Gen 2 did this moronic shit where they made the new Pokemon way too difficult to find or postgame only, but made them complete shit anyway. See Slugma Balls, Yanma, Natu, Mantine, Sneasel, Delibird and so on. That's why you see people believing Slugma, Skarmory, and Corsola are from gen 3.

No you didn't, in Johto it was only ever a rare encounter on the route after Blackthorn.

          Anonymous

Skarmory might as well be a postgame Johtomon with how late you can find it. If I recall, they're first available at the route between Blackthorn City and New Bark Town. So basically once you've reached the 8th gym.
It's odd that Jasmine did not have one on her team. I think if she did a lot more people would have known Skarmory exists in GSC.

Natu was very easy to find, zero chance you saw the ruins and didn't want to come back to explore them later with surf

They dropped the ball so fricking hard on gen 2 pokes.

Here's a list of all gold/silver pokemon that aren't evolutionary relatives of gen 1 pokemon, and aren't single-event encounters, that you can catch in Johto:

        Stupid rare encounters:
        >Sunkern (25% only in daytime in national park)
        >Skarmory (5% on a single route)
        >Teddiursa, Phanpy, Mantine (10% chance on a single route)
        >Remoraid, Qwilfish (10% super rod on a single route)
        >Smeargle, Natu (10% in obscure patch of grass in ruins of alph)
        >Aipom, Heracross, Pineco (only found through broken ass headbuttfrickery)
        >Marill, Yanma, Dunsparce, Snubbull (1% encounter on one single route)

        Realistic encounters:
        >Sentret
        >Hoothoot
        >Ledyba
        >Spinarak
        >Chinchou
        >Mareep
        >Hoppip
        >Wooper
        >Unown
        >Pineco
        >Girafarig
        >Swinub
        >Corsola
        >Delibird
        >Stantler
        >Miltank

Of these, the following 10 are not absolute trash:
        >Sentret
        >Hoothoot
        >Chinchou
        >Mareep
        >Wooper
        >Girafarig
        >Swinub
        >Corsola
        >Stantler
        >Miltank

So these 10 are going to be the only gen 2 originals that you will realistically encounter, that aren't trash, that you are not single-event encounters like sudowoodo and togepi (also trash).

people nowadays complain about pokemon being a mash A simulator because the main game is so easy, but catching pokemon is literally what that is. why do boomers think mashing A for 30 minutes to throw 99 ultra balls at a legendary is peak gameplay?

          Anonymous

Also you're generally wrong about a lot of shit.
          >Smeargle, Natu
Natu is literally 90% in ruins of alph, and if there's any patch a player is likely to run back and forth to see if there's any other pokemon it's that one.
          >Skarmory, Teddiursa, Phanpy,
Route 45 was a weird route with a lot of unique pokemon that was also crucially one of the longest routes in the game.
          >Aipom, Heracross, Pineco (only found through broken ass headbuttfrickery)
          You mean... using headbutt?
          >Marill, Yanma, Dunsparce, Snubbull (1% encounter on one single route)
These were all obtained by the swarms you got called for.

Gen 2 actually rewarded you for using it's varied mechanics with rare shit. This is a good things, compared to most games where every pokemon that's reasonably obtainable is impossible to miss and there's no reason to try different or unique shit. Especially back in the day when it played heavily into the word-of-mouth effect these games had.

          >It was literally THE steel type.
          That's Steelix.

I don't really count new evolutions. I was going to say it was the only non-evolution/retcon steel type but I forgot about forretress entirely (now that shit is truly stupid, who the frick is not only catching the headbutt-only literal pinecone but then evolving it?)

Not to mention the locations and lore for a lot of these Pokemon were better and more intitutive in Gen 3, like Pacifidlog being built on Corsola, or Slugma being found in the interior of a volcano

This is only true if you're a turbo autist judging the game in the abstract on arbitrary conditions from years later.

Gen 2 was the only gen to just truly build on and expand the existing, rounding it out and filling holes rather than just throwing it away to create a new roster because that pleases autists and executives.

GF was rightfully fearful kids would not love new Pokemon. It doesn't take much for kids to drop on the spot over trivial things. That's probably why Maril was shilled since it was pikachu like and they wanted to test the waters.

Brother I have been at ground zero to witness a universe shift. What the frick do you think chaos "magik" is? It's the poorly understood shifting of matter between multiverses. In my case I performed an ecstatic ritual that literally altered the physical state of matter around me. From my experience there's no way to meaningfully game this phenomenon because the output is chaotically random. The effort and energy required would be better put to use trying to work with what is already present and possible in universe. In short it would be a waste of time and a fool's errand to keep trying to channel a useful result out of such a chaotic generative force.

But I don't blame the conscious beings who build machines to better mess around with this phenomenon. Without this phenomenon the simulation would be a solved equation. I can't claim that they have any real idea how to control the end state but maybe they do. It would be more plausible if they have contact with a multidimensional intelligence able to guide them from a higher perspective how to generate intentional complex changes.

Gen 1 rival never ambushes you after a cave. And most rival encounters should happen at full health. Silph co has a healing bed, and the SS Anne lets you run back to the center pretty easily. All the rest should be at/near 100% health in any organic playthrough.

        Anonymous

That was a part of the Barenstain Bears meme which came after that term.
The phenomenon is easily explained though. People register media as fact. Not blatantly obvious shit like a monster in a film or something, but simple cause-and-effect occurrences for things not commonly observed.

For example, people believe fire hydrants erupt in a high pressure geyser if hit. This is only in desert states like California where their water systems don't have to be specced for winter months.

Because it's a known thing for Californians and movies are produced there, your average American believes it applies everywhere because they unknowingly fill in the blanks with shit they saw on TV.

It's the same way wives tales spred but much faster because all it takes is a bit of false information on the news or something to get it rolling.

So it's not in the middle.

The aorta is usually smack in the center. The ventricles usually stick out further to your left, and your left lung is usually shaped so that the left side of the heart is exposed to your chest wall. Usually. You can look up scans of people and see that it's not always the same, but usually pretty central. Drawn art and renders usually exaggerate how far it is to the left, even in some textbooks.

This isn't really the Mandela Effect, but for a long time, I always thought Red XIII in FF7 was named Django. I couldn't remember why, but whenever I saw him, I immediately thought that his name was Django and was really confused when I did eventually play the game and he never got named that.

It was only recently, when talking to a friend about obscure fighting games, that I remembered that there was a cabinet for Ergeiz that I used to look at when I was real young in the arcade. The game had a dog character named Django that had a Red XIII alternate color and I just figured it was the actual character because Cloud and Tifa were in the game.
