Playing through Fallout Sonora currently and I'm super impressed with it. The villa and garage city opening is a bit slow but Phoenix has a lot of great quests and conflicts between the factions. A lot of details with how interactable things are with science/repair too.
My only issue so far is the quest with Kogan and the factory seems a bit on rails with some obvious solutions not possible, but otherwise it's probably the best total conversion yet.
Its best Fallout game imo next to Fallout1 and Nevada
Fun fact: Black Designer said he'll stop making Fallout TC mods after Sonora and focus on creating a new IP of his own for his next project. When Putler heard about this he promptly invaded Ukraine to cut off Russia from the rest of the world and force Black to keep making these awesome Fallout mods for the rest of his life since now he doesn't have access to Steam or any other platform to promote his games - this was the actual real reason for the war.
TYBP. I'm assuming ATOM RPG started off as a F2 TC and I love that game so I'd be fine with an original games influenced by fallout
It's good enough, there's a few awkward lines here and there and some inconsistent namings but it's totally playable. The worst thing I've encountered is a quest involving counterfeit caps shows up in the quest log as "stop fake tire production" for some reason. I'm just happy I haven't seen any broken or cyrillic characters
>TYBP
?
Is the english translation good enough or are you a rusky?
I liked nevada, but somehow felt like the game was lacking something in the main story. And it felt too short. Like if they needed to release a "definitive edition" to make the game actually feel complete
>I liked nevada, but somehow felt like the game was lacking something in the main story
That was the main complaint always brought up as the weak side of this TCM. The story itself is not even half-bad (in my humble opinion it's overall a lot better than F2's main quest), it's just presented and paced badly/awkwardly.
>And it felt too short
You what homie. The game is fukhueg and bigger in it's side content even than Fallout 2 - just take New Reno for example. Unless you're only referring to the main plot here.
>Like if they needed to release a "definitive edition" to make the game actually feel complete
Believe it or not that's what Black wanted to do all along since he was unsatisfied with how the main plot of the mod turned out/connected to the rest of the game. He even created a draft for Nevada 2.0 and wanted to cut much of the stuff from the game (LV, SLC etc.) + rework the main quest entirely, but it proved to be too big of a task, almost as if he was creating the game all over again from scratch. So instead, he focused on Sonora. I doubt he'll revisit Nevada ever again (for better or worse).
>The game is fukhueg and bigger in it's side content even than Fallout 2
No way is longer than fallout 2. I ended up being lvl 23 in nevada which is, of course, an ok level to finish original FO2. But in nevada quests gave a HUGE amount of exp compared to FO2. Specially if you did them in "the right way/order". Fallout 2 lasted me like 50hs and nevada maybe 30hs-35hs at most.
Nevada felt longer than 2 for me because of how many quests see you going to other locations. I'm pretty sure I circled the map 3 different times
I was just remembering a very kino moment in Nevada where in a random encounter you find some kind of weird "paradise"/oasis in the middle of the desert full of green, trees and flowers and this sounds in the background
So you know there's something really uncanny and not good about the place despite how comfy it looks. Idk why, but it was very memorable to me when I found it. I suppose I'm into this kind of soft-horror inexplicable stuff despite clearly being just an easter egg
I never liked Nevada, felt VERY moddy. Sonora on the other hand is a real step up.
It is moddy, but in a very good way. I think no other TCM can come close as far as the side-quests go and the gameplay mechanics they've added on top (crafting, infection) fit like a glove. Also, I don't think any other classic Fallout game, including Sonora and originals used the existing skills and stats better - everything has a use somewhere in the world and it's not a one-off. I know it's unpolished but I like it the most of the bunch. It's more than worth it if nothing else then for it's version of New Reno.
casually tanked that. the first bug I've encountered so far. there was also a child in the water purifying settlement that crashed my game with a bad text popup or something
Stuck in new reno, everyone I talk to that seems like a quest giver tells me to get more rep. I've done a few random tasks in town too do I just need to keep trying to find side quests?
