Why is Cold Steel 3 so damn easy. First Trails game that I started on Nightmare and around chapter 3 I stopped dying to bosses.
I was struggling a lot on some bosses on Hard in the Crossbell games.

Look up almost any tier list literally anywhere. Crossbell is always on the top and coldsteel is usually all over the place. You'll get the occassional Sky SC and 3rd in top tier over everythign else too. You're the one that needs to touch grass (and talk to more people).

I think CS one does a better job of building up to it's climactic finish. You constantly get hints of things brewing in the background and the chapters gradually escalate the tension of the conflict but I feel like for as much as I do like the comfy vibes of FC it's a bit too light on build up until the final chapter just does it all at once. I think CS1 is the best paced opening game.

Ok, time for the contrarian take here. I don't think Sky's characters are very compelling. Kevin and Olivier are the only real interesting characters. I unironically thought Cold Steel's cast was better. For all the criticisms I see of Cold Steel's cast being walking anime tropes, that criticism applies equally so to Sky.
yeah it didn't feel that way for me at all and I've played through the series twice (or almost, couldnt finish CS3 and 4 again with how much of a slog they are)
it's not about the character themselves, the Sky cast feels a lot more likable and genuine when it comes to the interactions between them and they never come across as ridiculous and dehumanized which happens quite often in CS in the several scenes where you have a group of 10+ people each saying their own line one after the other because the writer want to give everyone a millisecond of spotlight
None of the Kiseki characters are particularly interesting by themselves, characters aren't good because they're deep, they don't need to be Dak'kon or Emet (who also happen to be lackluster compared to well developed characters from good novels, this basically never ends). What matters is what you do with them, that's why the CS cast is so disliked (compared to the older ones) by new and olgays alike even if most of the characters, taken individually, are not at fault.
Basically the exact opposite of that is why I think CS has the better characters, it's how they are when they AREN'T in the group that I found compelling. The school parts have all the characters not even do anything with Rean. That's WHY it's good. CS1 makes the cast feel like they exist outside of the party. They have their own friends, they have their own hobbies, they have their own aspirations. They feel real and living in the world. Sky to me always made me feel like characters just disappeared when it wasn't time for them to be a part of the plot. Sky to me has the better plot but I think it lacks in the characters because the characters feel like they only exist to service the plot. It felt inorganic. Now that I think about it what CS does well and doesn't do well are exactly the opposite of what Sky does well and doesn't do well cause your criticisms of CS where characters are forced to say something does feel forced. You're right.

Yeah ironically this is what made me like them more, they felt more distinct. I don't see how you can come to the conclusion that Sky characters don't feel real because they also have their own thing going on. But the overall cast is smaller so Agate won't have a lot of off screen friends, it's mostly his old gang. But everything in Sky is smaller in scale so nothing is really jarring on that front.
I also think that the 3D hurts the series as a whole when it comes to staging and animations, imo the sprites are more expressive, the characters moved better in the environment too. No animated fight in the entire CS arc comes close to the Loewe vs Joshua. Falcom had an awesome 2D and Kiseki obviously used to benefit from Ys's dynamic and sharp animations.It has nothing to do with the writing of course but aside from sexy asses, Falcom had no business adding this shitty 3D

Every Kiseki entry has slow enough pacing that nothing feels rushed and party member always have a lot of interactions with each other which makes them feel human.

Yeah, they interact with each other. But that's it. I liked seeing all the characters of Class 7 have their own clubs that they interact with. It was fun going as Rean and seeing the characters just exist on their own living their own lives. It's why I've never understood the criticism of CS's cast revolving around Read. CS has the cast that LEAST revolves around it's protagonist. You never say characters do things on their own in Sky or Crossbell. Or at least not to the degree CS does. It's shit like that that makes me think most people who hate CS just sped through the entire thing doing nothing but the main story and ignored talking to npcs during the down time which were the best parts of the game. I kind of understand the criticism regarding Rean, it's not really the cast but more the plot itself.
Up until CS4 none of class 7 were even hinted to have a love interested because Rean just siphons every girl. Lloyd did too, to a lesser extent (and Randy - Mireille had far more weight to it than Macchias - Pattiry lmao) and in Sky there was a pairing for every party member.
But that's only when it comes to relationships. Power level wise, the Rean jerkoff goes too far. The Yun Kafai letter in CS3 where he claims that Rean is his ultimate pupil who will achieve more than Cassius and Arios is really cringe. Granted, I tend to get angry when lazy writers try to up the stakes by downplaying everything that came before. It never works

I always find it interesting how much opinions vary on this series because for me CS1 is the worst paced opening game and the weakest game of its arc. I still really like it I just thought it should've been much shorter similar to FC and that would've solved the only problem I have with it.

Literally every time someone criticizes the pacing of the Cold Steel games it's always "it's too long". That's not pacing. You just wanted the plot to progress more. To me and otehr people who like Cold Steel and the other Kiseki games, the plot is a secondary factor. To me I enjoy the comfy school times where it's just characters living life just as much(probably more actually) than I do when the actual plot is happening.
No need to be so defensive, it's my favorite series and even if it's my least favorite CS I still love the game. I had no problem with the plot itself, I just thought it took a bit too long to get there. I like the slow-paced comfy vibes of these games, it's one of the main appeals but I had no problem with FC and Zero because they're much shorter. Just personal tastes no big deal.

