That the OG assnime hasn't been good since the early 2000s. And even then not every episode was perfect. Trying to binge pokemon is like trying to eat too many spicy peppers because the more you watch the more you realize that it just repeats the same fricking formula with team dick-suckula and the brooklin cat showing up with a giant mechazord to get insta-yeeted by the pokemon of the episode. Ass never progresses, his side characters are miiiiiiid. Pikachu fricking JOBS.
Wheras horizons is cute, colorful, lovable, fresh, the animation is mostly nice. Its got a flying zepplin they all ride on. The crewmembers are all unique and interesting. Liko and Roy get proper screen time as the mc without feeling like we're utterly chained to them. The villains fricking rock, and are mostly competent. They have sleek outfits and reasonable motivations.
I mean it's the 2024 version of pokemon, the truly phenomenal peak storyline, after years of fine-tuning the mess that was the assnime, they finally got it right. Thank god.

The anime hasn't been good in a very long time because it's too humancentric and treats the Pokemon like pets and accessories. From what I've heard, the problem has only gotten more severe in horizons.

It's not bad, but it isn't very good either. It's targeting young children even more so than Journeys did. Early generations of the anime are funny and aren't solely targeting 5 year olds. That's why they will always be better. It's not for people who have been fans for a while. It's for young kids who don't know anything. That's why they go super basic with information on training, friendship, and other general hand holding stuff that you see in the first 30 minutes of every mainline game. If you take it for what it is, a show for very young kids, then it isn't bad.

Netflix is specifically marketing it to young children. It's grouped with other shows that aren't watched by older children. Journeys and the gen 1 seasons on netflix aren't marketed like that.

Overall I don't think it's bad, the villains are cool but the plot devices like the pendant and ancient Pokeball are trash. It's better than Journeys but they need to stop the all-region format, it's a disservice to the regions and boring. Ash needed to be retired long ago but the OG still hasn't been topped.
