mega wizard with badass spells to shaman on a wolf chain lightning everything to shirtless 90s action hero orc samurai
say what you want about it but there isn't a fantasy rts that even comes close to the vibe of this game
It's incredible how badly WoW butchered the lore, and almost immediately too, TBC was a clusterfrick and Wrath, while cool, really wasn't a satisfying conclusion to the wc3 plots. Everything beyond that may as well be fan fiction.
Anyway, I get that Warcraft lore has never been amazing, it's mostly a pastiche of warhammer, lotr, & d&d thrown together by a bunch pf drunk nerds, it wasn't shakespeare. But that's almost exactly what made it work, it was just fun and campy, and told in a really enjoyable way and built a rich fantasy world with some cool fresh twists. It was dope. And while the story format of the rts games could never fully translate to an mmo, vanilla wow did a decent job of worldbuilding and making you feel like azeroth was a living world. The story wasn't huge stakes, but it didnt need to be, warcraft always thrived on that element of adventure and mystery.
And then starting in TBC they just started making every poor decision possible. They treated major lore characters with zero respect, started retconning shit flippantly, dropping plotlines left and right. Important zones like azjol nerub were just dropped, and they abandoned any continued worldbuilding of azeroth to keep cramming in new, retconned continents every xpac. It's a joke. Again, it was never great, but they threw out all attempts at internal consistency, characterization, anything. All they had to do was follow the beats set up in wacraft, there was a logical story progression leading ip to sargeras that they just shat all over to make their stupid oc shit, it's astounding, you could write a book on it, its like step by step how not to write a story

The fact no one in video games has managed to top that in 20 years of games after is defeating
the original blizzard team may not have told spectacular narratives, but they had a really good and strong sense of aesthetics and symbolism. an image says a thousand words, etc.
you can look at their cinematics and early art, and immediately get a very strong sense of exactly how the characters being presented are like. wow actually does this well also. or did, anyway.
agreed. samwise and metzens art was iconic.
did aby of you ever play with the WC3 map editor? like
said it's such an intuitive and fun engine to craft worlds in, it really lets your imagination run wild. You can get into it and really feel how the vision of warcraft came about from the spirit of some loose nerds, playing warhammer and smoking joints, doodling sketches of dwarves drinking beer, listening to metal and talking about wizards and badass knights, and they had such a great tool to bring it to life. The game is just dripping in, dare I say soul, and I think thats why its spawned so many successful fangames and of course wow.
Play Warcraft 3 custom campaigns from hiveworkshop. Some of them are fricking great. You might need specific versions of WC3 to play some of them since they're intended for certain patches, but you can find these in places.
Just look at this fricking thing, it is the tightest shit.
https://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/curse-of-the-forsaken-v3-0-1.228049/
P.S. Starcraft 2's campaign is pretty good as well, story is much worse tho
That looks pretty sweet
It's not the only one either, there's so many good ones it's insane
Sharing the link to view campaigns only in descending rating order because it's a fricking bastard to find otherwise
https://www.hiveworkshop.com/repositories/maps.564/?tags[31]=i&order=rating&direction=desc
If you need an older build of WC3 (these don't work on reforged, it was one of the features that got totally removed), you can find them on the forum
The WC3 map maker tool was incredible in what it let you make. Even a moron like me was easily able to put together whole, complex maps with cinematics and everything in them, though they broke apart fast since I just used the 'kinda like coding but for morons' system they had innate rather than learning to actually code better scripts.
But at some point down the line of game updates, all my custom maps broke and now I can't even open them anymore. Sad.
I know a good number of maps broke when they did the update preceding reforged. might be able to open them again if you pirate an old version and just load the maps from that
I played the custom campaigns that were like adaptations of the warcraft books. I think by OutsiderXE. Really fun and well made
Arthas was just a watered down Anakin Skywalker, which was popular when the game came out. It was so obvious it was cringe.
Glad you could make it, Uther.
>hearthstone arthas says this smug as frick when you fight uther
surprising amount of soul, too bad the actual game sucks
Not even the best Blizzard campaign. The Starcraft campaigns are better.
I loved the story and the characters and the gameplay was fun by the end but there are so many gimicky bullshit missions and so many missions with uninspired objectives that I wouldnt play it again on hard ever again. The worst part was how fricking slowly units kill each other and buildings and how little microing your regular dudes matters. SC1 will be forever superior in gameplay (even though that game has the fault of 80% of the base game being ridiculously easy)
in most RTS the hard difficulty is just gay and not worth doing
Sounds like something someone bad at video games would say.
Shit take, I very much enjoyed a gane actually being hard for once.
When I first played Warcraft 3 I started to mouth randomly like the character portraits did when they were talking and my dad hit and told me to stop acting like a moron.
Warcraft II > Warcraft III
>play Warcraft 3 and TFT
>warcraft lore is ruined forever
TBC was a mistake, when I saw what they turned the Draenei into I stopped being interested in the series.
I've been trying wotlk classic just because it's the only game I could get friends to all get together and play and in the culling of Stratholme dungeon it's funny to me, but it feels like they tried their hardest to make Arthas sound more unhinged than he did in wc3. I can't help but imagine that people arguing in favor of what Arthas did must have made the writers mad.
Warcraft remains my favorite fantasy setting in any videogame, it's the only lore I've ever cared about.
Arthas storyline is fricking great. It's basically darth vader but done one thousand times better.
i'll never forgive blizzard for killing WC3
im so glad they are on life support nowadays