Not really, coldsteel just sucks that bad. It's also the only arc that "finishes" in two games. Sky is 3, coldsteel is 5. Kuro is 3 (pending...). It's easy to see why people like crossbell solely because of Azure being packed with happenings unlike most trails game where you're just fricking around being a janitor for 90% of the game then something happens.
The bulk of Reverie's plot is based on wrapping up loose ends from Crossbell.
The entirety of the plot in Reverie is centered around the curse and finally getting rid of it this time for sure while also combining it with Crossbell's liberation. It's something they really didn't need to shove into coldsteel in the first place since it was shown at the end of Azure's ending that they would get it back. Coldsteel did a lot of stupid decisions.
A lot of CS plot is dragged down with wrapping up Crossbell shit instead of focusing on its own plot. The curse is a sideshow to Crossbell's liberation for the bulk of Reverie.

The worst parts of reverie was everything outside of <C> route. Don't pretend as if coldsteel section would have been good if crossbell wasn't forced into it either. Eitherway my point is that it would have never been an issue if coldsteel didn't randomly decide to try to cling onto crossbell goodwill for their plummeting sales and then end up unable to close off anything about the curse due to how much crossbell story beats they included in 3 and 4.

There wasn't actually any reason for it other than drawing out the plot instead of having Lloyd and co. take down the Rufusbot straight away. This is the same group that brought one of the strongest people around to her knees yet for some reason they can't even take out a beefed up Rufus and some literal mooks.
It's a bit symbolic, for lack of a better word. As Lloyd explains, they had forgotten what the SSS was originally about and after the Erebonian occupation had become too fixated on being "The Heroes of Crossbell" as an idea rather than actually help the citizens and be there with them as equals as they were supposed to, since they're just normal people at the end of the day. Basically, they had allowed themselves to be turned into symbols and were swallowed by those expectations as if they alone could single handedly protect Crossbell, which made them lose their way, hence losing the fight when it mattered most.

It's worse. ZTD was one moronic game, CS4 retroactively ruined a build up of at least 6 games (sky 3rd, ao, cs1 to 4). It killed the enjoyment of many who just dropped the series altogether because of it.
The twist itself isn't as dumb as ZTD but it did far worse for the series' story and world.
The Highs are the incredibly connected universe whose games only take place a couple months to a year at most between each other. The world evolves with each new world-state when something happens and the NPC dialogue across a chapter reflects this. It's actually downright amazing how much work was put into the smaller details to make the world feel really alive. Even when the games' writing quality dips, the world-building is still at the top of its game. I can remember how an NPC in the very first tutorial town in the first game has an arc that carries over to the 5th game. I'd say the quality remains solid up until the end of the 5th game.
The Lows are how formulaic it becomes. When you have this many characters, killing any of them off becomes incredibly inconvenient and the longer the game goes on, the stakes get ever higher but even LESS people end up dying. I'd even compare it to the frickfest of the final Naruto arc. The cast becomes way too bloated and Coldsteel only exacerbates this condition by making like 11 PARTY MEMBERS and then adding even fricking more with each successive game. Then there was a personal part to the story I REALLY didn't like so I just gave up on all of it.

Played sky and then the first 2 cold steel games, the first 2 cold steel games genuinely ended up being some of my favorite games ever, then I got hard burned out by 3 midwayish through, none of the new characters are likeable, everyone in the initial new class in particular are bad, Kurt and Altina spent most of the time that I played being background characters with no personality while Juna is just annoying and that's without getting in to the other issues
I want to eventually come back to the series since I already know Joshua and Estelle come back in the 4th game but slogging through 3 has made me put it off

End of Kuro 1. She doesn't appear in kuro 2 for whatever reason except in one cutscene at the end. You can mod her to be completely playable from the beginning if you care enough in both games.

If you want Rixia, you need to choose neutral in kuro 1. Also yeah you can get general mods from LL. I did it myself with kuro 2

As long as you're doing quests it should be fine. It's pretty hard not to get all three alignments up.
Bracers are law alignment rank 3
Heiyuee (rixia) are neutral rank 3
Ouroboros are chaos rank 3
Shizuna is getting all three to rank 3
Regardless, when the time comes you'll be able to choose any of the 4 if you have all three at rank 3

Apparently it just means being Cao's lapdog again for kuro 1, which is weird that she didn't show up in kuro 2 at all considering how involved Cao is in kuro 2. Falcom are just throwing her in for lazy fan service at this point and doing what she should be doing to Shizuna instead. Shizuna is a free roaming contractor which is what I expected they would end up doing with Rixia after Azure but they never did.
So I actually like Kuro, but yeah, Falcom went full moron wioth Rixia in Kuro. Basically they threw her development out the windo because they wanted to include her in the game. I kind of get it, Heiyue is lame as frick and they needed even just one likable character top help them out. Unfortunately, just shoehorning her in wasnt bad enjough, they tried to rewrite her back story and make her super best pals with Judith which didn't work either.
