Playing Ape Escape for the first time and its actually really fun. I heard the movement is bad, but it actually feels really great. Why is this series dead?
Playing Ape Escape for the first time and its actually really fun. I heard the movement is bad, but it actually feels really great. Why is this series dead?
>Why is this series dead?
because sony went from a japanese powerhouse to a bunch of soulless californian subhumans.
how come this gif of amazo goes so hard
watch justice league the animated series.
Thread ends here
Snoy decided that making games was boring and decided to instead make 2 AAA movies a year
Ape Escape 1, 2 and 3 are all great though
Because anons would rather make threads about the worst girl in the series than discuss the gameplay.
I have like a gigabyte of e-girl on my computer ngl
relax sweet cheeks the games were a dualshock tech demo
Who let the zoomies in?
Zoomers don't know the psx had a controller before the dualshock
The psx didn't, the ps1 did
Peak midwit
>Hey Anon wanna come over and play some PS1?
>PS1, don’t you mean the PSX?
>No! I call it the PS1 because there will be a PS2 five years feom now! The PSX is a dvd player that will come out six years from now!
People just called it a Playstation you fricking moron
Uh-huh
I'm not talking about magazines
If you asked someone on the street, they'd call it a Playstation. The average person wasn't reading these, it was just like the nintendo
>hey, anon, come over and play nintendo power with me!
moron
Calling it PSX outs you as a tryhard. We get it, you heard the same misinformation as all us other boomers.
Why are people such boneheads? Why post about it on Reddit when the answers take 2 seconds to look up. Why not have common sense and just assume that it came before the duelshock?
They're just whoring for karma. Typical redditor behavior really.
They want crave human interaction instead of knowledge.
>Why is this series dead?
idk you should ask killzone, parappa the rapper, twisted metal, and wipeout about it
thanks sony
And Syphon Filter, Gravity Rush, Legend of Dragoon, Resistance, Jak & Daxter, Patapon... and so many many more. There is really no other company in the industry that hates their legacy and their IPs more than Playstation
why do you need more than 3 patapon games or more than 6 syphon filter games, or more than 5 resistance games. why milk these franchises when they have plenty out already and the devs have moved on to new IP
tbqh this would be better than what they have now. why does nintendo get a free pass to milk their IPs? if you have a good IP why would you not continue to use it at least once each gen?
>the devs have moved on to new IP
The devs of most of the games I've listed have been fired by Sony. Both from the Japan Studio ips or from others like Syphon Filter which was made by Bend Studio which has lost most of its old talent. Or most of the og crew of Naughty Dog that did Crash and Jak, no longer there, for a while now. No, they didn't "move on to new ip". Sony just tossed aside their old ones and discarded any devs that wouldn't adapt to their modern movie game focus
Why do you need remakes of remasters?
i dont, thats why i didnt buy it. but im not gonna cry about it when others do
The new IP are shit
Why does Sony need 8 Gran Turismos and God of Wars, or 6 Uncharteds then?
because any one of those sells millions more than any ape escape title has. support the games you like, you shouldve actually bought ape escape games while you could
>and the devs have moved on to new IP
because their new ips suck massive wiener anon, that's why, with not remotely the level of passion, care, polish or even good gameplay styles
these games had multiple entries and lasted a long time, and people want more of them, because they were good. players want more quality equivalent to a bygone era. its perfectly possible to create a new game just as good as syphon filter or whatever and have it spawn 6 sequels today, but it DOESN'T HAPPEN, because people rarely make actually good shit. its all limited scope, shit quality, shit depth, normie fodder focused on va and cutscenes
Because I LIKE THE GAMEPLAY. Why does everyone say this about games with sequels? Why do I need a hundred Megaman games? Maybe it's because I like those 100 Megaman games and I want more of them? Maybe it's because I like the three Patapon games and want them to continue making more while improving on the mechanics? Maybe it's because it's a series with a unique world I like and I want them to continue in it?
Thank God R&C is still around at the very least.
What are you talking about? Every major Japanese game company has dropped tons of franchises at this point. Most of them make like one game a year. Only exception is Bamco
this is probably bait by some Gankertard. most plebbitors jumped on the LoU 2 hate bandwagon. I hate it too, but for the right reasons
You’d be surprised
ayy at least we have Horizon ... right ??
