I played through it for the first time a few weeks ago and was surprised how fantastic the voice acting, along with the general animation quality was. Has some of the best voice acting of the time, right up there with MGS IMO. The main cast is super charismatic and fun, and the servbots are adorable. Everyone is super expressive too
I really liked the voice acting in the first one. It was 2 that fricked it up for me. Megamans OG voice in Legends 1 was a pretty good fit.
I also played it when it came out and played nothing like it. You controlled an action figure in this fantasy nuts and bolts world. I didn't have another good 3D game, as the only other 3D game I had at the time was Mario 64. Legends was so good, I imported Tronne Bonne when it came out, and played hte Dash 2 demo.
IT WAS FRICKING AMAZING. So in '99 I imported it too. Dash 2 is so much better than Legends. The demo was great too.

Why the frick did they make the dungeons in this game so goddamn spooky. On the surface it's just a happy little island town of friendly people. Then you go down under and it's a quiet nightmarish ruin.
And that's why the atmosphere is so amazing
sounds like an issue you had with the dark when you were a kid and the viewing distance of the game was short in dungeons
You got me Anon. This game scared the frick out of me when I was younger. In fact, I'm 25 and this is the first time I've sat down and beat it. And I'm glad I did because it was fun as frick. Shame about the length though. I'm dreading trying the second since they raped the voice acting so hard

The voice acting is great, better than games that came out a decade later. Its cartoony, on purpose.
Exploration is great. Setting is great. Characters are great. Graphics are great.

It gets by on charm, sense of adventure, and fun customization/upgrades.
Gameplay-wise it's pretty clunky and you can circumvent most of the challenge by infinitely circling enemies/bosses, but it's a fun world to explore with fun characters.
I also don't think the dub's voice acting is really that bad, especially for the era.
The game is just comfy in a way that very few other games have captured.

i used to play it back then and replay it every now and then even these days. it's super fun, super comfy and has a great gameplay system. i like the sequel even more. it's really not hard to see why everyone finds this so appealing.

Lol what in the frick? The dub is literally one of the most impressive parts of the game. All of the voices match the characters and scenes about as well as you could possibly expect. Only bad voice is Megaman’s in MML2 and even then it’s not actually “bad” the way voices in RE or Castlevania: SotN are bad.
Tron's voice is really hit or miss depending on the line and delivery but otherwise I agree
Compare it to the Megaman 8 or X4 dub. Or Resident Evil's voice acting. Megaman Legends sounds incredible compared to the other games at the time.

Because despite its obvious limitations (early 3d controls and graphics) it still comes off as a very charming game. The dated controls don't matter because the game is piss easy, and the art style they chose works insanely well with the Playstation's low-poly nature.
