Apparently multiplayer development hasn't even started yet. Looking at the other channels, seems like the sprite and music producers have given up. A bunch of people asking if the project is dead, then a shill or two says "Stop saying this! Why would you think it's dead?" I forgot this even existed for a year, checked this discord, zero progress. I get the devs are busy with real life, but if you knew you didn't have any time in the near future, maybe don't start working on an open world pokemon project? Multiplayer is pointless anyways when the game has zero longevity.
Nope, you have to apply to be a developer for it. Honestly wonder how much work even went into the current version. A decent coder could probably throw something similar together in a few months. Nobody is gonna do it because it's been le done before.
>using rust, project essentially dead
This tracks, Rust developers are very feast or famine with regards to skills. Multiplayer is no easy feat and sometimes people just can't do it.
>but if you knew you didn't have any time in the near future, maybe don't start working on an open world pokemon project?
I don't care for this specific project at all but I really hate this mentality as I've been met by it in a couple of my own projects.
You work on something for free because it's fun, not for some ultimate end goal. Sometimes it stops being fun for a while and you drop it, and maybe pick it back up at some other point. It may be "dead" for now but that doesn't mean there's no intention to ever finish it.
You're not missing out on money, and the clout doesn't matter at all, so who fricking cares.
Fair enough honestly, but stringing people along for 2 whole years is kind of fricked too. Just say it isn't coming any time soon, don't promise it's coming again and again for so long when zero progress has been made. It's not just about the main dev either, a lot of people have contributed art and music to this.
I know a thing or two about game development (no expert at all) but integrating several languages for different parts of the game seems inefficient when you can use one language in one engine and be done with it. This may have happened because so many different people coded in the project but I can't really picture a coder going "oh but I only know java can we do x in that?" Unless they are a really crappy coder who copy pasted his way to a career and doesn't understand programming logic at all.
>seems like the sprite and music producers have given up
To be fair these things are basically done. There wasn't much music to be made anyway and they had spriting be done as a community thing.
>still not possible to lock the gens of pokemon that appear
They'll keep adding meaningless thing while Im just sitting here wanting to play with only gen 1-3 pokemon. Last time I played everywhere I went there were those tall fakemon exeggutors and urinal godzillas stomping around the overworld and that kinda sullied my opinion of the game.
I remember getting really excited at the prospect of modding the game, and was told that modding tools would come proper after the multiplayer update.
It's been 2 years since, and there's no sign of a multiplayer update. Let alone anything to support a modding api.
And I'm still stuck with all the sprite files formatted to the right animations and shit on standby because I assumed by the time I got done with them, so would the ability to implement them.
Are any of the devs actually working on SOMETHING at least or are they autistically holding onto "next update is the multiplayer update" and doing nothing else at all while spinning their wheels on that?

They haven't even started working on multiplayer, 2 years after announcing it.
Mostly made Spaceworld Demo related content with a couple friends. Would share more but everything's on my other laptop. Got really far in too with us collaborating and got all the overworld sprites done and half the dex animated.
Looks awesome, you're talented. Real shame about the devs fricking off. Someone should make their own version of this game. So many assets made for a promising game that went nowhere.

Hi, I've followed the development of this for years and have been involved as well.
It failed because someone (Sheer) had the bright idea of not releasing meaningful updates between now and the ambitious multiplayer update and none of his sycophants would ever tell him that's dumb. Staff are also very clique-y (one of the now-detransitioned main programmers filled the project with useless fluff like a mode that recreates the canon games with its own mechanics, among other side projects, which didn't help).
Programming help was closed for a while, which makes sense for a consistent project, but meant it'd be first come first serve for vultures like these that didn't even stick with the project long after fricking with it.
And on top of that, a lot of their newer ideas just suck. Said former troony is also behind a lot of the future "lore" and it's all complete schlock that ruins the feeling of the game. The devs have also taken the stance of wanting Wilds to be hypercasual (basically a walking sim), so it has no future even if they WERE productive.
The one good thing I can say is that when they DO finally get off of their asses, they're at least committed to modding potential so someone can just fix the game later.
tl;dr trannies distracting from the main project and the main dev being a gullible idiot that can't select good devs that aren't lazy
That sounds about right >had the bright idea of not releasing meaningful updates between now and the ambitious multiplayer update and none of his sycophants would ever tell him that's dumb
This is exactly what I'm seeing. Committed to the next update being multiplayer, hasn't even started working on multiplayer(Or tried and failed multiple times). Just add new features, frick multiplayer until you can find a dev who is capable of adding it.
They haven't even started on any of the other shit like mechanic revamps or new content or anything. The ONLY progress they have right now is the UI design, which is being done by one guy, and is still not finished, and probably subject to change once one of the moronic devs sways Sheer into doing something else. Sheer's a nice guy but that's exactly the problem, he's an indecisive doormat.
Because you keep making the same thread
>Check archive
>Two Pokemon Wilds threads in the past year
Okay schizo. This is also my first thread on /vp/ in a year+
>I can say statistics to look believable
Okay homosexual. YWNBAW
nothing notable was added since it released. building is still jank as frick and there's no depth to it
i wonder if the multiplayer would come out faster if some autists from here took over

Is the project open source at all or is it pretty much destined to die in the hands of buttholes?
Nope, you have to apply to be a developer for it. Honestly wonder how much work even went into the current version. A decent coder could probably throw something similar together in a few months. Nobody is gonna do it because it's been le done before.
>closed source fan game
I fricking hate these gays

Fug

>One coder leaves, 1/3 of the project is unreadable
Readability can be bad even if you know the language, if a coder can't learn well used languages in weeks the theyre probably really bad at coding.
Are there any other good fangames that have unique concepts/genres like this?
This is pretty upsetting, even considering I thought that PWorld would demoralise them.
NTA but are you making a game?
Yeah but not a fan game, a game with a similar aesthetic to gsc (with a bigger pallete) so anon's sprite got my eye.
What kind of game? Turn based RPG or something completely different?
Monster raising game with turn based battles. It draws from monster rancher more than pokemon.

They could probably add this and a bunch of little features that add replay value easily. Instead they'll concept adding multiplayer for 2 years.
You can currently do this through modding, you just have to tediously replace every later gen mon with dupes of older gen ones.
>procedurally generated HM bullshit
Yeah, this project can go frick itself.

I like it! Just used one of these in Reforged 97 too
Holy shit, that's so fluid! You definitely worked really hard on these, can't imagine how long it took to get that head turn to look so good.
Anon thats really good, I'd hire you for my game

this is unfortunate to hear. i enjoyed what i played.
i hope someday it can be completed.
Itsa great premise and had tons of soul. Hope they will finally do a propper updates, because the spritework I seen on the discord was amazing.
One day we'll hold a troony at gunpoint and get the source into the wild.
Reading this made me finally leave their discord after just rejoining not long ago. It's a huge cope forum.
Scope creeping and centralizing code into one guy
Monster crown is this but so much better and just had a free large dlc
Is it still a glitchy mess? Got it cheap in early access and never finished it
Yeah, got this one early too and it was such an unfinished broken mess. Shit had mixels all over the place too, infuriating.