Sony are gays is why, I would love a 4 or a remake of 1
This might be the only thing Sony could possibly do to make me buy another one of their consoles.
Because of the way Sony is
>the movement is bad
???? Who the frick said that?
some gay the other day, it sounded wrong so I figured i'd see for myself. its actually real slick.
Mariogroids famously hate ape escape, it's weird how they get like this. Enjoy the game and the excellent music.
>Mariogroids
Shut the frick up you obnoxious shit, this isn't a console war thread.
The frick are you talking about Ape Escape is one of my favorite series
>some guy said something so its completely true
jesus anon
I always see it get compared to SM64. You know, the highest standard for 3D platformer movement? AE is a little stiff, but it's an unfair comparison.
I still find it hard to believe they closed SIE studios but allegedly they moved the staff or some of them to Asobo, the studio that makes the astrobot thing, I forgot what else they did though.
japan studio was 90% a support studio for other jap devs. with a few small teams like asobi and team silent etc. most of the real developers there left to form their own teams, and all that was left was asobi and like 400 support artists. japan studio was already very redundant as support when sony XDEV can do the same, and proven to have picked better 2nd party titles. all that was removed from japan were the 100s of artists not working on anything
That only happened after the french bastard that was in charge of the team Asobi coup'd his way to be the president of the entire Japan Studio. After he got total control of the Japan Studio, all the old and good devs there decided to quit since Sony and that moron didn't wanted them there.
>all that was removed from japan were the 100s of artists not working on anything
moron.
>I still find it hard to believe they closed SIE studios but allegedly they moved the staff or some of them to Asobo
others went to square.
and Nintendo poached top names too.
lmao.
morons.
Sony Computer Entertainment of America has always been a cancer.God of War did nothing but fuel their egos that they were the "face" of Sony so it's of no surprise at all that Japan Studio eventually ate itself considering the years SCEoA continuaously shat on them.
Spectre is a honkey, why did he ape out?
>be me
>started uni with my friends
>we all live in the same complex
>regularly go round to friends to play games, including AE 3
>we laugh and have a jolly good time
>especially with simian cinema
>we all went our seperate ways
>now whenever I hear the AE 3 credits theme I think back to those joyous days
>i've never felt that close since and feel like I'll never be happy on this earth
>the monkey game credits music makes me tear up
The feeling of netting an ape with its visual/audio effects is the greatest dopamine in video games.
I think they’re trying to simulate cumming
Did anyone else play way too much Monkey Soccer in Ape Escape 2? Even though it was just a little side game, it was pretty fricking fun. Also a good incentive to catch more monkeys so you could use them on your soccer team.
I spent so many hours playing it I might have played it kore than the main game, it was such a fun minigame
theres been 14 ape escape titles total, move on. no reason to milk a franchise forever.
>The Last Of Us: Part 1 Remastered: Remaster: Recoded: GOTYAY Edition: PS5 port edition: Revengeance
>The Last Of Us: Part 1 Remastered: Remaster: Recoded: GOTYAY Edition: PS5 port edition: Revengeance
TLOU has sold more than the entire Ape Escape franchise combined
I see, which means its better because uh sales = quality
higher rated and more awards than the entire ape escape franchise too
You're right, and SAO has sold far better than Gasaraki which means SAO is superior.
True. Upvotes on Reddit and prestigious awards from the Game Awards are a great measure of quality
This has to be bait. It's not possible for a human to have so low IQ
There has only been 3 maybe 4 games that are purely ape escape games. The frick are you talking about 14
>please milk this franchise sony!
>nooo, not like that
Are you genuinely moronic?
there are 14 ape escape titles, frick off and enjoy them
oh you ARE moronic
ape escape is MY game, don't you EVER fricking post this game again
Time to derail the thread
Sayaka
I want a panties mod that replaces her bike shorts/one piece shirt she wears under he jacket
You know I was thinking about playing this for the first time just a few hours ago. I decided to play Year of the Dragon instead.
damn bro you fricked up, this game slaps
do both. they're both fun.
Spyro games aren't very long I'll finish it in a few days then move on to Ape Escape, scout's honor.
I'm going to hold you to that.
