>its children's game reputation.
Does that not just come from Nintendo being the publisher, or was Mario not considered kiddyshit by the time the PS2 was out?
the anime at the time was shilling the baby mons hard to sell merch. there's interviews saying they got negative attention from that and designed the gen 3 mons to be more cool and less cute
Day/night cycle reminds me of how there's 3x the encounter tables, but the Pokemon distribution is somehow still shit. Don't get me started on how most of the gen 2 mons are really annoying to find, catch, and train for how useless they are in battle. Frick Natu, frick Yanma, and frick Mantine.
this is why 95% of gen 2 runs only use the starter and red gyarados >um excuse me i spent 60 hours grinding on level 20s so i'm at the same level for the e4
lol. lmao.
I miss just being a kid on an adventure, that "a boy & his dog" feel. No rival being your cutesy best friend, no champion being introduced in the first 10 minutes & holding your hand throughout the game, no other characters constantly stopping you every 5 steps, no being tied to a legendary Pokemon, no save the world story. Just a simple adventure where your just a kid in a big wide world.
Gen III is the best because dive is the greatest addition to the overworld exploration. but then future games just forget about it. Gen IV is when the slow decline starts
The exclusivity of Mew in Gen 1 is literally what made the game successful in the first place.
Red/Green flopped for like three months before word of mouth about a 151st Pokemon spread in Japan.
I love old pokemon. The good 2D games. Seeing what the devs have done to it is sad. Look at Fromsoft for example, going from Dark Souls to Elden Ring. They expanded on every system and made things better.
Pokemon however, goes from great (gameboy,3ds) to shit (scarlet).
>no mention of Palworld in OP >zoomers still seething about Palworld in every other response
Rent free, the week is about to come to a close, have you picked up the next flavour of the week game already?
homie, whether you like it or not, whether it crash and burn tomorrow or not: from now on every Pokémon discussion will have someone mention Palworld. Same as Digimon.
You can get over it *now*, or you can seethe everyday for the foreseeable future.
In public consciousness yes, but for pokegays on Ganker it's over for them until the next big pokemon game. People aren't going to let them live this down too easy. Ganker has it out for pokegays for some reason.
> Ganker has it out for pokegays for some reason
Ganker has it out for Gamefreak apologists, nuance.
Continuously throwing money at one of the laziest, most technically incompetent AAA developer in the world is why modern games are mostly garbage.
Yeah totally sure this is why this board aggressively whines about every single new design in the series and presents bullshit reasons to why they're bad. I remember people trying to argue that Grimmsnarl had bad colors while it uses complementary colors. Actual braindead stupidity paired with delusional knowledge.
It had better map design but worse combat mechanics.
>Map design
Every cave was a fricking maze and some had puzzles in them. The Rock Tunnel let you sequence break if you were smart about it. Badges 3-6 can be obtained out of order. This was a glorious time when item-gated exploration was leveraged really well and dungeon design was at its peak.
>Combat
In general, Pokémon balancing is awkward pre-Gen IV as you'd have outliers like Sneasel getting fricked over by their offensive type and also somehow Ghost is a physical element in these games, but for Gen I it got even more fricked. Offensive Ghost, Bug, Poison and Dragon moves just didn't fricking exist, and just about every Ghost, Grass and Bug type came tacked on with a Poison type, further making Psychic more powerful and Poison even more irrelevant. More of the Rock types came with a Ground type so the defensive type was ass at being defensive.
In summation, HGSS are the best games because they combined the old school map design with the Phys/Spec split, and even had following Pokémon to boot.
HGSS lets me catch a level 50 Magikarp early to shit on the rest of the game with an overleveled Gyarados with HM moves, so that's nice. Who cares about the level curve or Pokemon distribution when you have that?

It's funny, I didn't know about any of this or care back when I played Gen 1, 2, 3, and 4 on release.
I just had fun.
>play red rocket edition >wonderful romhack >even allows you to buy link stones >NPC says "haha it was so outdated, i'm thankful we have these around to evolve pkmn that only could be evolved through trade"
Based. Tajiri created a timeless masterpiece, that's one game I can't stop replaying. Zoomers can't relate.
>the people playing Fortnite for 7 years or LoL for 15 years can't relate
I think you are more like a zoomer than you want to believe.
I like how every generation thinks their nostalgia is more special than the rest. It's the same shit.
music was top tier too. quite literally the perfect game. too bad they couldn't evolve or remake it while keeping its glory in the newer games.
It's too bad gen 2 tried to keep Pokemania going, failed, and introduced all the baby shit to give Pokemon its children's game reputation.
>its children's game reputation.