Try doing boxing, talk to the lad that only drinks these days
Funny thing is, you just need to fill one of their obligations.
What you need to start exact quest varies from quest to quest, but it's fairly common to include at least one of the following:
>High enough level
Get back while you gain experience
>Affiliation
Rather found in quest chains
>Reputation
Gained through various quests
Also try this if you're uncertain.

As for general advice - try to finish all mormon quests, become slum hero (including saving folks from Hawthorne MB) this should grant you enough level/reputation/affiliation to unlock gangster quests in Reno
>tired of using a crappy 10mm pistol
>Wander around until I get a random encounter with a face off
>Save scum until I get 2 hunting rifles and an AR
Truly playing as intended!
its unironically better than fallout 2. shame the translation is shit
>choose not to take spanish speaking perk
>encounter 1 npc who actually speaks spanish in my playthrough
feels like a missed opportunity
There are many more especially the further to the south you go, but they didn't lean too heavily into it, for better or worse.
I didn't go south of the brotherhood destroyer, but i'll check it out before I do the Dayglow stuff. I really like the highwayman being replaced with a motorcycle. The deathclaw skull ornament is a nice touch
>can only take one companion on the bike
sadge. Since it doesn’t affect party size in sonora, is there any reason to have CHA or is it a dump stat like in F1?
where can i get the fuel to the motorcycle? I assumed these batteries fuel it to 100%, and now im fricked
There are 3 i think
How the frick did you get an English version?
I don't recall any high charisma checks.
Big ass battery (yellow one)
Good thing is, that bike will not dissapear neither on map, nor in the desert, like highwayman did - it will create a random encounter where it lies in the desert, and you can get back to it later.
>The third quest in the game involves taking on an entire slaver base.
Being this moronic
Standard build of high Agility and Intelligence should get you far enough.
Perception now gives +8% to hit, instead of +4%, so it's kind of buffed now.
Big Guns skill now covers shoulder arms, so a shotgun uses big guns skill. At the same time there are less really big guns - strongest weapons are LMG's Rocket Launchers and a Minigun.
Science and Repair are commonly used and can progress like half of quests.
Speech is GOD TIER as always
Doctor is okay-ish since crippled limbs happen twice as much, and enemies are keen on targeted attacks (for example wolfs almost always bite legs) but there are - no quests involving doctor whatsoever.
Other than that - go with F2 build whatever and you're golden.
I'm playing Fallout Sonora too and it's funny because to me it's so boring
Every quest at the beginning is like "okay go here and fetch this for me" and the next quest is "okay we're going into the Glow, get yourself 3 power armors, 500 radaways, 5800 laser rifles at minimum, bye"
Not to mention the moronic amount of random encounters when you travel, the frick is that about?
What. I played it too and never had issue with gathering stuff. Maybe thats skill issue
My point isn't gathering my point is that shit escalates instantly from early game to end game.
The third quest in the game involves taking on an entire slaver base.
Ever heard of skill "Outdoorsman"? If RE piss you of some much maybe invest in that
Thinking about starting this. Any nonviable build traps to be aware of, or is it similar enough to FO/2 I should be okay?
Repair is useful
Not necessarily, since you can use junk on objects to lower the difficulty of a repair check (I think it's -10% each time you use it).
they weight a shitload through, and companions are found relatively late imo
i tagged repair and did not regret it (along with unarmed and speech, which made a pretty solid bulid)
I usually go repair as that is my real life job.
Godspeed anon. I prefer Nevada (and the release that had a makeshift pistol that upgrades to the best gun in the game) but Sonora is still a great time, DLC included. By the way, it had a patch a couple of months ago.
>I prefer Nevada (and the release that had a makeshift pistol that upgrades to the best gun in the game
Which one is that exactly? Crazy edition? And what's the weapon in question?
I got bored with Sonora when I've reached Puerto
Way too much menial task busywork shit
Yeah, you should probably shouldn't listen to slavs.
What do you mean?
I did like Nevada though, but I never quite finished it.
best one easily
Sonora=nevada>f1>f2