>Vertex coloring
So much soul
that's the worst PS1 spyro though?
It really is. I had only ever played the original so I decided to play through the whole original trilogy and so far Year of the Dragon has been the worst.
2>1>3 in my opinion.
Why does ape escape 3 have so much soul?
cause the PS playerbase has shit taste. they only play glorified tech demos that anyone can beat. They have to be "realistic" and fit a teenager's idea of mature. The other camp of PS users mostly play multiplayer games and nothing else - it doesn't matter if the games they're playing suck as long as they can voicechat with their friends. I used to be one of them.
When your customer base is this limited in what they play, there's no reason to invest in games like Ape Escape, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper or even Ratchet and Clank really. Note how Little Big Planet had a lot of focus on community - it would've been irrelevant without those features.
Because Sony is dead.
Frick Sony that's why.
what do you mean bro Ape Escape Move is totally exactly the same as AE 3, we've had 14 games
Do what I did, buy all ape escape games including japanese ones. Frick modern gaming.
ape escape 3 costs $90 used
>he only checks ebay
>remakes OF remasters
fricking hell that doesn't exist r-right?
sweet summer child.
What game is a remake of a remaster?
Last of Us Ps5. Apparently Horizon Zero Dawn is also getting one despite the original having a PS5 upgrade patch.
>I heard the movement is bad
People are just bad or can't play anything older than 5 years. I have friend who hates the movement and lack of camera control. When in reality he simply can't play any old 3D games. He doesn't like Mario 64 either.
Post "where did it go so wrong"
>lack of camera control
wut
He doesn't like or accept going first person or orienting the camera using L2. Granted they easily get inconvenienced by stuff like that. It's annoying they took their inability to adapt and blamed it on the game.
But you can push the dpad lmao
Sounds like your friend is doing that thing where instead of just saying "I'm not interested in that game" he makes up an excuse
Ape Escape 1 has a terrible camera, it's really, really apparent when you fight the huge armor and he spends most of the time outside the screen while you run around. Taking down the ufo apes with the slingshot is a whole other level of terrible as well, the game didn't age as nearly as good as the other two games or Mario, "it's old therefore any criticism is just newplebbit banter" is just as terrible as newplebbit banter itself.
On the Loose really showed the difference between Sony and Nintendo. Not for being bad but Sony's total lack of quality control. Jesus frick they forgot to redub an entire cutscene yet still didn't give you an option to switch voices.
Also note I haven't played the europe version (different dub) to see if it has the same problem SCEE are generally less incompetent than SCEA
>mfw I see an Ape Escape thread
right stick is for camera only now
play wonderful 101
make me
play pikmin
what if monkey
but also grill
2's pink monkey fight geniunely scared me as a kid
The nice phase concert made me cry as a kid
I still don't know what the hell my problem was
Why didn't they finish the collection of Ape Escape with the 3rd game? That's the one I was waiting for the most after the first because it's the most memories I've had with a game.
I imagine at least part of it is the MGS minigame, but surely they could just cut that and release it anyway? Not sure why they didn't just do that
They COULD; but Sony doesn't give a frick.
MGS3 has the AE collaboration shit removed from the MGS HD collection on PS3.
This soundtrack is pretty damn good.
>dat feel when you get to meet Soichi Terada every year
He's a pretty cool guy that still makes cool, interesting music.
Where do you meet him?
Annual event in Kyoto, there's a small bar that I regularly go to that celebrates its anniversary and he always makes an appearance and plays some music as Omodaka.
Because Sony is a California company now and fun is not on their agenda to provide amusement and adventure.
Frankly I don't know what kind of person or why anyone would buy a sony console in this day and age.
>Dragon's Dogma 2 was given to me
>Ivalice kino is well and alive with FF
>Rollback has come/is coming to all my favorite FG games
>Sonic got a game that wasn't garbage
>Even Armored Core is back
All I need now is Ape Escape 4 + a collection and this industry can die. Team Asobi, you know what must be done.
>Sonic got a game that wasn't garbage
This never happened though.
they got sonic mania
>Why is this series dead?
sony are gaylords
modern vidya industry is run by gaylords catering to normie gaylords
modern vidya industry is omega israelite and if anything doesn't sell 8 billion copies it's not worth it for their greedy
ape escape is great, similarly super monkey ball is great. just cute fun games made with passion, you wont really see the likes of them ever again until the industry crashes and its probably not going to do so
Coz they made a bunch of sequels and nobody bought them.
