Not as much as I'd like to be. I work from home, which does afford me a great deal of comfort, but I still go out regularly, whether it's to walk my dogs, buy groceries or anything else really.
I'd enjoy going full recluse, setting up in some mountains in a cabin, all by myself. I don't even need internet really, just periodically get books for myself to read. Trouble is, I'd require a great deal of money to accomplish that.

You want to get into dev? The pay can be good and there's a lot of work going around so if you don't like where you're at just leave and you'll find something else, but it can be pretty stressful. People are pushing the absolute max they can onto you and I've found that even as a dev, you're constantly answering to management and end users.
To me, I pictured sys admin as being even less people focused. You don't think that's the case though?

Hmm, the devs I'm used to dealing with only get bothered by intermediaries - and those are above myself and they themselves only get bothered by me - so I guess it depends what kind of dev work you're doing? This is a mid-size company I'm in, the devs seem to be pretty insulated, only report to management, no clients can reach them directly at all.

My guild fell apart because logging in was basically impossible for an entire month before i left, and when you did eventually get in, you would get 500 ping minimum. And it was also an era when balance wasn't considered as important. And when they did consider balance it was weighted a lot differently. Rogues for instance are the best pvp class for open world and hunters are the best levelers. That was on purpose, they just get to be the best at these game aspects and the balance is they are worse at entirely different game aspects. This had to do with the general philosophy that the world was supposed to be a big place you could explore, get lost in, discover things. You probably wouldn't gear up or quest in the most optimum way but you would do it in a way that feels like you are carving your own path. It's also much more rewarding to do group content especially for some classes who are going to be bad experiences soloing if you are new and dont know how to route.
The game does have a very competitive and lively "end game" but because it was something added on near the end it's very chunky and quirky. Many people would say that old wow had the best leveling and new wow has the best end game.
If you want to make friends pick a class that can heal or tank pre-60 dungeons. Mages are also a good option as they can make free food for out of combat healing. For profession I would advice skinning+mining or skinning+herbalism (which would be collecting stuff just to sell them on the auction house) or herbalism+alchemy (potion making). Dont pick enchanting.
