I agree that Pokemon is overly sanitized, but that's way too gory/edgy to be Pokemon. At best, I think the world of Pokemon shouldn't be a utopia. There should be (more) reminders that showcase that bad shit can and does happen, that there are struggles, like with Cubone in Lavender Town. Not constant doom and gloom, but still.
i think gen 7 overtly showing child abuse and gen 9 touching on the death of a parent are pretty solid examples of this, they do try and do real hard subjects sometimes.