They also never localized any of them. And then expected people to clap and cheer when they threw them in All star battle.
Frick sony
On the PSP, the thing no game sold well on.
Can you all post some AE3 songs you consider good? I remember trying to listen to the OST a while back, and I wasn’t impressed, which surprised me since I remembered the music always being good. But that meant I didn’t go through the whole thing.
I will post 2.
I could not resist and posted more than 2.
thanks my man
for me it's mount amazing 1
>mount (ing sayaka is) amazing
What the FRICK did they mean by this?
Probably the best non-transformation song in the game, I’d forgotten about it.
This song is way better than what Yellow Monkey deserves. It's incredible.
Monkey Yellow grew on me throughout the years.
there's a really racist joke here
>Black person ESCAPE
>Black person ESCAPE 2
>Black person ESCAPE 3
>Black person ESCAPE ON THE LOOSE
alternatively
>RAPE ESCAPE
>RAPE ESCAPE 2
>RAPE ESCAPE 3
>RAPE ESCAPE ON THE LOOSE
Anon, you must take off the Peak Point helmet. It is still incomplete and may be very dangerous to use.
>an ape escaped to play ape escape
whoa, that's meta
deck anon is that you
did you catch that ape irl too?
Tell the Kacho they need to challenge Ape Escape 2 already. It's been 6 years!
https://s1.fujitv.co.jp/safe/otn/gamecenter/enq/form.html
>spray painted himself and put on blackface
fuick you're really immersing yourself into this. kudos to you man
should i play ape escape 1 or 2?
1, 2 is kind of weak.
While I think he might as well start with 1, never really understood the opinion that 2 wasn’t as good as 1 or 3.
2 is fine, but not as good. 1 and 3 have levels that open into central areas with directions and isolated areas to go to alongside some linear levels. Ape Escape 2 only has the linear levels, which aren't terrible, but they're lacking. Most of them have you pretty much go in a straight line through the level. So to replay one to 100% means you have to go all the through. Again it's not bad, but it lacks the layout variety that 1 and 3 have. Also 2 had a different composer and introduced Yellow Monkey into the series.
Also Jimmy is kinda of lame since he's just Ash but stupid. He doesn't show much personality if his baby monkey isn't involved. Spike, Kei, and Yumi have a lot of spunk and banter with the villains.
The linear level design thing is probably more true than I remember. It’s been quite a while since I’ve played 2 or 3, so I’m probably mixing up some of the levels. I honestly don’t remember much of Spike’s spunk, but I agree that if Jimmy didn’t have Ash’s voice, I’d probably be less keen on him.
whoops
I remember a few years back there felt like a small hope for Ape Escape to return, and now…
It was hope that got snuffed out by California taking over Playstation.
Yeah this was gay and I'll never forgive those california homosexuals for this until the day I die. These tweets hurt, the devs deserve better
Spike doesn't really get as many lines since 1 doesn't have the Freaky Monkey 5 to bounce off of. But he's pretty gungho about the whole ordeal.
The part where you stomp on the ape hit too close to home.
Who was that green haired chick in 1?
Your designated robot gf
wasnt she an AI?
Yes. But its close enough
she cute
>Didn't have the money at the time to get this shirt from fangamer
>All their AE merch is gone now.
I will never not be disappointed.
Oh that looks nice. I agree it’s a shame it’s gone. I ordered this from Yetee from GDQ, but that shirt looks like it’d be nice, if not nicer.
Nice, I also ordered that. I almost didn't, but then remembered how dead AE was. I didn't even notice Snake until I decided to order it and got surprised.
It was listed as a part MGS shirt, and didn’t realize until you said that just now. Thought it was just cause of the association. Not that I mind, since I recently went through some of the MGS games.
I'm going to get this as a shirt
I sincerely love her sassy personality
>Ape escape thread didn't immediately devolve into yumi/sayaka dickyposting
I feel like I just watched a Christmas miracle
Also frick modern Sony and frick California
>Did MGS4 ending before MGS4 was even out
soul
Ape Escape one rules and I 100% it every few years or so. Never played any of the others. Thanks for reading my blog.