Pokemon was always a childrens game.
Gen 2 is the scrapped off part that couldn't make it to Gen 1 due to limitations
>gen 2 is the original "third game" of gen 1
HOLY
>gen 2 is the original "third game" of gen 1
That's still Blue Version technically
Pokemon gen 1 is truly one of the games of all time
>glitch fest
>no physical/special split
>no special abilities
>no held items
>glitch fest
Zoomer meme
It was a millenial meme first.
>beep boop I am le generation X
>beep boop I am le generation Y
Literal NPCs.
Than Scarlet and Violet?
I agree
gen 2 towns at night time are the best Pokemon has ever been in terms of soul so much style extracted from such limited hardware
This.
Im a hardcore gen onenner, but boy howdy if gen 2 nights didnt have soul
>boy howdy

>i dont like putting in effort to find interesting mons
That's so sad, alexa play despacito
this is why 95% of gen 2 runs only use the starter and red gyarados

For me, it's the simplicity.
I miss just being a kid on an adventure, that "a boy & his dog" feel. You're an old man and a failure.
Why are you posting this pic in several threads?
Because you are vermin.

OMFG is that ale freakin #lecode bootcamp reference?!?! BAZINGA!!!
IT IS! HELLO!
You are a varmint.
frick off with your CS bootcamp you cnile zoomie
Not even the same anon but ok buddy moron.
You're not very interesting, sorry.
Is this why you were bullied in high school, loser?
That feeling you're describing. This is why Gothic and Dark Souls are the best games ever made.
you don't need to be an adult to wear these
source: I've browsed IG before
Poke-what? Oh, you mean that one franchise that was popular a long time ago, but was replaced with Palworld.
I'm old enough to remember when people said this about Digimon.
Nobody said this about digimon except diehard digigays aka contrarian pokegays and even they knew they were wrong.
pal world
Gen III is the best because dive is the greatest addition to the overworld exploration. but then future games just forget about it. Gen IV is when the slow decline starts
Emerald was the peak of the series
Gen 4 was slow but the decline was very fast right after gen 2.
ngl i prefer gen 1 over 2. stop locking battle-related stuff like evo stones and pokemon encounters behind time-based events you FRICKING Black folk
The exclusivity of Mew in Gen 1 is literally what made the game successful in the first place.
Red/Green flopped for like three months before word of mouth about a 151st Pokemon spread in Japan.
it flopped until the anime started airing. that was the actual catalyst of pokemania starting
Playing Gen 2 on release date as an elementary/middle schooler is objectively the best experience.
This game is a blatant Palworld ripoff. Nintendo and Game Freak need to be sued.
no one dislikes old pokemon. people hate the new, shitty pokemon.
This
Even if Gens 1-5 have their flaws, the correct path would have been to fix and improve on them. Instead Gens 6+ steer it into the toilet.
Legends Arceus is the best game by far.
That's not how you spell Heart Gold/Soul Silver.
This.
Pretty sure 99% of Palworld's playerbase are just old pokéfans who had given up on Gamefreak ever bothering to improve on the old GB games.
I love old pokemon. The good 2D games. Seeing what the devs have done to it is sad. Look at Fromsoft for example, going from Dark Souls to Elden Ring. They expanded on every system and made things better.
Pokemon however, goes from great (gameboy,3ds) to shit (scarlet).
>and made things better
>open world
>better than actual level design
By my calculation, this would make it 95 per cent of this board at the moment.
pokemon is for babies
>no mention of Palworld in OP

just like yo kai watch and temtem right?
Well, those two do get mentioned in *most* Pokémon threads, and they didn't sell 6 millions units in 4 days so...
It'll pass in a week.

It's a small indie studio, chud

Have they made a Pokémon game that plays like Skyrim yet? Sort of 3D and with the ability to explore?
Pokémon Colosseum was great when I was a kid.
It had better map design but worse combat mechanics.

I just had fun.
>the technical parts of pokemon aren't fun
Legitimately low iq take
>big chunk of the cool pokemon are only available through trade
Frick you, I hated that I couldn't get Golem, Alakazam and Machamp when I was younger.
Plenty of rom hacks up to genIV that make solo pokedex completion possible, anon.
>play red rocket edition
>wonderful romhack
>even allows you to buy link stones
>NPC says "haha it was so outdated, i'm thankful we have these around to evolve pkmn that only could be evolved through trade"
>look this up
>it's not about getting fricked by dogs
I'm genuinely disappointed.
homie I was like 10
You didn’t have friends as a kid?
Gen 2 is the best
Gen 3 though is my favourite
has there ever existed a more cucked game than gameboy pokemon? the "world" i just a bunch of boxes you walk through with no exploration.
