Like there is no actual connection or friendship established. The "bond" we share is just the brief talks we have in-game then that's it. Some people do ask for discord/TG/whatever and I provide, but even there we talk a few very brief times then just sorta fizzle away?
This happens with 100% the people I meet, I can never hold onto someone long term as a friend I just have no drive to do....I don't know? whatever it is I have to do to keep someone around to actually have a friend.

I relate to this. I feel like I haven’t made any close friends since the end of high school and I barely ever see those guys anymore since they all got married and had kids. Every time I try to make new friends at work it feels so forced and there’s just 0 spark/connection there even when we are laughing or having a good time.
It feels like the only time I’m comfortable and can really be myself is when I’m alone, but the crushing feeling of loneliness always lingers in the back of my mind.
It's really just luck of the draw. I found a group that consistently meets up to play.
Try to horn your way into one of those groups instead of just adding one or two people on a dead discord server.
That, and joining/inviting people you've added to your games consistently. Make em feel like you like hanging out with them. Rarely do people take initiative for that sort of thing.

Most people have terminally shit taste and the few good avatars are usually kept private. I've seen a few hot female furry avatars but the majority are even worse than that video. The same can be said for anime style ones with the only upside being that the popular base models are a little better.

They work fantastic after you get done with some jank. They are incredibly accurate and capable of most poses, frick what thrillvr said, his vid is out of date. It does take some setting up, but once you have them set they work near flawlessly.
HOWEVER: DIY slimes atm mostly are made with MPU6050, which while very accurate, start drifting very fricking fast. Production slimed will use a combination of two new chipsets (frickin forgot the name) and they start to drift after an hour of use. But fixing the drift is literally a single button click and standing still for a moment.

Depends on what you're looking for. I was at a weeb avatar museum recently with something to the tune of 500 avatars, they had a bunch of stuff, from booth cats to robots to some anime dudes. Granted a bunch of them had sample bullshit floating on them, but many didn't and I walked away with a couple.
booth.pm itself also has several free models at this point too. You can also get older free JP bases on bowlroll.net and 3d.nicovideo.jp. hub.vroid.com/en/ despite being for vroid initially, seems to have a bunch of stuff not made in vroid that you can directly view there. I would avoid deviantart and vrcmods for everything but rips from video games, or maybe clothing you can fit onto a different base.

I guess we use it like a living museum to motivate each other to improve our design skills in a lot of ways. Also it's fun to DJ in VRC and there are some really world class DJs that perform every so often that are worth attending their events
The Oculus Quest is a cheap virtual reality headset that also has a standalone client. This is the client at that all the kids that got a VR headset for Christmas use. If you don't join worlds that are compatible with quest-standalone, you cut out a lot of those types of people that can't figure out how to use the desktop version of the game.
There are plenty of 20-somethings in VRChat but it can be tought breaking past the public-private divide. Either try VR communities outside of VRChat or look in non-quest game/activity worlds.
That's the meta-game and it depends what you're interested in. Googling for relevant discords is the easiest way to get in quick, or just go to worlds relevant to your interests, chat a bit and add people that are cool. Wanna see music events, go to a club world and add people because they'll lead you to clubs. Wanna get drunk and talk shit? Go to a bar world and start adding people. Wanna play games? You get the idea.
Once you have just a few friends who are active users, it becomes very easy to find interesting stuff

VRChat is probably a good way to help with that imo. Initiating conversations is hard, but I've found that briefly RPing in certain worlds (like bartending in pubs/clubs) is a pretty good way to break the barrier of stranger interaction. After conversation is started that way, ideally conversation will flow naturally and then you can ditch the RP and just chat with people. Also, literally nothing stopping you from leaving the world if you're uncomfortable. Test yourself, try pushing your limits little by little. Good luck fella.

What does the "quest" refer to and how does it help find older players? I just played the maps that were suggested upon first logging in.

vrchat doesn't let you read people's facial expressions and takes away a super important part of meta communication and makes you learn wrong habits. people can control what they say with ease, they can also just shut up and not say anything to control their tone, but most often they don't control their facial expression. that's the best source of knowing what kind of emotions your behavior is triggering out of people and vrchat takes exactly that away.
Isn't it great? I hate making sure my facial expression isn't telling my real thoughts.

Months ago someone on here shilled this world and since then it's been my consistent favorite by far. It has so much soul in the details you can find all over, the multiple bus and tram lines, the hidden laser puzzle that resets every day, shit like that. It's low detail but there's so much obvious effort put into it that I just love hanging around there and now I must shill it once again.

Just tried it out for the first time, is this a very demanding game for most PCs? I have a 2019 gaming laptop with a 1660ti and it was a borderline unplayable framerate. Could it be my internet connection?
It's notoriously unoptimized since it uses a single core, especially if other players don't optimize their own avatars.
I didn’t really know what I was doing. I walked into this portal in the hub world that took me to this bird island. There was one guy who’s avatar took up like 1/3 of the map and a bunch of kids turned into those bigass spiders from Skyrim and then the fps went to shit

VRChat is probably a good way to help with that imo. Initiating conversations is hard, but I've found that briefly RPing in certain worlds (like bartending in pubs/clubs) is a pretty good way to break the barrier of stranger interaction. After conversation is started that way, ideally conversation will flow naturally and then you can ditch the RP and just chat with people. Also, literally nothing stopping you from leaving the world if you're uncomfortable. Test yourself, try pushing your limits little by little. Good luck fella.

Honestly VRC has just made me aware of how lonely I am as a person. I want a cute bf so bad but all the digital and ethereal interaction just breaks me. It reminds me that all the VR headpats in the world can't change the fact I go lay in bed alone every night to go to some souless 9 to 5 the next day and back to nothing day in and out.