This is what being an Ape Escape fan feels like.
Ape Escape has a lot of the same soul and use of color that makes me love Megaman Legends.
Ugly ass graphics, do boomers really?
Will I miss out on anything important if I skip straight to 3? I'm sure you can guess why I want to.
I’m the type that enjoys evolution in gameplay/graphics. But you’d probably be fine. There’s brief cameos of some characters you should know, but you’ll mostly be fine, I think. Anyone important enough gets reintroduced.
I feel like you just gotta let yourself get used to the controls. They’re weird for sure, but eventually you get acclimated to them.
>Anyone important enough gets reintroduced.
Good to know. Gonna get to playing it after I finish Chibi Robo.
Here's me not derailing this thread as thanks.
You don't have to. But part of what makes 3 great is the feeling of gameplay refinement and improvisation on all the neat ideas from the first 2 games. Ape Escape 3 is one of my favorite examples of what a sequel/trilogy title should be. Also 100% the first game feels really triumphant. But you don't have to play them.
Tried Ape Escape 1 but couldn't into the controls. Should I try again? It was mainly using the right stick for the weapons that fricked me
yes? its not remotely complicated unless you have the motor skills of a domestic pig.
Are you emulating? I had to change some deadzones to get it feeling right. I don't like how it feels on a PS5 controller and the ps5 port. Aside form that it's something to just get used to. Think of of the way you would play a twinstick shooter.
Yeah I'm emulating, can't be assed tracking down a PAL disc and setting up my PS2 again
hope you're with duckstation or mednafen
would go with a swap trick, soft mod +psxlauncher or trouble of buying the game for the PS2 myself though, real PS1/PS2 audio is still better than emulated.
Beetle HW because I live in the 21st century
Its something you'll have to adjust to overtime, the selling point for the series was using the dual sticks in a innovative way
Only part in AP1 that threw me off was how the boat controls worked but even that can be learned
If it's really that big of a deal you could just emulate the psp version. You just press buttons to use items in that like a normal game since the psp only had the one stick.
>try emulating ape escape
>can't move, can only look up and down
i want to kill myself
i'm sure with perseverance and google you can fix this issue anon
it has to do with the controller and it wont let me edit the gamepad settings because it's not required whatever that means. FRICK THIS EMULATION SHIT MAN
What emulator?
epsxe
what part of this is wrong do you think? im using a yellow pikachu controller for the switch
it is epsxe!! it didnt have this back when i played silent hill or glover
I don't even know what emulator that is but on beetle i had to set the device type to dual shock through the quick menu because it was reading it as a standard PS controller.
okay yeah i just had to switch it from Digital to Dual Analog or whatever. thanks anons
Best advice I can offer you is checking your inputs again and or remapping. I admit I haven't really used Epsxe in forever.
You may also have to actually change the type of controller in the menu
You might need to mess with the two top right controller options.
you dont have it set as the proper controller type
>it has to do with the controller and it wont let me edit the gamepad settings
what are you on about, any emulator generally has its own menu for controller inputs and lets you edit it at any time.
shit like this is why i will stick with epsxe forever because i'm comfortable with how to mess with it after years
Played for the first time a few months ago. The level with the castle is brilliant and humiliates even modern AAA games.
In general the game is very well done and the gameplay is very fluid, it's definitely an atypical game but after the first few minutes you can't stop playing
>Enter level
>Music tells that you it's GO TIME
>The level with the castle is brilliant
It's impressive how Ape Escape 1 and Mario 64 were the peak of platforming that gen and the industry failed to copy their level design.
i'm old enough to remember being impressed the first time i played ape escape, i thought the two sticks thing was a cool gimmick. having to spin the sticks in opposite directions to paddle the boat was cool as hell to 8 year old me
I didnt know yuroBlack folk were deprived of this as kids, but the version of Ape Escape 2 that I played/own has Ash and Misty as the main characters
It's a fair trade for PAL Specter in AE1.
For me it's the british version of AE 3
>oi specter you cheeky c**t come down 'ere and we'll have a go innit
>gotchaman fairy
>not gotchagirl
Why is Horizon such a weird sticking point here? I played it, it was a fun little game with robot dinosaurs.
