They're pretty fun all on their own even if Platinum is better. I also think RS and GS are pretty good though, so do with this info as you will.

Base versions tend to be underrated because most fans won’t defend them against criticism that doesn’t include the third version. DP are a primary example of this because they have a lot of haters for some reason and Platinum changed enough stuff for people to be able to shill "DP are awful, Platinum is amazing" narratives (even though this doesn’t make sense and Emerald honestly added more to RS than Platinum to DP).
The reality is that DP are the second best base games after BW. Nobody was calling them bad when they came out, in fact, Pokémon was very popular during that time and the vast majority of people loved DP and gen 4. It’s a few years ago that people started saying that "looking back they were bad" because they’ve been outdone not only by Platinum but also HGSS and gen 5. But that doesn’t make them bad at all. They just came out in an era that was so far above every other. And none of the other DS games would have been able to exist in their current state if DP didn’t provide a solid base for them. Even gen 5 was only as successful as it was because they had experience on the DS. And he’ll, like 80% of gen 5’s sprites come from gen 4.
>The reality is that DP are the second best base games after BW.
LMAO
Where's the lie?
>Nobody was calling them bad when they came out, in fact, Pokémon was very popular during that time and the vast majority of people loved DP and gen 4.
I enjoyed DP but this is wrong, Pokemon was unpopular at that time and the gen 4 designs were disliked by most people. Nobody liked Dialga, Palkia and the starters back then, they were seen as overdesigned Digimon. Its zoomers that popularized them.
4 people aren't representative of anything. The pokemon hype was crazy back then, especially with online becoming a thing, kind of like a second pokemania.
Look at how well DP sold, everyone had it. And even today it's got the second most iconic dex behind Kanto. Pokemon was HUGE during gen 4.
People really have been saying the same bs since 2006 AT LEAST.
Platinum just made the game playable which was great compared to the slow shit we got at first
DP is easier to replay than any game with no running shoes or >Too bad! The BAG is full...
Uhh platinum has running shoes. Press the B button.
I never said it was easier to replay than Platinum.
Just that the "slow" accusations aren't really justified.
>Nobody was calling them bad when they came out
Subjective. Not true in my experience as a kid at the time. The only thing we all loved about DP was that it benefitted (massively) from the connectivity and backwards compatibility features of the DS.
Nearly everyone I knew hated the new crossgen evos, for one. It’s not an accident that we didn’t get new ones (barring one eeveelution) until PLA.
>It’s not an accident that we didn’t get new ones (barring one eeveelution) until PLA.
how many times have you posted this stupid shit lol. dp evos are based
>It’s not an accident that we didn’t get new ones (barring one eeveelution) until PLA.
Gen 5 wanted a new dex entirely. Gen 6 updated old lines with mega evolutions. 7 and 8 introduced regionals and new evolutions for those. Acting like DP scared Gamefreak from wanting to return to older lines with new forms makes no sense, if anything the reception to 5's dex made them regret ever stopping with making new forms for older pokemon.
The cross gen evos were fantastic though. Mismagius, Honchkrow, Weavile, Dusknoir, Gliscor, Leafeon/Glaceon, etc etc are all fantastic. Only ones I don’t like are Licklicky and Tangrowth, but even then I can appreciate that they offer a stat boost to mons who really needed it.
I agree that the narrative about them being super weak is overblown, but I'd argue both B&W and R&S are better base versions.
>Emerald honestly added more to RS than Platinum to DP
I agree, I played Pearl for many hours and the only actual issue is that they're very slow so if you are trying to do some heavy training or catching for My Pokemon Ranch you will have a ton of downtime.
Stiiiiiiiiiiiill waiting on that Platinum Ranch update, ambrella.
DP's battles felt really slow after playing gen 3 and I used the standard starter/Staraptor/Luxray team in my first playthrough, but I still had fun. It was more enjoyable than gen 2.
i can’t blame ppl for hating them because of the bad regional dex and shit performance, but i love dp too.
for some reason because of all of the silly time-gated encounters and other gimmicks, i really enjoy filling out the sinnoh dex lol. not to mention the spin-offs you can connect to like pbr and ranch, or doing a cute charm glitch playthrough for shinies. makes it feel unique imo
>for some reason because of all of the silly time-gated encounters and other gimmicks, i really enjoy filling out the sinnoh dex lol
I actually agree, one the reasons I like DP is because filling out the dex as you play feels so natural.
To me the fact that they have so many mons with original obtention methods is a positive, the dex is a bit small but there’s still a lot of options anyway and BW and the kanto games also have a small dex yet don’t get nearly as much hate for it
I also don’t find DP to be that slow. Even after playing other games I only notice slow elements when people point them out (and even then they don’t seem as big a deal as people make them out to be)
I like the RS font.
don't rby and gcs share a font too
>don't rby and gcs share a font too
It appears so. My point was that I like the font in RS which is different than the one used in Emerald.
>platinum
>better
it is tho
Yup
hi discord
>I like Pokemon
WOW what a brave take.
On here? Yea it is.
I actually spent a lot more time in Diamond than in Platinum. I was kinda turned off by the weird alternate sprites, and honestly most of my Pokémon were still in Diamond. Granted today I can easily understand why Platinum is better (just finished a playthrough + postgame), especially in the encounter tables and amount of extra content.
“Health bars going down slowly” is frankly, an overly-weighted complaint. In my opinion.
>I actually spent a lot more time in Diamond than in Platinum
Same, but that's mostly because i wasn't going to spend almost 900 hours on every single one of my games lol
DP was my first RPG and i was amazed by all the possibilities it offered, i liked trying different mons and getting new ones through the GTS and then eventually getting more through cheating
still waiting for their remakes
I hate that BDSP stole our opportunity for a proper remake. There won’t be another Sinnoh game for several generations.
>I hate that PLA stole our opportunity for a proper remake.
ftfy
PLA wasn’t trying to be a proper remake, and it’s still much closer to a true reimagining of Sinnoh than BDSP. If only PLA was released I’d think we still had a chance at a proper remake but BDSP took the slot by being unmistakably intended as a remake.
people would have been much happier if they just released PLA as the Sinnoh remake
definitely, BDSP only satisfies the people who just want to play Sinnoh again which they could do with Pt because almost nobody believes BDSP are the definitive way to play through Sinnoh. Putting that dev team to pitch into PLA and just axing BDSP would've been the way to go.
