I can pay for the games, but I still emulate. I am not a brain washed first worlder who would getv sued gorillions for downloading a game. Cry me a river, homosexual.
There is one thing I don't like about Duckstation, when playing in 1x resolution blown up to full screen it has this filtering effect that cannot be removed, and the filters are disabled, so it's not as crisp as epsxe when playing it like that.
If someone knows the way to change it so it looks like clean raw pixels, pic related, I would like to know.
it's called bilinear filtering. it smoothes out pixels and other effects that weren't as noticeable back then
it shouldn't be enabled by default, check these settings
That worked, thanks. I assumed that it would be under the enhancements selection but it was linear upscaling that added bilinear separate from the other bilinear filter option.
That worked, thanks. I assumed that it would be under the enhancements selection but it was linear upscaling that added bilinear separate from the other bilinear filter option.
The filter in the upper shot isn't even noticeable because it's meant to simulate integer scaling. The one without it is ridden with non-integer scaling artifacts and it looks ugly as sin, how can you stand it?
You won't see me criticize shaders because emulating crts is cool and all but that's not how it's supposed to look. The dithering patterns are supposed to blend together.
I never understood ctr filter, I feel like the only thing they make is everything look dark as shit. I've played a lot on ctr my PS2 and it didn't look like this
Because most crt filters are awful and don't portray how the games are supposed to look. Those are just awful.
I've honestly given up on emulation since I bought a retrotink 5x. I'm just playing on original hardware now.
This is how a game looks unfiltered, integer scaling at 1080p (forgive me for the shit photo quality with saturated colors, but the fastest way was to take pictures with my phone)
Idk, apparently Duckstation is better in every way but most games run slower there compared to when i run them on epsxe. Maybe i didn't tinker enough with the setting but whatever. ePSXe works and i really don't see the difference.
I guess it has pretties UI, oh and i can take non fricked up screen shots there but still.
There aren't actually morons who willfully stick to shitty emulators out of spite when better standalone ones are available, are there? That's just bait, right?
Yeah well, I dunno about better, but it will definitely do it. With something like MedGUI it's pretty good. Does a bunch of other shit, too like Apple II. It's definitely the only way to fly with Saturn, but I'm still Ducking it for the PS1. Solid emulator either way.
How have zoomers gaslit everyone into thinking dithering on the PS1 is real? It's literally not. When I play my PS1 games on my PS1 on the crt I've had for 40 years there's literally no dithering but if I play my PS1 games on zoomer emulators there's ugly dithering to gaslight morons into thinking PS1 games had dithering
PS1 heavily utilized dithering to create added perceived color depth when viewed on a CRT with composite cables (the cables you're using). If you use higher quality cables, like component, the dithering patterns will become visible. The same thing happened on the Genesis and even the N64 to a lesser extent.
CRTs themselves absolutely do matter you idiot. Devs took into account the way CRT displays seamlessly blended neighboring pixels when making pixel art, for example

and this is the one thing shaders cannot replicate, the way each individual pixel on a crt behaves

>Devs took into account the way CRT displays seamlessly blended neighboring pixels
NTSC signal does that, Display itself does almost nothing in that regard.
PS1 games themselves didn't have dithering. Dithering was created by the console to bypass the color bit limit. The games had instructions written in their code to signal the console to create dithering patterns so that games wouldn't have color banding. The most common analog signal used with the PS1 was composite since that's the cable that came with the console, and because it was a blurry signal, combined with CRT technology, it would blend all the dither patterns. It's why some emulators have a smoothing filter like pic related, so that you won't notice it as easily.
Because it actually was there, Silent Hill is one of the most clear examples and you could easily see it even on a crt. Saturn itself also had major dithering that was often visible.
Any 3d game that let you get close to the model in 3d had clear dithering you could see.
At the right distances though you easily hide it.
>when I play the original hardware on a fuzzier display known to blend the image, I can't see the finer details >but when I play emulated on a sharper display, these finer details appear, therefore they aren't real
Are there some guides to mod it online? I don't know shit about soldering, but I can probably pay some random to risk his eyeballs to do it for me instead.
Of course there are guides online. It depends on what you want to do, but there are many youtube guides, and they often link the text version, so you can follow along.

Oh awesome, I didn't know because retroarch's core is "beetle" or something. This helps a lot, thanks anons.
"Beetle" is just mednafen under a different name, literally.

BeetlePSX is the name of the PS1 component of Mednafen afaik.

There is no standart for those things that devs could design games for. Only the NTSC signal is relevant
CRTs themselves absolutely do matter you idiot. Devs took into account the way CRT displays seamlessly blended neighboring pixels when making pixel art, for example