But the way Ganker goes on about you'd think it killed their families
Edit: Thanks for the gold, kind stranger!
I don't get it
>it was a fun little game with robot dinosaurs.
because sony are pushing it with extreme marketing and desperation. its not a 'fun little robot dinosaur game' when they're trying to have it marketed as the greatest game ever, constantly paying for it to be nominated for awards, remaking a game only a couple of years old, pushing out sequels and dlc in an age where people do not take risk on ips and do not force them unless they make shitloads of money. horizon did not make shitloads of money, yet they are forcing it. struggling against all reception because people just don't give a shit.
that's why anon, it's real simple
>marketing twitter bullshit
Oh rad, I care about game though not muh marketing behind the scenes
well, it definitely killed my games
It's the epitome of soulless open world uninspired trash. It wouldn't be so bad if Ubisoft didn't already release games like this more than once a year.
For me personally HZD was when I realized Sony was dead and going to shit. So far I have been proven right
>Sony mishandled its IPs so poorly that Xbox is about to become the home of Crash and Spyro
It's astonishing that they bang on about appealing to a broad audience with their accessibility settings and diversity sliders but don't seem interested in bright, colourful games that children and families would enjoy.
Sony only wants the "mature" ™ audience
I almost want them to do this, just to see the trashfire.
>we live in a timeline where we've gotten two remakes and a TV series adaptation of TLOU1, a fricking movie game instead of a new Ape Escape sequel, reboot, or even a modern anime series to generate interest in the series again
Frick this gay earth, frick Sony, I hope the Law of Diminishing Returns hits them hard and people stop buying their movie game bullshit.
Gravity Rush and Parappa didn't deserve this shit treatment either.
Death to AAA games.
I remember trying to play ape escape on ps1 but I didn't have the dualshock and was a kid. Never got into it until I played the third one.
Sayaka thread?
Why not?
No. Post only monkeys you pedos.
Why not both?
would an ape escapeXsamba di amigo crossover work
I still can't believe this photo was the big 20th anniversary surprise.
PAL version of Ape Escape 1 best
crazy, I just downloaded ape escape 2 this week and I haven't played the series since I was a kid when it came out
When are they gonna fix the PS5 version of Ape Escape 2?
That would require Sony to care about their PS2 emulation, and Jim Ryan is still president of SIE, so that isn't happening anytime soon
>why is this series dead
modern sony hates fun
skip 2 and play 3
Is on the loose as bad as people say? Or a good remake of 1? I adored 2 and 3
>Why is this series dead?
Because snoy killed off all their good IPs, look at the current state of wipeout for example.
Sony has no fricking clue how to manage their IPs.
The PAL version of Jimmy’s voice is so sad.
I just finished the trilogy the other day
3 > 2 > 1
1 and 2 are pretty close though, 2 feels better to play but I hate how all the new gadgets were basically single purpose glorified keys
>2 feels better to play
How many fricking bong rips did you do while playing that game? It feels way worse to play than AE1 and the OST sucks dick. The levels are also unnecessarily long, huge, and empty.
🙁
which ape are you today, Ganker?
Winky is literally me
Jakkee feels about right today.
I'm Bazzle
Also can we keep posting these gifs n webms n shit theyre so comfy
ok
Iz, Bazzle and Zanabi all at once
played Ape Escape last year, got all the way to Level 7-2 Wabi Sabi Wall, seems like there were only 5 stages left so not far to go
stopped playing because this part in particular really fricked me off, and the camera issues and general jank just started to wear me down. will give it another try though, definitely a cool game
Why is the music in this series so fricking good? Every track is a fricking banger. I have several tracks stuck in my head at the same time right now
I'm pretty sure ape escape is the reason why I love drum and bass
>there have been precisely zero Ape Escape clones, indie or otherwise
hopefully The Big Catch does well, closest I can think of
Looks cool
>le quirky it runs at a maximum of 120p for sovl
Pass. Remaking Ape Escape as it was is dumb. Any clones should be an evolution.
you can toggle it
I remember running along walls and grinding rails in Ape Escape too.
3 is my favorite of the series. I just really love the transformation gimmick.
