99% of the reason this dude is so popular is because of his music selection, that one track in particular

I like these videos as background noise, but kind of prefer Bismuth or Swellman to Summoning Salt though. The parts of these videos I enjoy are explaining how the time saves are made/discovered rather than which person happened to put them together in a run at any given time. Tends to go hand in hand and both happen anyways, but Summoning Salt feels like he spends more time on the 'then this person shaved 2 seconds off by doing nothing notably different just slightly better' stuff.

      >5 people
I have three WRs. Only one of them has any other people that ever contested, and I imagine they only tried like 5 times each. I kinda like improving my skills at a game I really like and it extends the enjoyment I get out of them, but I definitely can't really identify with the super fricking competitive games. Like watching some dude run Super Metroid day after day for an actual decade or more is hard to really get.

I'm glad he made the videos, but I think the well has dried up. He did all the interesting topics first and now he just scrounges up whatever he can because of money.
At least he summarizes what these moronic losers did over the course of 20 years and condenses it into a video i can watch in parts over a few days.

Eh, I feel like his videos kind of fell off, or maybe the formula just got old for me. Some of them were pretty interesting (like the blindfolded Punch-Out runs), but it's gotten tiresome watching videos about different subcategories of the same game, or fricking Mario Kart for the 9 millionth time.

      This.

I disagree, I'd listen to him talk about any game's speedruns record history and there's so many. There are no limits to the amount of autism speedrunners have. Just because he hit the big ones doesn't mean the well's dried up.

Is that why his most recent video was about somebody specific breaking a specific person's record? I haven't watched it because I already saw his MK64 and I'm not intersted in an update on it

The hobbit speedrun history video was kino, mainly because of the twist at the end

Just because you and other normalgays don’t care about speedrunning and just wanted to see “omg mario bros speed run woahhhh!” doesn’t mean the new videos aren’t interesting.
His Mario Kart video uploaded a week ago has almost 2 million views already.

Speedrunning is a waste of time. If you have the autism to be dedicated to something for millions of hours, why aren't you doing something important, and not just replaying children's games?

First mover advantage doesn't last forever. Eventually even reddit will notice that there are a dozen people making better summoningsalt videos than summoningsalt himself.

I'm interested in the mechanics behind speedrunning but I really do not care that much about the people who actually do speedrunning. Summoning Salt focuses more on gassing up the speedrunners themselves than the actual speedruns so I find his videos pretty boring compared to people like Bismuth and tomatoanus.

I'm sure speedrunners enjoy what they're doing but I find it difficult to imagine a less interesting person than someone who spends all their time playing the exact same game the exact same way over and over again for years.