>Team Asobi will never make Ape Escape 4
>if they did it would be VRshit
kill me. Astro's Playroom was just a tech demo for the new controller haptic stuff but it was genuinely great. would love to see them do the same thing for AE and just go crazy with it
How bout you contribute to the thread with actual discussion.
>Why is this series dead?
Because it's literally a Nintendo game on the wrong platform.
>Because it's literally a Nintendo game
how so
Sony has always made "edgy" movie games aimed at teen audiences. They literally marketed the original PlayStation as such.
Ape Escape is aimed at a younger audience and follows Nintendo's style of bright colors and gameplay over story.
Correct. It's also why F-Zero and Metroid don't work on Nintendo because it's more appropriate for PC-PS
>Sony has always made "edgy" movie games aimed at teen audiences
that's what ape escape is though, it's a 3D platformer for teens instead of little kids.
>it's a 3D platformer for teens
No, that title belongs to KNACK
Famously edgy movie games like Gran Turismo, Tomba, Ridge Racer, Tekken and Crash Bandicoot. So many shitty garbo movie games unlike based Nintendo!!
it's a fun, lighthearted platformer with an inventive gimmick
Alright boys: Favorite Transformation?
I like cyber ace
>have an idea for an Ape Escape type game
>combines the vacuum stick pulling mechanic of Luigi's Mansion with the apes from AE
>you pull the soul out of creatures, and they drag you through the environment as they try to resist it
the thought was that one could drag you through an environment full of clutter that you have to weave and jump through, another might climb up a wall, one might drag you underwater, etc
just another day in /ideaguy/ fantasizing
sounds fun because I like luigis mansion but stealing monkeys souls sounds a bit much to me
How about you just vacuum the monkeys and they go into a backpack and you can see them floating around in there or something? Sucking up their souls is a bit morbid
This series might be dead, but at least we got three great games. Ape escape 1-3 were my absolute favorite games growing up.
I remember asking a local store to order the third game, and coming in every week for months to see if they had it yet. I played the shit out of it when it finally arrived. I love that game so much.
>actually really fun
>actually feels really great
How many more time are you going to use actually? Dumbass moron.
are you lonely or somethin
>here's your Ape Escape 4, bro!
>a fricking not-NFT
Sony are monsters
The worst part about the ones in Playstation Stars is that they cost a ridiculous sum of coins. Unless you actually own the Sony credit card I don't know how you'd gain the points to ever buy them. I've been enrolled for like four(?) months now and have 0 coins despite buying stuff from PSN, this is the first month I will actually gain 50 points since they started the program.
The problem is that you need to specifically buy brand new release games digitally for $60/70 like an insane person or play some of their specific games and they give you a whopping 50 coins when the Ape Escape ones take 500. They also took them down so they're not even in the "Rewards" section anymore. At least with this month's rewards it's some games I actually own.
>Missed out on a free Toro because I don't care to play fighting games, only watch them.
I'll never forgive them.

It's fun to watch Sony fans only now realize that Sony has always been trend chasers.
Even in the PS2 era you could see a shift in the games tone compared to the PS1.
Sony pretty much finished killing 2D games in PS2 era and they started to focus in games with a western appeal.
It's almost like they how much the PS2 was selling and completely misunderstood the success.
Should I replay 1 as the original or psp?
original
Original, the PSP version has some different controls and if I remember right changed some things.
Why did nobody ever heard of Ape Quest?
I bought it when it first came out on PSP, it was a lot of fun. I still feel like the Ape Academy games are better overall.
does anyone here actually use the monkey radar, felt like a waste of a equip slot to me
All the time since it gives you a general idea of where to go in the first game. In the second and third games I didn't feel it was needed as much.
It's for total beginners, also it's just another way to flex that analog controller. I think it's a neat little tool that allows the game to keep flowing smoothly for vets without abandoning complete beginners.
All the time, I like the little blurbs, and it lets you better appreciate the monkeys doing special animations
Yes. I want ALL the banana flavor text.
So I've heard about some regional differences, what are the main difference between the first game's Pal and NTSC versions?
>2 gets a port
>1 gets a remaster
>3 gets forgotten since sony hates it
Why is this allowed?
yeah they never remastered patapon 3 either for some reason
>3 gets forgotten since sony hates it
You know why.
were the 90s peak of the ape era/timeline?
